Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass
kweenSash replied to NYCGirl9269's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If I knew what I know now I would have just went with bypass from the jump. The regain is ridiculous but that was my fault and the pandy didn’t help either. So now im headed for a revision in December😫 -
When I had my sleeve I was in nursing school I had surgery that Thursday had to stay in the hospital for 2 days because of my blood pressure. Was released Sunday and was at school Monday morning. Even tho everyone said I looked like death lol I got through it and graduated! With this revision I’m hoping to do the same. I hate being at home honestly 😫

I'm a guy, 13 months post bypass, and honestly I only count calories, and protein. I try to keep it under 1500 cals, and always try to hit the 90g of protein the dietician wants me at. Carbs work themselves out, because I may want that muffin, but if it's 300 calories of pure carbs, that's a fifth of my daily count, and it does nothing for actually feeling full, so I may eat half, or less, and add a protein.🤷🏾♂️

I got gastric bypass on September 19 2022. So it is fresh in my head. I call it my fat brain. My worst of my bad eating habits is eating late at night and lots of it. For me the second week was when I started to really look at other people and how and what they are. I kept thinking about not how I miss the food and snacks but more on the line of the poison people are stuffing into themselves. I started to really hate all the garbage food i see everywhere. Tv ads , social media, the supermarket and shopping of garbage food people buy. I kept seeing overweight and more and more people struggling. There are so many that are in worse shape than myself and most do not see or have given up. I am proud and happy you are making a change for yourself and family. It isn't going to be an easy road and it will be a long journey. I have been fat for 30 years and my health issues started 15 years ago. But I ignored them and kept trying to find an easy fix. Diet this and diet that. These magic pills or drink this magic shake. As I start seeing the real progress I'm making I find it easier to continue. I have to . Not continuing will only lead me to being in pain, being diabetic, struggling to get up out of bed with out feeling like a truck ran me over, sleep apnea, the list never seems to end. This group of people here are real and also struggle with you. But we are here for eachother. Don't give up. You are stronger than you give yourself credit. If you fall off the wagon. Get you fat ass back on! I'm like most on here struggle yet must keep going on. I send you love and positive vibes for you. You will be and see results in time. I started at 265.5 per surgery. Was 250 at surgery. Dropped to 243 and stalled for almost three weeks and today I'm at 236 five week after surgery. Still feel week and get tired quickly but gaining energy and strength a bit more every day. Keep your nutrition up and your proteins up, take Colligen and biotin, and walk as much as you can. It makes a big difference. . Best wishes and good health!!

Hello all, This is my first post ☺️ I had gastric band procedure done about 10 years ago. I recently had a CT scan and it showed my common bile duct is dilated up to 1.4cm! All the rest of the scan looks good and my blood work is normal. I have read some studies suggesting that weight loss surgeries can cause common bile duct dilation but the studies are referring to bypass and sleeve surgeries. Does anyone have a similar issue with a lap band or any insight on this? Thank you in advance 🦋🌻

Revision from vsg to rny here. Yet again, I didn't use anything. I had surgery, slept, woke up, walked around, slept again, went home first thing in the morning. I basically brought a baggy dress that just slides over my head, comfortable walking shoes and a small pillow to hug, just in case of a bumpy ride home. Of course, I always bring phone, wallet with ID... etc.

After my vsg, I slept in the bed as usual. i am not a stomach sleeper but a side sleeper. After my rny revision, I slept with a wedge, but mainly cause I had one. I don't think you need a recliner. I have been thinking about a tummy tuck, so I guess I'll have to cross that post-op sleeping crossroads when I get to it. It doesn't sound pleasant! lol

New to the group Vsg to bypass
TerryCieniewicz replied to kweenSash's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi I just had the sleeve revised to the bypass on 10/17/22. I would like to be bypass buddies is you want. I am still in the dark as to what all to expect with this surgery but I will pass on anything I have learned -
I’m post op bypass day 5. I was in hospital one night. I slept 12 hours from surgery time. I have never been that far under for that long. I never used my iPad at all. Bring athletic slides to wear home. I used my chapstick and fresh underwear. No bra as one of the incisions is at a bad spot. I brought ear plugs but I’m Used to them. I had all kinds of things prepared and needed none of it. I came home next day and am a stomach sleeper. That was a bust but was able to gingerly put a pillow under me on third night. I have slept in bed since.

Vsg to bypass this December
kweenSash replied to kweenSash's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi David, Well I have some gerd with weight gain with my vsg surgery which was in 2018. So last year I asked if I can get resleeved due to the weight gain and slight gerd issues. and i was told in California they don’t do that the only option I had was bypass, So I went with that..my surgery was cancelled at 0100 last year due to my iron levels. I had to do the 10 week class as part of the revision requirements. So I’m all cleared now (this year) i plan on doing things way different this time around and actually puttin in the work..with my sleeve I didn’t workout or anything (I don’t advise that all) plus we were in the pandy sooooooo crossing fingers that I find things that help me along this new journey so I stay consistent but it’s all mental Honestly! -

Vsg to bypass this December
ShoppGirl replied to kweenSash's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi David. Have you met with your surgeon yet? They will likely have an opinion of which surgery they feel is best for you. If you are on certain medications they may trend towards sleeve IF all other things are equal but if you have GERD they typically lean towards bypass (not always though). Those are not the only factors and it’s not exactly that clear cut. It certainly doesn’t hurt to do your research but you surgeon should help considerably to make this decision. Mine said he would do sleeve or bypass (if I really wanted it) but he recommended sleeve. He thought bypass was overkill for me and the NP thought because of my medications that the conservative option was safer. I didn’t lose all the weight I hoped though and struggle to keep it off. I will always sorta wonder if I would’ve lost more with bypass. Who knows though. I am on medication that causes weight gain so I may be in the same exact boat with bypass. It’s really hard to say. They are both really good surgeries, though. Regardless of whether I can fit into my skinny jeans I am very happy I did the surgery. I was already beginning to have knee pain with exercise and I know that at the rate I was going I would be even heavier now than I was pre surgery with more knee pain so the Fact that I am maintaining anywhere below that weight and pain free is better than I could’ve done on my own. I didn’t have to decide on which surgery until my pre op appointment. Hopefully your team will give you time to make your decision too. -
So I've had three surgeries in three weeks (mini gastric bypass, plus two emergency surgeries for bowel obstructions due to internal adhesions from the gastric bypass...). I'm a stomach sleeper and planned to sleep in a recliner if necessary, but after the first surgery, I was fine propped up with extra pillows for a couple of days, and then within 4 days, I was sleeping on my stomach again. Healing from the last emergency surgery is taking much longer (I don't think I was meant to be cut open THREE TIMES), but I was still able to sleep in bed the first night home (3 days after surgery), as long as I was propped up. It wasn't so much pain, but more that the swelling from the surgery seemed to press more on my stomach when I wasn't flat on my back.

I never had a lap band (I had sleeve) but I have seen a lot of people on here posting with issues and most of them end up having to revise to another procedure eventually. May be worth doing some research if you are having issues.

Not near California but Hello and welcome. Also, your profile says your surgery is lap band. Are you doing a revision??

Vsg to bypass this December

Is this revision due to GERD? I'm trying to make the decision between sleeve and bypass myself so any experience you had would be helpful. Thanks. -

Yeah I developed it in my teens too. No I'm a revision due to... GERD. I had Lap Band first. Zero Yelp ⭐ Do Not Recommend. I would be the incredible shrinking lady if I lost 180 pounds in 3 months, lol. The sidebar stats here don't really give the opportunity to show that you've had revision, but you can see it if you click to read a persons profile... if they've updated their info. -

I'm going through Franciscan Center for Weight Management, David Swedler, DO. I've made it through my insurance company requirements and was certified for sleeve, but I'm on the fence now between that and bypass. Do you have a preference yet? Congrats on getting started! -

I don't seem to dump. Although I haven't really pushed my diet much since surgery. You're right to be concerned about GERD, wls induced GERD is awful. I have/had? IBS-D and Bypass seems to have normalized it. My surgeon said that it would improve my symptoms. I was skeptical. But she was right it seems. -

Wow, 30 pills! This does make me feel better. I'm still going to ask my surgeon and PCP, but I've been reading that Cox-1 specific NSAIDS liike Celebrex and Mobic are ok for regular use. I'm on Mobic (meloxicam) for osteoarthritus. I realize the need may be reduced after weight loss but age could bring it back and NSAIDS are about all there is for this. On malabsorbtion, after looking at all the surgical schematics which distort the dimensions, I thought maybe it was only a foot bypassed. It's actually up to 5 feet which I guess could make some difference. Still, that's out of 26 feet of small intestines. I think I'm going to stop worrying about dumping. It sounds like something that can be controlled and may happen with either surgery. GERD concerns me more. I was concerned about it because I have IBS and diarrhea with cramps has been a nemisis for a long time 😣 -
Wow, my first wls was done on 08/01/2014. My highest recorded weight was 289 and that was underestimate. I am currently 215. I have GERD & 2 hernias! I am in pain each day. I work full-time and have insurance. I found a new doctor. It appears, he is in my corner. I have 2 avenues to pay for this revision. Remember that you are important and obesity is a real disease. Hiii everyone I’m Sasha. I had vsg surgery in 2018 and I will be having it revised to bypass 12/22. Looking for any surgery buddies around that time. I’m also excited to read everyone’s journeys on the subject so that I may prepare and not seem so alone. I hope everyone is well on this Saturday❤️
