Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
kellym1220 replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was going to the beach and grabbed one of my Rip Skirts, that I bought 3-4 years ago, when I was about 30 pounds lighter then my heaviest...it was WAY too loose for my waist, but did rest comfortably on my hips. I should be able to have it adjusted (with more velcro) but it was WAY TOO BIG! And...I went to the beach and wore a bathing suit! -
Has anyone regretted getting the surgery?
CammyC replied to Roses436's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not regret my surgery at all!! I had my surgery on March 3, 2020. I weighed 230 on my surgery day and I weigh 140 now. I have very little saggy skin and I’m running now and doing yoga and it’s toning me up. I love my body and it’s helping me love the inner me. Good luck! -
Experience with letter of medical necessity?
mswillis5 replied to LizzLosingIt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations that you are in the final steps that your plan requires. I am going to attach a sample letter that my Surgeon gave me. My PCP followed this letter loosely but if you just have the doctor state some of this information and the comorbidities that they know you have and are treating, that should be all that the insurance is looking for. From my experience, if you have a good rapport with this doctor then they may be more willing to help with this letter. For my diet summary that I had to give to my insurance, I used my Allergist. She was certified in Obesity though as one of her additional certifications and had referred me to a dietician for help at that time. I also had 6 monthly visits with her when I was on a diet and so all of my weight loss at the time was documented with her. Good luck with this letter and everything will work out the way that it is supposed to. PCPLetter.pdf -
Plastic surgery pricing and insurance
kristieshannon replied to onmyway11's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I didn’t bother. My insurance required a year of documentation of failed treatment for infections under my hanging belly skin. Then they pay only for a panniculectomy (no muscle repair). I had a tummy tuck, arm lift, and breast lift/augmentation in Miami in January and paid $16,000. Prices vary wildly around the country. I would have paid $30,000-$40,000 for the same surgery in Seattle. -
Has anyone has any luck getting insurance to pay for (even partially) plastic surgery. I need a tummy tuck and a breast lift. I’ve lost 137lbs so it’s quite a bit of skin removal. I’ve gotten 2 quotes in the Boston area both for around 26k. Yikes! Does this seem high?

8 days Post-Op... Incisions are itching! HELP!
Soon2bFit21 replied to Susie Girl 75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It’s most likely a reaction to the adhesive they use for the steri strips. I had this as well and tried everything possible to help including antihistamines and topical benedryl. The best thing I found was using a kaolin clay mask for 10 mins and rinse off. It helps draw out the oils that caused the allergy and soothe the skin. Calamine lotion would help as well. Make sure all the strips are moved as well since they are just trapping the allergens. -
Yay or Nay: Weight loss before surgery for better success
ShoppGirl replied to Globetrecker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One “pro” for losing some before surgery is that you lose it slower so less loose skin from that weight. -
We all carry our weight in different places regardless of what we weigh. I’m still an hour glass & my friend is still pear shaped. Unfortunately we can’t do much to change that except through surgery. Liposuction maybe an option if it continues to bother you though you may end up with more loose skin. It sounds like you’ve been fortunate in regards to not having a lot of loose skin though. I was doing well until I lost the 10kg below my goal but I don’t have a lot - pinches not handfuls. 😁 I also found that in the months after I lost the weight, the remaining fat redistributed itself a bit. My face doesn’t look as gaunt & my butt, while still pretty flat & has a little more shape. So the body you have when you hit goal may be a little different a few months later. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

Yeah, strength training will only help so much as you can re-fill the skin with muscle. Unless you can create some muscle in the equivalent volume of your lost fat, you will most likely have flappiness up in there. P.S. Mine are pretty flappy, but mostly only noticeable when I'm wearing short shorts that squeeze everything out, lol.

I still have jiggly thighs. I've had a lot of plastic surgery but didn't do my thighs because they weren't too awful, and I'm in my 60s, so my days of wearing short skirts and short shorts are long past. But I might have considered it if I was younger. If you just have a little loose skin, strength training might really help, but if there's a lot of it, plastic surgery might be your only recourse.

I had RNY in 2019. I have lost 83 lbs. I walk daily and started ab workouts, yes while walking, to try to firm up my stomach. To me it does not look like I have a lot of loose skin on my stomach and it feels hard not soft. I look 6-7 months pregnant still. I do carry most of my weight in my stomach area. I am almost at my "goal" weight I have set for myself. Any ideas on how to get rid of my "baby"? TYIA

I'll be following as I already have extra skin at the very top, inner thighs and I hate it! I can only imagine it will get worse when I get the surgery. Mine looks like this top photo found on this page. I'm really thinking nothing but plastic surgery will fix it down the road, sadly. https://canberracosmeticsurgery.com.au/procedures/body-contouring/inner-thigh-lift/

Anyone for October 2020?
Coexister replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been stalled for a couple of months but have kind of fallen off the wagon as far as food choices and know what I need to do. Up my protein and lower my carbs. I do track my food, maintain minimum of 64 ozs of water and continue to at minimum walk 30 minutes daily. My weight goes up and down 3 lbs from 150 to 153 and my goal is 145. I think my excess skin probably weighs a few lbs. I am one of those that can eat anything and not dump. I don't feel much restriction and am jealous of those that do. I had more when I had the sleeve and so I have to be very, very careful. I am happy that I had the revision as it did successfully get rid of the GERD and heartburn. I did lose and am maintaining a lower weight than I had on the sleeve. With the sleeve I stalled and maintained around 170 whereas with the Roux en x bypass I am maintaining around 150 so I am grateful there. I keep thinking, I should go back to the liver diet and try and lose those last pounds that way? That maybe that would kick start my system? -
I am looking forward to getting off this CPAP machine!!
ChunkyCali replied to Tim C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got mine about a month ago after sleep study was required for my surgery. I have such a hard time getting to sleep, the mask irritates my skin, I feel like I can't breathe. I'm really hoping I can get rid of it after surgery and some weight loss as well. I did see that you are meant to take it to the hospital when you stay and I was hoping to just... not. I don't want to wear this in the hospital after surgery! -
Scared of losing weight
kristieshannon replied to APJPollett's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m down nearly 140 lbs. I was also afraid of loose skin, and boy did I have it. However, my only regret is that I didn’t do the surgery sooner. I’d take very flap of skin any day over the health complications I had from being overweight. I had a tummy tuck, arm lift, and breast lift/augmentation in January. It was more affordable than I thought, I found an amazing surgeon in Florida where PS is less costly than much of the country. -
This post hit home for me. I am very worried about loose and sagging skin. I had a love hate relationship with my body prior to surgery (only 3weeks out now). I spent the most of my 20s competing in women’s fitness and figure competitions and over exercising and strict dieting to keep my weight normal. By my late 20s, my body rebounded with a vengeance and 100 plus lbs came on. As much as I hated my weight, I still looked strong and somewhat in shape despite being 300lbs. Most people on the street would never guess I weighed that much. I chose the surgery not only for look but to feel better. So I try and look at it from that aspect as well. I was almost completely sedentary due to severe back, neck, knee and foot pain and even losing 29lbs so far has lessened that. I already have it in my head and a plan for plastics, but the scars worry me as well. I’ve seen some amazing before and afters on this forum and on social media, but I still get scared that I am not going to be one of those people who has a favorable result.

Educational / motivational educators?
1000islandgirl replied to Wahinebythesea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in Ontario and almost 6 months post op RNY. When working through the OHIP process for bariatric surgery there are a lot of resources provided including documentation on all the do's and don'ts etc. I believe that all of these surgeries covered by OHIP are funnelled through the Ontario Bariatric Centres of Excellence. This way they were able to achieve some level (using that loosely) of standardization. I would be very surprised if the clinic/surgeon you are going through doesn't have some sort of similar options to offer you. Sometimes advocating on your own behalf isn't easy but I personally think the surgery is the easy part. The rest is what's hard. I would like to send you a pm but I have never done that in here. I will give it a try. -
Scared of losing weight
WishMeSmaller replied to APJPollett's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Catwoman is right. Lots of factors go into amount and appearance of loose skin as you lose weight. Everyone is different. Here is my take: I have loose skin on my tummy, completely deflated boobs, the loose skin on my very toned thighs jiggles as I walk, and my butt🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ The loose skin on my butt causes me to feel like I am sitting on something lumpy all the time. The butt issue is really the only thing uncomfortable for me. The rest is cosmetic only. I am also the healthiest I have been in my life. I am no longer diabetic. My blood pressure is on the low side of normal and my cholesterol is perfect without any medications (I took meds for both, before). I no longer have sleep apnea. I am scheduled for plastic surgery at the end of May, but I would still be ecstatic with my new body, even if I could not have plastic surgery. My husband is very supportive and we laugh a lot about my loose skin. Other than true body-con clothing, you can’t see the loose skin in my clothes. I would rather have good health than the ability to wear body-con clothes. Check out my pics below. I lost 120 pounds-ish. I will say, at some phases during my weight loss process, I did have some pretty bad dysmorphia related to the lumps and bumps from loose skin, but it did get better. All the best to you as you lose weight. 😊 -
Thank you, catwoman7. That helped. You looked great, and your right you can't tell that you had any loose skin. Kind of eases my mind a little.

I guess I didn't really care - I just knew I didn't want to be fat anymore. I lost over 200 lbs, and this is what I looked like (I have since had plastic surgery - but this picture was taken BEFORE plastic surgery). For me (and many of us), the excess skin was easy to hide. I just wore 3/4 length (or longer) sleeves and slightly oversized, long-ish tops. Ta da! No more loose skin. Although you're right - you and your husband will know it's there, even if no one else does. I didn't like my loose skin, but on the other hand, I would have taken it any day of the week over being morbidly obese again. I don't know how old you are, how overweight you are, or how long you've been overweight, because all those play a role in how much loose skin you'll end up with. Some people really don't have all that much. I'm probably worst case scenario.

What was/is your greatest fear?
DoodlesMom replied to Smitty74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My fears are that I won't lose weight or that if I do, I'll regain a few years down the line. I also fear that extra/loose skin will cause rashes or just be uncomfortable. -
What was/is your greatest fear?
ShoppGirl replied to Smitty74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My greatest fear is that I will not be successful. Or that I will lose all the weight but as soon as the hunger hormones come back I will gain it all back. 2nd is that I will have a bunch of extra skin and hate my body. -
Body image issues worse after surgery
Changes4Life replied to Lg111's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I relate to this as well! I'm early 10 years out from my initial surgery and I still have issues with body image. Occasionally, I still feel the shock of being able to sit in a new type of seat or squeeze into a small space when needing to grab something. When I look at myself I still see the 320-pound girl that I once was. Eventually, I think plastic surgery may help those issues of what I see in the mirror, however, I have started working with a therapist as well. I hope that we all eventually can see and love who we are because it is so important to love who you are regardless of the weight or skin issues. Good luck on your journey!! -
Pre op liquid diet
NitroTrashPanda replied to sashayolanda's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is May 5. I have 7 days of liquid diet. I haven’t lost any weight but just started. I didn’t have to loose a certain amount before surgery as I am private pay and don’t have the insurance hoops to jump through. I am using premier protein clear -
I take the bariatric advantage chewable multivitamin with iron and their calcium citrate chews both twice a day and use cocoa butter and collagen peptides daily to help minimize excess skin.
