  2. Hi👋 I just saw a video on derma rolling loose skin on YouTube. The woman in the video seems to get great results. I was wondering if anyone has tried it for loose skin, and if so, was it effective in reducing the appearance of loose skin? I think it is also supposed to help with scars and stretch marks as well. I'm still pre-op, so I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking it may be worth a shot! I know it is popular to use it on the face, and haven't tried that yet, either. I have read that you need to be careful with making sure to clean the roller and area of skin properly.

    Having a tough time

You've lost so much weight!!! That's something to be super proud of, definitely take a minute to pat yourself on the back and celebrate your accomplishment. I'm sorry you're going through this. 115 is a really low goal. Most bariatric patients don't get to such a low BMI. Maybe work on losing the 30 lbs you need to for skin surgery and set your final goal a little higher so you don't feel so disheartened? As for losing more weight right now, don't do anything drastic; just focus on the basics, like eating good food; veggies and lean protein. Try using an app like MyFitnessPal or Baritastic to track your calories. Don't beat yourself up for gaining weight during the pandemic - it happened to a LOT of people!! Wishing you the best!
  4. I had my WLS/Rou-y on May 15, 2018, and I now have excess skin near my stomach, thighs, hips, and arms. I'm supposed to be losing more weight toward my surgery to get rid of the excess skin on my stomach because I keep getting rashes, infections, and fungus in the area to the point I have open sores so Medicaid is deeming it medically necessary and deciding to cover it. I'm having a hard time because I hit a weight plateau during the pandemic and gained 13 pounds (I was supposed to lose at least 30) and I'm nowhere near my goal. I don't know what to do with myself and I'm highly disappointed. I do need someone to vent to right now.

    lipo lift

I've heard about it but I'll let you know if I go ahead with getting it or not. They told me I still have to lose more weight just to get any kind of surgery to remove or tighten up my excess skin. They told me I need to be at least 180 for them to do anything for me so I've been working on it.

bathing suits that cover hanging skin

I have a swim shirt and I love it because I burn super easy on my shoulders and chest and it's the ultimate sun screen. Mine is like the swimtee mentioned above. I've never seen the jacket ones! Something else I really like....is body make up. I get Sally Hansen airbrush leg makeup. I use it on my legs and my arms and shoulders. It makes me look tan without being orange, and provides a lot of coverage for scars, old stretchmarks, weird skin areas like the underside of upper arms...lol You can swim in it for about an hour without it coming off. You scrub it off at the end of the day with soap....it is not an artificial tanner product, so it won't leave you with weird dirty looking knees and ankles. The color looks tremendously natural. I love it. I also like the "slimsuit" brand of swim suits....they have more support built in to kinda sculpt me into the best lines possible.

    Lost my bum

My butt has always been big, even at my smallest weight. I've lost 162 so far and it is still big, but at the bottom where it meets my legs it is loose and saggy. Sometimes when sit on the toilet it feels like I'm sitting on wadded up toilet paper or something, but it's the skin bunching up! I am also having tailbone pain when I sit too long.. I still hope to lose at least another 40 pounds, so I imagine it will only get worse. [emoji2368] Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Hi Friends, I have lost about 50lbs. I am struggling with how my arms and legs look. I did know that things would start to sag. It really is bothering me. I am very self conscious about this. I have a "beach weekend" planned with the girls next month. Do any of you have a website where I can buy a bathing suit that covers some of this???

    July 2021 Surgery People!

All of these tips and hints are really useful! Thank you everyone! I too did worry about surgery bag for hospital. But I’ve chosen a very large oversized night dress to wear for after surgery. Baggy pjs and baggy tshirt to travel home, I was planning on going bra-less for comfort. I too have all my shakes, Protein waters, Broth, ice lollies and jelly ready. also doing a deep clean of the house to keep me busy during pre op diet which is going ok so far. How much weight did everyone loose on average pre op? I lost about 7lbs in the first two days. But maintaining now, I hope it’s enough. good luck to everyone due in the next few days and I wish you all the best for the crew that have just comE out of surgery. we got this! 💪🏻
  10. This got way longer than I expected, so let me start with the TL;DR: If you have gotten counseling that has helped with your WLS success, can you please give me some tips for how to find a good therapist? And what I should be discussing with that therapist? I'm looking at you, @Creekimp13 and @catwoman7 (since you've both mentioned the importance of therapy in your long-term success), but I would love to hear from anyone who has gotten this kind of counseling... I've seen so many people say that therapy is really important for long-term success with WLS. I'm almost a year out and I've been struggling lately, and I've had a hard time finding a good therapist. I searched my insurance company's website for therapists who treat eating disorders. I reached out to a practice that had a few therapists who had eating disorders listed as one of their specialties, and they sent a very curt reply saying that they don't have anyone on staff who treats eating disorders. I called another practice and explained that I'm a WLS patient looking for counseling on food and eating issues, and they assured me they could help, but the therapist they assigned to me knew nothing about WLS. I had a few sessions with him and it was useless. I had to keep explaining basics about WLS (like food restrictions, dumping syndrome, not eating and drinking at the same time, loose skin -- which he thought would go away on its own if I exercise enough and when I explained that the only way to get rid of it is plastic surgery, he suggested I ask my bariatric surgeon to do it at my next follow-up). He didn't seem to understand my issues at all. In hindsight, I probably should have walked out of the first session. When I started telling him my WLS story and mentioned that my highest weight was 341 pounds, he interrupted me: "Sue?" I stopped and said, "Yes?" He replied, with a big smile on his face, "Sue, you were FAT!" and then busted out laughing, like it was cool to make fun of how fat I used to be just because I'm not that big anymore. When I told him I wanted to get counseling to address my food and eating issues to make sure I don't gain the weight back, he replied, "You won't gain the weight back. If I had a $100 bill right now, I would bet $100 that you won't gain the weight back," and then we never discussed regain again in the next 3 sessions. I think he was under the impression that regain was an irrational fear and he did his job by reassuring me that it's not going to happen. Then I found another practice that has a whole paragraph on its web site about the support they offer for bariatric patients both before and after surgery. I called to make an appointment and said that I had bariatric surgery last year and I was interested in the post-surgery counseling they described on their web site. The receptionist told me she needed my surgeon's office notes from my most recent visit, and was oddly insistent that the notes come directly from the surgeon's office and not from me downloading them from my electronic chart and sending them. I had to sign release paperwork for the surgeon's office, and when the counseling practice got it, they called me and said they were confused because my surgeon's notes said I already had the surgery so there was no need for me to get a pre-surgery evaluation. I guess they thought I was asking for a psych eval for surgery approval and couldn't understand why I would need counseling after I already had the surgery. I cited the paragraph on their web site and they sent me to a seemingly random therapist (probably the first one with an opening) who had no experience with WLS patients. She's better than the last guy, but the sessions have been pretty generic -- basically, she asks me how my week has been, I talk about things that happen (usually relating to WLS issues), and she asks me how I feel about it or how I handled it. Doesn't feel like I'm getting anywhere -- just feels like a WLS patient Q&A. I told her this and she suggested I think about what exactly I want to discuss and tell her next week. I'll give that a try, but to be honest, I don't really know -- she's the therapist, so I was counting on her to provide that kind of guidance!

you are so right to wait on the Vax. My friend Donna who i adore's skin issues flared up so bad after her vax. She said her dr is seeing an influx of patients that have Autoimmune problems coming in. I feel so bad for her. my hubby got the vax, he was down for 2 day. So, i'll just wait. Sophie you are soooooo talented.

    Postop diet advice

If it's just two weeks that you haven't lost weight you could be in a completely normal stall. That happens all the time in weight loss. Stalls last 1-3 weeks regardless of how "perfect" you are on your program. And... you did lose a pound in the last two weeks, so you're not even technically "stalled". The only thing I would say is if you still don't loose in a few weeks, maybe increase your clear liquids and find something with more protein for breakfast instead of oatmeal. Good luck!

    Finally in Onederland!! 🎉

Congrats! You look great, btw. I also do Pilates for the loose skin issue as I lose weight. It seems to really help. m So nice to see what 10 mos. post op looks like. My Dr. told me that I probably won't be able to get skin surgery until a year post op. when he estimates that I will reach my goal. My arms are the worst but I really don't think I need to wait a year. Time will tell. Take care...

    Finally in Onederland!! 🎉

10 months post op and I’m fluctuating between 165-167. I’ve been exercising regularly and thankfully have toned a lot of my lose skin. I still have a lot on my upper thighs and stomach but I’m ok with that. At this point I want to lose about 5-7 more pounds - initially I thought more but I’m almost to where I want to be. I’m so thankful for this surgery.

Pants Size and Other Bariatric Sites

This is a strange one for me. I swear it takes a LOT in order for me to notice a real difference in my clothes. Since surgery I lost 34.9 but since March 1st my total is 53.4 lbs. I also lost 17.5 inches total since 5/7 which was a few weeks before surgery. Anyway, before surgery I'd mostly wear loose, cotton type capri pants. Those feel way baggy when I wear them but they don't fall down (I think they were a 3x). My shirts seem to hang off my shoulder more (also 3x's). But, when it comes to jeans before surgery I would wear size 28 (a few 30's also depending on the brand/how they were made). I have this one pair of jean capri's that are a size 26 and I use them as reference when I try to lose weight. In other words, if I fit them again I KNOW I lost SOME weight. Well they fit again. Not loosely. But to be honest, having lost all that I have, I still do NOT think I could get into a size 24. This cracks me up because you would think having lost close to 55lbs and 17 inches that I'd have lost more than just ONE pant size. But no. SMH This is the kind of crap that effs with my head and makes me feel like this (surgery) isn't working like it should be. Maybe my body is just too effed up?

Rapid weight loss 7/8 weeks out

For me, around week 8, I started loosing more again about five a week and had been loosing about two the weeks leading up to it. It lasted about three weeks then slowly went back down to about two. It happened again at five months out. I am six months out now it seems to be going back down to 1 to 2 a week. I think our hormones play into it and like everyone says, everyone is different. If you are worried, it would not hurt to call your doctor.

    June Surgeries

I’m so sorry that you got treated that way. I can’t say as mine ( follow up) will be much better. We will see tomorrow. We have a ‘portal’ to send/receive messages to the bariatric team, but this far the ‘answers’ I get are ‘short and not REALLY answering anything I’m asking’. It seems that since the surgery they are kinda ‘done’ w me, and that may be just my emotions talking, or I’m sure that’s what they will try and say, lol. I have only lost 7 pounds, and I know I shouldn’t be ‘on the scale’, but of course I am! I see all these other ppl loosing soo much more post op. My pain is ok, I haven’t taken anything since 3 days out, but I am having a ‘stitch pain’( from what I’ve read) when I move a certain way, raise my arm. It’s on the right side. I did have a minor hernia repair while he was in tho, I had no idea I had it. As far as bandages, I was glued shut, so I never had any bandages so I’m not sure about that. I started my vitamins back today. I haven’t had any trouble getting my water in daily. The first few days it was a struggle. I have not been nauseous or thrown up at all , knock on wood,. I have followed the diet ( mostly, I had some mashed potatoes) . I have NOT ate ANYTHING sweet, I’m scared of dumping syndrome. I drink the protein shakes for most of my protein, and just started yesterday on stage 3, adding ‘mushy meat’ to my diet and smashed veggies. The ricotta bake tasted SOOOO heavenly!! How are you feeling????
  18. I usually wear tight leggings for my cardio workout and later change into loose-fitting joggers before I take a walk in my neighborhood. Yesterday, I was feeling lazy about changing my pants and I realized: I can probably wear leggings in public without anyone saying, "Ew, she should NOT be wearing that," or "Nobody needs to see THAT."* I might be able to pass for just another basic b****! * To be clear, I don't think anyone should say that no matter what someone's weight, but I've heard people say it and it always stopped me from wearing leggings in public.

    Plus sized spray tan???

I'm not a huge fan of spray on tans. Maybe it's the way my skin cells shed, or maybe i don't exfoliate enough, or just have weird dry skin? I don't know. But when I get a spray on tan, I look Orange for a little while...then my skin sheds a little and I look weirdly speckled. I don't care for it. I also don't like the smell of the spray tan, particularly after a shower or swimming. However...since I'm a white vampire, sometimes it's nice to have a little color. I use Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Makeup (in Medium) It's just makeup for your legs (arms, bust, whatever you need)....but it looks much more like a real tan to me. It sets up well and doesn't get on your clothes. (If I wear white, I do dust it with a little translucent powder, but i'm not sure it's necessary) You can swim in it for an hour or two. It scubs off with warm water, soap and a washcloth...but you do have to scrub a little. I actually like wearing sleeveless again cause of this stuff. It really does look nice on legs. Another cool thing about Leg makeup...it reduces the look of scars, freckles, stretchmarks, veins Being opaque, I bet it's a decent sunscreen, too.

Nutritionist was NO help at all

Yes she is not listening to you, I would try to get another one. I don’t think mine is terribly bright either, but it also their education and training is out of date. I do think you need to follow the guidelines as far as water goes. The #1 cause of re-hospitalization is dehydration. Maybe you could just drink an ounce of liquid every 10 minutes and that will help you tolerate it better. I wouldn’t worry about loosing to much weight, it’s normal, it’s also normal that you will gain some back after a year or two, so just let it happen. As far as dairy goes our bodies don’t really need dairy, but you do need the protein it provides. Have you tried ISOPURE PROTEIN POWDER (0 carbs)? You can put it on or in anything, one scoop is 29 grams of protein, you can spread out through the day. Even if you just sprinkle some on whatever your eating will give you extra protein. I have problems with constipation too and it is perfectly safe to put MiraLAX in some water everyday which will eventually keep things moving.

    Still a slow loser

I feel your pain. i think i just need to look at each pound as a big thing. I was once 312 pounds, I lost over 85 pounds over a few years. then I just stalled. I had surgery in March ended up with a sleeve per say- dropped the initial 30 pounds and here I am a 1/2 pound a week maybe for the last two months.??? come on, I dont eat much. I puke over any weird thing and my skin looks like a deflated elephant... not feeling it either. So perhaps my rant was just that - no real good advice here just know others are in the same boat?

    Lost my bum

I never had much of a butt, it was always flat. At my heaviest, I had an extra "shelf" on top of my butt. The shelf is gone 😊 but I have also lost weight out of my butt. Now any pants I buy sag on the rear and thigh. The butt pain is REAL. I'm not sure if it is being caused by a bony butt or extra skin (although I don't think there is all that much extra butt skin). A cushion helps but does not eliminate the pain. My boobs are gone. I've had them from young on, even before becoming morbidly obese. What is left has migrated to the Deep South 😪 It's way too soon for plastics for me.

    Lost my bum

Well, after the weight loss, I now have TWO butts! (Or is it four?) LOL I have my regular flat bum, and then a secondary one that formed just below it, comprised of the excess skin that droops down. When I lay on my back, this lovely skin morphs into my secondary hips. 😂😂😂😂 I’ve contemplated getting it adressed by plastics, but I’m no longer interested as it doesn’t bother me as much anymore. (thiugh this may change in the future, who knows…i’ve seen many a lovely post-plastics a$$es that make me get bum-envy sometimes!)

    Lost my bum

I always had a butt. When I was in my 20’s and normal weight (150), I actually had a guy, at a club, tell me I had a big butt. It was acknowledged all around that I had a moderately big butt. I figured I would still have a butt after WLS, but I was wrong. 😭 It is gone. I do resistance training specifically to to strengthen, shape, and increase size of said butt, and I think it has helped. I has plastic surgery a month ago including a belt lipectomy in order to get rid of the loose skin on my butt (it was super uncomfortable to sit on). I now have a 20-something year old, tiny butt😂 The struggle is real. I also lost of of my breasts, going from a 40DD to a 34A. My recent plastic surgery fixed that though, with lift and augmentation. Yay for plastic surgery! Below is my post-plastic surgery butt. I have found it looks best in cheeky bikini bottoms, as the lower part of my butt is the only part with ANY shape. Also shown is my pre-plastics butt, complete with sagging skin. 🤦🏼‍♀️

    Still a slow loser

First of all... YOU LOST 90 POUNDS! That's amazing! Anybody would consider that a fantastic accomplishment, so celebrate that! Secondly, you don't show your starting weight or current weight on your stats, but if you started with a lower BMI -- say, around 40 -- you're not going to lose as quickly as someone with a really high BMI (I started with a BMI over 60!). And the closer you get to a normal BMI, the more your weight loss will slow down. Finally, there are a lot of factors that can affect your rate of weight loss, some of which are completely beyond your control, so just because you're not losing as quickly as you'd like doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong or need to change anything, or that you won't get there eventually. I initially felt like I was losing slowly because I was comparing myself to other people, but looking back, I'm amazed by how much weight I lost in less than a year. We're all in a hurry to lose that weight, but once you get to your goal, it doesn't really matter how long it took to get there. Plus, some people say that losing slowly results in less loose skin, so it could actually be a benefit.
