Its been 7 weeks since my life has changed and I'm happy. I turned 57 years old on July 27 - Yea Me!!! So far, I have lost 37 lbs and gone from a size 26 to a size 22: These are the things I have noticed since my RNY surgery July 16. 1) Menopausal hot flashes have stopped!!!! Thank you Jesus!!!! 2) No more arthritic pain in my lower back. I can walk distances now. No longer need to ride the buggy in Walmart! 3) Bowling balls do not fit my hand anymore. Had to get the finger inserts changed to a smaller size!!!! 4) I'm a "cheap date" now. Husband doesnt have to spend much money on me when we go out to dinner! 5) Everyone is noticing my weight loss and complimenting and encouraging me to continue. 6) I have "fallen out of love" with fried foods. 7) I have "fallen out of love" with Pepsi, Coca Cola and RC sodas. 8) I am no longer taking blood pressure medication 9) The entire surgical experience was pleasant (only had 3-4 days of surgical gas discomfort). Incisions were closed with a "crazy glue" type of substance that fell off as the incisions healed. 10) Finally have learned the consequences behind overeating and eating too fast and not chewing food properly (I ended up in the bed, in a fetal position calling for my mama!!!!!) I'm so happy with the way things are going. Looks like I'm losing on an average of 5 lbs per week, trying to lose 150 lbs. My biggest problem: Laziness is still a problem when it comes to exercising though. I just can't seem to go to the gym. In the meantime, I'm walking places every chance I get. Just trying to keep moving.

Hello everyone. I have made the decision to have bariatric surgery. Diagnosed with type one diabetes and high blood pressure last year. Cholesterol diagnosis & meds last summer. I decided at that point to work harder. Exercise daily, eat much better and nutribullet. Well I have & been successful at not gaining more weight but not losing which us what I need to do to get healthy. I have never had a weight problem until I had my daughter in 2004 plus diagnosed with hypothyroidism at the sane time. I am a single mom of two wonderful children. They are 9 years apart but are my world. I am an only child with my mom. I have step brothers & sisters all live out of state. I am super closer with my sister than my brothers although I love them all. I have my first appointment with my surgeon next Wednesday. Thanks to this app plus other research I made the decision to have WLS. I an excited and nervous. I have been so used to feeling bad physically, i.e. tired, achy muscles bones, headaches & backaches. You just keep going, just a way of life. In all actuality... I'm killing myself!!! No I want to live, have to for myself, 10 year old daughter, 19 year old son. My mom I'm her only child... Plus I love life, yes I do... Well I'm happy to see so much support, read other stories and get more inspiration. Thanks for listening & more to come...

Hi! Surgery on 5/25 and excited!!!
countrymomma posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Everyone! I'm glad to be here and really excited about my banding date in less than 48 hours! My sig. has my info/dates/etc. At my highest (not counting my last pregnancy where I hit 300), was 260. As soon as my husband's insurance changed and I found out that surgery may be covered, I started my Dr. supervised diet and dropped down to 220, but gained 10 back. At the time I started my preop diet I was at 230 and now down to 218. I've been wanting to do WLS since 1999 and came very close to RnY in 2000 but chickened out after a LOT of negative feedback from my family. When I finally got my nerve back, I didn't have insurance that would cover it - no matter what co-morbidies I had. My family doctor had Lapband and raved about it and she was worried that if I did RnY that I would get too sick. She referred me to her surgeon (who is in our local rural area) and I was able to get in immediately, get all my paperwork in order and get approved rather quickly. My date was set and here I am! I'm on my presurg diet and I finally have gotten used to not eating. My diet is a liquid only, 800 calorie diet. First few days were rough but my body started losing and that was all that mattered to me at the time. I'm worried about pain after surgery and pain meds... Most pain meds make me want to hurl and thats WITH food in my stomach. I can't imagine being able to take pills after surgery to help with pain. Any ideas or info on this? -
Today I had my 2 week post op visit. Part of the appointment was to meet with a dietitian and another patient. It was such a good experience speaking with someone who had also went though this procedure that I wanted to check out this forum. My journey began when I visited my family doctor on Oct 14, 2010. I wanted to consult with her about weight loss options as I was nearly at the end of my rope with the yo-yo weight life style. 3 times in my 39 years I had lost 100+ lbs only to eventually gain it all back. I realized that if I had been fortunate to have not developed some of the horrible weight related illnesses like diabetes, but that I was realistically pushing my luck. It was time to take a more serious look at getting healthy for the rest of my life. She recommended that I contact Grand Health Partners (GHP) and specifically Dr. Randy Baker. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend an orientation the following day. Now others will have differing opinions by my belief was that this timing was put forth by God. Had I not been able to attend an orientation so quickly I'm sure that doubt and stubbornness would have crept in and I likely would have reconsidered. The orientation was terrific. It was very obvious that GHP was concerned with taking complete care of the patient. The list of on staff team members was most impressive. Not only did they have the expected surgeons and medical staff but they also had dietitians, exercise physiologist, and behaviorists in house. My initial meeting with Dr. Baker confirmed my beliefs about GHP that I had established from the orientation. Dr. Baker answered all of my questions and addressed all of my concerns. We discussed all of the available procedures and determined that the sleeve offered the best option for me. The time from that initial consultation to my 2 week post op visit today has been a whirlwind. For the sake of shortening this story, if that can be done at all at this point, I weight 66 lbs less today than I did on that fateful Oct day. I lost 28 lbs on the 2 week pre-op diet and now an additional 26 lbs since my procedure on Jan 10, 2011. I have a long road ahead but I know I can make it. Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction. I look forward to sharing with all of you and hope we can learn something from one another. Take care.

Hello Forum! I'm so glad I've found this site. We have a support group here, but they meet once a month. I was recently banded on 9/19...so I'm through my first week and starting the second. I had no complications and was back to work on Monday. Since I started the process with a liquid diet 2 weeks before, I've lost 21lbs...only 4 last week, but I'm hoping to get a fill on Thursday for more weight loss. I slowly started adding soft foods this week...an egg, thin slices of ham, and tuna. Lots of soups mixed in along the way. Since I've started soft foods, I feel like I'm still eating too much even though it's literally just ounces that I'm having. We'll see what my Dr suggests at my visit. I look forward to chatting with everyone and reading about your weight loss journey. Tammy

Converting from band to sleeve
Kristina J. replied to JohnC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats John! That's exciting news!! I'm finally ditching my band after 10 years in May!! I had prolapse issues twice. I chose to unfill and refill once, but once it happened again, I decided I was done. I haven't had much success at all since replacing my band in 2006. I think you made a wonderful choice. The reality is, you would likely end up anyway, as prolapse generally becomes a repetitive problem!! Have you discussed a surgery date yet?! There are quite a few band to sleeve revisions around here and I have yet to hear one person say they didn't have more success and feel better after revising!! -
Had surgery Feb 12 to remove band and get sleeve but, too much scar tissue so they only removed the band. There were lots of people getting surgery but I was the only one still in recovery for 8 hours. I couldn't get out of the anesthesia. It's happened before. Oxygen level was low so I was on oxygen for the duration. Finally, I was released. I was sooo upset cause I didn't want to go back again to have another surgery but the Dr thought it was best this way. For 3 days I felt miserable cause I had 4 incisions and they hurt. The pain meds were making me very dizzy so i stopped taking them and held the pain. I was able to work after a week. I've been scheduled for the sleeve for this March 19. I'm a bit scared cause I hate to be in pain and know how sick it makes me. Hopefully, it should go well. Fiordaliza

Okay Here we go! I am having my surgery on Tuesday the 22 here in Knoxville, TN. So the nerves have started. I feel very well informed, thanks to the people at my Dr.'s office and to the people on this forum. Still a little nervous. I have only lost 8lbs on the pre-op diet and I am hoping for 10 by Tuesday. I blew it today though I think partly nerves and the other is just that my will-power stinks! I have been exercising every other day and doing my deep breathing exercises too. Really I am excited too, Tuesday can't get here fast enough the waiting is is taking it's toll. LOL Dr. Stephen Boyce, Parkwest Hospital Pre-op 2/7/11 - 254 Surgery 2/22/11 - (hope) 244

Hello from VA. I've been banded for a while but due to some health issues I'm re-starting from scratch. October 2006 my band was installed then filled the last week in Dec. I consistently lost 10 pounds per month. I'd lost 35 pounds when I had to have my band deflated for a year (nothing to do w/ the band) and gained back 33 pounds. Now I've begun my journey again. In 2 months I've lost a mere 10.5 pounds. My band was filled in mid Jan. I had another fill 2 weeks ago. I'm not doing as well this time as I did the last. I'm worried my pouch has stretched, dilated as they say because I can eat a lot more food than I used to. I feel Hot drinks or very cold drinks go right through to my "bottom stomach." I don't remember if I felt that the last time. I feel kind of out of sorts. Anybody who's had to get back on track have any suggestions? Congratulations to all the new banders!! I know this process works because it worked for me once and will work again. Pixiedust

I got scoped on 5-14-14. Its not a big deal. My voice was deep and I had a odd type or sore throat for a couple of days. Not like a cold type sore throat. Your only out for 10 or 15 minutes. From being knocked out to being awakes was 35 minutes on the clock. For some reason I had a charlie horse in my leg for about a week. I have no idea why.

My band was put in april 07 i weighed 240. I lost 40 lbs in about 3 months. next two 10 more only 50 total. Since then i've been filled and unfilled because it's always to tight. I got tired of going in so i left if open now i just maintain my weight at 190. but recently i couldn't keep anything down and they told me it closed up. I've never seen anything written about a closed band. Has anyone ever had this? They did a egd and reopened it but they said it might not stay open. which i know it's not cause i'm still having problems holding liquids down. They say i might have to have it replaced. It just hasn't worked for me like it has others. I'm afraid to go thru it again. Any help or suggestions please.....

Hey all, I'm hopefully getting banded around the month of May. I went to the seminar in Dec and started the 6 month Dr supervised diet back then, (didn't really try until Feb) and lost 2 lbs, then a week after my birthday in Feb landed in the hospital for a day and half due to my asthma, but thought they thought it might be heart related, but after doing a bunch of tests, all's good there. After getting out of the hospital, I really started losing the weight, the first weigh in Feb a week after leaving the hospital I lost 2 lbs, then a month later which was last Monday I learned I had lost 4 lbs, and then yesterday when I went the cardic dr for a follow up, they weighed me, I couldn't believe it, I had lost a whooping 10 lbs in a week! I am surprised but excited!!

My name is Shauntrell and I was banned 3/10/14. After the first 2 weeks of my liquid diet I had lost 18 lbs. I thought I was on the right track. After my 6 week post-op visit I was down a total of 22 lbs. I rcvd my first fill which was 3 cc's on 4/23/14. Afterwards, I felt no restriction at all and was hungry all the time. 12 week check up I rcvd a fill of .5 cc's and had only lost 4 lbs. 18 week checkup was 7/16...still feeling hungry and had only lost .5 lbs. My dr gave me another 1.5 cc's. I am currently at 5 cc's but still feeling no restriction at all. Any advice? My next appt is 8/27.

Shelbymooy: Sorry to hear you've had quite a time. I had my own experience with the insurance company. Anyway, Dr.Atkinson in Vegas is wonderful. However, I think he charges around 16,000+ for the lapband. He performed my mom's RNY a few yrs. back. I am now a self-pay pt. and simply could not afford that much. So...Dr. Kirshenbaum in Aurora, CO is doing my surgery (10/1). His charge is $9950 and is all inclusive. He will do a consultation via the phone if need be. If you are interested the site is lapbandrockies.com Good luck!!

Welcome to "banderland"! You will find lots of info here and many nice and knowledgeable people . Dont hesitate to ask any questions you may have. I was sore for about 10 days after surgery but each day was definitely better than the one before! May I make one suggestion? Be extremely careful in bed! I turned over a few times and felt like I ripped my port completely out! Not a good feeling to say the least. Good luck to you on your journey! Marina -
June 2014 Sleever seeking other June 2014 Sleevers
wadetb7 replied to Sweet Baby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 10 days post op and I feel amazing!!! I'm back at work as of yesterday. The surgery was much easier than I had anticipated. Has was my only issue. Thankfully no nausea. Stomach muscles will be super sore but each day you're better!!! -
I started loosing a few months after surgery and I think it started growing back at about 10 months post op because at 12 to 13 months I could see 2 to 3 inch long hairs growing in all over my head. It was not fun, but I knew it was a real possibility and a minor inconvenience compared to getting rid of the weight.

Hi I had my op 3 weeks ago. I lost 5kg in my pre op so was over the moon and in the first week of the op lost another 6kg, but for the last 10 days the weight has fluctuated up and down by .5kg. I am following everything. Is this normal? Am i expecting too much? It feels a bit disheartening

Hi everyone! My name is Heather. I live in East Central Minnesota. I am married to my high school sweetheart of 18 years now. I have two boys, 15 and 8. I work full time as a licensed practical nurse and go to college part time to become a registered nurse. Like many of you, I have been overweight the majority of my life. I was teased in school, and often as an adult I hear disparaging comments. I have been considering gastric surgery for the past 10 years. I looked into it again after I saw a patient having great success, and I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I am 5'4" and weigh 255 lbs. This is the heaviest I have been. I have done all of the diets with some temporary success. I have always gained the weight back, with a little extra bonus weight added on too. I have one more month of seeing the required dietician before my "case" is submitted to insurance. The time has seemed to fly by until now. Since college classes start again for me on Monday, I am hoping I won't have much time to pace the floor waiting for time to pass. This forum has been a great resource. I hope that along with you all, I can someday share my experience and success! You all are a blessing to me!!! <3 Heather

Hello everyone. Im a lap band conversion to sleeve person. Had too many issues with the lap band, so they removed it Sept 28. I was excited to get the sleeve but this procedure almost killed me. I had my procedure and was out of the surgery center within 5 hrs of when surgery started. Is it just me or is that the norm. Two days later, i was admitted into ICU for sever dehydration. At that point i had lost 13 lbs in two days. All i can say is i hope i made the right decision for me, but still teeter on thinking i messed up. Would i do this surgery again if i had to.. NO WAY!! This surgery was very hard on me. Tomorrow I'm three weeks out, how are people feeling at this point, and what are you eating.

I have been creeping around LBT since November of 2011 and have never posted because I didn't think I had anything to add. A little back story on me... I never struggled with my weight until my mid 20's. Even when I gained 50 pounds in college I was able to lose it with no problem. After having 3 kids in 3 years in my late 20's I gained 150 pounds and had tried everything to lose the weight with no success. After several years of trying to lose the weight I gave up and told myself that my weight gain was genetic and there was nothing I could do about it. Then in November of last year I lost a very close uncle at the age of 53 due to complications related to Type II diabetes. I made up my mind then that I would not leave my husband and kids at such an early age because of weight related issues. In November I weighed 325 lbs and I am 5'7". I rejoined Weight Watchers and was able to loose only 8 pounds before I finally considered WLS. I went to a surgery seminar with a friend of mine in December and saw the surgeon for my consultation in January. I was banded on March 16th and have not looked back. Today I weigh 273 lbs. I have lost 52lbs since November and I feel great. I am able to eat healthy and I can honestly say that I don't miss the high fat, high-sugar food that I used to eat. I also used to be a caffeine junkie drinking a pot of coffee and 3-20oz Diet Cokes a day. Now I drink 8-10 glasses of Water a day and I may have 1 tea. For those of you considering surgery or those that are worried about how you will do I am here to say that if you believe in your heart that this is the only way you can lose the weight and you are ready to give up your old habits, then you can do it. It will save your life. I know it has mine.
