Questions to Ask Before Surgery?
catwoman7 replied to SpartanMaker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it's sleeve - there are different bougie sizes. But I'm not sure if all surgeons ask for your preference. there is one revision to bypass where they can bypass more of the small intestine for some additional weight loss- but that doesn't seem to be a very common form of revision. For a virgin surgery, I don't know that anyone ever asks for your preference...or I should say, at least I've never heard of that. -
Questions to Ask Before Surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to SpartanMaker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ooh. I saw something about size a while back. Not sure if it was sleeve or bypass but people knew what size they got. I thought it was the bypass but I could convince myself to remember it both ways. Lol I just know I wish I had at least asked. I thought about it surgery day about making a joke with surgeon about it and asking for an extra tiny tummy but didn’t. Of course now I have to wonder if asking would have made a difference because my stomach seems to be larger than most. I know someone else that had the same surgeon like 6 months before me and she can eat alot less. Maybe it’s cause my anatomy was different. I guess I will never know. -

that doesn't really apply to bypass. I've never heard of people getting a choice in that. -
NEED HELP .... Vitamins and SEVERE GI Distress!
jojolynn73 replied to jojolynn73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do have some appointments coming up.. It is just so distressing. I've had to step down from teaching due to my ongoing health issues. I am only 49. I am single and only have my income and health insurance. I have a few doctor appointments this week and then another endoscopic ultrasound and biopsy in September. Instead of getting better after my bypass, I am getting worse. I am just tired.. -

I’m sorry I just realized you are getting bypass. I was sleeve. I guess you could ask about the length of your bypass. if you have a choice in that. -
Length of time on PPI or other antiacid
pintsizedmallrat replied to Tomo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am almost a year out and am still taking both omeprazole and Pepcid every day...the acid reflux comes back every time I stop, and considering that acid reflux literally almost killed me back in November...I'm not playing around with it. Even though I know the PPI isn't great for me, I'm still taking it (under my doctor's supervision). -
Severe Gerd and ulcers after gastric bypass
kcuster83 replied to CKmommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
YES! Man, GERD is the worse thing I have ever dealt with. 2 prescriptions and OTC antacids still had regular issues! Sometimes it was so bad my voice would be hoarse for days. I am soooo relieved that Bypass has since cured mine. Of all meds and no signs of it. WHEW -
VSG to RNY: please give me your stats
mrbshamrock replied to Heather0811's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello, I had the sleeve in 2019 - I weighed 255 day of surgery and got down to 195....after several months below 200 lbs I slowly regained until I had got back to my original weight prior to surgery, which was less than two years time. I am scheduled for gastric bypass in late September due to acid reflux, but also to revive my weight loss again. I am over fifty so I realize I will most likely to hit a stall or two....does anyone keep the weight off when they do a revision? Especially if they didnt have a lot to lose (ie less than one hundred pounds)? I am excited but also keeping cautious optimism for a long term success -
I had my surgery in Janaury 22 and I'm glad I did
omrhsn posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone! I've been a silent reader of these forums and have found a lot of answers and inspiration in here that helped me a lot along my weight loss journey. This is my first post and just wanted to first thank you for sharing your experiences and stories and to share mine as well. Hopefully this will inspire someone to take the decision. I had my surgery on 30 January 2022 and I'm glad I did. I'm going to be 40 in September and I've always been overweight. I've tried several diets, lost and gained a lot of weight. The last diet I've tried was Keto diet back in 2019. I was able to lose 25 Kg. Then Covid-19 came, the lockdowns and having to work from home. I gained all the weight back and some more 😥. Fast forward to January 2022. My sister (who is also overweight) was in Egypt on a business trip. She met one of her classmates in there who lost almost half of her weight and looked unrecognizable. My sister's friend recommended that she consult the same surgeon that did her mini gastric bypass surgery. After visiting that surgeon, my sister decided to have the surgery by mid January 2022. We talked about it and I discussed with the surgeon over Skype and made the arrangements to have mine by end of January 22. I had my surgery on 30 January 22 and stayed in the hospital for two days. I then flew back to Malaysia a week after. My starting weight was 149 Kg and my current is 103 Kg. I'm super happy with my decision and consider that to be my 40th birthday gift to myself. I feel and look amazing and I'm able to do a lot of the things that I've always wanted to do but couldn't because of my weight. I even got myself a mountain bike that I ride every night around my house. I hope I will be down to two-digits weight just in time for my 40th birthday! I'm planning to join a gym next month which will hopefully help with loose skin and speed up the weight loss. I've started a list of all of the things that I've always wanted to do but couldn't and I'm really excited to tick as items much as I can. -
I looked it up because I haven’t had my follow up and it was one of the questions I meant to ask. Now I’m not a medical expert and I don’t believe in being an internet doctor but it might help you. Here’s what I found. “Can you take pills after gastric bypass? Capsule, chewable and liquid medications can be taken immediately after surgery, but tablet medications need to be broken up or crushed for the first three months. This prevents medications from getting stuck in the digestive tract or not being fully absorbed.” I think if you think you can tolerate it than you can probably take it. I took a 500mg Tylenol tablet last night and didn’t have an issue. (And I did not crush it because it was late at night and I didn’t even think about).

NobiX - Minimally Invasive Alternative to Gastric Bypass
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I read this a couple weeks ago and forgot until now to post about it. It's supposed to mimic gastric bypass without rerouting the digestive tract. I'm not sure how to feel about this minimally invasive implantable device. I previously had a Lap Band and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I guess if it makes it past clinical trials and gets approved, we'll see how patients do and if this is another option to end obesity and diabetes. Just thought I would share this with the community. https://www.jpost.com/business-and-innovation/tech-and-start-ups/article-713944 -
Stall - revision sleeve to bypass
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to ocdennise's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
How much have you lost since your revision? Sometimes during stalls, we don't lose pounds, but we are losing inches. I think it also depends on how much weight you have to lose. The less you have to lose, the slower weight loss can be. And stalls can happen all along the weight loss journey. I think they're a normal part of the process. It's our bodies/metabolisms adapting to the changes our bodies are going through. I'm only 6 weeks post op Band to Bypass revision. But I seem to be a slower loser than those with virgin bypasses. My restriction is there, depending on what I eat. Of course I feel it more with denser proteins. Compared to my Band, the Bypass seems to feel completely natural, unlike my Band. When I was able to start exercising, and increased my calories a bit, I noticed the scale started moving better. I hope to be released tomorrow to be able to lift weights again, I know that will also help me more. Best Wishes! -

Stall - revision sleeve to bypass
ocdennise posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a sleeve revision to bypass in mid April. Weight was coming off and I could feel restriction although very different from sleeve. Fast forward to now (4 mos) and I’ve been stalled for a month & restriction seems nonexistent. I am aware restriction goes away after a period of time but did not expect this fast. Anyone gone through the same & can offer tips? Thanks -
I would get the clear protein waters and sugar free Popsicles and sugar free jello I liked the chicken soup and strained out the stuff out because you can taste the stuff in it. The clear liquid part of the diet is easier if you have a variety. I had the bypass last December I'm not sure how long you are on the clear diet is for the sleeve also maybe something to make ice or Popsicles with protein water Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

Who experienced heartburn or GERD after gastric sleeve?
LookingForward22 replied to 3catnight's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had sleeve and a hernia repair. I also had mild reflux symptoms since Nov 2020 that was being treated with meds 2x a day. I asked my surgeon why sleeve, since I had reflux prior - why not bypass. She felt my reflux, being relatively recent and mild, would be addressed by my hernia repair. She explained her reasons for suggesting sleeve over bypass for me, all which made sense with her explanation so I went with her recommendation. I’m less than 2 weeks out but so far I’m very happy with my decision. -
How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?
Jen-ny replied to LaLaLand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had gastric bypass but I was in a tremendous amount of pain at the hospital and I felt like it was barely controlled. I should’ve spoke up more but I’m quiet and I try not to bother people. 🤷🏻♀️ My dr eventually ordered me morphine and even that didn’t help. Idk what was going on! Anyhow, by day five I felt like I had turned the corner and felt much improved. -
Surgery tomorrow morning
SpartanMaker replied to valeriejbrock9's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This will be my 15th surgery I think? (Obviously not weight loss surgery, but lots and lots of other body parts have needed repair. 😁) It's super normal to be feeling anxious right now. I was worried about every one, and I'm not a worrier. Heck, I'm worried right now about my bypass and I still have 3 and a half weeks to go! -
Exploring Options for Sleeve to Bypass in Mexico
teedsg posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm thinking about doing this surgery in Mexico. However, I don't think my husband is going to go for this process. Our concerns are safety, post-op, and covid. I'm not even sure if this is the right move, but I'm just looking at all of my options. $16k for a sleeve to bypass is a bit much for me to pay out of pocket in the states. So, for me the main driver is cost. My other option is to do the VSG to ESG which costs $11,995 in GA. I guess you can say cost is my driving factor right now because I really want to get this done. I need a second chance. By the way, I never been to Mexico, I don't have a passport (I'm probably the only adult who doesn't have one LOL), I never had covid, I'm vaccinated and boosted. Any help is appreciated. -
I was so terrified of transfer addiction (my sister had gastric bypass about 20yrs ago and then turned to alcohol, she’s now 6yrs sober🙏) and just the mental aspect of the life changing journey! So I got established with a therapist prior to surgery day and I’m so glad I did, I feel it’s really made a difference for me!

Bariatric Cook Book?
Sarah.C replied to simplysmile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got “The Gastric Sleeve” cookbook on Amazon. I actually had a bypass but it works for both surgeries. I wouldn’t say I LOVE it but it gave me a lot of different ideas about stuff I could have at different stages. I felt like I kept seeing the same recipes over and over again online. -
20 moths out and I think Im in maintenance ?
Betty1971 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello everyone! I am 20 months post VSG and for the most part I would say its been successful! I was able to donate a kidney to my daughter in January and she is doing GREAT! My hubby is 3 months post VSG and absolutely killing it! I am very happy for the most part. I have changed my goal weight a couple times and really wanted to get at a 125 or 130 but my body is just holding on to the last 10 pounds! I have tried all the tricks to get things rolling, upping my calories a tad, more exercise, less exercise and even did a three day protein shake restriction just to see if that would bump me out of this. I have a tummy tuck with muscle repair scheduled in November. My team told me this is just where my body is comfortable, he called it my new set point. Has anyone been able to knock off that last few pounds without a super crazy calorie deficit. Now that I only have the one kidney I am very aware of what goes in and out of my body and I don't want to do it any harm. I am keeping my protein at 100 grams per the nephrologist and nutritionists request and my calories run about 1300 a day. The math tells me I should still be in loss mode, but clearly I am not. I also keep telling myself that I am no longer overweight and I do not need to hyper focus on that damn scale!!!! BUT watching my hubby drop so many pounds makes me really really want that end goal! Anyway they set me up for my tummy tuck (flur de les with muscle repair) for November and I am excited for that :)
