    Loose skin in 40’s

I lost about 75 pounds 10 years ago in my 40's and unfortunately did have loose skin I was a mess and I ultimately got a TT and breast lift. But that doesn't mean it will be the same in your case!!!

    Loose skin in 40’s

Well, I’m about your age and I’m getting close to finding out. I started off at 340 and I’m currently 217. I have about 50 lbs to go to goal. So far I don’t have any loose skin, so it was encouraging that I could lose over 100 lbs without that. In the end it’s always removable, or more likely I’ll just live with it. At this point in my life I don’t really care about swimsuits and flat stomachs.

    Loose skin in 40’s

Yea I have heard that we really start to lose skin elasticity at 40. The nurse practitioner said to use cocoa butter before AND after surgery and that will helP some if you are concerned as well.

    Loose skin in 40’s

When I was about 34-35 I lost about 100lbs and I didn't have any excess skin that I noticed. Of course, I still had more fat to go when I started gaining the weight back, so who knows?

    Loose skin in 40’s

Yea since I am lower BMI, the NP said I will not likely have enough excess skin to qualify for insurance to pay. I did lose most of my weight six years ago and had absolutely no excess skin but I was in my 30’s and lost it slower so I am just nervous about it. Obviously I already had surgery do whatever happens, happens but I am a worry wart.

    Loose skin in 40’s

I think a lot of it is totally variable, independent of age. Some people's skin will snap back into place and some people's won't. I've heard that it can depend on how long you've been obese. If it really bothers you, once you're totally sure your weight is stable you can have plastic surgery, but that is much harder surgery than the WLS in terms of pain during recovery. Sometimes insurance will pay for the abdominal or br***t surgery if you have infections from the rubbing, but you will need a lot of documentation and photos to get that, and it will depend on insurance, of course.
  7. I am five weeks post op and starting to dread the possibility of excess skin. Just wondering if any veterans out there can comment on excess skin in early forties?
  8. Hello everyone I am so happy to be here with people who understand VSG and to have the support. I was loosing weight great and then nothing. Has anyone had this happen. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. #1 I'm sure it's safe to have kids post- op, I would lose all the weight 1st and hold off on any skin surgeries. Your doc should have discussed this with you though #2 dont have any post op tips yet #3 who you tell, is your business, it's your surgery and your life #4 your social life doesnt need to fully change with kids, well I guess it depends on what u do socially lol...but new mom/dad friends, outdoor activities, theme parks, etc. Kids will keep u busy and active Good luck [emoji177] Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. i feel you! im out 3 years gained 20-25 pounds during covid.... i was so upset with myself as well... beyond upset! , so I called my surgeon and set up a meeting on zoom... I then explained myself. I know the carbs are what got me and less exercising during covid times. I was doing fine before that. So now I have been working really hard to lose the weight and get back on track the past 2 months and he wants me to do HIIT excessing 4-5 days a week. I have lost 10 so far but I was also put on phentramine to help but thats only short term ( 30 days to start) That seems to be helping me as well with my snacking. Just being honest here. Its so easy to get off track... I did and it scared me. I am feeling better but still need to loose a lot more in general . First i want to start with losing the weight I gained, then continue to work to my goal. Just call your doctor and keep your carbs low. I was told to stay under 50 carbs to maintain and under 30 carbs to lose. and to lose keep calories at 1200 a day. Now this is just what my doctors are telling me because they know I want to get this weight off aggressively. So call your surgeon and they will guide you and put you back on track. I felt exactly like you at first but now im feeling better not great but better than I was. I just want this weight gone! hope this helps.
  11. I don’t think it’s silly to do before having children. Having surgery while younger will obviously decrease your chance of comorbidities that occur with long term obesity but you will also have less excess skin having surgery at a younger age. You will have to be careful sticking to your new way of eating throughout pregnancy but that would probably be better for the baby than a bunch of processed junk anyways. Think about it, thin women get pregnant all the time and lose the weight afterwards relatively quick after. If you do a poll on this site most women will say their only regret about the surgery is not doing it sooner.
  12. Checking in to see how everyone else is doing....as for me...day of surgery I was at 222 and current weight 169. I feel great I’ve come such a long way. Now is when I’m excited! My weight continues to come Off kind of funky like it will stall for 2-3 wks even gain and then bang I loose somewhere around 4lbs I’m Ok with that. I’ve been getting nauseous in the morning so I’ve had to change up my routine a little trying to help that situation out. I continue to exercise Monday-Friday and stay active like riding bikes and walking on the weekend. My exercise is still very light as I’m still not eating consistently above 700 calories. I’ve had to incorporate a little more simple carbs into my diet seems I was just not getting enough and blood sugar dropped a couple of times in the past month. My hair lost seems to be on and off. My goal weight is 145lbs I’m so excited that it’s near! I’m struggling with water intake I can get a good 20oz in me but after mid day I seem to forget to drink! So what’s going on with everyone else?????? Eager to hear how your all doing :)
  13. Fresh Salmon is great for breakfast. I make it in two ways. 1. Simple ....bake or poach it. Brush it with olive oil, ( I use a little butter ). sprinkle w/mince fresh herbs: dill weed is my favorite but oregano, sweet marjoram, parsley, lemon juice, and season with a light touch of garlic/salt/pepper. Top it with poached egg dusted with Parmesan cheese. Add a side of asparagus sautéed quickly with olive oil and lemon juice, seasoned to your taste. 2. Salmon patties....Recipe: Poach fresh salmon filets and remove the thick skin. Flake the salmon into course bits. Mix with minced celery, sweet onion ( green shallots, diced sweet red pepper, opt.), Tablsp light mayonnaise (opt), herbs and seasoning. Mix with 1 or 2 eggs and drop a serving size on a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Bake in a 350 F oven until the patties are firm to touch and slightly toasted on top. Quantities will vary according to your taste and number of servings.

    Skin issues after RNY

Yes it was the same with my mom til she died at 86. I a ENT been to a gynecologist for many years, so unless it gets unbearable or something else shows up I don’t think I will be on HRT. I’m the baby in the family and I don’t believe my 2 older sisters are on them either. Hope it stays that way! Maybe the sun will help my skin, Today I go to the dentist for the second time since my surgery, and that has affected my teeth as well! I’m now officially falling apart! I may have bone loss in my jaw . My bite wing X-rays didn’t look good and all the sudden I have 5 areas that I have cavities in between my teeth! I haven’t had cavities for years!!! Last visit he gave me a script for strong fluoride toothpaste. So more meds! Can’t wait to find out if he can save my molars! Have a great day! Did you encounter any problems like that after your surgery?

    Flappy tummy

When you go for doctors appointments have them document how that extra skin affects your quality of life, or any rash you get...that's what you need for insurance to pay for a panniculectomy...then when the time comes...have it surgically removed. In the meantime, Spanx or any kind of compression garment can help keep it under control. Congratulations on your progress!

    Flappy tummy

Spanks would totally help- they compress the body. Be sure to use powder or antiperspirant between/ beneath skin folds to avoid rashes and discomfort. Grats on your weight loss!

    Flappy tummy

I’m 7 months out from my sleeve surgery. My lower tummy is really loose & has started flapping against my body any time I walk fast, jump, dance (like in my kitchen to my favorite music, not anything strenuous), etc. I’m getting really embarrassed at the slapping sound that’s happening now. I was looking into shape wear like Spanx but I didn’t know if that would help my situation. Can I get some advice? Thanks ladies! 😊

    Skin issues after RNY

Thank you for taking the time to let me know about the hair loss and the bumpy skin. I was told the hair would come back, but was just surprised how much it was!! The biotin is for when the new hair comes in and was told it will be a lot healthier with taking the biotin. We’ll see. The bumpy skin hormone thing makes sense. Even my face is breaking out some and I’m 69 and have been thru menopause for 19 years! But I know my mom had hot flashes into her 80’s so maybe that I’ll be like her cuz I’ve had more heat flashes recently as well. just knowing these symptoms are “normal” is enough to satisfy me. I’ve dealt with worse, and will probably deal with a lot more before my time is up. But I appreciate your explanation and your time! Thanks so much!

    OOTD

Thank you all! @GreenTealael, that dress looks slamming on you! @BayougirlMrsS and @ms.sss apparently I do I have long legs...they were just lost in the fat🙄🙄🙄 I had no idea 🤷‍♀️ @ms.sss until I get my veins fixed I absolutely refuse to wear miniskirts all the time. After that, we will talk. Lol! Also, I don’t think I am quite ready for the full skankification until after plastics when the extra flabby skin goes bye and I have boobs again. I am hoping for creation of a waist, but I will be satisfied with loss of the spare tire of loose skin and creation of perky boobs. I may never wear a bra again. Just you wait...skankified Wish coming your way. 😂😂

oooooooooohhhhhhhhh. You are built for super-modeling, or wearing a wonder woman costume. 1st pic: I am in love with those mules...I love shoes that are similar colour as one's skin...makes you look, yep, taller. lolololzzz. The dress is lovely on you, and your shoulders look a-may-zing. Appropriate to be the hottest girl at a dignified event where every one is holding their liquor well, lol. Now i feel that you could probably go 3 sizes smaller to get to skankified level (if that is a level you want to go, of course! lol. its not a place for everyone.) 2nd pic: Ok, now we see where the true source of your powers lie. Your legs. They look loooooooooong alright. I think maybe you should only wear miniskirts. All the time. 😍

    Skin issues after RNY

The hair loss is a very common & temporary side effect from the shock of the surgery & weight loss. Your natural hair loss cycle has been accelerated. It will stop - usually after about 3 months but some take longer. The hair you’re losing is already dead and would have been shed anyway. It’s just falling out more quickly. Supplements won’t change that - fertiliser can’t save a dead plant. Your new hair is growing but it’s growing at it’s usual rate. Losing hair or losing weight? I’ll take losing the weight everyday. As you’re losing weight a lot of hormones that were stored in your fat are being released into your body. The increase in oestrogen causes a few issues for we women. Many experience heavier, more frequent or more painful periods. My menopausal symptoms disappeared. The pimply bumps on your shoulders could be from the oestrogen surge too. It is temporary & once you’ve stopped losing weight it stops. Oh & too much vitamin B7 - biotin - can cause skin irritations. 10 000 mcg is what B7 deficient people are prescribed. If you are concerned, check with your medical team. Good luck.
  24. I had RNY in Nov. 2020. Not long after my shoulders started getting little bumps all over. Thought it was dry skin. It seemed to go away after a few weeks, but it’s back again only the bumps seem more like pimples , bigger now than the first time. And it’s all over my upper back. Anyone have trouble with that? I’m also losing ALOT of hair!!! I’m taking 10,000 units of Biotin, and understand that by the end of the year it should be growing back. But the pimply skin bugs me, is there anything I can do for it?

    Four-Butt

From one four-butt to another 🤣: I had a pretty good fat-girl butt, but now it is some muscle (I do weight train, run, walk, etc.) with folds of flabby skin. The folds get caught under my tailbone and are so uncomfortable. Underwear provides the four-butt look. I continue to work on muscle back there, but I am scheduled for a lower body lift at the end of May. I am hoping the extra skin and associated flab will be gone and he can find some fat to supplement whatever shape I will have left. I suspect time alone would help with the skin, but otherwise, exercise and plastic surgery are probably the only way to correct the issue. Good luck to your extra butt-ed self! 😬😊💕
