One week post op-is this normal?
Allie589 replied to Allie589's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm having another rough day. Still on full liquids and still drinking all the same things but major stomach cramping and running to the bathroom. I haven't even had my vitamin yet bc I'm so sick of it making me nauseated so that didn't cause it. I'm mostly irritated that I'm trying so hard to get my water in and then this happens. At least I was home when it hit. Ugh. -
Stalls, stalls, stalls
Berry78 replied to bcl1628's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Even though we frequently hear people say that the weight will come off regardless of what you do, it's not really true. If you are consuming 2000+ calories, you won't experience much, if any loss. Most of us just can't consume that many. We don't need to do MUCH, but we do need to eat fewer calories. @Goggyween was essentially force-fed calories. Hopefully Goggy can weigh in here.. -
The Truth about Weight Loss Agents...
Sleeveguy replied to anonymousfact's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
This is total BS. I was at Weight loss agents, used Dr. Almonza and had the surgery. I've lost 130 lbs and counting 9 months after sleeve surgery. they were completely professional. State of the art technology and very careful to make sure my needs were met before they let me leave. The pre surgery and post follow-up was excellent and I highly recommend them. This testimonial is obviously fake made by a competitor. Shameful that some people have to try and get ahead by tearing someone else down. -

I'm so with you on food as a drug of choice, or for me, a coping mechanism for everything from stress to boredom to a companion to watching TV. I'm one week post op and though I cannot eat bc of healing, my head hunger and desire to just munch is insane. I too need to do lots of work on that and am seeing a therapist and even considering hypnotherapy. In terms of the bypass vs sleeve, my surgeon told me that the bypass is being fazed out bc of long term health issues from the malabsorption and not a good choice for those of us wanting to get pregnant. I will say also that we have several family friends who have had the bypass over the years and some of them have gained a significant amount of weight back too. I think with either choice we are going to have to do our part in fighting our food demons. It's seriously the hardest thing I have had to face. I'm there with you! 5'7 HW 256 SW 248 CW ? Supporting a partner after the operation
MowryRocks replied to Hislassie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For me it was about being as normal as possible. I never had mood swings. One thing that you can do that was a huge help to me was just understanding that life is different in some ways. Sometimes in the beginning, we overthink, and over-complicate things...just be patient. If we were out and about, I would carry a cooler pack that had food and drink options for me in case we were in a position that we were out and I needed to push protein or felt hungry. (They told me I wouldn't feel hunger. I call BS on this, I have felt hunger since 2 weeks out.) Let your partner guide the recovery. Just being supportive may be all it amounts too. I never had a breakdown over food or anything. Just prepare yourself for the life that is going to be coming. In less than a year, I have changed from bump on a log status to go go go go go. It's a wild, amazing ride. Try to enjoy it together, -
Isopure Unflavored Protein
FluffyChix replied to biancan2ckyw's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks girl! From this list, it doesn't look like any of the RTD drinks are gonna be any good from my perspective. The only one that would work is Skinny Girl and the reviews on it suck. The sodium is crazy high and it only has about 16g protein/11fl.oz.. I'm major bummed right now. All the others have soy (which I can't have cuz of hormone + BC), or are too high carb/sugar. Like maybe in mourning over it...le sigh. -
The good, bad and the ugly. CARBS!
FluffyChix replied to heycrystal2052's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
*newbie disclaimer* This is so true for me. I try to stay somewhere between 15-30g net carbs per day. I try to keep it loose so I don't get overly restrictive--and the daily carb count fluctuates greatly depending on appetite. The type of carb matters hugely to me. Most of my carbs come from low glycemic veggies and a tiny bit of dark berries (1oz servings), some nuts, some dairy, some eggs. I have to get that fiber from veggies and nuts/seeds in or suffer with constipation--no matter how much magnesium I shove down my gullet. I can eat 32g of net carbs from leafy greens, and low carb veg and still lose even though I'm a little over my target. But, if I took in 32g of net carbs from Triscuits, pasta, potatoes, winter squash, bread/toast, etc, I will be screamin' hungry and will have huge issues controlling my craving for more, more, MORE--plus, I will gain weight overnight--about 2-4lbs of fluid! (On fat, I generally want the best type possible including full fat dairy. But since I've been trying to fit a certain low calorie spectrum, I switched to some strategic reduced fat dairy...but I'm very particular about it. Fats for me include: some small amount of animal fat like grass fed butter, lard and tallow, but mostly extra virgin olive oil, avocado, nut oil for dressings, nuts and seeds and as my cals can go higher will include full fat dairy like small amounts of raw cheeses and sour cream/Greek yogurt. I don't eat a whole lot of dairy though cuz it is very insulinogenic and has more hormones than other protein/fat sources and with a hormone positive breast cancer history, that's not so good.) -
Smoked weed yesterday and my surgery is friday!
Changing4TheBetter replied to torriqurll's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well let me comment on how I feel! Cigarettes are different from weed along with alcohol. No place in anything that I have read you cant smoke weed. Unless you are her nurse or doctor STOP BEING HER JUDGE AND JURY! If you didnt have **** to say but bs then you need to keep **** to yourself. Things you missed in elementary school+ -
I had my teen girls. But I was pretty good afterward. I just had gas pain and to sore to bend over. I'd say buy yourself some bottled water just in case also bc since surgery I can taste the chemicals more in my tap water and drink mostly bottled water now. If you tell your nurse that you'll be home alone maybe they can call and check in on you each day for a few days.

we are all familiar with prepared meal delivery services like Blue Apron, Plated, Peached Dish, etc. but this one seems to take the cake in terms of optimally healthy, whole-food, paleo/keto food. it's called Factor 75. https://www.factor75.com/nutrition anyone try this yet? i know all of these services are pretty expensive, but for us bariatric patients with smaller eating capacities, i bet one meal could serve as two (lunch and dinner). the meals seem to be about 400-500 calories each and have the ideal macronutrient ratio. everything is grass-fed, local, organic. seems like the perfect solution for single (or married) folk who haven't the time to shop or the skill to cook.

THE BIG NO NO's of what never to eat or drink after the sleeve.
hmills653 replied to 2017Warrior's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to avoid it until I got my fluid goal bc it could dehydrate you. I haven't had coffee or any caffeine since before surgery which was may 31. I actually don't miss it. I thought I would but I have a ton of energy. -
No weight loss first week??
JoyandLight replied to dayoneyearone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my one week follow-up, I had lost 4 lbs. I'd been eating maybe 500 cals a day, feeling like crap, scared of failing, etc. I was very upset. My PA was with wonderful. She said it is the fluids they pump you with in the hospital, and everything around the site being swollen. She said to only weigh once a week, skip it when expecting period, and do not become obsessed with it; rely more on how clothes are fitting and measurements, bc weight can fluctuate so much. As long as it is going the right direction, it is good. She also told me not to go on these sites (weight loss surgery) because everyone's journey is different, dont compare yourself to others. Of course, here I am! But her words really helped. -
Gym or no gym, that is the question
hmills653 replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I can say when I did work out, I eat better bc I don't want to "ruin" what I just busted my @ss for at the gym. It's like no way. I'll eat something healthy, lol. -
96 pounds down in three months
NuNu2005 replied to LifeIsAllGood's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
There was a chick on the 600 lb Life thread trolling me. She said people are fat because they're lazy, yet she got fat. When I called her on her bs she and some weirdo started trying to backtrack and deny it. Then they said they were going to ignore me but kept talking about me expecting me not to reply...Losing weight is hard enough without that kinda crap -

I'm on the losers bench yay!!!
Allie589 replied to lindabalseca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on the 7th and had a massive hernia repaired too. I was so nauseous day one in the hospital that I could barely walk. I'm now 6 days out and off my percoset (crushing it and trying to get it down was soooo horrible), and just trying to get my liquids in. The main reason I went off the pain meds is bc they would zonk me out and I'd sleep for hours instead of being awake and sipping fluids all day. I had a nonfat Greek yogurt yesterday with granulated monk fruit sweeter and that went down well. I too feel some pressure from liquids and then get odd sounds. I think a lot of us have trapped gas too. I've had some relief with gas x dissolvable strips. -
Reaction to my whey powder? Best other protein?
GotProlactinoma posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm three weeks out. My main proteins are grass fed organic whey powder (no sugar no flavor) mixed with milk or water. Two days ago I started getting a dizzy nausea bad vision shaky feeling after just having a hand ful of sips of my protein drink. Been drinking it exactly the same two or three times a day since just after surgery so this reaction is new. I tested the milk, didn't give me that feeling. Tested the protein powder in water, yesterday, and got that same low blood sugar kind of reaction. Very unpleasant and started to give me the start of a migraine. anyone had this reaction to whey? Also why so out of the blue? AND HOW DO I GET ENOUGH PROTEIN? I have some nasty tasting pea protein, can try it. i also drink bone broth and 1 c has 9 g but I can't drink it all day. I also can eat the Greek yogurt, and mix it in vegetable juice. But not in quantity. I have also tried refried beans with success, but I am talking 1 oz at a time. I can't eat much soft food yet. -
I think this will depend on just how damaged my pancreas is. Diabetes is a progressive disease and most people with type 2 diabetes progress to the point where their pancreas does not produce enough insulin on its own no matter what their diet is. I don't know how long I had diabetes before I was diagnosed, so I had it for at least 4 years and possibly much longer. Everything I have read says that the sooner you have the WLS after being diagnosed the higher the probability that you will stay in remission. I am praying that my decision to go plant based will further help this by eliminating the fat store in my muscles and making them less resistant to insulin. The good news is that WLS has seemingly put it in remission. I haven't seen a bs number over 115 since two days after surgery. My last blood work was in April and my A1C was 6.8. A normal non-diabetic A1C would be 4.5-5.9. When I was eating a normal standard american diet my A1C was 11.2 !!!! My doctor threatened me with insulin shots and that is why I decided to try the low-carb diet back in December 2016. It did work to lower my numbers, but I was still on 2 different medications also. I am nervous about changing my diet because eating low carb has been the only way I have been able to control my bs. However, the research and data are showing me that if I continue to eat a high fat, high protein diet eventually my insulin will run out because that diet requires my pancreas to pump out more insulin. If I am understanding what I am reading correctly, by eating low carb I am kind of artificially lowering my bs, but I haven't cured the real problem which is fat blocking the receptors in my cells. This whole food plant based diet will clean the fat out of my cells and also lower the amount of insulin my pancreas has to produce. I will definitely report my findings. I am excited to try this out and experience all of the other health benefits this type of diet will bring. Sorry for the long post...lol

The fact of less fat in your bloodstream that will have your body processing carbohydrates the right way, this should go VERY well. Also take in the fact that you aren't considered diabetic anymore. Right? Your bs numbers have been great since the weight loss, right? Diabetes, type II is a reversible, curable disease, that's why so many with fat loss get off their meds, etc. So, testing now without diabetes will show different numbers, albeit better, but won't play the same as if you were having high bs and making the switch. I'm still just as curious as you are though.
