I had bypass surgery in June 2010... until March 2015 everything was well and I kept what I had lost. Since then I have been gaining weight and so far I have gained a little over half of what I first lost. Pleaseeeeee help me get down again, anyone has a good diet or something that can help me. Has anyone had the same problem?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sleeve to Bypass
Bryn910 replied to nomorefattypatty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. Not all foods that bother one will bother another. I had the revision 7 months ago and I am able to tolerate every food I have tried under the sun. Dairy bothers me sometimes but only straight milk. The revision for me was fine, no complications. I lost weight at a faster rate but now I have stalled for quite some weeks. But I am also working out more and weight lifting. -
Hi [emoji112] did you have the sleeve? I will be at a year next month and the same thing has happened to me. Only about 50 lbs lost. I feel like such a failure [emoji21] despite doing everything right. I go back to see my doctor because my nurse said sometimes a revision has to be done when the sleeve is not successful. I lost almost 50 lbs on my own prior to surgery. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi, I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Tatiana or Ty. I got a Lapband in June 2008 and lost 50lbs. But I could never get in that green zone and my band was always too loose or too tight and I got sick A LOT. I ended up gaining all my weight back plus some and started getting chest pain and nose bleeds from vomiting so much. After 4 years of struggling with the band I finally made that phone call that I hope will change my life forever. Right now I am 3 days away from getting my Lapband revised to a RNY gastric bypass and I'm not gonna lie, I'm terrified. I want to do this, I need to, but the risks scare me and permanency of it scares me as well. I'm taking something that's working perfectly fine and choosing rip it up. I just want to know that I'll still be me after surgery. That I won't feel like I've had my insides rearranged. I don't know, I just want to know if I'll feel "normal" after surgery. That's the scary part for me. All the changes in diet and excercise and vitamins I can handle, I feel like I've been there before but I've just got to amp it up this time around. From what I understand the pain will be worse this time, and recovery will be longer, but the success rate is greater. Anyway, just wanted to express my thoughts as I sit here trying to mentally and physically prepare myself for Tuesday. Thanks.

Have had surgery since 2006
tammyfrancis03@gmail.com posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hello, I have heard alot of comments on here, it just reminds me of when I first had the Gastric-Bypass done with the ring. It's been since October/2006 and I still eat the same, very little, I still vomit alot. I'm at a good weight right now, but not with the excessive skin. I still am not comfortable in my skin. Does anyone know of a place that does plastic surgery with easy low payment plans. I live in Arizona. Or is there a meeting place to chat about our experience with this surgery. Thanks for listening. Hi fellow UK sleevies! I'm having my sleeve surgery on April 24th in Leeds, I'm a revision patient as had a band which went horribly wrong after 18 months and I slowly gained the weight back as I was living abroad and couldn't get sleeve revision until I got back:( Looking forward to getting my sparkle back! Got some great chewable centrum from America off eBay so much cheaper than the bariatric chewables! So all set! Hope everyone is well, B x

Hi, and welcome! I'm not from Oregon, but have had gastric bypass in March 2019, and had hypertension, diabetes, type 2, arthritis in knees, generally felt lousy everywhere. Now, I'm off my diabetes meds and it's gone! Off my high blood pressure meds! Knees don't hurt, and generally feel great! Best decision I ever made health wise. I had a BMI of over 40, and now I'm in the "overweight" category, on my way to normal. Read everything you can, and ask questions. Good luck with your journey!

I'm getting my revision done the 1st week of October. I have confidence that I will lose, but once I'm at goal I'm scared I will regain and the whole thing will be pointless....this thought just keeps entering my mind and I can't shake it. I don't want to be a failure again like I was with my band...
-
I have not had this done, but from what I have read about the band, you did not fail at it, rather it failed you. I know people who have the band, and they can eat alot, to include sodas, I can only fit 1/8 to 1/3 cups of food in my belly. Good luck at the revision!

Hi! So you had the revision so that you wouldn't regain the 75 pounds? Did I understand that correctly? That's smart! Anyway, because you are already at a lower weight, you will lose slower. That seems to be pretty normal. As we get closer to our goal weight, the pounds come off slower. Ex: I was 100 pounds overweight. I lost 50 in a few months. Now i've slowed down to a pound a week. I'm ok with that because i am not gaining! W/o my sleeve i would be gaining by now. What is your goal weight?

O i was revised to the sleeve on monday the 27th. Thngs have been getting progressivly better with minor setbacks that have left me in the hospital until today, in fact i am going to digning my dc papers. I have been sooooo pleased with vcu health because they really put my health and safety in the forefront. I ahve a couple of issues that maybe some already sleeved can answer. I have been having pain in the center of my chest, kinda like heart pain. It is made worse when i take a deep breath. Thw doctors tested me for pulmonary embolism and heart condition and everything is perfect. I am chalking it up to gas pain but wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this. There is no leak as they have been testing. The fluid from my drain and the pain is reallyo not severe so i convinced the dr to let me go home. I can honestly say that my pain rating throughout my stay never went above 2 and thats because i was out of bed and moving within 10 hours of surgery. And had great pain control. I did have low blood sugar once and after taking so sips of juice it corrected itself. So i just got home and guess what i did....hopped on thw scale and low and behold i am 1 lb heavier than when i went in for surgery. Wtf...i wasnt expecting much but it has been 5 days since surgery and so surely i am not still retaning that much fluid.

You've had some great suggestions in this thread! We can always rely on excellent answers here. I agree with checking out medicaid in your state. You may be able to get some help. Also, my sweet friend MANDY GRAY just got gastric bypass paid for by the WLSFA.org! A beautiful woman--inside and out--and couldn't afford to get surgery on her own and didn't have insurance to cover it!! Please visit http://www.wlsfa.org they give grants to deserving people to have life-saving weight loss surgery! It's a wonderful organization full of some of the sweetest people out there! They have fundraisers to help pay for surgeries. It's WONDERFUL! I only wish there were more organizations out there like that! I think everyone who wants sleeve surgery or gastric bypass or whatever--should be able to get it! God bless you and big hugs.

Upper Stomach Swelling With A Band?
Threetimesacharm replied to freespirit63's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you should post this question on LBT. Having had a revision though I know that due to constant overeating yes your stomach above the band can swell or stretch; when you have the VSG you don't have the band so you will not have this portion to swell. -
289 Lbs To Go. Is It Even Possible?!
Threetimesacharm replied to makemyownluck's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You can do anything but.................why don't you want the RNY? Would it not be a better option for you? I would hate to see you have to go back in for a revision surgery to reach your goal. Discuss it with your surgeon, loved ones and do some more research. You want to be successful first time 'round. -
5 years out, dealing with regain and my iron has skyrocketed!
kylynne posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I'm currently 5 years out, I had gastric bypass roux en y, and it started out wonderful as far as weight loss goes. I've always been anemic but, over the last few months, I've started regaining weight like crazy and I can't figure out why! Also, a recent blood test is showing that my iron levels are through the roof! I so desperately want to figure this out, and somehow jumpstart my weight loss again, but nothing seems to be working. Someone, please help. I've never felt so hopeless in my life. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Adjustable gastric banding is much more effective long-term than a very low-calorie diet for people who are about 50 pounds overweight, a study shows. Medical guidelines support this surgical procedure — which puts a band around the top of stomach to create a feeling of fullness — in patients who are extremely obese, about 100 or more pounds over a healthy weight, or those who are almost as overweight and have serious medical conditions, such as type 2 diabetes. Researchers at Monash University Medical School in Melbourne, Australia, recruited 80 patients who were on average 52 pounds over a healthy weight. Half had the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band surgery. The other half followed a medical program that included a variety of strategies such as a very-low-calorie diet (500 calories a day) with liquid meal replacements, prescription weight-loss medication and behavioral therapies. Findings in today's Annals of Internal Medicine: • After six months, both the surgery patients and the low-calorie dieters lost an average of 14% of their starting weight. • After two years, the gastric band patients lost 22% of their starting weight. That was about 87% of their excess weight, or roughly 45 pounds. They also showed marked improvement in their health and quality of life. • At the end of two years, the dieters had regained much of their lost weight but were still 5.5% below their starting weight. They had lost 22% of their excess weight, or about 12 pounds. Researchers are still analyzing the weight-loss data. "I'm very happy that the gastric band patients are continuing to maintain their weight loss," says lead author Paul O'Brien, director of the university's Centre for Obesity Research and Education. Since the study, he received grants from INAMED Health, maker of the LAP-BAND System. In this study, the surgery was as safe as the diet program, but O'Brien notes the procedure does carry risks, and some may need follow-up procedures, such as readjusting the band position. The surgery costs $14,000 to $18,000 in the USA, he says. Insurance companies vary widely in coverage of gastric banding or gastric bypass, a more complex surgery that creates a much smaller stomach and rearranges the small intestine. Average cost: $26,000. Under certain conditions, Medicare covers both surgeries.

Comparing this to post-op Lap Band

My experience after revision was much much better than when I had lapband....but that could be because I was so happy to have the damn band out of my body! -
Eroded Band To Gastric Sleeve - Requires Six Month Program?
FXDF2008 replied to FXDF2008's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hear you Jasmine. I went nuts after my band was removed. It's amazing how quickly the weight comes back. Now I'm miserable and feel the way I did pre-band which is why I don't want to have to wait another six months. The company I work for is in the process of being bought out so there is a very real possibility that I may not be covered in six months. I have started the six month diet (earlier this month) but that puts me into June at the earliest to have my surgery. By then it will have been fifteen months that I will have been without some sort of Bariatric assistance. It just doesn't make sense why the insurance companies would make us do this after already having a band. Why are you revising to the sleeve? -

Help please, pregnant after mini gastric bypass
Born in Missouri replied to mmy's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Pregnancy and lactation were both incredible life-changing experiences that I treasure. I've given birth four times to four healthy children. Once you know you're pregnant, it's never too soon for your first prenatal visit. So much takes places during those early first weeks. Your vitamins sound fine, but this is really something for your obstetrician to confirm. Also, and don't be shy about asking, if s/he is knowledgeable about the special malabsorption issues associated with a bypass. You may need other medication prescribed for you during your pregnancy, so s/he'd need to know, for example, that extended-release medications no longer work for you. Azithromycin, a common antibiotic, is also out post-bypass. To make sure that you, and especially your baby, are properly nourished, be vigilant and be a strong self-advocate. Forgive my patronizing tone, but you know that what you do (or don't do) from now on, can affect that fragile precious life growing inside of you. NO PRESSURE, right? I should mention that I don't know the differences between a full gastric bypass and a mini-bypass, so I hesitate to say anymore ... other than GET THEE TO A BABY DOCTOR POSTHASTE! -
Hi I'm Yvette from Chicago I'm a single mom of a 9yr old and a 2 yr old. I had the Lapband in 2007 and had nothing but problems with it finally got it removed in 2013. My surgeon suggested I get gastric bypass, I couldn't agree more. I started the 6 month weight management program that I need to complete for insurance purposes Nov. 2013. I see my surgeon Feb. 25, 2014. So many emotions, thoughts and even things to do before the surgery!

Realize Band Research Study - 1 hr telephone interviews- $100
Myadele replied to janiam's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dear Nurse Mallory, I just joined this site in my last-ditch efforts to bring about some long-awaited positive results of my band that was put in summer of 2009. I assume this study was filled long ago, but if for any other reason for us to touch base, please email me privately at aamoury@mac.com or call me at 410/3960-2741. It breaks my heart and in some ways angers me that after all the work that's even Been done don, we have ended in failure. That is, unless there are some new techniques or even revision available since 2009. Thank you for your time and consideration. Myadele -
I know we are not supposed to drink carbonated drinks since it can add gas and fill up your stomach and might stretch it out (or at least it might stretch out the pouch on a gastric bypass - there seems to be a question about if it is possible to stretch out the sleeve very much). I was wondering if one of the reasons for obesity in the first place might be excessive consumption of carbonated (diet or regular) beverage? I mean the obesity epidemic is a fairly new phenomenon. And I'm not one of those people that got fat drinking my calories - I've drank diet soda since I was about 12 years old, however I had an extreme diet Coke addiction for many years. I was in the habit of downing as much as 3 liters of Diet Coke a day.
