    Spastic Diaphram

I agree with Lissa that luke warm or room temp is better than cold. Everyone is different. Warm chicken broth is like heaven! For me getting the acid under control is helping the spasms but probably as much as that time and healing from the trama of this surgery is making things a little better everyday. Now if I can just get in enough calories to stop the dizzy spells and overall weakness from not enough calories for so long I'll be even happier. I'd like to get in at least 500 calories today.

    Driving myself crazy......

I think it sounds like too few calories. Your body will think it's not getting enough and it might backfire on you. How long ago were you banded? I think after two or three weeks after I was banded (09/08/10), I started trying different foods. I've not had a problem eating anything, I just make sure I chew whatever it is I am eating, really well and it seems to work. Good luck to you.

Help Me Move Past This Weight Plateau !

How long have you been "stuck" at this weight? Stalls are completely normal. Do you know your daily caloric intake? Chances are that your body is just adjustng to the weight already lost, and you will start losing again soon. BTW, be careful with the Chike, it is good, but it is not a Protein supplement. It is a high protien Meal Replacement. It has more calories than your protien supplements do.
  4. My NUT and doctor say that it's important to maintain about 1000-1200 calories a day to ensure healthy weight loss. Now, I'm only 6 weeks out and it's hard for me to get more than 900 (that's only on days when I have 2 Protein shakes, other days I'm around 750), but that's the goal at my doctor's office.
  5. At six months out, I increased my daily calories from 900 to 1200 per day. I was only eating 2 meals previously, since I hadn't found anyting I could eat in the morning without feeling queasy. Now I've added Greek yogurt & fruit for Breakfast, and an ounce of nuts on my way home from work in the evening. I also have a few Triscuits with a light Lauging Cow in the evening for a snack. Oddly, my weight loss has accelerated. I had been losing about 1 pound per week, but now it's closer to 1 3/4 pound. I've only been doing this for 2 weeks. I also started increasing my Fiber intake (with Fiber Choice) but I have not changed my exercise routine or general activity level at all. I certainly feel more satiated. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

    Driving myself crazy......

WOW! 600 is LOW! I have a quick, easy, kill-the-sweet-tooth-craving favorite that is only 50 calories, low carb/low fat. Scoop out 1/3 of a small can of pumkin (not pumpkin pie filling), mix in Pumpkin Pie Spice seasoning (it has nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon ...) and Splenda to taste. It tastes EXACTLY like pumpkin pie with no crust and pumpkin is a healthy vegetable to boot!
  7. I haven't tried the K20, but if you are looking for a real bang for your protein buck, Worldwide Protein Shakes are great. They have 35g of protein, 1g sugar, 3g carbs, 1g fat (0.5g sat/fat)and 160 to 170 calories. It comes in Chocolate Cream, Vanilla Cream, Strawberry Cream, Banana Cream, and Cookies 'n Cream (tastes like Oreos). They are sold in Vitamin Shoppe for $2.75 individually and $27.99 for a 12 pack which is about $2.33 each. Worldwide calls it a protein supplement, and says not for use in weight reduction, but I have been drinking them for over a year (I saw a link here once to Brigham Womens Hospital Bariatric Program, and these shakes were on their list of protein drinks for patients). They also come in 29g drinks but I have only seen them at Trader Joe in Vanilla and Chocolate. They were $1.69, and the Vanilla and Chocolate 35's were $2.29. GNC has the 35s in Vanilla and Chocolate but they are $2.99 a can. Vitamin Shoppe (and GNC) also sell them online and sometimes you can get a free shipping deal depending on how much you buy. I really like them.

When does it start to work??

My diet verys greatly. Recently i have decided to throw a day of liquids in a week to confuss my body tho. I try to keep my calories between 800-1300. Some days i eat a lean pocket for breakfast a cheap microwave meal from walmart and then some kind of baked meat with lots of veggies for dinner. My diet really does very i eat most normal things i just really try to limit what i eat. Now don't get me wrong im not out there eating cake and crap i mean every once in a while is fine but not like once a week is probably to much. i hope that helps. Also morning star makes lots of really good healthy options of some good foods like veggie sausage which taste like real sausage and corn dogs and chicken pattys so you might want to look into that.
  9. OK Gilliebean so I'm impressed with your weightloss as well. I just saw doc for 1st visit after being banded on 5-8-08 and I've lost 13lbs. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks. I had los 18 but guess once I started to get in all my fluid some came back. I've just started to mix in real food with my soft food and am at a loss as to what to do. My doc said aim for 1000 calories a day. Problem is I don't know 1000 of what. Can you give us a typical day of what you eat. I'm really looking for someone to tell me what they eat each day to loose the kinda weight your loosing. Thanks much will really help a few of us I think. Congrats again on your progress, keep it up!!!
  10. I'm not a fan of HCG, so I'll just leave my opinion at that. IF you choose to continue your liquid extreme low-calorie diet (which is beyond extreme for your current size), your body is going to react in a not so pleasant way. You still need nutrition that you can't get from a vitamin. Broth has very little nutrition. At least you are doing the protein shakes, so I'll give you that. Please consider some other foods that are on your approved list that won't add a lot of calories or fat but still give you some nutrition. I average 700-800 calories in the early stages (and still 2 years later), and I lost quickly. (I also lost half my hair!)

    Damn

i went grocery shopping yesterday and was buying all healthy stuff and bought something called south beach diet and it said high protein 250 calories after i ate it out of curiosity i looked at the nutrition information and found that ya 250 calories good protein but then noticed 30% dv sodium and 27% dv sat fat im a lil pissed i ate it under the presumption i was eating healthy was it my fault for not looking carefully at nutrition fact and just looking at front of the box or is it companies that stress the few good things and hide the bad

    First fill *ouch*

Wheetsin- So sorry the fill wasn't smooth sailing. The first one was the hardest for me...I think because the area is still a little tender. Also, as you lose more weight, the port isn't quite as 'deep' and takes less effort to feel/find. My body since day one has been the type that loses a large amount of weight quickly (10-15 pounds in 2 weeks) then goes into shock and plateaus for 2-3 weeks. It's been that way since my first month of banding. It's hard, but stay positive through the plateau. Try to make sure you are still getting the 60 gms protein/day, regardless of whether or not you are hungry. That is key to breaking through the plateau and continuing to lose weight on the minimal calories. (I know you already know this stuff:rolleyes: ). I'll be curious to know how you do with your fill. Keep me updated, and keep up the awesome work girl!!!! Love ya, Robyn
  13. Stalls are a part of the process and they will happen regularly. It is your body needing time to adjust. If you stay the course everything should be fine as long as you have been sticking to the plan. I know that at 4 months post op i hit my worst stall and that actually required me to eat more an excercise less. (Beleive it or not) I was stalled for a month. As soon as I added more calories and reduced from an hour of cardio a day to 30 minutes my stall broke and i continued to lose with shorter stalls in between. I finished losing at 18 months post op.
  14. Hey Slimmy, I've been off the boards for a while, but I had my band 2 1/2 years ago. I've lost 145 lbs and am about 20 lbs from goal, although I'm pretty darn happy where I'm at. Being as far out as I am I can eat anything I want and can eat too much as well (I could get my band tightened but I get acid reflux if I go any tighter than 2.5 CC's in my 4 CC bnad). For me, the key to not gaining weight is keeping a food journal. I have an App on my phone which adds everything up and calculates exercise calories burned as well. One thing to note, I only weigh once a week because I get obsessed with my weight pretty easily. Your weight fluctuates daily naturally and so weighing daily can cause distress that isn't needed. Not everyone has this problem, but if you are weighing daily please watch yourself :scared2: ~Lori
  15. I feel your pain on the wine thing. I am a home brewer (beer). My friends, my social life, everything has been brewing and beer. Beer club meetings where we all share our latest creations, brew fests, micro breweries, this was what I did when I took a night off from being a mom. The day I found out I was approved was a Friday. We got a sitter, and all my friends and I went to a beer bar where I said goodbye to all my favorites ... I explained to my Maharajah IPA(my favorite beer) it was not him, it was me ... and had one last glass. And I have not had a beer since. HARD to do. Unfortunately, I have had to separate from spending time with most of my beer buddies as that is just what we did together. Now I work out at least 1/2 an hour every day ... usually more, but that is my minimum. It keeps me motivated to stay away from the no no foods when I just burned off calories. I do not enjoy working out. I do not enjoy giving up beer. I miss laughing with my friends while tasting an awesome new release beer. On the flip side ... I have lost 40 lbs in less than 3 months!!! My first fill was 10 days ago, I had no restriction before, and almost none now. I eat three times a day. 4 oz of Protein, 1/2 - 3/4 cups of veggies with every meal. I even puree spinach, bell pepper, and fresh basil into my eggs before I scramble them in the morning so it will make a bigger portion until my fill. For me, this was a life changing decision and I am in 100%. The thing that helps me stay on track with not drinking alcohol or eating the wrong foods is journaling. I journal on line, enter every bite of food i eat. I have been at 800 calories a day since two weeks prior to surgery. 800 is ot a lot of food (tons of veggies help). I'll be damned if I'm going to have a couple of drinks and blow a third of my calories for the day doing so. Butter, yea friggen right! I would NEVER waste those calories on a full fat condiment either. Start journaling, every bite. It is totally what keeps me on track. If it's truly what you want, to lose the weight, make the decision. Best of luck!

How do you recover from really tough workouts?

Those are great suggestions! You may also need a few extra complex carbs. You burned off a lot of calories (energy units) and your body needs to replace the energy it expended. You have to replace what your body lost so it can get back to its balance point.

How do you recover from really tough workouts?

So it's 7pm here and I have logged 1000 calories today so far. I don't think I've broken 1000 calories since I was sleeved in January, and I'm pretty sure I'm still going to have a few bites more later. I know my body needs the nourishment but I can't help feeling guilty for eating this much, even though pre-sleeve I often had more by 9am and never worked out.

    Feeling out of control

Oh waterlily you are doing a great job you can do it. Sf pudding, fudgesicles and popsicles can take the edge off sometimes until you figure out what to eat. It is not easy. Potato soup was my favorite during the mushies. Hey try a baked tortilla chip with fat free sour cream or salsa. They go down well and less calories then the doritos. Keep up the good work!!!

    Food Diary Time

I write down EVERYHTING I put in my mouth. I like the online tracker method myself because when you select a food, it automatically enters your calories. Foods you don't find you can enter as a custom food once, and it will forever be in there for you to select again. I even entered a custom food called "random calories" on mine, so if I take a bit of something, I account for it. I helps me make better choices like weather or not I really need the dressing on my grilled chicken. Full fat cheese is a big fat waste of calories to me now too. It's right in your face when you journal it. For me, it's one of the most important parts of me staying on track.

    Food Diary Time

Since the day I was banded, I have been journaling. I do it the old fashioned way, with a pen and notebook. I write down what I ate, calories, grams of protien, what time I finished (helps for drinking and the 30 minute rule) and to gauge times between eating! I also mark Vitamins taking, cause I tend to forget, and minutes exercised! It really does keep everything in check, and becomes second nature after a while....if your working and don't really want people to know, just carry a small note pad in your purse, and transfer it when you get home. It really is a great way to keep track of your journey! I also write my beg. weight , todays weight, pounds lost, pounds to go, and goal. Good luck, and what ever way you do it, computer or notebook it will benifit you!

    2 Months And Frustrated

Finally a club I can join!! My calories are 59 to 250 and 20 grams of Protein. I can't even exercise until I get my food up. My nutritionist begged me to eat a few Cheetos - crazy right? I get super full really fast and it stays that way all day. Even worse with Water - everyday I'm 1 drink away from dehydration. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    Results Or Consistency!!!

I would say consistency! Results yes we all want them and strive for them but to maintain the results you must develop consistency with your eating and your life. I tell myself daily, this is your life, your not on a diet, you can have what ever you want to eat but with poor choices there are consequences. At two years post op I am still very OCD, I weigh myself daily, I still record my food daily (MFP), I still count calories and I still weigh my food. I want consistency because I do not want to be another one of those people who had WLS and failed. I am working on the whole me and trying to hard wire healthy behaviors. Great post andtimelyy with Thanksgiving around the corner this week.
  23. If you're already doing your card, why not kick it up a notch and do intervals where you change your speed and intensity. I love it and it burns more calories in 20 minutes than steady state card. Google HIIT. and remember it's all according to your intesity level...I use a heart rate monitor to help me know if I'm working hard enough

    Trying to figure it out

in my opinion, and from what my nutritionist told me, eating too few calories per day will put your body into starvation mode. Sounds like you're doing great on the exercise kudos to you girl! I added sushi to my diet to help me get in more protein yum yum yum lol. don't be so hard on yourself sweetheart you're beautiful keep it up!
