Update: I was started on Victoza and, three months to the day, my a1c was down from 11.4 to 7.4! It's really nice to have normal daily readings again too. Best of all, surgery has been rescheduled to 8/17!! I'm so excited to see this journey through. Began 10/16, Approved 03/17, Canceled 04/17 bc of high BSG, now bypass pending 07/17

I will talk to you, I'm 8 months out now and I remember the roller coaster you are on! It gets better it just takes some time. You are doing fabulous! You are looking fabulous! Unfortunately your husband maybe feeling insecure, I don't know bc you didn't say. Everyone handles it differently -
That's great! Yes I am going through Kaiser in Orange. They told me the 12 week classes start the first week of every month and I was hoping to start them in the beginning of August but she said I prob won't make that one bc I need to do my labs, ekg and consultation first. Did they have any earlier appointments for your consultation or was that the earliest?

Menstrual cycle changes
TooneyNinosMom replied to Newbeva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have Mirena but I do have the one in the arm. I hadn't had a period in a while which is an advantage to the BC in the arm. But I got my period 2 days post op, last 7 days. Then at 2 weeks post up it came again and was very heavy. I was thinking it was because of all the body changes and of course stress. -
Hi Stephen2 Thank you so much! My only struggle was that, my doctor had me do the pre shrunk liver diet 10 days pre op. When the time came post op and, really needed to drinks strictly liquids, I was already burnt out and didn't really care for the sight of broths or the protein drinks. I pushed through for the remaining days and, now I'm in the puréed phase. Honestly, the only puréed things I've have is: I let oatmeal overboil, to get extremely the, put vanilla protein shake in it. I did the same with cereal(let it sit). Mostly I've just been trying to get my protein in through liquids. I'm still trying to understand what that "full feeling" is. Is it the pressure I feel? If so, I usually don't take anymore than two bites just in case bc I'm unsure. My first 2 wk follow up isn't until week after next so, I plan on asking. Stay strong Stephen! We're all in this together. It can only get better! Thanks for the advice

So, we went to dinner for my hubby's birthday last night. I ordered a lemonade bc I was dying for a drink south some flavor instead of always water. Not thinking, I drank it quite quickly and easily through the straw. Didn't even phase me until today that I used a straw. I was told its a no no bc it will make you swallow too much air and cause you discomfort. Honestly it seemed to go down easier and may even make it easier to reach my fluid goal. Are there other reasons I can't use a straw? Does anyone else use a straw?

Why do we fall off the wagon? & How to get back on?
Berry78 replied to bostonmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If we are to believe the set-point theory, then this is true pre-op. It SHOULDN'T be true post-op, if the surgery does, indeed, reset our set-points, as seems to be the case with the rats. You've read the study on bariatric rats, right? Obese rats have the surgery, lose to normal weights (on a restricted diet), then when fed free-choice again, they maintain their losses, and continue being normal rats. The difference between rats and people is the rats don't have emotional issues or head hunger. They eat when they're hungry (and they were fed healthy rat-chow, not doughnuts!), stop when they're full. Our new set points may not be "normal weight". There is good reason to believe it is something higher than that (like retaining 30% of excess weight). But the losses to that point should be relatively easy and straightforward, and relatively easily maintained. We just have to eat like the rats. -
I don't think it is moving too fast either. That is pretty much expected behavior from a man that is seriously trying to court you. Men ask you on casual dates when they are trying to be casual. I have certain expectations on how I want to be treated and I expect a man to meet those expectations. I feel like if you ask someone out and they don't want to do that kind of date, then they are not the person for you. People should date like minded compatible people. The issue is, no one courts or dates like civilized people anymore. I am not with that Netflix and chill or sit in Starbucks like it is the library BS. Back to OP. Dating is a numbers game, you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince. If you are serious about dating you need to date 2 to 3 guys at a time and let the best man win. Dating one guy at a time is a huge waste for a lot of reasons. I always think after WLS we blame a lot of issues on WLS, when really it is just hard to find someone period.

How does this process continue, and what should i be expecting. With Sutter , in Sacramento CA T.I.A -

It sounds like you may have a lot of processed foods in your diet - shakes, sausage, ham and cheese are all processed. At this point you have nothing to lose from experimenting, but I find not all proteins are created equal. I avoid processed meats. And, at least for me, I tend to retain weight when I eat processed foods. I would also recommend that you change up your proteins - do fresh tuna, salmon, pork, chicken, try a vegan day once a week with tofu or beans, etc. For the animal proteins spend your money on the best choices (organic, grass fed, no antibiotics, no hormones - as good as you can get it). It's not like you are eating a lot anyway. In the past on diets I have found that if I eat the same thing every day and the same number of calories every day, I loose slower. So I try to change up my calories and proteins, even though what is easiest is to do the same thing and get in a routine. You may also want to experiment with fats - good fats like avocado, EVOO, etc. and see what happens.

Let's Get it Started, July 2017 Sleevers!
sacsa97 replied to Redo2017's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Day 6 of Post Op!! My mom left on Saturday night but luckily now I can get out of bed by myself and sit on the toilet with no help! Yesterday was a hard day getting in my liquids (33oz total) I think Sasha (my sleeve) is not a fan of milk products Bc eating yogurt, cottage cheese, milk muscle or premier protein is really hard and it causes a lot of Burping. Today I've been focusing on zipping some water every 15mins! As for pain...still present but not debilitating. I hope all the post-ops are feeling better today! And preops good luck! -
24 weeks pregnant and losing weight.
Livi_sleeved posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi everyone, 6 months after having gastric sleeve surgery I became pregnant. Everything was going good. At my 22 week appointment, I was told that baby was measuring 1 week behind but not to worry. They recommended I gain about 9 pounds in the second trimester and at that time I gained 8, which they said was fine. On week 23, I started to get heartburn. I guess bc she's getting higher up. With that I've been feeling a little apprehensive about eating as much as I was. My sleeve also seems a bit more restricted. I weighed 226 on the first day of my pregnancy appointment. At my last appointment I was 235. Now I'm back at 230. She's supposed to be gaining a half a pound a week and I've lost 2 pounds in a day. I'm not sure what to do. I should mention that I do take heartburn meds now but I'm still losing. -
I am 6 wks post op and was cleats to start a regular diet. My nutritionist said try to have protein shakes bc they go through you more quickly. I didn't think you ask at my appt. Does anyone eat protein bars to get more protein or are they just too filling this early on?

Let's Get it Started, July 2017 Sleevers!
sacsa97 replied to Redo2017's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, had my surgery on the 12th. Pain comes and goes, I've been burping a lot, focusing on walking and water intake. My mom is staying with me until tomorrow. I still have trouble getting up from bed and standing up. As for food: water, pedialyte, bone broth and chicken broth. Not hungry yet, mainly Bc the pain is all I'm focusing on, currently my pain level is between a 3-6. -
Flying after surgery???
Denice66 replied to blerdymermaid's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could always have you Mother ship your case in a box by ups or fed ex to your home then you can open the box and luggage to take your clothes out one at a time so your not lifting a full box or small suitcase. -
Congrats!!! I know how happy you must be with those numbers. I can't wait to have my A1C tested in November. I am off all of my meds and my bs are normal now.

Let's Get it Started, July 2017 Sleevers!
fillje1 replied to Redo2017's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm getting pretty nervous wondering if surgery is the right path for me. On one side, the program has helped me loose almost 25 lbs on my own bringing me down to 227.6 and I feel like I can keep going and loose the weight. On the other side, I've done this before, lost a lot of weight and put it right back on. The sleeve will help me regulate and keep it off. I've always struggled with feeding myself and I think I'm more nervous about the after care (adjusting eating habits and such). I'm going for my final pre-op appointment before my surgery on the 17th (my date got pushed back a week bc I messed up some meds). Just throwing this out there, thanks! -
surgeon postponed my procedureHello everyone. I had surgery scheduled for July 25th but due to my weight gain(yeah yeah, I know spare me the lecture please !) the surgeon does not feel comfortable going forward with the original date. So yeah, I know
hmills653 replied to dumplingtype's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry but I believe everything happens for a reason. When you do have surgery you'll be better prepared. My surgery was pushed back a whole month bc my surgeon took the month of April off. -
No water 13 hours pre op??
ProudGrammy replied to Joe's wife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@KateBruin the above is good enough reason for me(reducing complications by not drinking) like you said " They do emergency surgeries on people who just ate or drank." it's true - they have no choice -don't think it's a little BS being told not to drink prior to surgery - unless BS stands for "be safe" good luck for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life @Joe's wife you are right many OP/insurance co. consider WLS elective - it most definitely is not!! i never "elected" to gain and gain weight, then lose the lbs" - but be unable to keep the weight off good vibes being sent to your DH (you too of course)! speedy recovery kathy -
Just had sleeve and feel like I can't put up with husbands bs anymore
missnoregrets posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey all I just had my sleeve done last Wednesday and all went well . I have only returned home and hubby isn't being that nice to me ! We have had our problems in the past but had some marriage counselling and all was seeming well but now I have come home to Recuperate and he is being antagonistic ! I can't stand to be in the same room as him or even look at him ! I feel like I have changed ? Is this normal at all ? Has anyone else experienced this feeling post surgery to their other half ? Or maybe it's me just being stupid ? I do feel a bit down and also feel like I can't drink much and am having issues keeping my protein intake up . Any advice appreciated -
No water 13 hours pre op??
KateBruin replied to Joe's wife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry, plus I'll also add I think it's all a little BS. They do emergency surgeries on people who just ate and drank. It's just to reduce complications since it's elective and planned -
One week and nothing like sitting on the toilet drinking milk of mag and googling what else you can do bc you've never felt this uncomfortable. I still take 2 generic colace every day. I have been pretty regular but have lose stills about twice a week. I figure until I'm more regular with eating and getting enough fluids I don't want to be constipated again. I also keep an enema in the cupboard just in case.
