Today at my company's golf tourney, I broke the news to my best friend about Ty and me getting Lap-Band. ( We had been drinking most of the morning and she just got done telling me that the reason why we were best friends was because we were completely honest... how could I not tell her at the point?) She seems shocked at first. Then told me she didn't think that I needed, that I looked fine. I told her that I weigh more than people think I weigh and she asked how much, when I told her that I weighed 275 she was even more shocked. I've always known that I hold my weight evenly all over my body and that I am naturally a thick girl, but I know that I'm not at a healthy weight. She was very interested on how we came to this conclusion, and if I felt that I was doing it just because Ty was, and I'm not. After she had all the facts she was ok with everything. She's supportive of the things that I need in life, so it's going to be good I feel. In the seminar last week, the women that came up to talk about their success stories told us that you learn who your true friends are after Lap-Band. I told my friend this, and I can pretty much peg who is going to have a problem with me loosing weight, and it won't be her. She told me that she isn't my friend because I'm overweight, and she won't be my friend just because I'm skinny, she's my friend because she just is. That is comforting to know. Well, I need to head to bed, I just wanted to get that out on print before the week starts. I hope everyone has a productive week this week. Until next time. Shells P.S. Attached is me at the golf tourney today goofing around.... giving clear evidence on my I need Lap-Band... it's terrible.

Hi everyone, I am feeling discouraged about my weight loss and am feeling scared that I may be one of those who do not loose enough weight. I list easily in the 1s month. I lost 11 pounds since December 17 and that fluctuates daily. It can change 4-5 pounds a day. I have been pretty conservative around food so I don't think that is it. I have had one fill and am scheduled for another in 3 weeks. I have the smaller band and had a lot of trouble with the fills so I am wondering if it got in. The doctor said that I had some fiberous tissue that formed around the port and had trouble getting it in. The procedure was painful and took three needle sticks to get it in. I have been eating a lot of tuna and the only thing I am having trouble with is not drinking with my meals. I use to drink a lot pre-surgury and have cut it to 4 oz or so but I feel like everything gets caught in my throat. I also chew a lot so I wonder if I will have to be on liquids to loose all my weight. I was just release for exercise so maybe that will help. I have three little ones so I am not sitting around and I am also working full-time again so life so full and busy. I see a lot of people have lost a lot and I am just checking this all out. My partner had the RNY and lost so much quicker so I am just worried. Thanks in advance for any responses/information you have.

Not Everything In Western Washington has to do with Seattle

I'm from down Olympia way, got my sleeve surgery down at Madigan on JBLM. Got to loose the weight so my wife and I can enjoy our sailboat once again... That and travel around the country. The military sent us all over the world, to the point that we've been to more countries than states here in the good ole US of A, now is the time I choose to lose the weight and start a wonderful retirement. -
Haha I have thought the same!! There is an ex of mine that I would love to rub it in his face how good, I hope I look in a year!! I want to just walk into a bar and have him see me and think "DAMN"! I wouldn't say a word to him but I want him to think! I'm happily married now with a little one and wouldn't change that for the world but it'll still feel damn good to rub it in my ex's face when I loose all the weight!! Nope your not crazy at all!,

Ok, so I know most of us have questions, answers and issues about excess skin and the removal of it, so I'm going to ask a few and hope for some advice/info/suggestions. Let me start by telling you that my VSG was paid for by the state (Rhode Island) and Medicare., I had my surgery on April 18, 2016. I had been overweight/obese for too long, started gaining weight when I was 8/9 and am currently 43.., (being classified as obese for one day is too long), My doctor told me not long ago that having my apron removed would be covered by my insurance but nothing else would be, am not sure if they are incorrect about nothing else being covered but am definitely wondering if I were to save for it out of pocket, how much would it cost typically (I know that the cost vary state-to-state and doctor to doctor)to have my thighs and arms done. Am wondering what kind of expenses anyone may have had for such treatments/surgeries/removals and how everyone healed (big scars,no scars?), How everyone feels after the removal etc etc. Now, I'm still a few months away from talking to my doctors about Plastics but I'm trying to get some advice and info ahead of time so I know what I'm looking at down the line., Any and all advice would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and Congratulations on all of yoursuccesses! [emoji3][emoji256] anything worth doing is Never easy [emoji3]

Alternative Solutions?
CowgirlJane replied to natalie_christin's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
No cream or lotion shrinks your skin. Your own body, genetics, age, amount of weight lost etc all determine that. I do think that general good health, working out, building up muscle tone, drinking Water, getting good nutrtion help you get the very best results possible. Spanx and other shapewear really solve much of the how you look in form fitting clothes too. It is a myth that losing weight fast causes hanging skin. The extra skin came from obesity, it just becomes noticable as the weight comes off. -
Alternative Solutions?
muhsi1 replied to natalie_christin's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have looked at thermage. Google it and you tube it. I believe it is costly but for folks that do not want surgery or who have a lesser problem it would most likely help. I will do it when the time comes. The instrument cools the surface of the skin and then heats the lower layers. This causes the collagen to shrink, become thick and shorter strands, smoothing out the skin and lessening sag and wrinkles. You tube have some great videos on it. -
I'm not in the position to be able to have plastic surgery but I wanted to see if anybody happen to have any tips or tricks when it comes to caring for your body after surgery. I want to try to get the best elasticity out of my skin – I'm not as young as I used to be but I'm not that old either. 31 going on 32. Like different lotions and things like that but I just thought I would put it out there and see if anybody had any suggestions. So far, I've noticed wrinkling when he comes to my skin – where I've lost weight… I just thought maybe we could share ideas and while it may not get us to where we want to be completely, it could be a resource for those of us that can't afford plastic surgery.

Were you at goal when you had your TT?
PrtyAntOvrYt replied to sndycnrd's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have over 300 lbs to lose and my lower tummy excess skin was very heavy and causing me a lot of lower back pain. I am also very active and it interfered with my workouts. I had a TT and Brachioplasty done last December. Since that time I've lost another 50lbs and I have a lot of excess skin. This is not a problem because I knew when I opted for earlier surgery that it was just the first phase of many procedures. I did it to help with my mobility. I advise others IF they can wait to wait until you are at your final goal. IF you do have it done early you will end up with excess skin after you do get to your final goal and your results won't be as nice. I know it's tough to wait, but work really hard and then you will be rewarded with great results! -
A lot of questions about SKIN
Jadeskys replied to Shrinking_Shamrock's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Have you ladies found that where are your skin touches you get rashes? I have started to notice for example that under my breast where they touch my skin has started to get red and itchy also where I'm having sagging skin in the groin area is doing the same thing and I have to use a lot of baby powder. I am in the beginning of all this weight loss journey is this something I can expect to continue until I reach my goals and can have plastic surgery? -
Can't believe it's only been five days and I am twelve pounds lighter! The next pound I loose I will ve under 300 pounds, and I havent been under 300 lbs in at least ten years. I am thinking that I need to reavaluate my weight loss goals for the first month. I had originally planned to lose fifteen for the month. As I have already lost 12 pounds in 5 days. At this rate I will reach my weightloss goal of the month in a week. Now I am not complaining one little but, it's just I am shocked on how much weight has come off so fast! I would like to hear more about peoples first months of weight loss to get a better idea of realistic weight loss goals. Right now I am just cycling twice a day, and walking but am considering th 25k in 9 weeks program....any thoughts.

I was sleeved on July 30. I lost weight the first week and then got to a halt. I did not lose any weight and actually gained 3 pounds back at some point. After week 4( that is 3 weeks at the same weight) I got really upset and ate junk food and started loosing weight again. I am at week 5 now and seem to be back on track, but I also joined a gym, so that might have helped. I have been very depressed with the whole process. Now that I am moving to regular food my mood seems to be getting better.

hi susan did u get your band yet? I did on Oct. 2, 2006. I've lost about 9 - to 12 lbs. it changes I also have 50% evaporation and I just went for my 4th fill and I don't feel any restriction yet. On top of it all by no fault of Dr. Artuso the day after my banding I went to get the sip test before I was sent home, and the teck. didn't hold the table and I fell and to make a long story short this past Friday I just got my Shoulder operated on due to the fall. I hope that I start to loose weight soon! I'm getting discouraged. The earlier weight loss happened in the first week after banding. http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/faint.gif

X-man I had the sleeve on July 16. I've had no pain, no nausea from the surgery. I'm 69 and have diabetes. I was on insulin at 180units/day. I had 1 unit of insulin while I was in the hospital. I have not had ANY insulin since. I still take metformin same as before. The day I came home I called my endocrinologist to update him. That was Tuesday 7/17. On Friday I saw my primary and again the next week. My primary is keeping me under close supervision because they expect I will be needing meds reduced. Getting the sleeve is the best thing I could possibly due to improve my health. The worst thing about the process for me was having to grind up pills. Yuck! I bought a bottle of pill glide from pharmacy. It help a little. What really helped was taking the powdered pills in SF pudding. I'm down 75 pounds from my highest weight. While in surgery I had so much IV fluid that I gained 6# and kept that 6# for about 2 weeks. I was eating/drinking about 400 calories/day! That 6# was really getting under my skin! It finally left. Then I started dropping at least 1# a day. My friends tell me that they never saw me smile so much. And they keep telling me that. I have a new lease on life..

I agree with thinoneday. I keep seeing postings where people are only eating 600 cal a day. That is not enough!! I am eating around a 1000 cal, 60+ gms of protein, try to keep my carbs and fat low, usually I am about 30% for protein, carbs and fat on the graph my app shows. I'm working out, I am 5'6"not small boned or anything. I feel good, sore from the exercise, but I feel good. If I drop down below say 800 cal I get really tired! Have to take naps! And I'm loosing wt. about 1lb a week. It's not terribly fast, I get stalls, then drop a few lbs. Was down 2 lbs yesterday after 2 weeks. It works!

Getting sleeved this tuesday and scared I will never be able to eat again
VSG77 replied to lisahands_01's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are right Cydney... Everyone has a different experience. Your story gives us hope... I m pre-op. Scheduled for April16th. I was scheduled for March 24th, but I chickened out. I thought that I can do this by myself. I stayed on a very low calorie diet with no problem... I consume around 800 calories a day... Still did not loose weight.. I then get discouraged and start upping my calorie consumption. I guess the sleeve helps you to not get discouraged and continue the diet for a long time... I guess that's the difference. I am very worried about the complications though... I know what can happen with regards to complications, but I have decided to read only success stories to get me through this ???? -
Has anyone had a breast reduction after getting to goal weight?
Globetrotter replied to thehappycat's topic in The Gals' Room
I started out as a ... I think I was a 46G? And (after I lose a little regain here) I will be a 34 DD. The problem though is that although the volume is gone, the mass isn't. So I can pack and fold all of the empty boob skin into a smaller bra, but it's still there. Plus there is what used to be side bulges that are now empty but again, the skin remains. So yes, I would very much like to have a shaping done, Maybe concurrent with a total body contouring, wherein the fat taken from the rest of my body is purified and put into my newly reduced and shaped breasts. Once at goal I would like to be a 32 or 34 full C. -
I have pcos and dealt mostly with sebaceous cysts and blackheads. Between improved diet, hydration, bare minerals make up, avocado oil instead of cleanser and some seriously smelly drawing salve my skin is a whole new animal today.

I think my biggest area of concern will be my thighs and arms. My stomach isn't super big to begin with so even though I may have some, i don't think it will be enough to warrant surgery. I carry my weight pretty proportionatly but my thighs are an area of concern. While I've always been very muscular, there is that patch of fat in my inner thighs that stretched me out as a teen... oh and my hips... Watching the excess skin videos on YouTube have me a bit scared... lol

How did they put 4.2 cc in a 4 cc Band? I have a 4cc band as well and just had it filled to 3.25cc. I still think I could go tighter, but I was at 2 cc's for two years and gained 26lbs back, so I'm again on the road going south. I too, had to drive so far to see a doctor that would take me, its just crazy. NOW, I have a dr. that is literally only 10 minutes away. I hoping a praying this band will work for me. I only was down 13 lbs since banded in Nov. 2004. How much should I actually be able to eat? as in cups? I'm learning this all over, but I want to loose the weight soooo bad. Thanks Janine Naples, FL

Top heavey now and back is killing me, what to do?
Marimaru replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in Rants & Raves
You might consider a lift instead of a reduction. Usually you lose a cup size in just extra skin. I've been going back and forth between two options myself... -
Libby, I had a Vertical Gastric Sleeve 7 months ago today. I weighed 258 pounds prior to surgery, and today I weight 160 (and struggling to loose the last few pounds!). I love my sleeve. My cousin is a bariatric surgeon, and he was the one who convinced me to do the VSG instead of a Roux N Y procedure. He has had bariatric surgery, he had a Roux N Y about 10 years ago at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. After his surgery, he did a fellowship at Mayo Clinic and then started doing bariatric surgeries himself. He lost over 100 pounds and has maintained it very well. He was my inspiration to do something. I went to see him in consultation, and he convinced me that the VGS has far less complications than RNY, less problems like dumping syndrome that many with a RNY experience, no malabsorption problems, etc. So i went with the sleeve, and wouldn't trade it for anything. The day of surgery, I wore a size 26/28 top and 22 or 24 pant size. Today I am a size 8! (I love saying that, so I'll say it again "I wear a size 8." Gee that makes me feel good!) I don't have words to say how happy I am that I had my VGS. It is a non reversible procedure, so you need to be sure of your decision if you go with a VSG. When we crossed the boarder back into the United States (I had my surgery in Mexico) one of the gals riding in the van responded to the boarder guards question of "do you have anything to declare?" with "No, but I left my stomach in Tijuana!" So funny! No matter what you decide, Best of luck on your surgery!

Introduction - Question About Lp - Wife Note Thrilled
shelly513 replied to stevew's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
when i first told my significant other about getting surgery.. the first argument i got into with him he said that I was not woman enough to loose the weight one my own. I have come to the realization that "normal" people just dont get it. They dont understand the daily battles we go through. We need food to survive so its not like a crack head trying to find crack... its in our face everyday all day everywhere. I am doin this for me NOBODY else i dont i dont need ANYONES permission to take charg of my body. Think of it like that...
