Great job! My doctors are very happy with where I am. I've regained about 10 pounds, which I'm not super happy about, but here we are. LOL! My personal weight goal is 150. My doctor's goal for me is 163. The lowest I got was 166. I'm struggling with food choices, right now. I'm eating too much protein. But proteins are easy, grab-and-go, fast to prepare, so they're what I tend to reach for. But, they also make you gain weight, if you eat too much of them. I'm trying to strike a balance. I've also developed hypoglycemia. So, I have to eat about every 2 hours. When I prep my food, I do better with my eating. Again, the grab-and-go thing really helps. And having veggies already washed and cut up, in the fridge, encourages me to eat less protein and more vegetables - which I really need to be doing. But, overall, I'm doing really well. I'm no longer diabetic. My cholesterol is normal. My blood pressure is actually on the low end. I'm off of all my obesity-related medications. I had my final visit with my therapist, on Tuesday. He thinks I'm in a really good place and don't need him anymore. Besides a couple of little speed bumps I've had along the way (an issue with my diaphragm and the hypoglycemia) this has been an amazing, wonderful, journey. I have no regrets.

This is the first time I’ve read someone on the same exact preop diet as me lol after day 4 you will be just fine it’ll be smooth sailing. I am currently on day 9 and have been fine apart from when Instagram shows me some food ad 😂 keep your eyes on the prize 🎉 you are worth the sacrifice and the work it takes to do this ❤️💪🏼

@summerseeker is on the money. You’ve just had pretty major surgery & have lots of sutures & stables holding your new digestive system together. It is easy to forget when we can’t actually see the wound. You’ll probably experience cramps, spasms, discomfort for a while until you’re more fully healed. Though it will happen less frequently & less intensively as you recover. Don’t forget too your tummy can be pretty fussy/sensitive about certain foods & liquids for a while which can make finding what you can tolerate eating & drinking challenging at times. Lots of trial & error to begin but it really does get better & easier. I found warm drinks more soothing too (I even warmed some of my shakes) but yes some say the colder the better. I also used to dilute my shakes & soups at first to make them both thinner & make the flavour less intense. All the best. -

Thanks @summerseeker! I'm fairly sure it is from my stomach being so new. I had this issue with my bladder after a hysterectomy, it was spastic for a while like it forgot how to work from all the nerves cut in the area and its position being moved. That's how my stomach feels right now. Thankfully I'm on Dexilant which is a very good PPI and ensures I have no acid issues. I metabolize omeprazole too quickly for it to work, which I thankfully found out BEFORE surgery! Anything thickened like a cream soup or yogurt with milk provokes the spasms really bad, so I think that will have to wait until I'm at the pureed stage, maybe by then the spasms will have stopped! I did try different temps because I was drinking everything room temp from the hospital. Turns out my stomach prefers either really icy drinks or hot ones, no in between. LOL I remember you saying you had prolonged nausea issues from the surgery. Did it come with spasms like this or was it just nausea and acidity? -

You have a very raw surgery cut line in your tiny stomach. When we can not see it, we kind of forget the inside of us. All your nerves have been cut as well as the skin. It will take at least a month for you to be healed. When you do not eat real food the acid in our stomachs has nothing to work on and makes us feel nauseous. The liquids we drink do not make things any better as they swish about. It feels like a storm at sea. In time it gets better as you progress to better foods. If you haven't already done so, try warm, hot and frozen drinks. Warm worked for me. Try a little yogurt in your milk to thicken it a little if its on your plan. these will help with the spasms. I still take anti nausea meds 2 x a day. I have acid problems if I miss a dose -

I had mine on the 1st. Stayed one night and have been home since the night of the 2nd. Today is day 9 and I’m walking 1 mile 3 times a day and I’m feeling better each day. I also started puréed foods yesterday. Thankfully so far so good. Best of luck to the rest of my November friends 💜 -
Hi June folks, Im hanging in there. I think we all have are good days and bad days but I try to focus on the good and why I decided to do this. I think once we all make it closer to that 1 year mark things will become alot easier. I have my stalls as well and it use to get to me but now I just stay consistent, make adjustments from time to time and continue to work out. During those stalls I still notice a change in my clothes, so eventho i didnt loose weight or gained a few pounds clothes are still getting closer, its weird. For those having stalls for long periods of time try tracker your food, I stay away from Protein power and anything that says Keto. That made a difference for me. Hang in there guys.

I had my Bypass surgery on November 2nd, one week ago today. I’ve struggled some, been emotional, but mainly can’t stand protein drinks anymore. It’s all I can consume that is liquid/pureed. I was always a very picky eater, mostly because of the texture of food, so liquid/pureed foods are not going well for me. I have 7 more days of this and need some suggestions on what others are consuming post-surgery. Thanks! -
First, a bit of confusion - have you hit your goal weight from surgery, as in 190 or so, or just some pre-op weight target and surgery is still in front of you? If you're still pre-op, then that is a fairly typical starting regimen, and yes, you should take extra calcium and iron above whatever the multi has in it - you won't be getting much nutrition from food for a while so you need the extra. If you are months post op and at your ultimate goal weight, then by now your labs will be guiding you and your doc as to what is needed - with a sleeve, a lot on that list will probably not be needed long term and will go away.

Anyone gone to Blossom Bariatric (self-pay) in Las Vegas?

Mine was 100% private pay. My insurance would not cover it all. totally an exclusion. Blossom is available after surgery but only if you need them and reach out. I never really reached out or had any complications. I follow them on social media and read lots of people having questions, etc. I have to say, I think he follow-up could be better. My GP was very hesitant to just "take over" when I got back. Doctors don't want to be responsible for someone else's surgery. Makes sense. I also knew it would be discouraged from going out of state so I never disclosed or told GP office what I was doing. My point is when she would ask me questions about aftercare I would be like "uh I don't know" she would ask what about follow-up? I was like hmm, I guess there really isn't any. No binder, no regular calls or direct contact. Luckily, I didn't need it though. My GP said my case made her more interested in it and learn about the follow up and tests needed, etc. Also makes sense, if insurance covered it, I would likely have a bariatric team and all my tests and follow up would be with them. The actual recovery was really good and seamless for me. I followed all the directions in Vegas. I was prepared for the worse. I walked and woke up every few hours with my daughter's help. I never had to horrible gas pain people talk about. Plane ride was super awkward with the fancy leg pumps. 😜🤣 Once home, FLUIDS! Alex explained, you can live 10 days without food but not water/fluids. I was tired the first week. I just listened to my body. I moved around as much as possible, but didn't push myself either. I will be blunt about MY ONLY complication. CONSTIPATION is real! And it's awful! Never had this in my life. Quite the opposite. So my advice, always keep track so it does not get away from you. Use the stool softeners and fiber. After two years, I still have moments but I have a good routine to treat it. On the other hand, I have read people have the opposite, so listen to your body! I'm so excited for you and can't wait to hear how you do. What is your date again? -
Messed up preop diet

Do not worry, just start new tomorrow and follow the plan as per your doctor's instructions, you still have 12 days left so make the best out of them. Every doctor has a different preop program, I was allowed food from an specific list while others are not allowed anything other than liquid. -
HELP with Vitamins!

Hi Amber! My program requires similar vitamins (the only difference is, instead of B-1, they have us do a B-Complex). The explanation they gave me was that we'll need even more of quite a few vitamins after surgery, as we may not absorb certain ones (especially B-12) as well anymore. Vitamin D helps with healing, so it's good to have some extra (and deficiency is really common, especially in bariatric patients). The other reason for seemingly "doubling up" on some is that we're not getting any vitamins from "real food" immediately post-op, so they want to account for missing out on those when we're in the liquid & puree stages. Surgery Shaming Should Be A Thing…

I've told only my best friend and swore her to secrecy - pinky swear with it locked down 😋 and my family. No one else, its not their business especially as you've noticed ppl are judgemental and rude. I'd ask your friends how they'd feel if you said the same about any surgeries, Child birth, medications etc., they've had - after all human bodies have immune systems, given birth outside hospitals for thousands of years and can fight infections without antibiotics etc.. How dare they take the easy way out type of things. I'm a strong believer in putting situations on others plates in ways they can understand. These things ppl do for their health - no different than what you're doing. Also, mention that you're under the care of doctors who are more knowledgeable in your health and needs than they are, along with the pains of insurance companies who won't pay for "unnecessary" surgeries so apparently their belief is its necessary for your health! Would they question your need for insulin if you were diabetic?? Ppl amaze me with their judgement, I've had ppl tell me upon looking in my shopping cart that I shouldn't be eating/purchasing sweets/chips (that were for my husband) because I'd never get rid of my fat eating that, so, I proceeded to explain their food choices, nutrient in each, calorie content vs. Macros and processing of each along with were it was sourced and suggested they weren't as knowledgeable as they thought and perhaps they shouldn't throw stones in glass houses. Fat ppl are the last group where its socially acceptable to look down upon ppl for who and what they are 😔 and ppl feel they have the right to comment and that surgery is the "easy way out!" So I always take the self righteous judgement and throw it back in their laps.. (Sorry for my rant). In other words, make it personal to each person so they can understand you didn't question what they did for their health, why would they question yours!? Or, just ignore what they said and do what you need to for you. -
I was getting sick of the sweets like yogurt and protein shakes in my initial pureed stage, but I found a few more options once soft food came around. I actually like the Healthy Choice Lentil soup. Eggs were one of my favorites since there's a few ways to make it for variation. Typically one scrambled egg mixed with one tablespoon of cottage cheese so it's not as hard. Or just a soft boiled egg. Tuna packets were another. I would mix with cottage cheese and a tiny bit of light mayo. Adds more protein plus was smooth enough. And one recipe i was excited with since it made me feel like i was having a pasta dish/pizza taste was the Ricotta bake. https://bariatricbits.com/single-serve-baked-ricotta/

I've been taking notes from @Arabesque and got 4 oz containers to prep mini meals in once I can eat again! Things like meatballs are a great tip, they are definitely more tender than chicken breast! I've been thinking that poached chicken thighs might be good because poaching makes the texture so much more tender. I also found this recipe for keto chicken and dumplings and can tell you now I will be having that as soon as I hit soft foods. That is my ULTIMATE comfort food. LOL I know some also recommend deli meat because the texture is so soft and goes down easy. In our diet classes we've been encouraged to eat a lot of seafood on the soft food diet because the textures lend themselves well to it. I'm not a huge seafood fan but I've ordered some things to try when I get there. I'm still in the liquid phase right now. It is lasting forever...

I finally tried the bone broth, Pacific Foods organic and unsalted. Ick!! I ended up adding garlic powder, pepper, and Turmeric. The soup tasted better when I dunked my grilled cheese sandwich in it. lolol. This 'liquid diet' is going to be rough. -

I can understand your birthday sads. It is hard to change our routine around things, especially celebrations. Perhaps you can decide to do something fun that doesn't involve food for your birthday this weekend? It won't be the same but it'll allow you to connect with your loved ones and celebrate you. Like going to play a game, or having a spa day with your bestie, or getting your nails done now that surgery is over, or a stroll through the mall with your partner and buying a lovely smelling lotion to keep your skin happy post surgery? I'm trying hard to find ways that I can still connect with the ones I love, while having food NOT be the center of it. It is challenging!! Oh and congrats on your loss of 22 lbs!! I'm almost 1 week post op and have lost 3 lbs, I sure hope it speeds up soon but I'll take what I can get! LOL ETA: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! -

You got this! I have been to birthday parties and such that are full of food/drinks. It does suck to follow guidelines, but it gets easier! Before you know it you will be able to have some of the food in moderation! I am not looking forward to the holidays either, and I won't be making my treats this year. 3 months going strong, it is easier every day! -

Sward, I know the feeling. It is odd not feeling the anticipation/joy about food in certain situations (I had my birthday last month about 5 months out from my surgery), but you do get used to it. Not being able to look forward to a Brazilian Steakhouse (all you can eat meat), or a good mexican restaurant (where I would eat too many chips + salsa), etc is a negative, but reframing those moments in my mind has helped me a lot. I can focus on talking more with my friends, or trying new foods (I was a pretty picky eater before and have taken this opportunity to try out a lot of new stuff with the mindset of "If I don't like it, I won't have to eat too much of it :D") Stick with it for a while and you will start to look at this in a different light (although mine still hasn't gone away completely). -

I am 3 months PO from VSG. My surgeon and dietician were not on sync. Post OP instructions were different than what the dietician said. Make sure you clarify everything on your post op, ie timelines, restrictions. Break up with food! I was at the point of hating food before surgery, it helped with the post op. I am being pretty strict with what I eat so far. I still mainly eat protein, very few starches/carbs/veggies/fruits. FOMO (Fear of missing out) does suck at first. Head hunger for me was the worst for 2 weeks post op. Exercise is still my downfall, my arthritis is still wrecking my knees, but less and less as time goes on. Be prepared for constipation. Find out your Dietician's timeline if you drink coffee/alcohol. Every single one is different, they don't follow a guideline. Some are super strict and some are more relaxed. Find you protein drink you like, you will be drinking quite a few of them. I need to drink one everyday to make protein goals. Find out what medications you can take before/after surgery. If you need to change them get it done before surgery. I am allergic to tylenol, so I am still able to take NSAIDs (Ibup) when I need it at a lower dose than before. i had to give up my knee meds as they are nsaids. Also if you are on blood pressure meds you will need ones that aren't a diuretic. Get your supplements before surgery or right after, you will be taking them within a few weeks. Try and get chewable everything. Pills suck to swallow at first. -
I am officially 3 weeks post op and I’ve loss a total of 22 pounds so far. This was the first time that I’ve celebrated a birthday where I couldn’t drink or eat because I am still on the post op full liquid diet. I don’t know why I felt sad because today is my actual birthday Nov 6 and I can’t do anything for it cause like I said my birthday always was surrounded by food and drinks so today was very different….. Before all of this you try and prepare yourself for the different lifestyle but boy it’s something different when you start going through it……

For me it was normal, I was hungry after surgery, granted I did not feel the urge to eat since I was still swollen etc. I was told by my team that it could be head hunger or the stomach still adjusting the acids. The feeling dissipates once you start eating real food. I got used to an eating schedule that worked for me and now mainly feel hungry if its past the schedule or if I'm behind my fluids.

Mine started today. I think I overdid it with the food funerals last week, and now I feel like I'm starving, haha. I've heard the first 3-4 days are the worst, so hopefully you're over that hurdle now! I can't wait until I am.
