I had bypass revision on Jan 11,21 which included a common chanel resection as well as making the original pouch smaller. I have lost 62 lbs and am doing amazingly well post op. No vomiting, nausea, or heartburn, I still have 3 weeks left of taking a daily prilosec but then I will be just on my bariatric vitamin and calcium chew. I was able to stop taking my only prescription medication for high blood pressure. I go to the gym about 4 times a week and my back pain has decreased significantly. My comfortable goal is to loose 40 more pounds but would love to loose 45 just to make sure. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm a pain weenie myself, but I didn't think it was all that bad. They gave me some prescription pain meds in the hospital for the first two days, but only tylenol after that, and I don't ever remember being in that bad of pain. The incisions are pretty small. You have some big internal incisions (depending on the procedure), but I think there's less pain sensors in there than in your skin. I actually had a 2nd surgery 3 months later - that one hurt like hell. It was a huge incision on my back, and the drain was incredibly painful.

Hi This is my first post. I am having gastric sleeve surgery on 5/18/21. I am reaching out to all who can give me any pointers. I would like to know which supplement work best for all of you? Also are any of you taking additional supplements for your hair and skin? I welcome anything you can think of since all of you have already started on this journey. Thank you in advance and keep going...each day gives us opportunities to achieve our goals. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello All, I’m new to this app... kinda sucks because I wish I would have been known about it lol. Well to the point I’m 31 years of age 5’5 and weighing in at 360lbs. I’m scheduled for surgery 5/15 and I must admit the closer it gets I have moments where I’m battling myself with the question “ IS THIS REALLY WHAT YOU WANT TO DO ERIKKA?” ... my backstory is that I haven’t been overweight all my life , I grew up physically fit in basic school & all the way thru HS. The trouble came after HS and after my first child birth... my weight has been a struggle since then! I’ve went to the gym ( ONCE IM COMMITTED , IM COMMITTED ) I’ve lost a significant amount of weight ONLY to gain it back ! 2 years ago I got up to 300 and I was like ohhh hell no , I made an effort to loose weight and I got down to 230 and gained it all back and EVEN MORE ! Putting me now up to 360 I decided that I no matter how succesful I am , it’s clear I need help FOR LONGTERM SUCCESS so I decided to have surgery .. but at times when seeing honest reviews about the aftermath people face leaves me wondering am I making the right decision.

I went through the whole process 2 years ago to get the gastric sleeve and literally backed out 2 weeks before my surgery date because I was nervous of the unknown and i also thought i could continue loosing weight by myself because I already lost a lot in the process of trying to get surgery. Eventually i started gaining and had a hard time getting control of my weight so this year I decided to go through the process again and wanted to back out again but went through with it and I've had no regrets since. Its definitely not easy but knowing i have this tool it'll be easier for me to control my weight and stay at a healthy weight and plus I already lost 25 pounds in 2 weeks so that makes me feel great too. You got this!!!

Need Suggestions for Returning to Work after Surgery
Tim C replied to Blueslily's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am trying to get as much protein in as I can early in the day so I add the whey protein to bump it up. I add the Collagen protein(another 10Gs) because collagen is amazingly good for your skin hair and nails. My wife mixes it in her morning coffee. Since I started taking it my heels do no crack anymore. It is good stuff in other words. -
No hunger vs hunger...When did this change for you?
ShoppGirl replied to Tim C's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am curious about this too. Being a slower loser part of me is glad hoping for less loose skin but another part is worried that the hunger will creep back in before I can reach goal and I won’t be able to. -
Didn’t think I’d ever get this far. My realistic goal was 240 (I’m 6’4” and always justified my fatness as “I’m just a big guy”) but when I hit that I thought 220 would be the bottom. Just hit 199 last week and I think I’m at goal now. Not sure how I can really get into maintenance, calculators are showing my calorie intake needed to maintain are waaaayyy above what I can take in. Short of switching to the m&ms and pop tart diet I think I’ll still keep losing which is now a little concerning. Went from barely squeezing into 44 pants to a loose 36, BMI is considered healthy. I feel great and I’m SOOOO close to being able to do literally the first pull-up of my life. Need to log in via laptop and change my username now :) sorry to gloat I just feel good and can’t get too excited at home because my wife has not been successful with gsv despite strictly adhering to the program and she’s bummed about it pretty hard (quite understandably so)

Why would you need this? It will not help with loose skin.

Hi. I had my gastric sleeve surgery awhile ago. I initially loss weight, then gained, then loss. In 2019, I really started to try to loose weight by changing my diet. My diet is a low-carb, no sugar, high protein diet. Pre surgery, I was 289 pounds. In 2019, I was 252 pounds. By mid-2020, I was 178 pounds. Since then, I haven’t lost any additional weight, but I haven’t gained any weight, either. At 178, I’m still a good 15 pounds overweight. My PCP told me not to be concerned, since I feel good and have lost a lot of weight. Has anyone plateaued above the ideal weight for their height? Have you been able to overcome the plateau to loose more weight? If so, how? Should I be satisfied with what I’ve lost and focus on maintaining my current weight? Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Renuvion / J Plasma Skin Tightening?
sillykitty replied to darcyjae's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have looked in to J-plasma quite a bit. You're right, it's rarely used on it's own, it's nearly always done along with lipo. I'm not sure why it's considered minimally invasive. It's as invasive, but not as traumatic as lipo Some surgeons swear by it, while others don't see any benefit, especially long term. Women online who have had it give mixed reviews as well. Some swear it helped, while others say their skin became lax again after an amount of time. Even those who believe it benefited them can't be sure what their results may have been like without J-plasma. Also, some surgeons don't like J-plasma because they say the tightening is actually caused by the creation of scar tissue and that scar tissue can interfere if you want future lipo or tummy tuck etc. I decided against doing any J-plasma myself. The cost was too high for unpredictable results. Surgical skin removal leaves scars and is a harder recovery, but the results are more certain, so that's what I have done and will continue to do. -
Body image issues worse after surgery
Highly.undermedicated replied to Lg111's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I totally understand. My HW was 325 (2/20/20). SW 311 (3/9/20) CW 195. I thought once I reach onederland, things would start to feel "normal". But they are far from it. I have to reach 180 before my plastics guy will schedule my panniculectomy. He's going to submit a breast reduction also. So fingers crossed it gets approved too. I had $ saved to get arms or TT or breasts (incase insurance doesnt cover) but my mom passed in october and well, family comes first. And the stimulus $ that did come, paid over due bills and rest to my Dad to help him with my mom's expenses. To make this already long story shortened, i cannot look at myself in a mirror. The sagging, hanging, wrinkling skin is horrible. I looked at my back and bottom with a mirror recently and omg, its worse than i imagined. I thought to myself, why did i look at that? ? My body image is so distorted more so now than when i was over 300 lbs. I refrain from wanting any type of physical contact because it makes me uncomfortable and i dont get dressed or undressed in front of anyone or a mirror. I dont even use a mirror to brush my hair! Its that bad. -
Dark Neck (did it go away after sleeve??)
Nanagrrl3 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The medical term is called Acanthosis nigricans. I’ve had it since I was a child. I’m dark skinned but it’s still very noticeable. I’ve lost 33 pounds since surgery 7 weeks ago. Does anyone who struggles with this have any success stories? Or what should I be doing now to make sure it goes away -
Yes, I've found this too! Semi retired and at home a lot during lockdown I've managed largely with very casual clothes and it doesn't really matter if things are a bit big on me. Some of the clothes I had from before I put on weight were not very flattering when I tried them again, so I bought some new things a couple of months ago - they're now getting loose. It's a nice problem to have but as I'm only a couple of pounds from my goal weight, I really can't wait to stabilise my weight and get into a maintenance mode. I've also been buying and selling some clothes on ebay which has worked well so far.

I've been reading a bit about non-surgical and minimally invasive skin-tightening options and I am coming across a procedure called Renuvion—which I guess is often done in conjunction with liposuction. Apparently, it stimulates skin from beneath to promote production of collagen. I'm wondering if any of you have heard of it or had it? I am basically to my goal and have been for about a year, but have some loose skin in my upper and lower abdomen and upper thighs. I'm not sure if it is worth going the entire LBL or TT route for... so was interested in all the options. I'd love to hear if any of you have heard of this.

Filling loose skin with muscle
JAKE H replied to newdani430's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started crossfit because it was a good mixture of cardio and weight training. It has workout out great for me. i have extra skin on my stomach still but my arms and lets barely have any after filling out, -
I'm so glad you asked this question. Loose skin isn't something I thought I'd worry about but now that surgery is moving closer... I'm in my 40s too. I've lost 60-80 pounds a few times in my 30s and I didn't end up with extra skin but did have some pretty bad stretch marks. Being older now, and much heavier, I worry about the apron belly and pancake boobies that will cause clothes to fit awkwardly and I don't want rashes and rubbing.

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
PolkSDA replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Being able to buy clothes "off the rack" rather than having to go to a DXL store. It's amazing the difference in cost. When I started the journey I had a 56-inch waist, which non-Big&Tall stores just don't stock. I've been reluctant to invest a whole lot of money in clothes as I've been losing weight, as ideally I will continue to lose sizes for a bit longer, so why pay for clothes I'll (hopefully) only wear for a couple months. It's like the reverse of being a kid/teenager, when Mom would get frustrated that I outgrew clothes yet again. However, at some point the old clothes start looking awful, like you're wearing a tent... not to mention heavy and uncomfortable AF. Being in a transition state with sizes and not wanting to spend money, I went to Wal-Mart and bought some $10.97 jeans... first time wearing jeans in over 30 years. Hard to wrap my brain around it... the jeans weren't unbearably uncomfortable. I was able to buy 44-inch waist and now several weeks later, they're already feeling a bit loose. My next shopping trip, it might be 42. They had a bunch of dress shirts on clearance that rang up at $2. The XL (down from 3XL) fit easily. At that price, who cares if they fall apart in a few washes. A whole new world: Being able to shop clothing sales and clearance. That hasn't been part of my life in many many decades. -
Tummy Tuck...coming soon to a tummy near you!
sillykitty replied to Jaelzion's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
My surgeon also told me my stomach may not be completely flat either. Said that yes, he can get rid of skin and some underlying fat, but he cant make my organs smaller! Lol And he was right. Yes, my abdomen has very little “overlay” tissue, but my lower abdomen (below the belly button) is definitely a little rounded. Its especially noticeable (to me) when I have a big meal. I can’t remember , did you have muscle repair?. (And I’ve seen your tummy, it’s pretty damn close to flat flat!) -

I’m so excited for you!! Congratulations and can wait to hear about your progress. I was just wondering myself if PS for hanging loose skin around the belly is deemed medically necessary for most people or if you have to have a chronic medical issue - eg rashes. I’ve got a ways to go before then. But thinking ahead since I don’t have any Bitcoin to trade ☹️ -
April surgeries
Just Jess77 replied to BigDreamer2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Literally joined here 30 seconds ago.. my surgery is 27th April UK. My 10 day liquid diet started yesterday.. I did not realise how much "water" I would loose so quick.. last night I went to toilet 3 times in half hour.. -
I know loose skin may be inevitable, so looking for ideas on how a workout routine may look after surgery to minimize it. 50% cardio, 50% weightlifting? What works for you?

I just had a tummy tuck, hernia repair and breast lift on Monday. I’m 64 years young. No regrets and I’m still very much in the healing process. Had Gastric sleeve 11 months ago and so glad I didn’t wait any longer for my plastics. I had a basketball size hernia sack that was removed as well as hernia repair with mesh and about 3-4 lbs of skin. It’s all worth it! Go for it at any age!

Another thing to keep in mind is that it may also depend on how much weight you lose, and what your final weight will be. I had my surgery when I was 45 yrs old. I started at 235. When I got to 170-ish, yeah it started to look a little less firm, but I still had some fat under there so it was still filled out. At 135-ish, I think this was probably when I hated it the most. I had less fat, but still enough to make the skin look folded over, like rolls (think: shar-pei). BUT THEN when I got to 120 and below, and the underlying fat was reduced enough that my skin just looked wrinkled/crepey so it didn't look as "flappy" (think: the skin that forms over cooled down warm milk...and it was basically just on my stomach around the belly button and my upper arms) The overall look was much, much better though IMO. Other details: I didn't put on any special lotions, I didn't take any skin enhancing supplements, but I did exercise pretty regularly (not sure if had any effect on the actual skin, but it probably had an effect on the underlying fat and muscle). I also got plastics (arm lift, breast lift, tummy tuck) over a year ago so that took care of that. LOL. My butt however, is still on the flappy side, but I can live with it (for now!).
