  1. Popcorn is funny.... for me it goes down fine but I spend the next hour bringing up the skins of the kernels... But I eat it alot... Not the kind in the movie theatre... the 100 calorie bags from the store.
  2. Metabolism does naturally slow with age, but your defication and adherence to your post-op program will ultimately determine how successful you will be. I've seen a lot of members on here mention that they do not exercise post-op and I think that's a crucial component that shouldn't be ignored. It is necessary to help re-establish a higher functioning metabolism, decreases excess skin, and is healthy for your heart and bones.
  3. Following! I am curious about this. I am not as worried about the core muscles as the extra skin (panni). But I do believe that tightening the underlying abs will help it all look better.

Swishbc,I read in a post once about people being upset about loosing an average of 1 pound a week. They said to take 1 pound of fat and put it in a skillet and melt it and thats what a pound of fat looks like. Just imagine if we take that 100 pounds we've lost and melted it what that would look like. It's gonna take some time but it is gonna be so worth it. Keep up the good work and keep us posted on your journey. Greg

    Firecrackers...how we doing?

Hey Tracy! I think a lot of people have stalls, and then there are a few of us that just keep on trucking. I am super glad I am in the latter group, except, I'm having skin issues already, and I still have 80 pounds to goal. I started out at 310, and hit 250 on Saturday! I'm thrilled with my weight loss, but not so much about the loose skin. Keep your chin up, you're doing great!!!

    Salads?

I've managed to have a little salad and I'm six weeks post op. I've found baby spinach ok and cucumber. Tomato ok but not the skins, and I have found I can handle a little avocado. Anything we can't chew into mush not good. Careful of highly fiberous veges. I had cabbage stuck and that hurt like buggery.

    Odd question!

Unless you're on medications which make you sun-sensitive post-surgery, I can't imagine any reason that you can't go tanning. Well, I can - it's hideously bad for your skin and can lead to melanoma - but you're an adult making your own decisions and it has nothing to do with being sleeved

First BIG emotional trigger since surgery!

Oh, Thank You so much! Your words brought goosebumps to my skin and tears to my eyes. Everything you mentioned are things I know will be catalysts for positive change. I need to add yoga and daily meditation. I know deep within that meditation is the key to opening myself on many levels. I think part of me is scared to go there...otherwise I would have already started. Having this VSG is part of releasing my demons and emotional shackles. Now I feel like I am free and can move freely forward. Mindful Breathing. I just read this today in a book (Living Buddha, Living Christ). The way to still the emotions, acknowledge them, and then let them flow away is through Mindful Breathing. Thank You for your wonderful words of encouragement!

Ok This Might Be Tmi But....

liquid in, liquid out. You won't become more regular until you start eating more solids. Once you get a few weeks post op, it will get better. After 4-6 weeks post op i was almost every morning going mostly normal, but I'm the opposite now, get more constipated but I don't get enough Fiber, which helps. But loose bowels are normal for now. Especially if you're mainly on liquids. It does get better. Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

    Pouch stretched or slippage?

As long as you are not experiencing heart burn or reflux at night I doubt it has slipped. it is possible you are just in need of a new fill and that the dry heaving may have settled the band a bit. As you loose weight the fat buildup around your stomach shrinks and that is what causes you to need additional fills. Good luck!
  12. Hey all, I have a 3 month wait between band removal and being sleeved. I'm concerned about weight regain and I'm looking for ways to try and maintain my weight (maybe even loose a little if I'm lucky) Has anyone tried the weight watchers pro point system? Did it work? Did you have to adjust the amount of points you were allocated?

    Ugh! A Stall

I only stalled for 4 days because my body is rejecting all foods. i want it then once it hit my tongue my body says no. my doctor said i was not eating enough to loose. So i went back to Popsicle, jelly and broth. it jump started me back and my body is slowly liking food. I bought hot pockets, burritos, and Vienna sausage. My body seems to like these slightly pureed the sausage I can eat two with a cracker. Also baby Snacks, the melt away and my body loves them.
  14. ------------ Yes!! I've cleaned out my entire closet and found several sizes! As of this weekend, I've found out that the last of the smallest sizes I was holding on to, are now getting loose - as KarenK stated. Went shopping today and bought a new suit a size I haven't worn in at least 15 years! OMG! Best of luck and much success to each of you!! These are certainly called sweet NSV's!
  15. Its an easy surgery I had it on aug 14.2008, I don't think you loose as quickly as you can with the band but most people I talked to were very satisfied. I lost 29lbs from pre diet to one week ago, but since I have been eating solid food now I have gained 2 lbs. Everybody says its just a plateau and it happens at this time but I am a little worried. good luck __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com

    Dating

ok, to play the dating game, you need a much thicker skin than that! People come and go... for no obvious reason and lots of time I am glad they are gone. And,i have been flakey too - I just am not invested until I get to know somebody. The hard part for me, is once i am invested, i hate things to end even if I want it to end. i know that sounds crazy, but it is how i feel. i just started dating again, after taking a break. I met the first person last night and what was incredibly refreshing is my ability to be completely straightforward. We spent a few hours together and at some point we spoke about very genuine things. There is something to be said for just not worrying too much about one person in the early stages - there are like a lot more out there where that one came from. don't give up so easily and don't focus too early on one person because about 95-99% percent of them aren't a good match or it isnt the right time for one or the other of you anyway.
  17. I am due to start puréed foods this weekend. Almost three weeks out - and I've not see much movement on the scales this week. But I've noticed a change in my shape, so not loosing heart. With eating so little, I think that how regular you are makes quite a difference to the scales, as does where you are in your cycle.
  18. I had sleeve surgery on July 6. I think that makes me 10 days post op. I have had a mix of emotions in that time. I was surprised by my lack of energy. My son gave me his cootie germs and they have settled in my chest. I am not getting on the scales until my two week date. I was kind of expecting the weight to just fall off and my clothes to become at least somewhat loose. However, I guess between the bloating and gas, that doesn't necessarily happen.

    Hypothyroid

I have hoshimotos as well, I am on 200 a day but need to lower that dose because I'm hyper now and I get horrible hot flashes from it. My endocrinologist said as I loose weight my synthroid dose will drop. It is part weight based and part function based.

    Swimming

Major changes in buoyancy! But otherwise, no real changes needed. I notice some extra movement on the loose skin but it's nothing crazy.
  21. Hi there! I've never been on a site like this and I've never posted anywhere, so I'm a little out of my element. I'm four weeks post-op and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced any anxiety after surgery. I kind of feel like (what have I done, did I make a mistake, will I ever feel hungry again, etc...) I've never had panic attacks, but after my surgery I had one. Now I'm on an Anti-anxiety/depression pill. (never had to take that either) I know because of my worrying, I'm loosing my appetite. That's not helping either. I'm trying so hard to keep it together, but I'm worried about EVERYTHING! Has anyone else experienced these emotions?!? Thanks
  22. Longhorn: You seem to be at a nice restriction. Sounds almost perfect. I just got another fill today and the PA thinks I should be getting close to where I want to be. Depending on this fill, we might start going to .5cc's for future fills. I don't want to end up overfilled and have to start the de-fill mess. Biggest Loser: Are you advised to go to clear or full liquids for a day or two after your fills? My Dr. has us be on full liquids two days and then two days of soft food after a fill. The fill can swell or irritate the stomach/pouch and it can need a couple days to relax. If you eat regular food too fast, you increase the stress on the stomach/pouch and then it rejects the food. The rule many people on the forum have mentioned is once a food gets stuck, you go to liquids for the rest of the day to give your stoma/pouch healing time. You should be at a fill level where you can eat many foods (not necessarily all foods) like where you were when you said you could eat "moderately" and "felt better". If you were at that place maybe you didn't need the next fill when you replaced the .5cc they originally took out. It can be very hard to figure out if we are head hungry or eating because we're bored or distracted. We need to evaluate how long after eating we have a feeling of fullness or satisfaction and how easily we can resist going back for seconds. The signs of "being full" I think are hard for us to recognize because we were always so used to feeling stuffed as a sign that we'd had enough to eat. I know we all want to compare how much we have in our bands and there can be some averages, but everybody has a different stomach inside, so your 3cc's might be perfect for you, while 6cc's might be perfect for me. Some Lucky people never need a fill! Perhaps a small defill would get you to a place where you can eat healthly food in the right portions. After waiting one hour after a meal, if I am hungry I drink a bottle of Water first before I decide if I really "need" something to eat. You need to have the right fill so you can eat solid food that will stay in your pouch, soups and liquids will go through your band and you'll feel hungry again sooner. So a too loose band or too tight band is not good for achieving the weigh loss we desire. I hope you'll talk to your Dr about the problems you're having and ask them to help you with a solution.
  23. I just had my first fill a week and a half ago. I go again at the end of February. It was noticeable and I began to loose weight again. I may need a little more. I have about 4.7 ccs in a 10 cc band.
  24. I agree, obsession about food is much reduced with restriction. However, I do believe that it takes some planning to eat the right things all day; making sure you get in your protien yada yada. In the morning, I pretty much plan out what I will eat for the day, and even what times, depending on what I have going on that day. I want to make sure I don't make a bad choice in the "heat of hunger" or let myself get to hungry. I eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. I have steadily been loosing 2-3 pounds a week for a little over 6 months. Best wishes to all!
