Oh No! I hope you get all that worked out. I hate to hear you have had complications. Do you have medical issues that would complicate the procedure? Here's wishing they get that fixed soon
-
Thank you I have alot of medical issues, not sure if they will cause other complications..I have to just take it one step at a time and trust my doctor. I will have an EGD and they will decide from that where I need to go from there.

Hi, sorry you are having problems. I haven't experienced what you are, but I just wanted to tell you that I hope things get better soon. PS - you would probably get a better response if you posted this in the complications forum.

What's "Typical" in this New Atypical Life?
orionburn replied to Taylor5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know it's hard to resist counting calories, but honestly in the early days don't stress about it. I did my journals to track protein as usual. First couple of weeks I was probably around 600 a day. That's all I could manage. Mainly stuck to yogurts, protein shakes, and the early soft foods allowed on my plan. If you're info is accurate it looks like you're only about a week out from sugery? Seriously that's way to early to be stressing about the weight coming off. Getting healed up is priority #1. The weight will come off. Your body has been through a helluva a lot so be patient with it. You're also at a bit lower weight than a lot of others. It's just the nature of the beast. It always seems that weight comes off quicker in the beginning for those that weigh more. Focus on the basics right now. Don't think of your walks as exercise to lose weight. It's to get you up and moving and help the healing process. You got all the time in the world coming up to fine tune your diet and exercise program. I had complications after surgery which made for a very long 2 weeks after surgery. Don't push yourself too hard because it isn't worth risking any setbacks. In time you'll get your calories up, and you're right that you will need to. If they're too low your body will resist wanting to shed weight. I hit a stall for about a week or two in the early months and found that actually increasing my calories helped get the weight coming off again. That being said we're all different. Keep doing a food journal because that will give you something to go back and look at and help figure out what is and isn't working for you. In a few weeks you'll have a lot more options and you'll be feeling way better. The time right after surgery is tough physically as well as mentally. The mental part is what a lot of us weren't fully prepared for. Give it some time and it will all be good! -
Ah, yes....welcome to the wonderful world of Band Doctors doing the CYA shuffle. The WLS industry is a funny bunch of people. They like to sell the procedure as being quick and easy, but when the complications arise (as they do frequently), they will be the first to duck and hide under their desks. However....having said that, I do it is important to note that when you do experience something like "waking up covered in blood", the LAST thing you need to do is post it on an online forum....the FIRST thing you need to do is physically SEE your Doctor.....just get in the car, and GO there. Don't get your answers anywhere but from your Doctor, IN PERSON.

Worried I’m abusing my sleeve - 5 weeks post op / 2 week stall
Once Upon a Sleeve posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This may sound like a silly question, but I’m able to tolerate basically everything at almost 5 weeks post-op, and this makes me worried I’m somehow abusing my sleeve. I started soft solids at 3 weeks and regular solids at 4 weeks per my doctor’s orders. The only thing I am still working through is coffee - large half-caf over the course of several hours put my stomach in twists. A small decaf over several hours was fine. I am a busy mom with two active boys at home, and at least once a week we have pizza for dinner. At week 4, I was able to have a small slice with veggie toppings with no issue. I can basically eat whatever my kids eat, just in very small portions. I bought some 3.5” Asian dipping sauce bowls as my portion bowls, so I’m getting 1/2-2/3 cup of food at a time. If I eat too much or something that doesn’t agree with me, I get hiccups, so I stop. I’m trying to keep what I eat moderate fat, moderate carb. Lots of broth and lean meats and tofu and veggies. A little noodles and rice and quinoa (very little). From reading the boards, it sounds like a stall around 3 weeks is normal. I was also terribly constipated for a couple days. But now I’ve been in a stall for nearly 2 weeks! My energy is moderate - I can make it through the day but tend to fall asleep this week while my kids are playing board games after school. I stopped logging my food when I started solids because it was too complicated to log things I cooked since I used so many different ingredients. I started at 199, and have been between 181-183 the past 2 weeks. Do I need to do something differently, or is this part of the normal stall? I have an appt with my NUT in 2.5 weeks. Thanks!! -
I was sleeved December 26, 2017 with no complications. I must say this first month has been tough with the post op liquid diet!

i Wasn’t never high BMI but had lap band in Mexico and gave me complication só removed band on 12/15 and had sleeve just wondering if anyone else have this lower BMI and if you still loose after sleeve surgery?

Lapband for Life is an excellent book! I read it cover to cover before I had my surgery it was very helpful. It has a lot of helpful information for you AFTER surgery. If you have complications, questions about fills...etc. it gives you lots of helps & hints. My favorite part of the book are the Before & After pictures & stories all through the book.

How are my 7/8 or early July sleevers doing?

Doing great here! Sleeved July 2nd. Started at 256, day of surgery 238, today..... 198! No complications and I'm loving it! How about you? -
I really liked this approach of determining the underlying reasons for why we got fat. I suspect most of us will have multiple reasons and do a "1 from column A, 2 from column B" type of approach, but it helped me think through what underlying behaviors need to be be addressed for different people. Synopsized from Dr. Sharma's Obesity blog post, food insecurity vs. binge-eating syndrome), may well present with exactly the same amount of excess body fat and identical clinical complications (e.g. diabetes, reflux disease and urinary incontinence). On the other hand, two individuals, gaining weight for exactly the same reason (e.g. on anti-psychotic medications), may present with quite different complications (e.g. sleep apnea vs. osteoarthritis). The authors are certainly correct in their statement that, “Obesity is a heterogeneous and complex disease influenced by exogenous and endogenous exposures. Stratifying obesity into meaningful subtypes could provide a better understanding its causes and enable the design and delivery of more effective prevention and treatment interventions.”

So the nerves are really starting to show. I've got 3 days...3 days...whoa! It's sinking in that my life is about to change, for the better. BUT...i'm also scared. Worry is something that's been passed down in my family, we're all blessed with it...lol I'm worrying about failing. I am still confident I will rock this but there is that small sliver of self doubt holding on. Growing up I was 6 feet tall in 5th grade...no joke. Sasquatch was the kids favorite name for me. I took a lot of abuse at the hands of mostly boys. Girls ignored me or just didn't give a flip. I was made fun of by them but not to the degree boys did. I still carry those scars, i'm very untrusting of men on a personal level. My grandpa was the only man I trusted wholly. Add to all of that my father denied I was his for a long time. Let me tell you, me and my brother are mistaken for twins when we are around each other. I get called sir a lot...A LOT. All my scar tissue is emotional. I have fought hard to overcome it. I started caring about my health after some complications from diabetes. I am 37 and already had so many health issues. I'm finally at a point where I am ok with putting myself first. I always took care of people, cleaning and cooking. Even being my grandparents care taker for the last 5+ year of life. I know a lot of you understand this nerves, worry and anxiety. Right now I feel so isolated. I have zero local friends because I have bad social anxiety so I suck at making friends. I know these jumbled thoughts might not make sense but it's how i'm feeling.

Time off work post-op
angierue replied to angierue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know there's always the chance of complications and my week off is based on an easy surgery with no major issues. I have a fairly high pain tolerance so my biggest concern is being weak and fatigued easily. My work days are usually around 9-10 hours long. I can take breaks and have a fridge and microwave available. I might get a small blender to keep up there as well. -
Calling all sleevers with desk jobs....
Roo101769 replied to hopeliveshere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon has already cleared with me to be off one week. ( I don't have a date yet either) He said that as long as there are no complications, that I am healing well and I can tolerate any pain without being a zombie on drugs I can go back to work. ( I am in accounting) I do plan to have someone help me with my daughter and my dogs for a little while, but sitting on my butt I can do either at a desk or at home! LOL -

Do your body a favor and take 2 weeks. I worked from bed on day 5,6 and after 2 meetings I was worn out. I had a simple recovery, no complications. The first week I felt great! By the second week, the fact that I had overdone it the first week, the low calories and the even lower carbs caught up to me and I had 3 days where I couldn't even hardly get out of bed. You have to understand, I think I am superwoman. I am full of energy most times, and I am a workaholic. For me to not go to work, something has to be seriously wrong. And for me to not have energy is bizarre. Well like I said, I paid for my over-working my body the first week. Today is 16 days later and I put in half a day but really my brain is at half-power. But if I had a day full of meetings, I could have pushed through it today. So take care of your bruised and traumatized body and take at least 2 weeks off if you can. -
I couldn't understand the "reversibility" of the band, like "ah, this skinny thing isn't really for me... I think I liked being fat and unhealthy better. Take it out!" Why would reversibility be a good thing unless there was a high rate of revision caused by complications? Bypass and DS were too extreme.

It seems most of us decided the sleeve was right for us for the same reasons... Basically the sleeve was the least complicated and seemed better living afterward. So far that is true!

Why did you choose the band over GB?
desertmom replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I read your post and decided to not read all the answers before posting my own...my opinion is purely experience...not affected anymore by what I should be feeling like of what it should have been like or what it is like for others.... Being scared stiff of dying was the biggest reason I went for the band and not for the GB or rather DS (prefered surgery)Got the impression that 1 in 200 people actually die from the other ops.......also that the long term complications are a lot more in the other operations than with the band.... After all the trouble that I am having with the band and the money I have spent on tests and dr's and the fact that they can do nothing but remove it again I doubt that the problems is any worse with the other ops...I wonder what is worse.....having you insides rearranged and then having problems (but you do know why..)or having a foreign object inside you and never knowing why I am having so much pain, reflux, heartburn back pain.....never knowing what is happening at the site of that foreign object because I have a lot of pain....a foreign object that inevetably will have to be removed again......and I am still 30kg's overweight. I will be more than 20000 dollars out of pocket.....and when the band is gone the weight might come back (without a change of habit it will)...it works out to 500 dollars per kg.....if I knew that I would have gotten a private trainer and a nutritionist and a life coach and I am sure I would have lost all the weight what with all the positive motivation and lifestyle changes.... Or if I could get courage from somewhere I would have gone for the duodenal switch and it would have been harder to recover and I would have been sicker in the beginning...but I would have been at goal now, drinking my Vitamins...eating my Proteins.......not wondering if I am a total fool for going on holiday before doing the gastroscopy and not freaking out because I will have to have another anesthetic (have a lung decease that makes it very high risk...) wondering what the long term complications will be after the band is removed...just going through all this everyday of my life tells me that the medical centre that doesnt do the op anymore needs a medal....... MY OPINION.....EVERYONE IS ENTITLED...... -
Why did you choose the band over GB?
Ceparano replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Can someone tell me the difference between gastric bypass and a DS? They sound like they are basically the same surgery. I am pre-banding and have really appreciated all the different views I have seen on this forum. I too am fearful of band complications, ie erosion, sliding, etc. But....... the issue of malabsorbtion, and the risks of BP surgery scares me more. To me it's all about choices, thank God we all have them. You know what they say,... different strokes for different folks -
Please share your story with me from band to sleeve I'm in my pre op and very anxious
orrio82 replied to Brigiter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the lapband in May of 2010. I lost 50 lbs, but regained 15 of that. Everytime I would go in for a fill, within 12-18 hours later I would be back in Urgent Care with the acid reflux cough the next day back to surgeon having fill out. I tried it evey 6 months for the first 2 years, then just stopped going. I vomited almost with every meal after 2 bites. Very frustrating. In June 2014, I met back with a surgeon, he suggested the band be taked out so the vomiting would stop. I was scared, I did not want to gain the 35 pounds back. He suggested the sleeve, and I started the procedures. I had both surgeries, the same day with a over night stay, October 6. Went back to work on the 15, and since that day I walk a mile on my lunch. Unfortunately, that is the only real exercise I get. Not that 1 mile 7 days a week is bad. I have lost 70lbs and have had no complications. Knock on wood. My only regret, is not doing it sooner. Good Luck you will love it -
band removal n revision to sleeve....any complications w sleeve
Jess55 replied to f1stborn2014's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
In the same boat. I had my band in dec 2010. I haven't lost that much and still need to lose 50-60lb. I keep vomiting and am miserable. I spoke with my doc today about revising to the sleeve (or bypass). Which he reccomendation the sleeve for me. He actually removed ALL my fluid today (which I was not expecting). Now I am worried about gaining. I haven't gained in a bit but I haven't lost either. He said he is doing more and more band to sleeve revisions. I really hope due ton he go it to g complication my insurance will ok the procedure. I can't afford it myself and as of right now I don't qualify for it. Bmi is 35 with no comorbidities. He did say it would be slightly more risky due to the scar tissue the band has caused, but said it should be ok. Keeping my fingers crossed.
