I have PCOS too and what a pain in arse it is for weight loss. My OB who is head honcho for west of Scotland says VGS will be amazing for PCoS but you must start BC before surgery as quickly becomes obvious than periods will get mental and fertility jumps up. Angel Wing hugs sent 2u4 comfort. BCBS of Michigan approved to remove my excess skin on my legs & arms. Luckily the doctor scheduled it for the next week & I got it done. But after it was done, BCBS reniged on paying for any of the bill. U may think at least I got it done. No not really bc any skin removal surgery needs to be tweaked so it's uneven & huge ugly scars. I may have to file bankruptcy bc my husband died shortly afterwards so I no longer have his income to help pay bills which this surgery became. There isn't any magic surgery or magic pill. It's U that makes the difference in your own improvements even after surgery! Just don't give up on not giving up on yourself!! Even without surgery follow the postoperative eating to kick start your weight loss goal. With or without surgery it's all determination, self control & willpower always. Best wishes 2u!! Worst Part @ 1 Week Post-Op: Medication
jaynamy3 replied to Didjit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I COMPLETELY agree with you. Then..... the powder guck gets like a glob of goo bc you can't swallow enough Water to really dislove it. I would say it's definitely the worst part for me also. I am one week post -op tomorrow morning. Amy☆☆☆ -

I have it but as long as I don't eat anything that contains sugar I'm fine. I also have to have a higher amount of Protein than carbs whenever I have carbs. I stupidly ate over a cup of regular banana pudding last weekend. No reaction right away. Then over 1/2 hour later I started getting real warm, a sign my sugars spiking. Then 45 mins. later I started sweating profusely & got extremely weak BC my sugar level was dropping. I asked my fiancée to get me a glass of milk which usually brings me out of it. I plummeted so fast I only had the strength to take 1 swallow of milk. My sugar level dropped to 43 faster than it ever did, needing sucrose asap, which u can purchase by the diabetic meters everywhere. Once I got my strength back, I immediately drank a 30g Protein Drink & was fine again. Except I had to take a shower & change my wringing wet sweaty clothes. Just avoid eating sugar laden anything & stick to low carbs & high protein Snacks & meals so this will never happen. I knew better so it was my own fault. I'm still having trouble with this!! I opted for the sleeve bc I was never a "sweets", carb person but I could EAT...alot. a "volumous" eater, I used to joke. lol however, its not funny anymore... although I do eat healthily, avoiding carby, doughy, sweety (anything I basically should be). I feel that I am able to eat TOO much of anything.. I have a food scale & containers w measurements of what I should be eating, but I have yet to put them to use.. I rem learning that if you "eat properly" (we all know Protein 1st) the sleeve will do its job! I just feel like I am able to consume too much @ one sitting, therefore my calories are prob through the roof. what I ate today, really most days.. 2 (medium) fried eggs, 2 small saug patties 1/2 dollar size.. lunch was rotessire chicken & salad w feta, toms and organic dressing.. dinner will prob be more of the same did I weigh/measure anything?? nooo... so I'm sabotaging myself ugh

I have this and I'm not sleeved yet. It started a couple years ago and my BS will bottom out a few hours after sugary Snacks or meals. The lowest I recorded so far was 34 and I was incredibly incoherent. I was under the impression that it was a prediabetic issue, like you make too much insulin for the sugar and it becomes overkill. But I also have issues very similar to dumping syndrome as well. I really hope these things won't become magnified with surgery, that's terrifying. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

They asked me whether I thought people stared at me, were making fun of me & if I thought if they were whispering about me. Consider b4u answer BC if u say yes they'll think u mean all the time not just once in awhile. Sent from my VK700 using the BariatricPal App

It took like 2 more months after my sleep study. My sleep study was a couple days after Christmas. It took like 2 weeks for those results. Then after I was done doing all the testing on the sheets she said there was a second round of testing which included another nutritionist appointment, psych evual & meet with the anesthesiologist. They were super least minute on giving me those dates, they told me Saturday that I have a 2 hour appointment today. They said they go but surgery date order for the scheduling of these last appointments. It might have took longer for me though bc I had my upper GI after sleep apnea Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Psychological evaluation
Sweetmel7 replied to evy17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you currently in counseling. I would suggest that you place your self in it if you are not now bc it will definitely address any issues with food. When I did the psych she waspleased that I was in counseling to address whatever stuff that I didn't when i was a child. The psych gave me a list of questions and I was approved. She spoke to me about why I wanted tohave the DS loop and i passed it. My suggestion is to place yourself in therapy even if the psych didn't recommend it bc it is an adjustment to deal with the new you and trust me it will trigger stuff within you. I can onlyspeak for myself. I am three years post op in Dec i can say that I have a different relationship with food. I also had to switch therapists bc i needed a therapistthat was trained in dbt therapy (dbtselfhelp.com). This helped me tremendously. All the best with you. Still intrigued by the smell of food I can't have
Sleeved_G posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm only 1 week post-op and I've followed my diet and walking 100%. Last night I went to my brother and sister-in-law's house to watch a movie and they had pizza. I didn't dare look at it but all I could think was "So I wonder at what point can I take a bite of pizza? Will it be bad? Surely a small bite can't hurt 6 months from now!" I'm staying with my parents until I make the trip home tomorrow and they made gluten free Pasta tonight. (My mom has celiac) In the past I wouldn't think much of GF pasta but tonight I'm craving it SO bad! The smell is making my stomach growl bc it smells so delicious. I had to take my chicken broth and go sit in my room with the door closed. I'm afraid that if I'm having these urges/thoughts now, it will only get worse. Anyone else experience this? Well, @@2babutterfly - it sure is good to hear from you!! All is well here. Had a meeting at church last night and they fed us, which can be a trigger for me to eat the wrong things and/or too much. Thankfully, it was BBQ and I was able to eat reasonably. I stuck to small portions of two sides and about 4 oz of meat. Calories, carbs, and Protein - CHECK! My positive is that I made thoughtful decisions in that situation. I've switched over to only eating out of a one cup Pyrex bowl, and using only my mini forks & spoons, here at home. I'm still surprised that a cup of food satisfies me for about three hours. It keeps me from overeating and bingeing, which is a win all in it's own. How is everybody??? What positive choices are you making each day??? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have AL BC/BS. I was denied. My sleep apnea wasn't bad enough. SO, I paid for my surgery with a loan and using my medical spending account. It was much easier than jumping through so many damn hoops. My BMI wasn't high enough for BC/BS. I didn't want to get any bigger and wait another two years.

How long was your process?
Heather I replied to Mandat89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had two insurance/doctor office screw-ups/delays, but barring those, 10 months initial information session to surgery with all the BS appointments, CPAP stuff, lab work done, NUT appointments, surgeon appointments, psych eval. -
Hey! I'm in NoVA with FepBlue too. Did you have surgery? Are you using Inova? I'm supposed to have my information submitted to BCBS Fed on 28 February. Needless to say, I've been anxious about getting everything approved since my first appointment back in November. Sent from my VS986 using the BariatricPal App

Revision from Lap Band to Sleeve
hermione53 replied to RavenDW17's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi, I've been through a band to sleeve conversion after an initial band and then a revision. My band removal and sleeve surgery were done 8 weeks apart. I had my sleeve surgery 6 weeks ago. The surgery went really well even though I had to have an unexpected second hiatal hernia repair. Apparently the surgery took longer than expected. I didn't have much in the way of gas pains. My pain meds worked well and I went home day 2. The recovery was more painful than I'd anticipated so I stayed on narcotics over 2 weeks. I'd heard sleeve surgery is easier than a gallbladder removal. I'd say it was the same as my gallbladder removal. More painful than band surgery, but I'm 18 years older now so that may have something to do with it. It was really hard to bend over for a while and then voila about 2 1/2 weeks in it got a lot better. sleeping was tough bc I'm a side sleeper and I had to sleep on my back for a while. I took four weeks off from work and I'm so glad I did because I needed the time to get my energy back. Now I'm feeling great and am SO happy to have made this change. It's such a different experience physically and emotionally. Good luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Hi there, my BMI was just under what was required (no comorbidities). I asked, should I gain weight to meet the criteria? They couldn't really tell me yes. I gained the weight anyway. When I got to that weight I asked your question bc my band removal and sleeve surgery were going to be two months apart. I was told no, I wouldn't be denied if I lost weight. It was that the number was documented that counts. I was told, however, that I could be denied for gaining a lot of weight. I'm not so sure that that's true. I gained 6 more pounds in those 2 months. Good luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

No leak test - self pay
MemphisWLS replied to rharris75's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@high functioning. No he does 3 a day, he can probably do more but he does other surgeries other than BS and he was one of the first doctors in the US to start doing the sleeve. Alot of surgeons do a leak test before the sew you up, you don't need an additional leak test post op, now if a surgeon does do one there is no harm in that either. With that being said, nothing in life is guaranteed, you can have all those leaks done and still get a leak. We all pray to have a safe and successful surgery. Itchy Throat & Coughing. HELP! (4 days post-op)
Sleeved_G posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have had a terribly dry throat since the surgery, which leaves a tickle in my throat, and the coughing is AWFUL! I had an upper scope done 4 days before my sleeve surgery and my throat was already irritated from the tube going down my throat during that procedure. Having a tube back in my mouth during my WLS surgery didn't help either. Has anyone had an itchy throat with major pain from coughing? It feels like my big incision is ripping open every time I barely cough. I've been going away from the fruit flavored Protein drinks for now bc they irritate my throat. When does the pain from the incisions go away? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
STUPID question.. abt measuring/weighing
TaureanMe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG my mother would kill me for not knowing this... if I'm measuring/weighing what I'm eating is it 4oz OR 1/4cup? and/or does it depend on if its liquid vs solid foods? I've kinda gone along not really measuring bc I was taught that as long as you're eating "correctly" Protein 1st, then the sleeve will stop you.. and it does.. however I'm wondering if I'm consuming too many calories *per day bc I'm not aware of how much I'm eating @ one sitting. *I'm really sensitive abt this due to my serious STALL... so no wise cracks, lol.. I'm eating right I just think TOO much! -
devastating news has brought me to a screeching halt.

I'm sorry for your mom.. my mom passed 3 wks after my surgery,, up until that point she was very delusional & was actually quite funny bc she'd ask how MUCH I'd lost by then (maybe 10+) and she'd say "that's it!!".. you'll be ok, you'll have to learn & adopt new coping mechanisms.. God Bless ur family -
I want to ask a question with out offending
Salee replied to krissyvsg's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Your age has a lot to do with whether you loose some elasticity in your skin making the loose skin not to go away. It also has a lot to do with how obese you got b4 you got your weight loss operation. Usually the hair loss is minimal & whether hair loss runs in your family, especially if women in your family hair thins with age. The skin on your face is always thinner when you loose weight quickly but most of it goes back to whatever is normal for your face shape. Look at photos of yourself b4 you started gaining weight as a child if need be. When skin is stretched out from becoming obese or even pregnancies, everyone is different from their body shapes & skin's elasticity. Some lucky few women never get stretch makes during pregnancy. The more stretch marks that occurred during your weight gain the less likely your skin will snap back firm to when you were a child or teen. The healthier way you feel loosing weight is the biggest plus ever than staying extremely obese! I've gotten off high blood pressure meds for the 1st time in my adult life & I'm 65. I started getting extremely obese in my mid20s. So I can honestly say I am really enjoying my 60s more than my late 20s, 30s, 40s & 50s because I can walk without getting short of breath & I can actually buy stylish clothes finally. There are side effects to being obese & side effects to surgery. Exercise once your able to! But if the loose skin is your main hate of loosing your weight then you need to save money to get it removed or wear shape garments so you feel better looking in your smaller clothes. For Pete's sake even thin movie stars wear spanks under their red carpet outfits BC they try to elude perfection. We're all our own worst enemies no matter how rich & famous you are. Lol Be so proud of yourself what you did to help yourself & never give up BC the best is yet to come. Smiles goes miles & a huge healer for your outlook on life! Big hugs to you all with a smile included! Sent from my VK700 using the BariatricPal App -
How do you handle people asking questions
Sleeved_G replied to XmeghannstarX's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've avoided seeing friends in the past bc of how much weight I had gained. I missed out on so many things and people became curious and also took my absence personally. The decision for WLS is something that I'm weirdly okay with telling people about now. At first I thought "oh hell no! I'm not telling anyone!" I care way too much what people think. So this time I'm not caring. If it means I'm happy and healthy then who cares! It's not their body to judge. Wish I would've had this mentality all along. I am only 3 days post-op so no questions about my WLS yet. Someone once told me they say "I've been hardcore watching my portions and sticking to low carb/high Protein. I've also stepped up my gym game" it's definitely not a lie! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
