ejm, did you have a DS done? I have read that in rare circumstances low protein levels or excessive weight loss can cause the small intestinal portion of the DS to have to be reversed. Have you spoken to your surgeon about the extra weight loss? Have you had your vitamin levels checked lately to make sure you aren't deficient in anything? It might be worth an appointment with the surgeon to talk about your concerns... I wouldn't cut out fat so much as just make sure your fat is coming from a heart healthy source. DS patients have malabsorption of fats which is part of what leads to their better weight loss/maintenance outcomes. But some DS patients find they need to eat more fat or calories to maintain a healthy weight, and things like nuts and avocadoes can help with that. sweetsmith78, I'm sorry you felt scrutinized. I have generally found people on this site to be quite kind and helpful. It is hard to know what to say to someone experiencing excess weight loss when most of us here don't have that issue or anything even close to it. Which procedure did you have? Have you talked to your surgeon about the extreme weight loss? I would think focusing on calorie dense food might help. Full fat yogurt, milk, and cheese. Maybe adding MCT oil to your coffee? Protein shakes with peanut butter added, in fact, anything with nut butters added. And adding more nuts and avocadoes to your diet, as they are good sources of healthy fats. For most of us fat is where we start to gain calories back (or sugar, but I generally don't tell people to eat sugar LOL). I'm sorry you are losing so much weight, it must be very distressing after having surgery to treat the opposite issue! My sister sits in the 90s/100lb range and when under stress she really fights to keep her weight up. She hasn't had any surgery, she was just born that way. She uses meal replacement shakes and fats to help with that. Good luck to you both with finding answers and viable solutions to this!

Hello! Hope you are fine. I had a similar situation when I was cleaning my garden. It was necessary to constantly bend down or reach for the fruits on the tree. I love picking apples, but this activity has become exhausting for me. As mentioned earlier, grabbing something helps a lot to lift something from the floor. But when it comes to height, only a ladder or a stepladder can help there. My arms get tired too quickly when I use the picker. So I bought myself a reliable and comfortable ladder. Here is a good overview of ladders https://theladderguide.com/ You can choose the options and material you need for a durable ladder. Now picking apples and caring for my garden brings me pleasure.

Any April Surgery Dates?
Jim DiCristo replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope your stall was kick started. I had an awful September but the last 2 weeks I got back on track with getting in more protein and it has worked like a charm. I'm back on the protein shakes (once a day) to supplement my diet and get in around 100g of protein. I got off of the shakes for a couple of months because I got sick of them but I found some new flavors. -

Go to your name at the right of the page. Click on the down triangle. Choose Tickers from the options. That gives you the progress chart under your posts -
Just had my sleeve done yesterday, 10/9! I feel pretty good. Doc let me go home same day, so no hospital overnight. I felt much better at home than I did in the hospital. Am feeling pretty good. Had 4 ounces of protein shake this morning, have been sipping a lot of water. My mouth has been so so dry.

I actually found a protein pancake mix by aunt Jemima (can't remember what it's called now) but it tastes the closet to regular pancakes. I bought a new container of protein powder by premiere protein which has 30g of protein in it. I was thinking about putting some of that in oatmeal or cream of wheat instead of unflavored. It vanilla. Who knows, might actually taste good. How muchbof it do I put in it tho? I've been forcing myself to eat peanut butter sometimes, and yogurt still turns my stomach. I feel like im wasting food. I'll buy something, have it once and then not touch it again. Ugh

Full Liquid - Strained Soups

My go-to was low sodium vegetable broth, with added scoops of collagen protein. -
I agree. Go back to your basics & what you were doing just before you began maintenance. Meet your protein & fluid goals. Watch your portions & your carbs, sugar & fat. Record your intake at least for a while until you’re back on track or longer if you find it helpful. Get back in touch with your dietician & your therapist (as a support & to talk through any changes, social, emotional, etc. that may have led to old habits returning). You’ve got this.

ALLERGY! Is It the Protein Shake or the Biotin?
CarmenG posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hey, y'all, it's been a while. Back in May, one month before I had my revision from sleeve to bypass, I began using the Premier Protein shakes for my pre-op diet and taking bariatric vitamins (including a multivitamin, calcium, iron, and biotin). It started with a tiny, itchy hive on one side of my neck about the size of my thumbnail. It would go away, though, and I'd forget all about it. As the days went by, I would begin to get the itchies again. I noticed I'd get the hives on the other side of my neck now too. At this point, it looks like a ring around my neck. I read about the Premier Protein shakes being recalled, but that was a while ago. I spoke to my sister who's been an RN for 40+ years, and she thinks it's more likely to be the biotin rather than the shakes. I stopped taking both 2 days ago. The itchies have stopped, but I'm left with textured skin where the hives were. It almost looks like a healing burn. It's weird. I know I need to see a dermatologist about it, I just have to find one that will see me after work. I can't miss any more work. I'm wondering if any of you have had a similar situation with allergic reactions to either shakes or vitamins. I'd appreciate any information or knowledge that you have. TIA.- 6 replies

This last 50 pounds is the bane of my existence!!!
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm taking stock of everything I do, and don't do, every day to see what might need to be tweaked a bit. I already write what I eat everyday. I track my calories, carbs, protein, and fat. My doctor asked me if I wanted to try Metformin for a bit to see if that helps, and if it doesn't, I could try one of those weight loss shots. But I really don't want to do that. I know I can get my body to cooperate, I just have to figure it out. If I need the shot to lose the weight, my body will depend on it, and once I stop, the weight will come roaring back. I know there's a way to get this last 50 pounds off, I just have to figure it out. -
You know how to do this. Contact your team. What advise have you been given ? Mine is so simple. 1200 to 1500 cals Number 1, Protein 2. Vegetables and if you have room in your stomach, 3. Carbs Track your foods and drinks in a website, I use My fat secret or My fitness Pal Move more

Why don't I feel a restriction - 4 1/2 weeks post-op
RnTiff replied to MarTheTeacher's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was the same way, I just continued to be patient. Plus during the healing phase, you are eating “softer” foods that slide down easily. Now at almost 6 mos post op , I really feel it! ESP when I eat quality, low fat protein , which is what I focus on first at each meal. -

It's funny that you mentioned the sneezing because I was just sneezing and asked my husband, do you think I'm getting sick and then I read your post. Thank you for your detailed reply. This is so new to me and I'm definitely going to look back into the portion sizes. I just started soft foods this week and trying to get the water and proteins in. Just hoping it gets easier in time. -

Hi All, My surgery was on 9/28. I’m 27 years old and I am struggling mentally. I finished my first week of fluids and was not great with protein. My follow up is on 10/12 and I’m nervous. I’m 26 pounds down. I really am just trying to stay positive but I honestly just am regretting it because I’m not fully in control of my life right now. Can’t wait for 12/1 for real food. -
Anyone else do a VSG to ESG?
Miamigirl replied to teedsg's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I’m in the same boat and want to know the same thing. I’ve had a consultation for ESG and resleeve. Is SASI a resleeve? It’s been over a year and I’m not sure what the best option is. I had an endoscopy and my pouch did stretch. -

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I STILL HAVENT made a decision. I have the money to do the surgery, but now I have added 2 additional surgery options. Now, I can’t decide between 1. Bypass 2. ESG 3. GSRE - gastric sleeve revision surgery 4. SASI - single anstanomis ilietal surgery. I know I’m spelling it wrong. This one is supposed to make you lose 60+ lbs and is one stitch. -
Full Liquid - Strained Soups
Arabesque replied to jacquelynn22's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I ate a lot of cream soups. You can add some extra milk to thin them more so a little extra protein & fluid. Still sieved them carefully as they can have fine flakes of herbs, etc. that can sneak through the sieve. (Just thought maybe a muslin cloth would have been better than a sieve - too late for me now ha!) I really survived on soups because the shakes were disgusting. All the best with your surgery! -

That cheesecake @GreenTealael looks amazing. Yum! I round up the calories & down the protein. I also call fluids in soup, etc. & what I drink to swallow my meds bonus fluids & don’t count them either. Lol! My oven isn’t working properly. Waaah! Interestingly it worked fine on a Sunday then three days later after the electrical company turned off our power for 8 hrs it didn’t. Hhmmm?? The top element heats. The bottom element heats but turn on the fan & nothing, no heat. Have to go back to old school non fan baking or call the service team to come out. Gracious knows how much the call out alone will cost. Service call-outs have got ridiculously expensive. Are they crazy in the US too? -
That's what I do, plus I add about 8 oz of water to the shot. I take all my mornings meds and vitamins with the protein as well. It takes me forever to get it all in. If I take my medications too fast it upset my stomach. "She" is very temperamental in the morning.

I never felt great after breakfast either. For years I didn’t eat it then thought I ‘should’ as I usually missed lunch so I’d eat it around 6am because I started work early. But since my surgery, & not working anymore, I discovered I’m better having breakfast later in the morning - about 9am. If I have it before 8am it seems to just sit there, my tummy grumbles & gurgles more & I feel sort of blah. I find the things we discover about ourselves since the surgery so interesting. It seems the protein content in the shots is the whey protein content so 25g whey protein is 25g of complete protein you can count. They must not include the amount of collagen in the shots as it can’t be counted for our goals. Maybe just sip the shot for longer & more like a drink. It may be easier on your tummy in the morning & would lengthen the time frame in which you’re consuming the protein???

Westchester NY Hospital/Doctor Recommendation
PKM posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm a newcomer to this community, and I could really use your assistance. Can you kindly suggest a reputable hospital or a skilled doctor in Westchester, NY, who specializes in Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG)? I've been researching a bit and stumbled upon endoscopic suturing of the stomach as an option. Has anyone here undergone this procedure, and if so, would you be willing to share your experience and insights regarding its effectiveness? Your guidance and personal experiences would mean a lot to me. Thank you in advance! -

Already discouraged. I had bypass on 9/26/23 and even after 10 days of nothing but fluids and now on pureed and barely eating a teaspoon of each food allowed (LF cottage cheese, LF no sugar added yogurt, mashed potatoes) 3x/day and getting through my 4oz protein shake 3x day... I've only lost 7 pounds. I feel like I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what. Annoyed, and disappointed in myself. -
I knew about the collagen, that's why I added more whey to this drink. Between the protein shot, which is collagen and whey, and the whey I add it's a total of about 39g. The company won't give me the exact breakdown of its product, so i'm not 100% collagen vs. whey. I know there is at least 14g of whey that i add. I just want to make sure that what I drink for breakfast is all absorb. Otherwise, I will need to break it up. I don't like to actually eat breakfast, it messes with my stomach. All my meals contain protein 😉
