Body Dysmorphia is real
MSStoney replied to loridee11's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, I'm going through some of this as well. Down 103 lbs which is past my goal but is a healthy weight for me. It is the saggy skin. Never thought it would bother me but it does. I'm OK when I see myself in clothes. it is when dressing, etc. and I see the saggy skin that I still feel heavy. It is not even so much what it looks like but what I have to do to manage it. Not excited about doing skin removal surgery but am now considering it. But I remind myself of how wonderful I feel and how much more energy I have compared to 10 months ago. I feel incredible and can do so much more than I even imagined. And every morning I wake up and write down 3 gratitudes in my life. Makes some saggy skin seem pretty trivial. Good Luck! -
I've been on maintenance for several months but now want to loose another 15-20 lbs but don't know how to do that. I want a quick start so thinking of doing a week of the pre-op diet or a week of the post -op. Has anyone jump started their post program like this? Any suggestions?

I know others have posted about this, but body dysmorphia is so real. I am wearing size small in shirts (and some of them feel big). I do still wear a 8 or 10 bottom which isn't tiny, but was always my goal size (I'm 5'10 so would be way to thin in a 0 or 2)... And yet, I still see myself as overweight and as the biggest person in any given room. Even in pictures taken Saturday I feel like I look large. Some of that I think is due to the excess skin, especially on my legs... and some may be some of my jackets and stuff are still older and too big. But a lot of it is just my mind playing games. Anyway - has anyone gotten past this and able to recognize their own healthy body? Any tips for things that worked for you?

I must be the only one that doesn’t want really fast weight loss. I want to try and limit malnutrition and loose skin 😩

compression garments are common after plastic surgery, but I haven't heard of doing it to keep your skin tight while losing weight. It doesn't sound like that would really do much since the skin sags because the fat that keeps it "unsagged" is disappearing underneath it.

Perfect! Thanks so much for your help!! I will definitely contact them. I know it’s been only 2 week after your surgery (based on your previous messages). Are you loosing weight already?

I'd definitely run it by your doctor because none of us can diagnose you. But if it makes you feel better, I had a super sharp pain near one of my incisions too. It was near the surface of the skin, not deep inside. My doc said it was nerve pain and that it would subside over time. He was right, it did, but WOW - until then it really bugged me. I would look down at my skin unable to believe nothing was happening there because it felt like something was cutting me!

Any March Surgeries?
Lahela replied to Hopefulin2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You get to eat cream if wheat! You are so lucky! My surgeon has me on No Grains, no raw veggies, no fuits with seeds/skins, no red meat, no raw fish/shellfish and no starchy veggies. It is so difficult. -
I've seen some folks in their 20's have remarkable skin reshaping (skin snaps back and doesn't sag). Nice young elastic skin helps a lot.

I’m a 20 year old guy and I’m just over 2 months post op and down 64 pounds with about another 75 or so left until I reach my goal weight. Men (within 10 years of my age) who had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy procedure done, what did you look like when you reached your goal weight? Excess skin? Noticeable muscle definition? Just trying to get an idea of how I may look like it’s very difficult to imagine what I could look like after being obese for about a decade.

Out of surgery
Pilot my best self replied to Bella2021's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anyone else super itchy? I’m 7 days out and this is the 2nd day my skin is itchy around the incisions - I know it’s just healing. But it’s sooo itchy. Moisturizer isn’t helping. -
Still fighting with my insurance over plastics. That I will an at-least-partly self-pay is something I have accepted already (I want a lower body lift as well and a thorax wall lift with breast skin-removal). It will be four surgeries in sum I guess, each being 3 months apart. I'd like to have it in two rounds as well but the surgeon I chose (seems to be the most realistic and honest one plus his results seem to be good and I don't want to travel far away) won't do that. Oh, well... Germans have a different stance on everything self-pay than Americans, I notice it again and again. It also irks me that I have to take vacation days for surgery. What I also notice again is that every time I think "Ok, weight loss is finally done!" there goes some more weight. I already noticed that I started losing again after my board certification on 22nd March. (So much for that "window of opportunity" regarding weight loss.) Since a weight loss of e. g. 3 kg or so really shows once you seem to be past a certain BMI I'm saying once again: glad I've waited!! @sillykitty: wasn't it you who said something in that line as well? Like a rather small amount of weight made a hell of a difference you didn't expect?

I'm 16 months post op from a lower body lift and breast augmentation. I had several consultations and chose the surgeon that would do it all in one surgery (not the only reason I chose my surgeon, but one of them). My surgery was only 3.5 hours long. My surgeon seems to work unusually fast, which is at least in part due to his male PA, who assists in surgery. I have scars, but are quite faded by now. In general fair skin scars better than darker complexions. It was painful, but manageable, I took opioids for only a few days. (If opioids make you nauseous, try a scopolamine patch. I have the same issue and it works wonders) I have actually had a 2nd round of plastic surgery since then. Both times I didn't need a significant amount of help. I have no regrets about plastic surgery. It has given m a body I had never dreamed was possible. There is a plastic surgery forum on here. You can read about a lot of people's journeys.

Picture of my stomach after Roux-en-y
EvoXMr posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AfterbThe 1st surgery, the doctor concluded that I had blockage inside my small intestine so they had to open my stomach to clear it. They had to insert 2 tubes and over 30 staples. After 1 week and 2 days of misery in the ICU and normal room I'm out of the hospital. Currently on stage 2, full liquid diet and lost 26LBS since the beginning of my surgery (March 16th). I get the staples taken out on the 7th and the last tube gets taken out early next month. So, this has not at all been an easy journey for me. I've been very weak and I feel dehydrated even tho I drink clear liquid alot! I'm going to my 2nd infusion Monday to help with my dehydration. If I could say I regret the surgery, I would say absolutely. How ever I've been very over weight and no matter the diet I couldn't loose anything, especially having the medical problems I suffer with. I wish you all good luck, I know I need it. Keep your head up and know there are and will always be someone there for you. God bless. °Engaged° Daddy of 1°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•° -
Why did you pick such a high goal weight? Your BMI is STILL overweight!
starladustangel replied to Creekimp13's topic in Rants & Raves
My surgeon actually set my goal weight to 168 pounds which is overweight but said he would be happy with anything under 200. Been maintaining 145 for the last 4 months. My surgeon is pretty happy with that. I lost far more than what he expected me to lose and more than I expected to lose. I had a 54.1 BMI so no interested in being super thin. If I can maintain here at a 24.9 BMI long term I will be thrilled. The goal of surgery was for me to be able to be more physically active without pain. I hike and bike with my kids now. I have so much loose skin though. -
I have faith skin as well so this is good to know

It's similar for me. I've had a sore throat since December. I take two PPIs plus an H2 daily. Often take zofran due to the nausea and vomiting. I eat a very limited diet right now to try to keep it all in check. Endoscopy showed reflux and gastritis. My gastroenterologist sent me back to my bariatric surgeon. Saw my surgeon last week and he said the next step is upper GI xrays to make sure the endoscopy didn't miss anything. I have a lot of rashes from excess abdominal skin and was hoping I could starting looking into skin removal this year but I guess not now

Low BMI Rate of Weight Loss?
Carole Williams replied to H2P2007's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm also getting ready for my sleeve surgery on April 22. Start my diet tomorrow super nervous too. I think it's normal to feel this way. I'm focusing on the here and now because the next 3 weeks on 900 calorie daily is going to be my current struggle but it's preparing me for my new way of eating. Looking forward to loosing my weight and feeling better. I have hip & lower back chronic pain. I weigh 247lbs, height 5'3" BMI 42.5 Sent from my Lenovo TB-X606F using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am a woman and have high abdomen fat too. It is so embarrassing to me. Anyway, drinking water and protein will help the skin sag less but if it is a problem area often it may not be to go until later. My suggestion would be to take photos and also measure...besides being active. I have surgery in a few weeks. My high fat abdomen has been big 50 lbs less so I know it will take time. I may always have a bigger abdomen. After a couple years I do plan on getting liposuction and a tummy tuck...depending on funds. You COULD have abdominal wall separation. It is more common with women who have had multiple pregnancies but I am sure it could happen with a man too. If you lay down you put your 4 fingers around or slightly above the belly button if it feels like there is separation it can be repaired with surgery and some exercises. Some people do go to the physical therapist to get the exercises best suited to them. There are also programs online to help close the muscle separation. The muscle separation makes the abdominals pop out more.

Gastric Sleeve BMI 35
ShoppGirl replied to rastapl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My BMI was 36 and I am three weeks post op and also think I am taller than they measured me (posture just bad with heavier breasts) so I may have been 35 BMI. I wish I had done it sooner and just paid for it cause the younger you have it the less lose skin you will have. -
Itching is part of the healing process and the level of itchiness can vary from person to person. I had good luck with moisturizing the skin, the use of a cold pack, and massaging the area. A physician may suggest the use of antihistamine. Hope your able to get some relief. 😄

I love oysters, and have a relatively loose band. The only foods I seem to have problems with are carbs- pasta, bread, tortillas etc. And eating when I’m starving. I just slurped down 6 raw oysters with no problem. They slid right down. But they were small oysters. So I would say it depends on how tight your band is and how big the oysters are. What I did was order fresh oysters from the grocery store. I shucked them myself, then added a little lemon juice and salt. I did it in the privacy of my own home in case it didn’t go well. And it went great. I’m getting more next week!

I love raw oysters. My band is relatively loose. I only have problems with pasta, bread, and if I try to eat when I’m starving. My experience with raw oysters is it depends on the size of the oyster and how tight your band is. I did 6 small oysters with absolutely no problem. Slid right down

The ins and outs of loose skin: NS treatments, Inconveniences and issues
Pilot my best self replied to Pilot my best self's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh- just to have that hourglass shape again! You look fantastic even Pre-PS. But you echo all my concerns. Though being 70+ lbs heavier, I expect my skin will be more problematic to just my everyday comfort. It’s a problem I will be glad to see replace my difficulty bending, running and fitting into seats! Did you rely on compression garments? Did they help or were they uncomfortable? thanks for sharing!
