    west hartford lap bander

Hi there - I do live in Connecticut - much further south - in Norwalk. I am also relatively new to this - banded on August 16th. I see that Robin was in July, myself in Aug., and Brunswick in September. I, too, am afraid to fail at this. I went in for my first fill last Friday and had only lost 2 lbs. in 3 weeks. I am not getting too concerned, since it is early in the process and I'm still healing and learning. I count calories, protein and try to exercise, so I am surprised that it's not just melting off. Still, 23 lbs. in 1 month is nothing to sneeze at . . . that's better than I've ever done on a traditional diet. Its difficult to be patient . . . but this will be lifelong, so I guess I better get used to it. Lets continue to use the Connecticut board and support one another.
  2. 8wks and up to 800 cal. I understand the too easy...I feel that way too. My calories don't go up again till 6th month. It feels like forever away and I use up my calories pretty easily. Proteins and veggies are my focus. This is not easy! Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App
  3. Anyone find themselves hungry and eating constantly? Like every 2.5 hours? Calories still are only around 800 but it just seems like so much of my day is spent eating. I used to eat a lot at onetime but it was still in only 3 meals a day. This is different. I'm 7 weeks post op.

    Embarrssing Bathroom Issue

I also use milk of magnesia when necessary. I know that since you're freshly post-op you are probably on a liquid diet right now, but I found if I have a 100 calorie bag of popcorn a day, I also go regularly. I do fiber gummies too. I guess I'd rather have constipation issues than fat issues
  5. Here's a sample day for me: Breakfast: 1/2 container nonfat Greek yogurt + 1 TBS almond butter: 155 calories, 12 grams protein Lunch: 1 babybel cheese, 1 prune, 1.25 oz deli sliced roast beef: 110 calories, 14 grams protein Dinner: 1 scrambled egg with sprinkle of cheese + 1oz. grilled salmon, 1/2 oz. roasted edamame: 190 calories, 21 grams protein Snacks: 1 protein shake made with 1/2 scoop Syntrax Nectar powder + 1 cup unsweetened vanilla cashew milk: 80 calories, 12 grams protein. 1 protein shake made with unsweetened vanilla cashew milk + 1 scoop Unjury chocolate splendor: 125 calories, 21 grams protein Totals: 660 calories, 80 grams protein
  6. Here's a question for you guys. I was banded on 6/27 and the dr. has moved me to solid foods. The dietician has me eating about anything reasonable that fits into following range. 1500 calories per day, 53g of fat, <200g carbs 60+g Protein Is this comparable to what everyone else is doing? I should add that I haven't had a fill yet and have no restriction in eating but have stayed within this range sinces it's inception. I treated to my to dinner out and ate the following. 1 taco 1 enchilada refried Beans rice To me this seems like too much but does fit the range as noted above. I would expect that once the ring is filled up I would only eat a quarter of this...at least that's my hope. Thoughts? Suggestions? Does this compare to ya'll?

    Vets/Nuts Please Help

the best thing I can tell you is to track everything you eat. Use Myplate or myfitnesspal. It will give you a solid idea of the number of calories that you are consuming along with carbs and Proteins. What I eat daily is going to be different than what you might need to eat or someone else. Are you seeing your nutritionist? That would be the place I would start first. Everyone on this board does something different and we all think that we are doing the best. You need to figure out the eating plan that works best for your body, the amount of weight you need to lose and your activity level. Once you have that defined then making a meal plan gets a lot easier and tracking keeps you...well on track. Hang in there. (btw, I am not considered a vet on this board...)
  8. Breakfast- boiled egg and coffee Snack- Atkins chocolate shake Lunch- Natures Valley Protein bar Snack- almonds/cashews/slim jim Dinner- chicken breast and veggies Snack- rice cakes/nuts Roughly around 1000 calories with 80 grams of carbs and 60 grams of protein for a day like the one listed above.

    Vets/Nuts Please Help

Not sure if my diet would be considered typical, but here goes (from a non vet): Breakfast: matrix Protein shake with chia seeds and Water Pre exercise snack: 2 energy squares Post exercise snack: Amplified Wheybolic 60 shake with water Lunch: 3-4 ounces of chicken patty, 1-2 ounces of green veggie or red pepper Snack: nu go slim Protein Bar Dinner: 3-4 ounces of protein (chicken or beef), 1-2 ounces of green veggie Snack: matrix shake with water I try and eat Paleo as much as possible with supplementation to achieve higher daily protein amounts. If I exercise in the afternoon, I switch my morning Snacks with afternoon snack. Morning exercise is running and afternoon exercise is cross fit on alternating days. I try and run between 5 k and 10 k as fast as I can, ramping up the incline for more intensity and for burning of more calories (800-1000). I do not know the calories I burn in cross fit, but it is difficult, intense and about an hour long. On weekend, I usually eat out for one lunch and dinner, but still pay close attention to diet to support fitness. I found it helpful to eat as low carb as possible up to month 5 and eat high protein. I could not eat raw veggies so well so did green drinks. This kept insulin levels normalized and prevented much hunger. As my exercise ramped up at month 5, I began to eat more good carbs. I have found it a little difficult to control hunger if I eat too many grams of sugar in the protein bar. I am currently switching from a protein bar with 2 grams refined sugar to a Paleo protein bar with raw honey and more carbs. So far so good, but time will tell how this changes my hunger. I hope it reduces as I will not be eating those 2 grams of refined sugar any longer. I tracked like a fiend for first 3 months and then stopped. I keep it simple, repetitive so no need to track once it became second nature to live the daily life of post op without much random food planning. I really do not like tracking if it requires more than 10-15 minutes in the morning so made a decision to eat in a way that does not require tracking. Eating the same thing every day is not as bad as it seems. I do not need a lot of variety of I finds food that fits the form and taste I require. Hope this helps!

    eating disorders

Just don't continue to be an idiot. Depends on how much you ate? If it was a 16 oz hershey's almond bar kick your own a$$. If it's just a couple of bites walk it off. FYI-I have two hershey's dark chocolate bliss cubes every night. It's like 50 calories? Not going to sweat it. tmf

    Diet plan required please

I know I'm a little late to the game, but if I can jump in... TRACK. Either get myfitnesspal or use a little book and do the calories later. Honestly, it's easier to use paper when you're in the "1 bite" & "2 spoonfuls" stage. Write a meal plan for yourself. "Cereal & fruit" is quite a different nutrient load than "egg, sausage or bacon" which is even more different than "cottage cheese & pineapple". 2 of those 3 meals are loaded with carbs/sugar. It's ok to have cereal & fruit one day if you're protein heavy the rest of the day. Also, take into account how far along you are. OP, at 20 months PO, you should be above 1000 calories, I'd think. Every time I asked my drs how many calories to have they'd say "focus on protein, then veg, don't stuff" and track if I wanted, to see how many calories I was full on. I was around 900 forever, but couldn't hit 1500 until 3 years.

how much should I be eating?

I was banded 9/26 and I am barely now approaching mushy stage. I figured 3 times a day or 6 half portions. Also, I take into consideration the amount of calories my body can take and still be able to lose weight.

how much should I be eating?

I am 4 weeks out and I will have between 1/2 & 1 cup of food per sitting depending on what it is. Do you have a calorie mark that you have to hit? I was given a list of appropriate mushie food and these goals. Calories 800, Fat 22 grams, protien 68 grams. I haven't been able to meet them with what I am eating (I run out of time during the day) but am getting real close. This is my normal day 8oz protien shake 8am 4 oz carb countdown yogurt 10:30ish 1/2 cup tuna w/mayo and 2 saltines 1pm 4 oz applesauce or Jello 4pm 8 oz Soup or 2 oz meat and some vegtables 7pm I sneak in 1 cup of coffee some days and lots of Water everyday (except weekends - I am not on schedule then and do rather poorly at getting half of what I need) I should throw in another protien shake after dinner but I don't usually get hungry before bed (WOW, isn't that a change) Hope this helps,

    Something To Ponder

I have tried, like many others here, so many diets and diet pills that I have truly lost count. I got the band to break the endless unsuccessful dieting cycle I was on. I promised myself that when I got it, I was done counting calories, points, carbs, etc. And, I have lived up to my promise. I do try and make healthier choices and I do exercise. But, I eat what I want, when I want for the most part. My band is doing its job and I am doing my job by listening to it and putting the fork down when I get my full sign (a big hiccup). So far, I have been successful and see no need to change what I am doing.

    Nut butter - peanut

I was allowed peanut butter on a spoon after Day 10, no issues with it. I was cleared for toast (40 calorie light wheat toast) after one month and I have a slice with "Naturally More" PB (PB with added flax and pea protein) for breakfast almost every morning. It settles my iffy morning stomach and keeps me full until lunch. I don't like PB flavored shakes but if I did I would probably use PB2 for that, less calories.
  16. My longest stall was probably about 4-5 weeks so far. I actually don't do anything to try to break a stall, just try to be patient and do the right things in terms of diet, exercise and sleep. I read some articles about the contestants on The Biggest Loser that dissuaded me from the idea of eating ever fewer calories or doing ever more exercise to try to force things. Lost about 65lb so far. Wish it went faster, yes, but I already feel and look so much better, I don't mind the journey.
  17. I started couch to 5k at four weeks post op when I was eating about 500 cal a day. I now eat about 800 (8 mos out) and just completed a triathalon and an training for a half marathon. I run or do yoga daily. I eat more on race days but only about 150-200 calories more. I never struggled energy wise, I figured it was because I had plenty of reserves (fat) to burn, but who knows. We are all different!
  18. My experience is that my 600-800 calorie diet does not support anything intense. I can walk slowly for fifteen minutes or so on grass, but in combiniation with orthopedic issues and a back brace, that is probably pretty good. When I try to get thirty minutes of strength training in, I am wiped out and useless for three days. I am hoping this will get better when I get another forty pounds off and I can go into maintenance. Even at that, I am here because I could not lose weight on 1,000 calories. Sorry if this doesn't help, but at least it validates what you are experiencing yourself.

    First Fill Tommrow

Feeling nervous, about first fill in London Uk tomorrow, although I did have a 4ml fill on surgery day, I did loose a bit of weight, during swelling and liquids, then it stopped, I do not feel any restriction, i can eat a fair amount, I was told not to count calories yet? I don't weigh anything either, do you think I am going wrong in that department, I am now 6wks into my journey. Hope to loose more in the next 6wks.

    Trying to stay positive

Give it time!!! And stay off the scales (once a week only) You will gain and lose depending on the time of day, water retention, etc... Your body is still healing. Slim Sly - You are probably not getting enough calories. 800 is not enough. Once you get your fill, you will have some restricition. Just remember you are responsible for what goes in your mouth and how much you exercise. The band is a tool, it does not do it all. Good Luck, be patient, you will be a loser!!!

    First Fill Tommrow

When you get to proper restriction, you will have an indisputable sense of fullness that supersedes calorie counting. It took me 4 fills to get to that point. Be patient and best wishes.
  22. Sorry but hummus has about 30 calories per tablespoon not 10. I did eat a lot of it early on but had to stop. I was using it to eat raw carrots and I was eating wayyyy to much. Some brands do make individual serving containers which would be perfect. My issue was I was eating directly out of a full sized container.

    Alcohol Intake

so thats a little over twenty shots and 1400 calories....basically ten drinks one night and five the next two....you dont see there is a problem here thats bigger than the both of us? on the weight loss issue alone you are looking at a couple days of calories, but then take into consideration you are drinking twenty drinks over each weekens....
  24. I received a recommendation from my husband's co-worker to come here and I'm finding loads of useful information. I am in the early stages of researching lap-band surgery and have a question regarding if some one should have this surgery or not. As many of you have, I have struggled with my weight most of my life. The only way I've ever been able to control my weight is to be hyper, hyper active (exercising 6 days a week for a couple of hours a day) and really constrict my calorie intake(less than 1000 calories a day). While this kept the weight off, it was just too hard to keep up as I was always exhausted. I won't bore you with all my history because I'm sure you're familar with it. Anyhooo...to my question. I'm 5'5" and about 200lbs. I know I don't have as much to loose as many people do but after struggling with it for so many years I'm about to give up and just not care anymore. I really don't want to do it but I'm at my wits end. Most lapband sites I've looked at say I'm not eligible for the surgery and I'm assuming its because of my height/weight ratio. But does that make sense? Do I have to get out-of-control overweight before I do make use of a tool like the lap-band? I know I'm heading there. I'm 38 yrs old and been fighting this since I was 12. I'm so tired of the fight and I want something that will help me with the control issues I have. Are there any people out there who are like me and had a lapband that can provide any words of of advice?
  25. Ooooo I didn’t add those into my tracker. That will add some calories!!
