Sleeve to bypass hopefully

So I appealed to Aetna, and they still said no. Thankfully my husband changed jobs, so I moved to his insurance, and now I have Anthem! I looked at their guidelines, which seem much more straightforward than Aetna's. My doctor will submit everything again today. Unfortunately, my doctor only will perform the surgery if they approve me for the bypass and not the hernia repair, so I’m hoping this works! Wish me luck! 🍀 I’m so tired of going through the hoops, and I’m feeling horrible, so I need this so bad 😭 -

Good evening. So i had my gastric bypass yesterday morning. Have to say everything is going well. No pain, no gas, kinda feels like i did nothing. Incision is very small, my dr was great! So happy i went through with it and didn't back down! -

I'm glad you are feeling better! I'm getting worried about the pain but it seems that if I take the pain meds and it only lasts a few days then I'll be ok. Just have to get through it. I love the premier so I hope I don't hate it after my surgery. I bought some fairlife just in case but I don't like milk so we'll see. Sorry you are having acid issues. I already have acid issues normally which is why I'm going for the bypass. Hopefully yours will settle down soon. Thank you for all the insight, it really helps! -
Sleeve to bypass hopefully

I am so glad to see I am not alone. 8 years post op with a sleeve. My reflux apparently was responsible for me losing my tonsils, losing 3 teeth and now having chronic sinus infections. I couldnt have imagined it would be from the acid reflux from the sleeve. I am in process for getting approved for a bypass conversion and if it relieves the symptoms then i am a happy camper. Just glad to know I am not a freak 😂 -
I didn't have one for my gastric bypass (some people do, some don't - probably the same with sleeve). I did have one after my tummy tuck, though.

My gastric bypass with hernia repair is scheduled for October 3, 2022 pending insurance approval.

I am also having the bypass on the 19th. There are quite a few who posted that they were having it on the 19th too so we'll have lots of company. The 12th is I think the winner for the most people though. Getting close! I have a split liver shrinking diet where the 1st week I could have 1 small meal and then 2 meals replaced with shakes. So tomorrow will be my last small meal and then its liquids only until at least a week after surgery for me. This 1st week has not been bad at all, so fingers crossed next week will go as smoothly. -
Sooooo I had the band placed in 2008, did pretty will with it, (so I thought) lost about 50 pounds and held in the 180’s. However, it turns out I really didn’t do well with the band. Almost everything made me vomit. The vomiting continued until I had a hiatal hernia. Band was loosened, the weight came back. They retighten the band, and weight hasn’t budged. I’m about 10 pounds lighter than I was when I had the band placed. Not only am I embarrassed by my weight. I’m embarrassed for people to know I have the band, and it failed, and I am going to try this for a second time. I had an app with a surgeon this week. I’m going to get my band out, and be revised to bypass. This will hopefully help with the vomiting and get the weight off once and for all. He said based on the length of time I have had the band, he wants to do this in 2 steps. Band and scar tissue out and then bypass 1-2 months after. I’m terrified something will happen, the band will come out and then I can’t get the revision.

Hello. I am having DS on November 9th. I have already changed my diet to make an easier transition after surgery. We went to a Chinese buffet tonight and I panicked. I need to do some research on options at different restaurants so I will be better prepared. Any advice? Let's Go Stl Blues[emoji170][emoji169]

Ooh I believe you would have been able to take them for sure. But it may have been a while going without AND they may not have absorbed as well. That’s what they told me I needed to be concerned with was them not absorbing properly with bypass but then I learned sorta like you did that lots of people do not have any issues with Med absorption after bypass. Who knows though, we could have been one of the few that did have an issue. -

Well, i had weakened moment, and paid for it , so Thursday 1 week onto my pre op diet of 2 protein shakes and a meal with at least 3 oz of protien, i was so hungry my job had subs and wraps, and of course i had a turkey wheat wrap, that was not a good idea i was serverly constipated, and excuse my language, was in labor 2 hrs, and finally had a 4lb poop baby that was the worst feeling in the world. I was so weak after and disoriented, tuesday was my final visit before my surgery on the 15th, i weighed 234.7 after the birth i went down to 230.3. But im now worried because ive been reading about what happens if you cheat will on your pre op diet, uuugh does anyone have advice or been through a weak moment. Ive talked to a couple of people who have had the bypass and said they did the pre op diet 3 days before surgery and was fine. But on a positive side i haven't cheated since and my hunger cravings have gone e away. But im still 😟 concerned -

That's why I chose it, as well. I'm off my anti inflammatory (Celebrex) and I'm off my 3 diabetes pills (Metformin, Januvia, and Glipizide) and my blood pressure pill (Lisinopril) but I have 3 meds for my MS that I will never be able to stop taking. My surgeon told me if I have bypass I won't be able to take pills (these meds don't come in any other form and can't be crushed) so I chose the sleeve. THEN, I saw several people (A LOT of people, actually) on here who had bypass and are able to take pills, some even from day 1 while still in the hospital. So that's when I started to second guess my decision. Maybe it would have been possible to take pills, and if so, then I definitely made the wrong choice. -
Hi! I had bypass on 8/17 and finally getting the hang of this! I was in ER one week after surgery for impacted bowel. Then had major pain in my incision site a few days later. This week I had my meds too quickly and proceeded to throw up 13 times! It’s been crazy. I’m still not in a good routine yet. Does anyone have a good schedule that is working for them?

I am a year and a half out and I sorta wish I had gone with the bypass too. Not cause of any complications, just cause I didn’t lose as much as I had hoped and I wonder if the grass would’ve been greener on the other side. I chose sleeve because I am on medications though and have to remind myself that I may have issues with that had I chosen differently. I think it’s pretty natural to wonder if things could have been better if we had made a different choice but who knows. I have to think that everything happens for some reason. That’s what makes me feel a little better about it. -

Well, I'm on day 14 of my stall, and it's weird that I'm not stressing. I think I expect it to last a good 3 to 3 1/2 weeks since each stall lasts about a week longer than the previous one. My scope is next week, and I'll be glad to finally get it done. I seem to be doing ok with 40mg of Nexium twice a day, although I have to really watch what I eat still, and I have to take the GI cocktail when I start having bad problems again. I took it for a week before every meal. Now I take it as needed. The shedding from my hair is getting pretty heavy now. It's not worrying me because I knew it was coming, but it's really getting on my nerves!!! My hair is literally getting EVERYWHERE!!! I have to clean it a few times a day. If I run my fingers through my hair, I shed. If I brush my hair, I shed. If I wash my hair, I shed. When I get up in the morning, the movement on my pillow through the night caused me to MAJORLY shed. It's really aggravating. I'll be glad when it slows down. Now that I'm almost 4 1/2 months out from surgery, I noticed I'm able to eat larger portions of food. That's tripped me up a few times, so I have to be extra mindful of that. I really wish I had lost my hunger, and I really wish I had restriction. I didn't get any of the useful benefits or "extras" that most get with the surgery. BUT, I'm still working out and doing what I'm supposed to. I just wish it wasn't such an uphill battle everyday. I definitely wish I had gone with the bypass. But I didn't, so I'm going to do everything I can to make this work. -
Gastric Bypass as an Outpatient

Omg heck no lol. I did the sleeve and i stayed overnight and i am glad i did. there i at least had an IV to keep me hydrated well and got meds thru my IV. For bypass people they typically stay 2 nights (At my hospital at least) -
So, my Doctor's office kinda surprised me when they scheduled my surgery date. They told me date of Oct 3 and then come back on the 4th for a follow up. I was surprised because everything I have read has had gastric bypass as a two night stay. Has anyone this? If so, how long were you there before you were sent home? What did you bring with you, other than comfy clothes?

Fixing hiatal hernia after vsg

Recovery is close to the same as after WLS. Limited liquid/soft diet etc. Usually not as long or "strict". Same little incisions but sometimes 1 up a little higher. I actually had a MAJOR HH but had it fixed during my bypass surgery. I only know the details because my surgeon discussed them with me during an appointment.
