    Regretting Surgery!

    Please don't be discouraged. Easier said than done. I had a three week stall week 3,4&5. I was disgusted upon my visit to nutrionist until she used her contraption that measurse BI. I lost 9 lbs of fat. Its equivalent is spprox 3lbs a wk. If your are not seeing a nutionist you can pick up a scale that measures body fat as well. Keep on keepin on! Its gonna come off.     yep. It's the infamous "three week stall". Most of us experience it. Just stick to your food plan and stay off the scale for a few days. It'll eventually break and you'll be on your way again. Stalls usually last 1-3 weeks.

    There is a three week stall that everyone talks about. I’ve thought about this and another fact that the body “initially” heals in 3-4 weeks. It makes sense to me that the 3-4 week time is when the body is slowing the heal and trying to shift back to maintaining the rest of the body. Then, coming from a calorie deficit, it tries to add weight back on. I’d also say 500cals is too low, your body may be sensing starvation. Did you team recommend this low of a calorie count?
  4. Stalling for a couple of weeks starting at three weeks post-op is completely normal. You can use the search function on this site to look for "three week stall" or even just Google "three week stall vsg" or "week three stall weight loss surgery" or anything like that and see that you are far from alone! Just keep following your program and stay off the scale for a while if it will stress you out. Good luck!

    Feeling frustrated at week 3

    it's the three week stall. Almost all of us have our first major stall sometime during the first 3-6 weeks after surgery, and it's usually the third week (hence, the name). If you do a search for three week stall on this site, you'll find over 15,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding). Just stick to your plan and the weight loss will start up again. Stalls usually last 1-2 weeks, but occasionally longer. Stay off your scale if you need to and know that it'll eventually break.

    Help me?

    I gained back the ten pounds after surgery that I had lost before surgery. My pressure was low so I was loaded me with IV fluids and it took over two weeks just to get back to my pre surgery weight. So don't beat yourself up. I'm nine weeks out and just came off a three weeks stall. It was really hard to stay positive. But my body was still working because I lost inches not weight over that three week period. So hang in there this to shall past just follow the program you physician gave you.

    A three week stall, especially at your low BMI, is not unusual. Just be patient. I remember being stalled for two months (on a different diet a few years ago)...then suddenly in one week I lost 6#!! After you get your fill you probably won't be able to eat bagels and breads anymore....I've heard a lot of people have problems with that.
  9. I am five weeks post op. When I first had the surgery, I was somewhat worried about not feeling full, because I could drink liquids like it was nothing. Even on pureed foods I was able to eat a decent amount. Now that I am five weeks out, and on solids I can honestly say, I AM FEELING IT. My nerve endings must have finally healed because I can definitely tell a huge difference in three weeks post op, and now and how much I can consume. I tried to eat a meatball yesterday for dinner and I got halfway through when the fullness started. Today at lunch I didn't even make 2 ounces of tuna before I could feel it. This is wonderful! I also broke my three week stall :D

    Google "three week stall." This happens to everyone. The best advice is to follow your plan, meet your protein and water goals each day, walk when you can, and stay off of the scale for a while. Your body is desperately trying to heal, and weight loss just isn't the top priority right now.
  12. yep - sounds like the three week stall (which can really happen any time within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery). It happens to almost everyone. I wish clinics would warn their patients about this because it's EXTREMELY common, and people freak out about it when it happens if they aren't aware of this phenomenon beforehand. Just stick to your plan, stay off the scale for a few days, and know that it will end and you'll start losing weight again.

    three-week stall. If you search this site, you'll find something like 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding). It happens to almost everyone. Just stick to your plan, stay off the scale for a few days, and it'll eventually break (lasts 1-3 weeks, usually) and you'll be on your way again.
  14. Look for posts about the three week stall. Happens to most of us somewhere between 2-5 weeks out. Give it a month or so and see what happens!
  15. Thanks for the replies. I was well aware of the "three week stall", and understand the physiology behind it. It was just a little unnerving to have it happen five days after surgery. Hopefully weight loss will pick back up soon.
  16. So I thought I'd run it all down. I might add some pictures tomorrow when I take them for my records. 10 days before Surgery two months ago I weighed 346 lbs. Everything made me out of breath. I wasn't exercising nor dieting. In fact had probably spent the last few months leading up to this going to as many restaurants/fast food places as I could, getting my favorites for one last time. Started the full liquid 10 days before surgery lost about 12lbs and on July 24th, 2017 I was SLEEVED. *insert "Law and Order" chung-chung sound here* It took a week after that to feel only a mild pain from the incisions, probably 2 weeks after for the pain to be gone entirely. I was on clear liquids for the whole first week after surgery. Walking helped, shuffling around the house in my slippers. I didn't have any gas pains and I'd say my best friend, or the best thing I bought after surgery (at the advice of some angel on the forum) was a stomach support stretchy velcro thingy. It kept me feeling like my guts weren't falling out...gave me stomach support when it was weak. Noticed the pounds coming off at a steady, very steady, 2lbs per day. That is, until the three week stall which is REAL y'all. Went through the entire month of August on Full Liquid diet. Consisted on two protein shakes and a bowl of soup and of course lots of water. Didn't really do a whole lot of exercising all that much, but that has changed since my last Surgeon's appointment when he said I could go to pureed for a week, then solid foods. I've been walking about 2 miles a day and increasing daily and it's making the pounds move. I have 6 - 8 months to maximize this loss and I am going to do it. I'm already addicted to walking everyday and loving it immensely. I don't get out of breath easily at all anymore and I'm pushing myself gently to the point that I actually feel like JOGGING!!! Cut to today. I am at 290. That is a loss of 56 lbs and I definitely can feel it. This is only two months in. Problems: After Surgery and a little recovery I had a hard time figuring out what to do with my life in my leisure time. Everything had always revolved around food and eating and or drinking with friends. Checking out new Restaurants, going to favorite restaurants, drinking at local watering hole - these all had to be requestioned and rethought. I had to figure out what to do to occupy my time better. i think i have since worked it out. I still go to my neighborhood watering hole, but I have that - water and I pay for some of my friends drinks that way I am contributing to the financial necessities of the establishment and not just taking up space. I have bought a pop up camper from 1970 and I am in love with it and spend at least one pretty day a week tinkering with it and getting ready for a big camping trip at the end of the month. Eating in general has slowly become a Non-Pleasure. I use solid food as medicine now. if I am hungry it takes soooooo verrrrrrrrryyyyy littttttlllllee before I just have to stop. it's just a necessity and definitely not a desire. My pleasure sensors or joy sensations when it comes to food have all but burned and fizzled out. Is that really a PROBLEM? I don't know. It CERTAINLY is confusing. I NEVER know what will work or not in my stomach right now. It's a virtual guessing game. Almost. I say almost because I know there are "guides" and recommendations, but the reality of having to look everything up before you attempt to have a meal is ridiculous. The mood swings, the toxins stored in your fat releasing itself into your system as the fat dissipates causing the mood swings and the bursts of hormones/testosterone are a roller coaster ride and not always a fun one. Sometimes they are not fun at all. The loss of the feeling of "completion" with eating. The loss of the "full and content" feeling has been weird to me...it's just, you're done and your stomach might feel queasy or your stomach might just feel fine, but you're just done and that's it. I don't know, again, if that's a real problem but it's just...different. The way my torso, specifically my stomach and man boobs are going to take the longest to lose fat certainly can make the rest of your body look weird in the mean time. Good Stuff: Inches and Pounds, Inches and Pounds! Dropping from a 3xl shirt to now just a 2xl shirt is a wonderful feeling. I have only bought one new pair of pants because I went out of town on an overnight trip and forgot my friggin' clothes so I had to buy some. The jeans I bought were 6 inches below what I had been buying. 6 inches is a lot in jeans. They start looking like regular jeans instead of flared bell bottoms because your goddamned waist is so huge that it continues down the pant leg. I've been tracking the inches lost and that will be measured for the second time post surgery tomorrow. Noticing the fast changes in my body mass. Other people noticing the changes. Looking down when I'm sitting and seeing my lap instead of my stomach? more energy better sleep already 56lbs off your frame makes Sex a wee bit easier and more fun. Skin looks great with so much water and non toxic food going through your system. Dry skin gone. Greasy skin and spots gone. Having a neck with tendons in it and clavicle bones look cool. Putting on a t-shirt and before you get it past your arms, you already know it's gonna fit perfectly. I know you know what I'm talking about. Everyday is a new and interesting day. I am certainly taking it one day at a time and each day I wake up excited about the possibility of walking and getting lesser and lesser. I'm really confused and still adjusting to what eating has become. I still enjoy an occasional dance with Mary Jane if I need to get out of my head, but was never a fan of alcohol that much anyway. I can't imagine what is beyond this....I haven't ever been "normal weight" since I was a child. I am willing to get there though. I guess overall I am happy that I chose to do this really , really weird thing to my body. And there you are....

    Weight loss?

    Chris Christie (from NJ) had the lap-band surgery. I am 5 weeks out from being sleeved and had a 1 week stall. If I was in a three week stall I would be carefully journaling all food and would meet with my nutritionist to review my food journal and discuss options.

  20. key is totally right i had a three week stall. guess what i'm eating 2000 calories a daY!!!!!!! and i'm losing weight so that is soooooooooooooooo true. (oh course i lift weights and i exercise seven days a week. what? you thought i lost 130 pounds just from the sleeve it self??)

    Water Consumption

    The three week stall others mentioned is very common. Just stick to your plan and the weight loss will pickup. I never had any problem drinking liquids either. I tried to slow down but if I drink without thinking about it I realize I can drink as much as i did pre surgery.

    Look up the "three week stall." It is so common that it has a name. This stall happens to the majority of newly sleeved people sometime between the second and fourth postoperative weeks. It appears your stall came one week early. So did mine. Also...stay off the scale for a few weeks. These frequent weigh-ins will only create more anxiety. You did not become obese overnight and will not lose it overnight, either. Only a small minority of people lose at the rate of 1 pound per day. For the rest, the weight comes off in a nonlinear, unpredictable pattern. For instance, I lost at the rate of about 3 to 6 pounds per month, but still attained my goal. I also agree with previous respondents to lay off the exercise for the next few weeks since you are not consuming enough calories to fuel your activities properly. You'll potentially throw your body into starvation mode.

    Scale Hasn't Budged!

    "Three week stall" -- completely normal, use the little search box in the upper right corner. Virtually everyone experiences it and it does not reflect how well you are following your program. Your body just needs a little break to catch up after trauma. Stay off the scale for a few weeks, keep following your program -- the weight loss will kick back in eventually, but you really can't dictate when, sadly.

    Discouraged. 3 weeks post op.

    You are in the "three week stall". Usually lasts for a week or two. Stalls will happen regularly. It's a normal part of the process, and doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong... and there is nothing that will fix it. When your body is ready, the scale will move again. The average weight loss for the first month is 15-25lbs. So you are already there! I lost 17lbs myself.. totally normal.

    3 weeks out and weight gain

    Could definitely have hit the three week stall. But I'm curious how much protein are you eating a day? Should be between 60-90 grams. Your fluid intake isn't bad. My nut said you have to work up to the 64 ounces a day and she was right. Also how many calories are you eating a day? Do you journal? I HIGHLY recommend it! I do soooo much better hitting my goals when I journal. I suggest you stay away from the scale for two weeks, concentrate on getting your protein and fluids in and see how you do. I stalled at three weeks for two weeks and then i started dropping weight off rapidly. Best of luck to you! [emoji4]
