Most bariatric surgeons discourage getting pregnant right away. Most want you to wait 18 months. They want to get your body used to your RNY. You are going to have malabsorption issues and being pregnant requires more calories so the baby is getting proper nutrition. I'm not big on skyla because a friend of mine had nothing but trouble with hers and she had it emergently removed. The depoprovera shot is a good alternative. If you are having bad cramps and abnormal bleeding you could have endometriosis. BC helps that too. As I had it myself. I'm not a doctor by any means and you should talk to your obgyn for proper information and treatment. Good luck and take care. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

DO YOU THINK BC IS NEEDED AFTER RNY... asking because my period seems to be coming on it's on but it's so painful I'm literally just trying to figure out where to go from here...my obgyn suggested Skyla however I feel like these cramps are too much as is on my body like now I'm just feeling like I have to throw up but everything is clear

Just had surgery and I have highmark BS here in PA. Finished the 6 mo nutrition classes and psych eval plus other clearances. I was worried cause bmi was 38 and my other health issues were all borderline with little treatment or medications to date but it was approved in 3 days and I had surgery last week! One hospital said I wouldn't get approved and I went through another hospitals weight loss center last august and now I'm post op!

12 days post op. Incision looks funky
kristamae24 replied to kristamae24's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I did !!! The doctor said it was not infected. I had some drainage that had created a pocket underneath the incision which was basically preventing it from healing like it should. You could actually feel the pocket of fluid. So weird. He drained some of the fluid. And said to of course watch for any signs of infection. But it should begin to heal and it is i believe. It finally has scabbed over some. I am afraid to get it wet in the shower tho bc the scab might fall off. So I am not sure what to do about that part. It's always something I guess ! I attached the pic of how it looks now. -
Sleeve 4.27 Staples and itching, gas bloating
Kiwi_N_Rio replied to princessK23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 days post op and a few of my incisions itch. They are just healing. Its hard to not scratch them, but I don't want to scratch the glue off. I don't really have any bloating or gas, probably bc I am passing gas more than I ever did before this surgery. Sent from my VS995 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Moving along
starfishwish replied to momof2littleones's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wear mine every night. My dr cracks up when I go for follow ups bc my data shows 100% compliance, and he says nobody has 100% [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] He also said that based on that, he knows I'll do well complying with my weight loss surgery guidelines -
I told my boss and four direct colleagues. I've lost about 45 pounds and it's interesting that they never mention it. Don't compliment me or ask questions. I don't think they're talking about me behind my back. I think they just have good boundaries. I work in HR and have over 200 employees that I work with. I haven't told any of them bc that seems like TMI.

So I got an approval letter from Anthem BC/BS yesterday and it had an approved date of 6/30/17. Does that mean they scheduled my surgery for that date? I go on 5/23 to schedule but maybe they already scheduled it?

I completed psych and 6m of nutrition appts. Today I met with my surgeons PA and will submit to insurance sometime next week. Insurance will take 3-14 days to approve. Looking to schedule surgery end of may, but I may need to postpone it until end of July (due to my school schedule and vacations). I'm so stressed and excited. Possible sx date of 5/23, but I'm going to Mexico (all inclusive) 6/30. So I'm looking to stall until I finish nursing school in July. So much to think about! I'm also worried they may not approve me bc I never wear my cpap. Sleep apnea is my qualifying comorbidity.

Clear Liquid Blues
PatientEleventyBillion replied to NightPilgrim's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would pester whoever clears you for your diets about why you can't be on full fluids. I was on clear fluids for an hour or two before being cleared for full fluids. While no one here can know any medical reasons for your circumstance, if you were discharged I assume you have no issues with vomiting, and you've been checked for leaks.. I personally wouldn't understand why you can't have full fluids. My OR date was last Thursday (April 20) in the morning Leak tests/barium swallow done Friday morning, confirmed all fine Started clear fluids Friday afternoon, cleared for full fluid meal for dinner (soup, Jello, non-SF popsicles), ate that with no issues, was discharged a couple hours later Friday evening on full fluid diet until around May 11th when I can have soft solids. Current diet is mainly water (1.5-3L), 2% milk, high protein M&BS oatmeal, unsweetened applesauce, YOP yogurt drink, and was just cleared via phone call from my case manager to make fruit smoothies. -
Lurker finally asking questions: Who did you tell?
1Day1Life4Now replied to Aijan's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am a very private person so I didn't choose to share with anybody except my husband and daughter and I asked them not to share with anybody. Unfortunately they have overshared with multiple people against my wishes. My husband was against the surgery and I'd been researching it for a number of years. I let him talk me out of it several times. I finally got fed up and decided I was having the surgery, regardless of his feelings. Its been wonderful and just wish I had done it sooner. When people notice you have lost weight they want to ask you questions about how you did it and what you eat etc.... The continuous comments about my weight really bother me because my life is so much more that my weight loss. Anyway, it's always your choice and your business about how you go about your weight loss. Share if you want to but if you dont want to....then keep it your little secret. I just didn't want to be judged or have people make comments if I cheat or if I'm not eating something. Life and weight loss is already difficult enough, I don't need them "weighing in" on my business. -
HELP! Please Review my food logs and exercise I need help figuring out what I'm doing wrong!
Smithsleeved replied to Smithsleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for the suggestions BigViffer they all sound good! I do wear my fib bit every day as well and the machine monitors my heart as well and usually puts it about 130 during my work outs so I will scrutinize it to see if my Fitbit agrees. As far as salt it is possible that is an issue I am on lithium as well which can cause water retention. But since starting the medication I have notice no real changes lucky for me my blood pressure is usually quite low so I don't have to worry about that so much. I find I just can't relate to other weight loss patients though bc my weight loss was better pre op than post talk about worst nightmares realized! Lol -
VERY FRUSTRATED WITH SURGEONS OFFICE
ColleenErin1974 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been done with my pre-evaluation appointments and testing since 2/23/17. I have been calling the office about 2 times a week to see what is going on. It took most of March to just get my surgeon to look at everything and medically clear me. Once that was done, I was told that now all this is to go to my insurance company for approval (that was 4/4/17). I was not contacted about this, and after a week I called the office, spoke to the manager, and was told that everything is at my insurance and I just have to wait. Ok, after another week I called and was told my case is pending. Again, I wait. I do this 2-3 more times and keep getting told its pending. Today, 4/27/17, I call again with no response. Now, I call my insurance to see what I should do. I talk to insurance company. She says that there is nothing about prior approval in my case and we start investigating! According to my insurance, I do NOT need approval for WLS with my policy. OMG! SMH. Now, I ask them what is my Doctor waiting for? She asks for my surgeons number and who I've been in contact with there. I give her the info, she puts me on hold, and she contacts them. About 25 minutes later, she comes back to me and says that the manager has given my info to the surgeon for him to get me a surgical date. WHAT???? My insurance lady than asks why have they been lying to me saying I'm not approved for surgery yet, when I did not require approval in the first place! The manager tells her that someone else messed this up, not her and she would make sure it is taken care of. So, now I know this office has been just placating me with a bunch of BS! I put a call into the manager myself and as of now, no call back yet! I'm beyond pissed off here. I've done everything I have had to do since 11/16 and I've been ignored for what reason? Tomorrow, bright and early I will call the manager again and if no response, I drive for an hour to the surgeon and don't leave until she talks to me. OMG! Has anyone else had anything like this happen??? Ugh! Any info would be appreciated! -
I haven't heard that all women of CB age need to be on BC prior and post surgery - I'm not on birth control, am 32, and was never told I needed to be. I've completed all preop requirements and will call today to discuss submitting docs to insurance and scheduling surgery. I would hope I would have been told by now about needing to be on BC! Maybe it's just a norm for most but not all. HW: 328 (02/22/17) SW: TBD CW: 288 Pounds disowned to date: 40

just wanted to let you all know of my experience. my BMI is between 35 and 40, and my program was concerned that I may not be approved by Blue Cross Blue Shield with just hypertension. Therefore part of my program included being evaluated for other conditions. It turned out that I have both fatty liver and severe sleep apnea. while I am not thrilled to know that my obesity has led to all of these conditions, it does help my cause for getting surgery approved. I completed my program last week and my packet was submitted to Blue Cross Blue Shield late last week. I called customer service at Blue Cross Blue Shield a couple of times just to check and I found out early this week that they had approved my surgery within three hours of submission of my packet! I found out before the bariatric surgery office could let me know. good luck to you all.

Hello! Just Bc I'm new at all of this, can I ask any diagnosis' you had that may have held it off? -
How long after VSG were you able to bend over and pick something off the floor without pain? I have a special needs dog and debating sending her to the dog sitter. I don't want to send her bc then I will be worried about her & its an extra expense. But, I also don't want to add the burden on my caregiver. Thanks!

Getting sleeved with a baby
teacupnosaucer replied to nennas_mommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I breastfed one child until two years old (and I only weaned because I was forced to due to medical reasons) and the other was using formula by two months old... So I've been in both positions. I don't think it's a matter of "just wean LOL" because I know how special breastfeeding can be, but I also don't think it's a matter of "breastfeeding should take priority over everything ever." Some mothers prioritize breastfeeding in their lives and others do not. There's nothing wrong with either mom or either choice as long as baby is fed and mom feels comfortable with her decision. I definitely think that if you're going to regret stopping nursing early, or if stopping nursing is going to cause hardship in your home, then delay the surgery until you ARE comfortable weaning, whenever that may be. Breastfeeding aside, though, I would STILL recommend postponing the surgery for any mom of a baby under one. I just think trying to care for an infant while recovering from a major surgery such as this one sounds like gruelling punishment for everyone involved. For those pre-ops saying "moms care for babies after c-sections though" I'd like to note that there are many c-section veterans who went into bariatric surgery thinking it would be the same or no worse than their c-section and discovered the opposite. Not saying caring for a newborn after a c-section is any easy feat (C-section moms are warriors!) but this surgery knocks you out HARD... Even if you don't have any complications, you're barely getting any calories for energy, you're on some heavy duty painkillers, and you have to put a lot of mental effort and time into making sure you're eating and drinking enough. I just can't imagine doing that when you're also caring for a baby around the clock. You're practically a newborn yourself sipping soup every two hours and struggling to poop LOL. So yeah... unless you've got a seriously urgent or compelling reason to have this surgery right away, (your insurance is running out, if you reject this date you won't get another one for five years, etc...) I'd wait until baby is a little older. But at the very least, be realistic and know that breastfeeding likely isn't going to happen post-op and that you're going to need way more support for yourself and that baby than you probably realize now. Your surgeon should know you're breastfeeding, as well. That's important medical info! -
I'm curious if anyone is planning to use Gatorade G2 during post-op liquids. I see a lot of people on YouTube including it in liquid grocery hauls, but the stats on the kind I bought show too much sugar for my guidelines: 12 grams of carb, all sugar. 5 is my max. I got a little nervous bc my nutritionist said I could drink it and when I asked what about the sugar, she said there's no sugar in it. Is there a different type I should be looking for? My plan is to not drink it but use Vitaminwater Zero instead when I want some non-plain-water flavor.
