August surgery buddies!
LookingForward22 replied to Connie88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So my first week big loss… next three weeks stall… they suggested I up my calories and protein… now I gained! 🤦🏽♀️ This is really frustrating! Im tracking everything - weigh and measure every bite. I’m hoping there’s going to come a point where my body just gets it together and everything clicks… I’m just wondering when that will be. Right now I’m feeling very bloated and constipated (things moving, but slowly). -
Are you feeling tired all the time?

Probably the lack of calories catching up to you. Take care. -
Weight gaine 3 weeks post op from sleeve
AmbiiNicole replied to AmbiiNicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not tracking calories right now as I just started pureed a week ago and I can barely eat 2 oz a day twice a day. But it can't hurt to start tracking. Also, I still struggle to get all of my water in but am working on it. Will definitely be talking to my doctor and dietician. -
RNY maintenance calories?
STLoser replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have a RNY. I had the SADI-S, but I just got to maintenance in July. So far I'm up to about 1600 calories and was maintaining although last week I had a 2 pound gain. I'm not sure if it's from too many calories or water weight because I increased my exercise a lot. I guess we will see how it goes. I am 51 so I may need less since I'm close to menopause. RNY maintenance calories?
ms.sss replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like others said, maintenance calories differ for everyone depending on body composition, lifestyle and genes. I’m 5’2” female, 50 yrs old, moderately active, 117.8 lbs (this morning) I’ve been maintaining this weight +/- a couple lbs for the past 2 years at about 1800-2000 cals a day. In comparison, i was able to maintain this same weight range 3 years ago eating as much as 2500 cals average a day…but I was waaaaay more active back then. Tracking your food consumption, weight and activity levels helps to pinpoint YOUR maintenance calories for a given desired weight. But i realize this is not for everyone…in that case just make adjustments (i.e., change your food intake, exercise frequency, sleep habits, etc) if you notice your weight (or how your clothes fit) go in a direction that you are unwilling to go. Good Luck! ❤️ -
Weight gaine 3 weeks post op from sleeve
catwoman7 replied to AmbiiNicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you would have had to have eaten 21,700 calories above and beyond what your body needs to have put on 6.2 lbs in one week. I suspect it's just water retention. Or it could be due to a very full bowel. -
RNY maintenance calories?
Tomo replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still trying to find my maintenance calorie level. After I got to goal, I added 50 calories per day every month, then 100 calories per day until my weight loss slowed down. I am in my 60s, moderately active, but no formal work out. I'm currently at 1100 to 1200 calories with a few days eating 1400 and still losing weight, albeit slowly. -

i am pre op… but are you tracking calories and nutrition macros? are you hitting water goals? could be retaining water or not balancing something in your diet. if it persists, talk to your nutritionist/ surgeon about it -
I agree with Tony, cheating like that is setting you up for bad habits later. There are so many seasonings and flavors out there that even liquid diet doesn’t have to be boring! Experiment with new spices and flavor profiles to add flavor without being chunky or big calories. here is infographic guides that may help you spice up your food and make it more palatable https://www.cooksmarts.com/articles/ultimate-infographic-guide-spices/ (of course be careful with seeds, spicy items etc until you are cleared for it)

YOUR favorite protein recipes and YOUR favorite sugar free drinks?
fourmonthspreop replied to Erin18's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
If you hate protein shakes like me, I suggest the fairlife protein shakes. They just taste like milk and nothing else. You'd need to get core power elite protein (42 grams), fairlife nutritional plan (30 grams) or the fairlife core regular (26 grams) they are all low sugar. The best bariatric macro friendly fairlife in my opinion is the fairlife nutritional plan shakes. They are lowest calorie for the most protein. I also love the Gatorade zero water enhancers. It's the glacier flavor. I add it to about 20 oz of water and add a lot of ice. Tastes like refreshing blue lemonade. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
My Dietician has a "10 calories per 1g protein" rule for getting in lean proteins. With shakes and bars, he says to stay around 20 carbs and 5g sugar. That is pretty easy to find with protein bars. Most of the bars I eat are 180-210 calories and 20g protein so they fit right in. I tried the Unjury chicken soup and didn't like it, I couldn't even get past the smell. haha I do use Unjury protein powder though, keep it on hand for switching things up a little. I like the strawberry and I mix it with SF lemonade for a yummy strawberry lemonade. I use more lemonade to thin it out too so it is not really like drinking a thick shake but tastes good. I really want to get away from the shakes but I really struggle to hit my protein when I skip them. I literally eat ALL day and still end up around 55-65g protein. With the shakes I am more like 70-90g protein a day! Plus, I have never been a breakfast person so having a shake for breakfast is just easy and convenient. Just learning as I go and tweaking when necessary.

Stall/concerns post sleeve to bypass revision
incredibleshrinkingnurse replied to lex2287's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi guys! I got my sleeve in 2015 and never really felt any restriction. I counted calories and was able to drop 60 lbs my first 3 months… and then my life exploded. The stress I was under made counting calories impossible. I still ate healthy foods for the most part but I stalled out for a full year and then slowly the weight started creeping back until I was only 15 lbs below my starting weight. Well, now my GERD is pretty bad and my father has esophageal cancer so I need a revision as much as I don’t want to go under the knife again. The thing is, I’m currently 86 lbs down from presurgery weight in 2015 and I keep losing! Ozempic and these other injectable meds for diabetes are game changers! I wish they had come up with this stuff decades ago! Of course between the GERD and the side effects I’m often nauseous if not throwing up on occasion but I’m hoping my revision will help with some of that. Has anyone else combined Ozempic (Wegovy) with a revision to RNY? My doc says I can keep taking it after surgery but at $300 plus international shipping I’m hoping I won’t need to! -
My name is Jose and I am from the UK, I had a gastric bypass a month ago so I am at the beginning of my weight loss journey.
I would like to know how many calories I should be eating a day to stay healthy, thank you for your time
-
Hello Joset, why haven't you been given a diet plan? Did you have your surgery in the UK? Every surgeon has a different diet, and no two people are on the same one. Weird I know. Contact your team if you can
Mine was two weeks clear liquids
Two weeks on soups, milk shakes and broths all with out lumps
two weeks on pureed foods { I couldn't stomach this step }
two weeks on soft foods like Protein yogurt, stewed mince and veg, soft scrambled eggs. Pate on hard crackers
Then onto any food I fancied. If you struggle on any step or with any foods go back a step for a few days. Eggs, salmon and chicken are hard for beginners.
Sorry I missed your original post, hope you are still on here.

I could not do the shakes much more than a few months. I went to other forms of protein like the Unjury chicken soup which is 20 grams in a glass of warm water. Much easier to deal with the taste. I also like the protein bars that have low calories..there are a couple out there. Be careful of the keto bars though, they have higher calories. The brands I use have between 130 and 140 calories which is right about where most shakes are. The unjury is only 90 calories or so.

Whelp six months post op tomorrow! I still do not have "hunger" but I find myself more snacky over the last few weeks. It is annoying. I still stay within my plan limits 98% of the time, sometimes going over my calories (within 100) but usually with still healthier snacks and foods. I have been eating out more because life is so crazy and hectic right now, which I need to chill there too. We are going to Florida/Disney the first week of October so I will be forced to eat out then, which is just another reason to stop now. Overall I really don't have any complaints. No issues, and still kicking butt. I see my surgeon for my 6 month check up next week and I am still ahead of the predicted weight loss chart he gave me. I am JUST NOW starting to really see my weight loss in full body pictures. Even more so since I have been wearing clothes that fit rather than huge and falling off. Tons of friends have been commenting and sending me inspiring messages or when they see me say something. It is kind of nice that people are noticing the work I am putting in. Regardless of that, when I saw pictures of myself from the weekend I was like WHOA who is this person?!?! Flipside, I look like a half deflated water balloon naked. 😂😝 HAHA! KEEP GOING PEOPLE- WE GOT THIS! 6 months and hit 100 lbs loss today since surgery and 137 total!

I'm a bit lost : PCOS, losing slowly...
seyma replied to seyma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, thank you all for your interest ! My doctor is not very available, I regret sooo much to had it done by him. I'm at an average of 1200-1300cal a day. Is it too much ? Since the second month I was able to eat more that my fellow surgery buddies who got it at the same time as me but again, we think the doctor did my gastric sleeve a bit larger since I only had 70lbs to loose. Go to work by walk, but that's it. I'm aware that I should exercise more. I eat regarding to my pcos and hormonal imbalances. Cutting calories does not work for me, I have insulin resistance. Metformin does not work for me either (stomach pain), I use ovasitol now. As I said, rarely eat between meals, even if I do it's mostly protein. I've got an appointment the next month, will see with the nutritionist. The weird thing is, I've lost like 15 pounds the first month, then nothing for 3 months, then 8 lbs again a month, then nothing for 2 months again and on until a loss of 33lbs. Only lost 2 pounds last months. Very irregular. I hope to see a change until the end of this year. I don't put a lot of pressure because I know I've got insulin resistance and a lower bmi and I was aware that it would be slower than others, but it's hard as you may all know. Thank you again -
Hello all. I’ve been away a very long time. I had my surgery in 2009. The journey has been very interesting. I kept it off for 9 years. Then it started to creep up again. So heartbreaking BUT on April 27, 2022 I got on the scale and noticed I was up to 291 lbs. I had gained 91 lbs! I started a 1200 calorie diet and exercise plan that day and have been on it ever since. To date I’ve lost 51 lbs. it’s so hard but with determination and wanting to get back to where I was I’m getting there. What I want to throw out there, don’t take your tool as a magic wand. Really work to chance your habits and lifestyle and it’ll be all worth it. I’m glad to be back if y’all will have this old chicken

I totally feel ya !. I am only 4 days post op and already having some regrets . I too did this for my family and myself of course , I have Littles that I want to be more active with and go on vacation without asking for a seat belt extension on the plane . But prior I lived to eat and loved who I was and was not ashamed of my size , don't like it don't care attitude. Now eating 2 spoons of fluid and being in constant fear of getting a leak , or passing out from not getting enough calories in . I'm looking forward to the day I can eat again , more than reaching my goal weight. Sent from my SM-G991B using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm a bit lost : PCOS, losing slowly...
Spinoza replied to seyma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel for you - it's hard enough going through weight loss surgery even when we lose weight at the rate we want to. Do you track calories? It might be worth doing so for a few days just to get a feel for where you are at the minute. Slow but sure can win the race just was well - don't give up, you're averaging a pound a week by the looks of it and that will all add up in the end. -
My short story of slow and steady weight loss
bluebellblue posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello all I thought I’d put my first post up to encourage others as I’m definitely a snail not a hare with weight loss, but getting there all the same. I had lapband surely nearly 15 years ago. Lost nothing. Didn’t work for me at all. Felt like a failure. Saved up again and decided to have the lapband removed and a bypass. Wasn’t that hopeful due to my previous experience but was desperate. Weighed 310 pounds and BMI 45. Surgery was fine with no complications. However I only lost a couple of pounds each week for the first few weeks. On about 500-600 calories a day. As food increases to about 800 calories at week 6, the slow but steady weight loss continued of 1 to 2 pounds a week. About six month stage I was light enough to join a gym. This made a huge difference to my mental health and energy. I took it slow but went three times a week. I was now on about 1000 calories a day and losing (you guessed it) 1 to 2 pounds a week. Sometimes I would lose 4 pounds a week but then nothing the week after. I didn’t really stall at all. I saw other people posting phenomenal weekly weight loss numbers. Not me! So here I am a year out and I’m eating about 1200 calories a day and losing 1 to 2 pounds a week. Lost over 100 pounds so far and feel fine plodding on as I am. So my advice is, keep tracking food, when you can try exercising, and don’t worry if your weight loss is steady like mine. You get there just the same. And, I’ve never felt better! -
So, I will be starting my pre-op diet in a little less than a month, but I wanted to test a few of the things in the plan to make sure my body reacts well to it. Usually what I do when I'm testing things, I've done this all my life to see if I'm intolerant to certain foods, is to water fast (fasting all food items other than pure water, no sweeteners or liquid calories) before I start just to wash my body clean. I decided to get on the scale to just see how things looked. I know logically I can gain fat if I don't eat those calories, but how did I gain 2lbs on a water fast? I'm so scared. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I haven't even started the pre-op diet yet. Can I get some guidance? Sent from my M2007J3SY using BariatricPal mobile app

YOUR favorite protein recipes and YOUR favorite sugar free drinks?
kcuster83 replied to Erin18's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I LOVEEEE lemonade! Minute maid makes a zero sugar lemonade and it is great. Doesn't have that artificial sweetener taste. I drink TONS of water, always have and love to. But every once in a while I just need a kick of flavor and them lemonades do it every time. The crystal light packets or other brand flavor packets are too "intense" for me. That is the best was I can explain it. I have to almost double the water to be able to tolerate them so I stopped using them. As far as shake recipes, I can't help. I have read a lot and keep saying I want to start making my own shakes but never do. The pre-made are just so convenient, plus you just can't recreate 30g protein for 150/160 calories. So, I just keep going back to the pre-made shakes and switch around the brands and/or flavors when I get bored. Sometimes I take caramel shakes and add black coffee with ice so I feel like I am having a "cheat" sugary iced coffee. I have taken vanilla powder and added powdered protein to it too, but that is about the extent of my "homemade" shakes. -
Bariatric friendly alcoholic drinks?
ms.sss replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Vodka sodas (NOT tonics…tonic water has lotsa calories!) with LOTS of lime was my go to the first year or so after surgery. Also dry red wine. Like others said, take it slow…you won’t know how you will be affected…until you do. Good Luck! -
Almost through my 4th week post op…. 3 weeks with no real weight movement. I know I’m a bit dehydrated - I’m assuming that’s why I have crushing fatigue. But not enough so that fluids are warranted apparently I’ve worked on increasing my calories and protein. It’s hit or miss but I am getting a decent amount, but my weight isn’t moving at all. When I say the fatigue is crushing - I mean any exertion of effort wipes me out. I see my pcp tomorrow - but I’m not sure he will have any suggestions the surgeon and nutritionist haven’t already offered. I am measuring and weighing every bite and I am only eating what I’m suppose to. I don’t feel well enough to exercise so I don’t imagine I will have much progress until that happens. I feel stuck/trapped right now. I know it will pass… I’m sure things will get better. It’s just really hard when I can’t even stand at the sink to wash dishes. My family is being very supportive and helping (kids and husband) but that almost makes me feel worse. They are doing things I should be. I just want to feel better. I’m trying to focus on the positives, I’ve lost weight, my body’s changing, my clothes are getting bigger…. I’m wearing things I couldn’t before. My Kees still hurt, but less. My liver is improving. My health is going in the right direction. Tuesday is 5 weeks. I don’t regret the surgery at all, I’m just disappointed in me and my lack of progress to this point. Sorry I just needed to vent my frustration. Thanks so much for listening.

New here, 3yrs post op, hoping to connect w others who are struggling nutrionally
Krestel replied to AnneMc's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I so hear you!...im in the exact same phase as you are. We both are backsliding due to old problems and just plain old life getting in the way. First of all....give yourself a break. I literally weighed myself this evening after feeling like i was back up to my old weight. But of course that is all in my head...I was at my maintenence weight and doing just fine. We forget that we need to trust the surgery as well. That said...it's always good to do a mind and body reset. I was thinking about treating myself just like i did after about 3 months after my surgery where i was cautious about everything. Try looking new angles... Personally, i think im having problems with balancing my exercise with my calories. In other words, im eating too much because my mind thinks i need to eat more after working out so much. So...that needs to get worked on as well... That said...these forums are gold! ...i havent been here a while myself, but i know that the ppl and information here is THE best in the world!
