  1. Hey I feel you! It is okay to feel frustrated. My clothes feel loose so I was surprised to discover I’ve “only” lost 15 since my surgery. Total of 25 pounds including the pre-op diet. I know I had a hopeful vision that my weight would just drop off, but that’s not what’s happening and I let myself feel the frustration. I will say that I’m going to switch things up next week and try paleo. It’s more in line with my values, so I’m looking forward to seeing how my body responds. It does mean giving up the protein shakes but I’m going to track protein and ensure I’m still getting enough. I already prepped a few things - including cabbage and bacon soup that is delicious! Bone broth is 10g protein per serving!
  2. I wore yoga pants and leggings that I hadn’t gotten rid of that were a size or two too big. I will warn you, though, 6 days after surgery I got a horrible rash on my side (not on the incisions but very near the incisions) - they think it might have been a reaction to the glue but it was MISERABLE. I thankfully had an old nike workout dress that was too big and I lived in that for probably 2-3 days as I had to be slathered in calamine lotion 3-4 times a day and I couldn’t stand anything touching my skin.

    Any March Surgeries?

I am glad to know I am not alone when it comes to fear of stretching. My diet allows for fruit and vegetables. I am on the soft stage right now, so fruit with no skin and veggies need to be cooked. I can have raw veggies at three months. I am required to have three meals a day with 1/2 a cup of fruits or vegetables and 2-3 oz of a protein. I though my program was strict compared to some, but it sounds like yours is stricter. I use a scale to measure most my meals when I am home. It makes it easier and helps when I meal prep. It’s quite crazy to have to wait to drink fluids. I live in Arizona and it’s hot already. So throughout the day I feel like I am constantly counting down until I can drink something.
  4. I am loving all the responses in this thread, it's inspiring! Over the last few weeks I've logged a few more NSVs: I can feel my hipbone - hello old friend! My wedding ring is getting loose. My tighter fitting shoes are feeling loose. And my new favorite NSV: I can walk up the hill near my house without dropping into 1st gear or needing to stop for a break! 😍

    Scared of losing weight

You are not alone. I felt the exact same way before I had my gastric bypass. Worried about loose skin and flabby arms. I actually felt a bit of comfort and security in my fluffiness. I'm only a month out from surgery but I envisioned myself getting a trainer and toning, strengthening, and building muscle (I have never been fit but always saw myself as that person). I think what helped me is the fact that I won't have the lower back/hip pain and other issues that stood in my way. Like you I don't know how I'll be able to afford plastic surgery but I have definitely made it a goal to save towards down the line. One of my friends told me you have to love and accept your body at every stage. I know the changes may be hard at first but with acceptance and patience, we'll get through it.
  6. I wore loose-fitting pajama pants in the hospital and had no issues with my incisions.

Pants vs. dress right after surgery

I wore loose cotton sweatpants. They hang below my belly button, so never touched my incisions.
  8. LoveSimcha

    Hospital Bag

This pretty much except I brought extra underwear - which I am glad I did because I had a bathroom issue right after surgery. The nurse told me that about 25% of patients have a loose bowel movement after surgery.

Pants vs. dress right after surgery

I wore pants and was fine - they were Yoga pants and were not that loose to be honest and i was still fine.
  10. I stopped wearing the faja at the end of March. I don't feel like I swell at all, so didn't seem like I needed it. Wow on losing 13 lbs since PS! I lost 4 lbs post op, but don't know how much my skin weighed. Now I want more PS! LOL!!!

    ChubRub's Plastic Surgery Thread

Looking awesome! Are you still wearing your faja or other compression? I quit about a month ago, didn’t seem to make any difference. Your TT scar is fading faster than mine, but even so I’m thrilled with my results. I’ve dropped 13 lbs post op (he said he took off 11 lbs of skin, so a true loss of just 2 lbs weight), don’t see any issues due to that.

So my “tiny jeans that didn’t fit pre surgery” are now too big lol. thankfully I have a **** ton of leggings that will hold me over because I won’t be buying clothes until my weight is more stabilized. I started off as a size 24 (those were getting tight) and my smaller jeans are some strange sizing so I don’t have an accurate measurement there. I DO know that I was wearing an XXXL in PJ pants and my mom just gave me some XL PJ pants that were too long for her and they totally fit me. So I went from a 3x to a XL in about five weeks. I still have another 65 pounds to loose. oh..... and I had some smaller bras floating around. My boobs have officially shrunk lol. Kinda knew that was a guarantee though.

I didn’t even try to get my insurance to pay. Their criteria is you need a year of documentation of failed treatment for skin infections/rashes before they’ll pay. I had none of that.

Body image issues worse after surgery

All the things you spoke of I worry about for when I get my surgery in a few weeks. I also get told how young I look despite turning 49 in a few weeks, etc. I REALLY worry about losing weight and looking old. I have a friend who had the surgery years ago and I kid you not, she looks about 30 years older and she's so frail and all skin and bones. I DO NOT want that for myself. The uncertainty of all of that happening has occupied my mind for months now. I always thought of myself as being attractive (and have had many men hit on me throughout my life.....esp when I was thinner). It was always my weight that has been an issue and my body that I felt was ugly. So yeah, I'm so afraid of this changing my facial appearance, shallow as it may be. And most definitely afraid of all the sagging skin and knowing that I most likely will not be able to afford skin removal surgery down the line. These issues sometimes make me second guess doing this but I do want to be healthier. But the unknown is most definitely the scary part of this surgery for me. Sigh

    Smoking wax/weed post surgery

You're very welcome. Just don't do edibles of any kind if it's post WLS. But if it's post skin removal, edibles are good to go. But listen to your body and take it easy. And if you do smoke, hold a pillow over your tummy in case you do need to cough...it helps. Just be gentle. THC and even delta 8 is a lot more effective than the opioids they prescribe. My surgeon gave me norco 5's post RNY. A week's worth. Was like taking tylenol. They did nothing for the pain. But herbal "meds" worked like a charm. Gotta 💘 mother nature.

    Smoking wax/weed post surgery

Congrats! Thats amazing I'm happy for you! I've been thinking about skin removal surgery for years! lol just gotta lose all the weight one and for all. I want to lose about 160lbs. If you don't mind me asking , was your skin surgery covered under insurance or did you pay out of pocket ? because i have a surgeon in mind, but would rather not pay out of pocket you know ?

Body image issues worse after surgery

It's so hard to NOT see myself as 325 lbs. Im at 191. I jave 11 more to go to get to plastic surgeon's goal. But I see all this hanging skin, sagging, crepey, wrinkly skin. My face has wrinkles and I look 10 years older when back when I was morbidly obese people thought I looked youthful or maybe they were just being nice. Because you know people always tell big girls "you have a pretty face" or "your eyes ate beautiful". Now I still hide my body just in smaller clothes. I still wear shorts daily but now I wear only shorts that have spandex liners that cover my wrinkled thighs or shirts covering my wrinkled, stretch mark, damaged skin on upper arms. The sizes have gone from 4x/26 to L/XL/12 but the feeling of people looking at me for all the wrong reasons has not gone away. I had started wearing tank tops out until someone made me feel self conscious about it. Now I just wear them indoors, at home. I don't look at myself in the mirror , they ate all gone or the 2 we have are turned around because I thought Id grab a hand mirror and check out my back and bottom and well it is doing exactly opposite what i thought it was doing and horrified me. So, no mirrors. No one sees me dress or undress. No one touches me. No sexual contact. No hugs. I have a major issue going on. I just hope my panniculectomy gets scheduled next month to help me feel better about something.

    Skin issues after RNY

While I know nothing about the skin issues I can comment be on the hair loss. Biotin 5000 daily is still my hair best friend a dozen years post op. Hair loss is common within the first six months post op as others have already explained. For me the hair loss slowed but never completely stopped. I take my vitamins religiously and have no nutritional deficiencies. Nonetheless, biotin is a must or the hair loss starts again. MSW

Awesome! Did you get skin removal surgery ? Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. I hadn't crossed my legs in years and found myself doing it without thinking! I can wrap my towel around me and tuck it in too! My shoes too big for my feet and my rings are falling off my fingers. Tying my shoes without help. No more rashes, cysts and chafing from the skin being rubbed together or too moist. Less sweating! I get cold now all the time when I sweat like a pig before!

    Gastric Sleeve 2021

I am wishing you all the best with everything. Sounds like things got pretty tough. Same with the pills, in the beginning they had to be crushed which was harder. Now I struggle to keep up with the vitamins. Some days I just forget. I too am loosing slowly, how do you deal with it? I know it’s normal but it can be discouraging.

    Gastric Sleeve 2021

Hi there, I had my surgery on 3/02/2021 along with the sleeve I had a hiatal hernia repair. In the hospital of course I had pain, the air was the most uncomfortable part of it all. I was sure to walk around my room as much as possible. Once I was home I was fine until like a week later I started to want the old foods I used to have and at this point I was on puréed foods. So pudding textures. It was harder mentally then I anticipated. I think I assumed I wouldn’t want those food anymore, not the case. I struggled with the scale not showing the numbers I though as well. My doctor said I was right on track, but I think we want things to move faster then they do. Eating wise during the first month and half was hard for me I got sick a lot with most foods and even water made me nauseous. This has all passed but at the time the doctor told me to change the temperature of my drinks and it helped. My biggest hurtle at the moment is my body is changing, even if the numbers aren’t showing it, you lose inches and my skin has changed.

    Gastric Sleeve 2021

I’m a sleep 3/11/2021! I, too, agree it was quite tough. I wasn’t able to take pills and my iron and potassium dropped slightly. I have a long complicated surgery, but I believe I am doing better. I am not doing the best at keeping up with what I’m taking in at the moment as I got off track with my vitamins being low and some fluid on my lungs. I feel fine, but really have to start back my routine to count! I am loosing slowly. Good luck. HW-256 Pre-Op-253 CW-229

    Plastic surgery pricing and insurance

Because of back and other physical issues, I got a referral from pain management. I also wrote a letter stating my weight loss, the crucial role exercise plays in maintenance & the way the excess skin impedes and adds to my physical limitations. They not only covered panniculectomy but the abdominoplasty as well! Best of luck
  25. So just a little history: I am 42, , 5’11 and spent a good 10 years of life competing in women’s bodybuilding and also did trail running and half marathons before injuries, peri menopause, and a car accident caused me to gain a lot of weight over a few years. My surgeon is insisting that my goal weight be 150-155 lbs. I have not weighed this even when I was bodybuilding and completely shredded with a full 6 pack. He even tried to get me to switch from VSG to bypass because he felt it would help me lose more weight. I started out at 339 pre surgery and am down to 308 at 4 weeks post. There is no way that I feel I could ever weigh 150lbs as I would be skin and bones! Has anyone had a higher goal weight being taller or having more muscle mass than an average person? Did your muscle mass help or hinder your progress with weight loss? I have my long term goal weight in my head as 199lbs and I’m being told that I would still be obese at this and it isn’t a good goal for me to have.
