    NSV anyone?

another day, another NSV! I ran up a flight of stairs this evening. I didn't even realize what I had done until after I had done it! And my had my 20 pound backpack on. I wasn't even winded when I got to the top either!

    NSV anyone?

NSV means non scale victory. It is anything that doesn't have to do with scales, such as something fitting, someone gives you a compliment, etc.

    NSV anyone?

When I was preparing for surgery, the doc asked if my hysterectomy was a vertical or horizontal incision. I said I didn't know. I felt really dumb. But I ccouldn't easily see under my belly roll -- it took a good mirror and some contorsions. Well, now I know it was horizontal and runs right in the crease of my belly roll -- 'cause I can lift up my flabby ol' roll and look now. I think that's a NSV??

Lisa and Nancy, great NSVs!!! It's not all about losing on the scale.
  14. Update: 7 Weeks Post - 198.4lbs (-24lbs from SW of 222.4lbs--hey, that's 3.4lbs/wk--I'll take it!!!) Basic Macros for 6 Weeks: 450-550 cals; 60-65g protein; <25g fat; <20g carbs Food Volume: 1/2c by volume ALWAYS. I go by volume first. That's about 1.75-2oz protein; 1/2-1oz veggies (no more than 3.5oz by weight) Wow! Big things happened this week, not least of which were doctor appointments that resulted in changing up medications and also discontinuing a medication! Yippeee!!! The cardiologist took me off one of my big time BP drugs and started up a diuretic again -- a different one though. It seems to really help. My BP looks better than before and I'm slowly losing my cankles. Thank you sweet baby Jesus! And my pulmonologist said we should try to discontinue an asthma drug I've been on since about 2000. It's an inhaled steroid and there can be weight gain associated with it. So far, so good on both changes! And the happy miracle is that this week, I've lost about about 8lbs. Now, before everyone goes all sappy. Let me just remind you that most or all of that is fluid. Not real fat loss. But hey, carrying around 8lbs less fluid is grrrrrrEAT! Haha, see what I did there? I also had a NSV! I appropriated a pair of jeans from Mr. No-Hiney himself. They are too big in the waist, but I fill the hiney just fine. They make a great pair of boyfriend jeans. And that means, I can just borrow them and not have to buy anything. Yay me! It's the first time I can claim being more than 25lbs lighter than him since we met! In fact, I haven't been this weight since about 2000. Wowza! I still can't admit that I feel like I'm actually gonna make goal. I'm working on that one. I know it "will come" with time and continued success. But I look at the scale at 198 and think..."Gah! I can't wait until I'm 160lbs again." That was the weight I was when Mr. F. and I first met. And I felt sorta kinda like "all that and a bucket of fried chicken too." I thought I was Miss Thang! Cuz, you know, I was only 10lbs more than my high school weight. LOL. OMG. So weird. I'm still eating repetitiously of the same foods I know I can tolerate (which is a pretty broad food list!). At 6 weeks I'm still eating 1/2c by volume. And I try to limit the weight of any meal to about 3 to 3.5oz max by weight. I honestly don't know if my tummy is talking to my brain. Mainly cuz I think 1/2c volume stretches my tummy, but it doesn't stretch it to top/full capacity. So I'm just abiding by the set volume and knowing that I'm probably safe with that quantity and will do no harm. I'm not gonna test it to see if I can actually eat 3/4c of food by volume. You know? I'm getting about 60-65g of protein in each day and most of that is coming from foods. I look forward to the day (God I hope I don't regret this thought...) when I CAN eat 3/4c of food because I'd like to add in that 1/4c of low carb veggies. So far, I'm staying very low carb, less than 20g per day total carbs. I'm eating protein, a TINY bit of fat from spray EVOO, and eating about 1/2-1oz (weight) of veggies per meal. That leaves me with 1.75-2oz (weight) of protein per meal. It's right on target with the amounts my RD has in the BIG BOOK OF BARIATRICS. LOL. My calories still average between 450-550cals/day. I'm getting in all of my water each day with a minimum of 100fl oz and often going as much as 120fl oz. So all in all--a good and productive week. I'll be back next week to report more.

    NSV anyone?

Speaking of wedding rings. I remember the day of surgery I could not get my rings off. They told me I could not have jewelry on the day of surgery. I was so depressed because I didn't think they would be able to perform the surgery. They had to put a piece of tape over it. Now, it slides around all the time. I guess that is a NSV. Rebeccalee, that is a good story. It is amazing what you can see once it is gone (belly flab)

    NSV anyone?

Does giving away your first batch of clothe count as a NSV? It feels so good to look at this TALL stack of cloths and know that they are ALL too big for me! I've gone from a 30/32 to a 26/28 in 3 1/2 months! I'm luvin my band right now. If y'all know anyone who can where a size 30/32 (lives in Tx preferably because of S&H) I've got some cloths for them! I bought most of these clothes from Catherines a specialty store here in Texas for large women. Thier nice cloths and would like to find a good home for them. I've thought about consigning them since I paid a lot of money for them but would like it better if I knew a woman that could use them for herself.
  18. I feel amazing today! I am 3 weeks postop today and am down 35 lbs. from my highest weight (287), 21 since surgery day (273). I had a stall of sorts for almost a week but the scale is moving again now (252). My incisions are completely healed and really feel like I never had surgery, except for the lack of hunger and the tiny amounts I can eat I am still on purees for another week and am doing great - everything has really gone down quite well, I just get full really fast. I am getting in liquids just fine and still struggling to get enough calories and Protein, but working on it every day. I've been hitting the gym since last week and doing just cardio for now - elliptical and treadmill. I am still able to wear most of the same clothes I started in (mostly size 20) but they are getting really baggy and feel way different and TODAY I put on a top (size 14/16!!) I bought quite a while back to "shrink into" and it fits! It is just a stretchy knit top and isn't super loose but with my shapewear (ha!) I feel comfortable and confident in it and that hasn't happened to me for AGES! I am by no means in a 14/16 in pants (I think I am solidly in an 18 now) but I will take what I can get, considering I am only a fraction of the way to my goal weight I think this is just one of many wonderful days to come and I just cannot say how happy I am that I took this huge step for myself and my family - I would recommend the sleeve to anyone contemplating WLS!

Emilee - wow girl! What a cool NSV to walk in a store and buy off the rack! You give everyone such encouragement -- looking fantastic, smiling and losing!!! Thanks for sharing!
  20. froggi- I totally know how you feel. It's getting better now a days... but I count it as a workout too. I'm 330, 5'7" and I can straddle my hubby. He's pretty skinny around the waist though. Actually, had a NSV the other day... hope this isn't tmi- but there's not as much fat in the nether-regions now- actually "scored" without my hubby having to work his fingers! That's NEVER happened for me.
  21. Wow Nikki, thanks. I didn't even think about nekkid like that as a NSV. You are so right! What a boost. =)
  22. Non scale victory - NSV congrats, sweetie. Take your measurements and record them. Our journey results are not always reflected on the scale. Way to go. Keep up the great work. Joyce

Well, it seems I have a bit of an NSV today. The wife went out to buy me more pants... and it seems I am no longer a memeber of the "Big and Tall" section. It seems she had to visit the 'Regular Sized Human" section to buy them.

    I crossed my legs...and I liked it!

I also noticed another NSV..My BMI has dropped into another first digit. Still obese, yes. But instead of a 50+ BMI, or a 40+ BMI I am now in the 30s! Woo hoo!!!

Congratulation Kim, It's always a good feeling when you have those NSV's. Penni--Take care of yourself, sometimes when we think it's over that's when it really hit's us. Skye--So glad to see that you both are doing better, just continue to take one day at a time. You are in my thoughts and prayers. April goals: lose at least 10lbs; exercise 4 to 5 days each week; and thinking positive thoughts about my body. I go in for a fill on tomorrow which should give me the restriction I am looking for. After a fill, I have good restriction for at least 3/4 weeks and then all of the sudden I can eat about a cup in a half at each setting. Weight loss for this week: C218 (-2 this week):clap2: :clap2: I'll take it!!!
