Sleeve to bypass hopefully
BLAKQUEEN replied to lavette43's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I also am waiting for a decision. I first had a lap band, which damaged my esophagus a little and I also had a hiatal hernia repaired then. I had a revision to a sleeve in 2014 because of my problems with the band. Now I have severe Gerd, just crazy bad. I had reflux before my first surgery due to my hernia. My hiatal hernia has returned and I also have an abdominal hernia. So now I need a bypass for the Gerd although during Covid I gained over 50 lbs. in 2019 I was at 157lbs now I am at 230. good luck -
9 days to Gastric Bypass!! Pre-op liquid diet starts Monday
-
So yesterday was a pretty off day for myself. I’m 15 days post opt from gastric bypass and been doing ok so far . The pain comes and goes and there are days where it feels like I can actually fill my incisions. Been on the soft purée food , applesauce cream of wheat I tried smushed green beans with Tilapia and mashed potatoes.. went down ok i honesty severe 3 ounces but only I take about 1 1/2 oz trying little by little . Also tried scrambled eggs but it was a no go to eat without being able to wash it down with a drink . But I have to say that I think I got frustrated or not sure I just began crying and crying and not benign sure why … and I told my wife that eating now seems like a chore and not really have the get up and do it feeling … I know it’s temp but it worries me and makes me sad but I’m taking it as well it just yesterday todays is a new day !!! Hope everyone has a great weekend 😀

Yea I don’t think many people even install bands anymore. Never mind as a revision from sleeve. I hope you get some answers soon though, that would scare me a little too.
-
I never heard of Re-Sleeve. I thought after sleeved- it’s next in line of bypass. Nonetheless, good luck.

Anyone have WLS and gallbladder removal at the same time?
kcuster83 replied to raspberrylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have my gallbadder out but had what my surgeon called "3 surgeries at once" I have a MAJOR hernia fixed, had bypass and had "scraping and trimming" of my esophagus to fix extensive damage from GERD. -
Hello everyone! My gastric bypass is scheduled for 10th of October. I have been on a waiting list since 15th of February 2021. I got all pre op check ups done last year, but had final check up before surgery 2 weeks ago (nutritionist, anesthesiologist and bloodwork). All was in place. But then my bloodwork came back really bad. I have developed anemia and its severe enough they called my in to have IV transfusion plus taking extra iron supplements with my pre op vitamins. Have new blood draw scheduled on 4th, so hope things improve enough to get approved. My BMI is 50 so already had to start my liver shrinking pre-op diet, 3 week before surgery.

Hi, First of all , am so happy I found this site. I think it will be more than a little helpful! I am 62 yrs old so anyone my age that is going through or has gone through this I would appreciate any tips you could give. I am looking forward to having energy again and just being able to be healthy. This all started because I have to have my gall bladder removed and they are going to do the Bypass at the same time. I guess I am more nervous about taking all the vitamins and the liquid portion of the diet. I am finishing up some appointments next week. I am hoping I can do an at home sleep apnea test instead of going in. I still work and wondering about how much time I will need to recover. I have only told a few close friends and close family but I have'nt told my daughter who is an RN and not a fan of WLS. I am hoping it will not be a difficult conversation. Thanks again for all the good information! Good luck on your journeys. -
Well, today was my 1 month weigh in. I was at 297.5. I don't actually know my day of surgery weight, they didn't weigh me and I didn't have a scale. I was 325 a week after I started my 3 week pre-op liquid diet. 310 one week after surgery. So 27.5 lbs lost since August 6. I've always hated the scale, my whole life losing weight has been very slow, no matter what. I'm always the most compliant dieter, weigh and measure everything. Drink lots of plain water, exercise a lot. I'd hoped maybe getting bypass would change that. Guess not. Once again I'm doing absolutely everything perfectly, been in touch with my nutritionist frequently to share my food diary and he says I'm on track. I know it's a marathon not a sprint, I just stupidly thought/hoped maybe THIS time I wouldn't have to fight every pound off so hard. I swore I wasn't going to get upset after crying all day after my week 1 weigh in, but here I sit just a puddle. I did still go for my morning 35 minute walk, I'm swimming this afternoon for 30 minutes and I'll walk again for 30 minutes later tonight. All my food is planned and prepped for the day. It's all I can do. ARGHHH!!!!!!!!!!

3 weeks post-op revision
nymisc replied to lex2287's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Maybe take a break from the scale for a bit and just focus on meal prep and exercise when you can. I know easier said than done. I am looking at the scale a lot too. Our bodies need healing time, even after a revision. I heard week 3 is always for most people a stall. Look in a month and see. -

No my current weight is 255. Day of revision is was 270. My mom made a comment about I looked like I was losing weight but the scale doesn’t budge. It goes up like a pound but never down. 😩 -

I'm back from my bypass. They were going to let me go after the 1st night but I was having trouble eating any food. Everything I tried to swallow except for water felt like I was trying to swallow acid. Luckily it did get better by the second night and today is even better. I have not hit my water or protein goals but I wasn't expecting to be able to do that so soon. I am surprised at how much I can drink though. I don't have to take tiny sips, my normal pre surgery swallowing amount still works. I am not hungry but I also can't tell when I'm full either. From what I have read and seen, 2 oz should be the size of my stomach but I can hold more. I asked my dr about it and he said it was a good thing and that it will help me reach my water and protein goals better. I asked him if maybe my stomach was left too big and he says he makes everyone's stomach the same size because they use a guide instrument. He says I will start feeling the restriction much more after I can start eating more solid foods. He also thinks that I can move to pureed food after my drs appointment next week. I thought I was on liquids for 2 weeks but I'll take only one week as long as things go well. In the meantime I'm still limiting myself to 2 oz to make sure that I don't stretch anything. As far as recovery is going, I'm doing better than I thought I would. The only really bad pain was when I was waking up after the surgery. I was still so groggy that I couldn't open my eyes but I could hear the nurse and she kept giving me doses of pain meds until I was comfortable. After that I was moved to my room. I was soooo happy to find out that they were letting my husband stay with me. Poor guy had to sleep in a reclining chair but at least he got to stay. He was amazing help when trying to get out of bed to go to the bathroom and to walk the halls. I did not get bad gas pains but I still have a lot of bloating but I can tell its inside because I can hear it travelling the loops of my intestine (sorry of that tmi) I have been taking gas x but its not being too effective yet. Its a tolerable pain though so I just have to get through it. Another tmi is that I still haven't had any bowel movements but the nurse wasn't worried and I honestly haven't eaten that much so maybe there isn't anything to go. The weekend before surgery while on the liquid diet I had the worst constipation and that finally broke the night before surgery. So maybe I was cleaned out enough that I have nothing to go atm. I have laxatives if needed and I my dr approved fiber powder to add to my liquids if I wanted to. I did request a belly binder is what I've called it, but its got a better name that I can't think of atm lol. It is amazing with how much it lessens the pain of moving. Getting out and into bed has been the hardest but once I got that on, I haven't taken it off. So now I just have to get all my liquids in and figure out what full feels like. I'm very happy not to feel hungry and also happy that so far I'm still ok with the taste of my premier protein shakes. I was going to be sad if I couldn't drink anymore of my pumpkin spice shakes. Sorry for the book but I am a talker lol -

Gastric Bypass on the 20th. Just got back from the hospital after a one night stay. So far so good. Tolerating liquids well and pain is fairly minimal. -
I had a sleeve in 2011. I had an Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty revision two weeks ago because I gained 45 of the 100 I lost back and was struggling with my sleeve. It was stretched a bit and I was eating too many carbs. I had to do something. So far I am on full liquids and its going well. Its like a resleeve but they do it from the inside with sutures so Its not as invasive. Easy recovery. I had some gas pains but they were not that bad. By day three I was doing really good. I had it on a Thursday and went back to work Monday.

VSG to ESG 11 years later!
Forensikchic posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi all. I used this forum for support during my VSG journey. It took me 13 months to get to goal. I was 234 and made it to 135 in 2012. I kept that off for the most part for about 7 years but slowly gained 10 pounds a year for the last few years. I weighed 177 when I had ESG revision two weeks ago tomorrow. I have lost to 169 so far. I want to be a part of this forum again. It helped me so much the first time. I only have 35 pounds to lose now. I hope to make it there by February. About 6 months. Who else has had this done? I am retaining fluid because Im on full liquids and they are salty! I am struggling to get the water in like usual but Im making a more concerted effort this time. Let me know if any one else has had this or is interested in it. Thanks guys! -

3 weeks post-op revision
catwoman7 replied to lex2287's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
14 lbs in three weeks is actually fabulous - esp after a revision since weight loss is typically slower after revisions than it is after virgin surgeries. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to lose more weight if you really work at it (which it sounds like you're doing). Don't give up yet! -
I am 3 weeks post-op revision from sleeve to bypass. I have only lost 14 lbs in total since surgery. I have been following my plan and increasing my protein. I brought up my concerns at my follow up and the surgeon said I most likely will not lose anymore weight. I am extremely frustrated and discouraged. Only thing is my gerd is better but I am and was hoping for additional weight loss since I gained about 50 lbs since my original sleeve surgery 5 years ago.. due to pregnancy and gerd. Anyone else in this boat or experience this on their journey that can help me out!

Stall/concerns post sleeve to bypass revision
incredibleshrinkingnurse replied to lex2287's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi guys! I got my sleeve in 2015 and never really felt any restriction. I counted calories and was able to drop 60 lbs my first 3 months… and then my life exploded. The stress I was under made counting calories impossible. I still ate healthy foods for the most part but I stalled out for a full year and then slowly the weight started creeping back until I was only 15 lbs below my starting weight. Well, now my GERD is pretty bad and my father has esophageal cancer so I need a revision as much as I don’t want to go under the knife again. The thing is, I’m currently 86 lbs down from presurgery weight in 2015 and I keep losing! Ozempic and these other injectable meds for diabetes are game changers! I wish they had come up with this stuff decades ago! Of course between the GERD and the side effects I’m often nauseous if not throwing up on occasion but I’m hoping my revision will help with some of that. Has anyone else combined Ozempic (Wegovy) with a revision to RNY? My doc says I can keep taking it after surgery but at $300 plus international shipping I’m hoping I won’t need to! -
My name is Jose and I am from the UK, I had a gastric bypass a month ago so I am at the beginning of my weight loss journey.
I would like to know how many calories I should be eating a day to stay healthy, thank you for your time
-
Hello Joset, why haven't you been given a diet plan? Did you have your surgery in the UK? Every surgeon has a different diet, and no two people are on the same one. Weird I know. Contact your team if you can
Mine was two weeks clear liquids
Two weeks on soups, milk shakes and broths all with out lumps
two weeks on pureed foods { I couldn't stomach this step }
two weeks on soft foods like Protein yogurt, stewed mince and veg, soft scrambled eggs. Pate on hard crackers
Then onto any food I fancied. If you struggle on any step or with any foods go back a step for a few days. Eggs, salmon and chicken are hard for beginners.
Sorry I missed your original post, hope you are still on here.

October 2022 surgery support

I also am October third with the bypass! I will be thinking of you! -
Hello to all. I had a Gastric Sleeve in 2019. Yes I’m old to this but here’s my problem and please to the newbies or to those who are thinking of having a Gastric sleeve, make sure the surgeon completely remove your fundus. The Gastric fundus prohibits inferior weights loss. I loss approximately 85 pounds within a 3 years time because of this and went into complete stalling. The surgeons kept over telling me I’m overeating which I told them I’m not. I just now found out my fundus is intake and wasn’t removed. I’ve been so sick from 2019 til present (2022) with stomach issues but CT scans during my emergency room visits shortly after surgery all come back normal. Nonetheless, I just suffered and stop trying to seek help until this year my acid reflux and swallowing started to interfere with my daily life. So the ER suggested a ENDOSCOPY in which the results come back as A Gastric Fundus is Generous and Mild Gastric lining Thickening. After researching, I found that the gastric sleeve was supposedly be removed. I don’t want any more revisions of surgeries but to not be sick, I will decide on it. Again, please inquire of this. Do your research on the topic of a “Retained Gastric Fundus” after weight loss surgery. Have anybody dealt with this and if so, what did you do? Lets be of help to one another with truth and honesty.

THE WEIRDEST STUFF HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO ME AFTER I GOT MY BYPASS OCTOBER 2021 So when I was fresh out of surgery I had a really hard time when I started being able to eat solids, everything I ate made me sick, or I’d feel like something was stuck and just generally uncomfortable and so I had stopped eating because it became unbearable to be sick after every meal, it led to me being hospitalized a week or two for dehydration the doctor told me my body was eating itself (muscle/fat) anything it could to keep me alive and my blood sugar would stay critically low despite them putting sugar in my IV this happened twice (I was admitted on two separate occasions) they did all the tests but nothing was abnormal and they couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t eat, but my surgeon was getting worried/upset and he said if I was admitted again I’d be put on a feeding tube he said and I quote “eat anything I don’t care what it is, just eat” he also said it would probably be uncomfortable for awhile but still force yourself. So after that I went home and would just eat whatever I could whether that be bad food or good food and it did hurt a lot and I’d get so sick I’d get hot and feel like I’d faint and so to combat it I’d just lay down in front of a fan and bear the pain which lasted about 30mins after EVERY meal I’d also go into a mini food coma after every meal and it was a big inconvenience because no matter where I was after I ate I’d have to lay down and I’d be drawn into a food coma for who knows how long. Time skip to now, I’m doing better I don’t have a problem eating but when I eat too much I do have to lay down but the thing is… I can eat way more then I should like maybe two cups full of whatever food, although when it comes to certain meats I can only eat a little and I’ll feel pretty sick afterwards, but shrimp for example I can eat a lot of. I don’t have any problems eating sweets ( which I’m beyond great full for I feel more normal now even though I can eat only a little I feel like I got a bit of my life back I had felt so depressed because food was my outlet and not being able to enjoy food any type of food had really became hard for me) and I actually eat them on a daily basis although I can only have a small amount (or it depends what sweets it is) without getting sick, I seem to be able to eat alot of popcorn. I only experienced dumping syndrome once in my life after I had some tea with honey a few days out of surgery, but after that I never had it again. I gained this really weird symptom where every time I stand up from a sitting position I faint or feel very dizzy where everything goes black and I fall down without losing consciousness, it only last a few seconds and then I’m fine but I’ve hurt myself a few times because of it. I also feel hunger, I’ve felt hunger even right out of surgery but now I’m always hungry 2 hours after eating but I don’t get stomach rumbles I get this heartburn feeling that’s persistent until I eat it’s my way of knowing when to eat. I have a big problem with standing still in one spot for even 10 minutes It makes me feel sick like I’ll throw up or something I get hot and dizzy but I’m just fine walking for hours just the moment I stand still I get nauseous. I find it harder to drink water without a straw, and I find it easier to eat laying down than sitting up and I think that’s really weird, but despite eating anything I want I still lose weight and I don’t really feel the need to anymore I’m at a good area. One last thing that’s pretty recent…. I sleep eat. I don’t know when it happened maybe a month or two ago but every night now I’ll wake 3 or 4 times and munch a little on whatever is nearby, I’ve eaten 3 full boxes of cheese-its over the course of 5 days (which didn’t sit well with me in the long run) I’ve eaten cookies, I’ve eaten cheese, I’ve eaten candy, I’ve even eaten a whole sandwich and sometimes I have no recollection of it but I’ll see the wrapper or evidence near me on the floor. I don’t know how to stop this habit it’s really getting out of hand so now I just place healthy options near me before bed so I won’t gain weight because I did gain a few pounds recently. Well, these are just my experiences and this all started after my surgery although I don’t know for sure if it’s surgery related. Please feel free to comment below if you’ve experienced anything similar I’d love to hear it! I’m managing just fine I’ve found a system to deal with my inconveniences (since it’s just more annoying and I feel I can deal with it) but if I can find a way to rid myself of it then I’d feel more normal!! P.s. does anyone know how to tighten minor loose skin?? My skin isn’t very loose but in some areas like my lower stomach and thighs it’s not as tight, I lost the majority of my weight when I was the hospital which is less than ideal but even still the skin is only slightly loose. I’ve heard working out can help (and I have little to no muscle right now I lost it during the hospital phase) so I’m working on that but if anyone has any other type of remedies I’d LOVE to try it! Thanks again <3
