Hi everyone. Tomorrow I’m having a colonoscopy, the 1st one since my bypass over 4 years ago. I’m a little worried about taking all the SuTab pills with all the water that is required. The doctor’s office said that my stomach acid will breakdown the pills quickly. But I don’t really have any stomach acid. I’m afraid the pills are gonna get washed down to quickly & won’t work. Anyone else have to do the awful prep after a bypass?

Anyone wanna cheer me up?

Since you seem so on the fence about the surgery, my only suggestion would be to try *everything else* first. Make sure that this revision is your *last resort*. That way, you can go into it knowing that you have no other options; that this surgery is the only way. And, you can toss the match on that bridge and walk away without looking back. -
Vsg to Rny w/ a December surgery date. Liquid diet for the holidays!
LeighlonLove replied to Khalilahluv's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm having revision surgery on 12/29 and started pre-op diet on the 15th. I had my VSG surgery in Mexico in 2016 and wasn't nervous at all. After gaining over 100 pounds back (thank you Covid isolation and depression) I decided to explore the conversion which was the surgery originally advised for me but my insurance wouldn't pay for it. I'm really nervous this time and I'm having surgery close to home. Also feeling super emotional about it and trying not to keep internally beating myself up for feeling like I failed! I struggle with the protein drinks so I've been buying the high protein yogurts and I found a zero calorie gatorade with added protein that they did a good job hiding the whey aftertaste. It's not as high in protein as a shake but I figure If I'm getting it in that's what matters -

I didn't have a revision, (virgin bypass here) but I had the same concerns pre-op. I was worried about never being able to eat a piece of steak again.. or becoming lactose intolerant. I LOVE DAIRY! Long story short, none of it happened. I can eat anything I want, never dumped or maybe once but so mild I am still not even sure if that's what it was. By about 5-6 months, I was pretty much perfectly back to "normal" other than the restriction and eating WAY less than my normal pre-op self. I never had a problem getting my fluids or hitting protein goals. You got this! Don't worry. I know everyone is different but keep in mind, negative travels faster than positive! So it seems like you hear about more negative things but in reality it is just how word of mouth travels. Best of luck to you! -
I just had gastric bypass surgury and I'm not having the problems that other people are. I haven't thrown up or had dumping syndrome.I'm in the liquid phase about to go to purees.I don't have that full or tight feeling after drinking or eating. It's like my stomach is streching or something because I had 6 oz of tomato soup and had no tightness.I always set a timer so I slow down with eating.I'm a bit concerned because most people can't handle that much or get sick but I don't how worried should I be?

I was revised from VSG to RNY over three years ago. I can say that my lifestyle and routine is about 95% the same as VSG (and about 75% the same as pre WLS.) I think I was back to what I considered normal in about 4 months after surgery. Your experience may vary of course. The 5% margin of difference between VSG and RNY was the immediate post op period where I had to adjust to new bathroom habits and figuring out exactly which food I no longer could tolerate. Now even the things I didn’t tolerate immediately I can have in some amount and some things I just don’t want at all (super sugary sweet stuff). I can’t speak to the weight loss aspect because I was at my goal and have pretty much stayed there, but the reflux/GERD is gone and has not returned, yet (although unlikely anything is possible). Good luck -
I’m having my revision from sleeve to bypass a week from today. Going over all the dietary changes and potential unknowns, I’m just not looking forward to this at all. I wish my weight and reflux were much worse so the revision felt 100% necessary; right now it feels more like 50%, but that’s not going to change the longer I wait. I’m dreading the post-op period and all it’s unpleasantness. Long term, I’m really worried about food intolerances changing my ability to enjoy things that bring me a lot of pleasure. Trying new foods when I travel, indulging in a pastry on a Friday morning, drinking fabulous wine. I swear, I don’t even remember how I managed all the mental and social repercussions the first time around. It just feels more daunting this time. Maybe because it was so unambiguously needed then, I had a more gung ho attitude. Could someone please tell me that six months or a year from now, my lifestyle will be pretty much the same as it is today? Perfectly okay to fib to me if needed 😅

Hello July buddies! I'm 5 mos out from surgery. I hope to post a couple of pics here soon. My highest weight was 290 lbs about 2 years ago; I'm now at 175 lbs. I am still losing a pound every few days. I'm learning my triggers and finding new hobbies - which includes cooking! My goal is to be 150 lbs but i'll see what my body tells me to do. My husband is scheduled for bypass next month. Very excited for him! I'm trying to remember all my tips & tricks to help him out. He says my progress has been a great motivator for him. He's such a sweetheart I hope you all are doing well & are healthy. Merry Christmas!

The first few months post-op are the hardest because you’re still healing from surgery and adjusting to a lot of changes, but you’re not yet getting the benefits of the weight loss. It’s very normal at this stage to have feelings of regret and wonder if the surgery was a mistake. As time goes by, though, it gets easier in many ways. You’ll be able to re-introduce more foods into your diet as well as get used to the changes that will become your new “normal.” And in the meantime, you’ll lose a lot of weight and get to experience life as a non-obese person. This rough part of your journey will be a blip in your memory, and if you’re like most of us, eventually your only regret will be that you didn’t do this sooner. I’m 2.5 years out from gastric bypass and I can eat pretty much normally. I still avoid foods that are high in sugar or fat, and bread, pasta, and rice, but I tolerate most foods and I eat pretty normal-sized portions. In fact, it scares me sometimes to see how much volume I can eat, and I have to be pretty careful to eat low-calorie foods. Sometimes I kind of miss the early post-op days when I could only eat a few bites at a time and was never hungry. Although it’s not fun, take advantage of this time because it will never be easier to lose weight than it is right now.

I am having gastric bypass on the 29th as well! I started my liquid diet on Thursday. It hasn't been as tough as I thought it would be, but I do a lot of self talking and keeping my eye on the goal of a healthier life. My surgery will be in Portland. Where are you located? -

I'm having gastric bypass on Dec 29. Anyone else have a gastric bypass coming up who wants to be surgery buddies? -
We're surgery twins! I'm having gastric bypass on the same day. I wouldn't have selected that day myself, but I appreciate that my surgery center held the date for me in November while waiting for my insurance to pre-authorize. Which procedure are you having? How far are you traveling for your procedure?

My gastric bypass is 12/29! Good luck. Which procedure are you having?

Post Op 2.5 months Constipation... Advice needed!!!
catwoman7 replied to ashleydashley's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
constipation is a very common issue with WLS patients (both bypass and sleeve). A lot of us take something like Miralax, stool softeners, or magnesium tablets every day to keep on top of it. I've been taking a capful of Miralax every day for years. I still get backed up maybe once a month now, but a night or two of milk of magnesia solves that. -
Good morning, happy to find our forum to check in as we prepare for our life changing surgery. I'm grateful to be on this journey. My bypass is scheduled January 23, 2023.

Daddyof4 replied to breprih's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have BCBS Federal and they covered my band to bypass revision in March 22. I had to go through the whole process again but it was worth it! -
So is it just me or does this really change ur relationship! Ive been married for over 10 years and ever since I got the surgery and I’ve lost so much weight it’s like wow my husband is all over me , wants sex all the time , I can really tell he likes the new me or more like my new body. The thing is he’s changing , very controlling and basically doesn’t let me go out not even to family events like I’m feeling like a prisoner ! It’s just getting worst

No typical day either. While I am almost 1.5 years after my revision (gerd), and I still feel like a noobie lol.... I had WLS back in 2008 so it's been awhile for me too.

When to tell your new partner you had surgery and imposter syndrome?
fourmonthspreop replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you all. Very wise words. We are officially together but I am still scared to tell him. I think I know he wouldn't care but I believe he might have his stigmas on WLS. He's kind of an al natural guy and that's what I fear the most. I know eventually it's going to have to come out. My scars are super faint. He's seen my lower belly and hasn't said anything about them but he could also just be polite lol. I think though if there's anything I've learned from getting a gastric bypass, it's that people do not understand how it works and won't take your word for it either when you try to educate them. I guess I'm also scared about that. I don't know. He's lived a pretty crazy life I'm sure he's seen it all. I will come around one day. Might just be too soon for me. Beyond being a private person, I am still crazy insecure talking about my body journey. That conversation would be hard for more than one reason. But I always love the words of wisdom here. March 2022 Surgery Buddies
UniqueHandle replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on March 22; I've lost 102 pounds. My starting weight at home was 308.6 and my weight this morning was 206.4. However, my rheumatologist has my highest weight at 314.8, so according to him, I've lost 108 pounds. Whatever the loss, it's great. I still see a heavy person when I look in the mirror, but my clothes were a 4x and now I can wear a large. I had the sleeve and I've had terrible reflux. So bad, I have inhaled it into my lungs while I sleep several times. My doctor wants to do a revision after the holidays. 😒 -
surgery date: 9/7/2022 surgery weight: 354 lbs current weight: 281 lbs goal weight: 180 lbs :) these first few months were rough, some complications and surgical revisions, but i wouldn’t change it for anything. i feel great now! :)

After the lapband, my biggest surprise would be... You are going to love the bypass (provided that you have a great surgeon). There is a learning curve, and during liquids and purees, you will not feel much restriction due to healing and the natural flow of liquids and purees through the small pouch. But once you get to soft solids, take it easy. Chew chew chew, after each bite assess whether you are satisfied enough to stop or not. It does not feel like a torture device, it's more of a natural feeling of satisfaction if you take your time during meals. If you rush it too soon, you will get the foamies similar to a bad episode of the lapband.

I have a lap-band (since 2009) and I know all there is to know about that BUT, now that I am moving towards revision to bypass I feel a little overwhelmed with all that I don't know. What is the best piece of advice you can give me? Perhaps something you wish you knew about before or something you wish you did differently. ANYTHING!

When to tell your new partner you had surgery and imposter syndrome?
Old Salt replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
First off, Congratulations for getting back out there in your new life. And also preparing for a marathon! That is fantastic! Now from a Man's point of view. You found a guy that is into health & fitness which is a good thing for you. He is "super encouraging" and supportative in a positive manner. You actully DID go on a "restrictive calorie" diet to achieve your superb weight loss. You just used another tool in the box called gastirc bypass to assist you. You should be very proud of yourself for doing that. Now to answer the question. Yes IF reaching that point of seriousness in your relationship. The disclosure most likely won't matter to him but will give you peace of mind to continue your relationship. Don't make it a confessional type of discussion where you sound ashamed, but rather matter-of-factly in discussing your nutritional needs. Consdering his background, he probaly will be eager to assist you in your journey. If he is serious about you, your relationship willl continue to grow. It is no big deal for a guy (even a fitness buff). Would he care if you previously had facelifts or breast implants? Would you even mention that? If he is serious, he likes you for who you are NOW. Good luck and stay postive!
