  1. @Groovymommy @It's time. @Lily66 and All! How are you feeling today? I'm doing well. Still pretty weak. Each morning now I have the squirts which is kind of a depleting way to start the day. Can't tell if it's the artificial sweetener or maybe the whey protein doing it. So I'm cutting out the AS today and reducing the whey trying to make up for the grams of pro in plain fat free greek yogurt. Getting 48 fluids and 40 pro isn't easy. That's been my goal for weeks 2-4 and I'm not sure I've achieved both in the same day. My incisions are still hurting. Sometimes they ache horribly. Other times it's a dull muscle thing. But, drinking water is easier each day. My vitamins seem to be going down well (a real worry). The family left for a canoe trip and won't be back until late Sunday so all I'm responsible for is myself and the animals. Hoping to get my pro and liquids up and increase my energy. Sleep is a stranger. I get about 2 sessions of 3 hours a night. But better than nothing. Each new food tastes like heaven. Sent my 88 year old dad (who lives 15 minutes away) a Father's Day box of overnighted Lobster rolls and Whoopie pies from Maine. All the fixings. He called and practically begged me to come share them with him. It was so hard to tell him no. I told him I was on a physician directed diet that was very strict. My father is old and set in his ways and does not admire heavy women. So of course he was very supportive of my new "diet". ((eye roll)) But it was hard to say no. I do love a fresh lobster roll. Check in when you have a moment! ONWARD!!

    Hello Everyone

I can sympathize - I did self-pay, and they move faster than insurance pay because there's not so many hoops to jump through. Plus I ended up moving the date sooner by a month and a half after I started hearing coronvirus whispers. I got my surgery less than 2 months after I decided to do it. My advice is to figure out what you're going to eat after the surgery. After the surgery, you're going to be in pain for a couple of weeks, and more tired than usual for 2 weeks to a few months. You won't want to spend too much mental energy on food. So try out some protein drinks/powders, sugar free jello and pudding, sugar free yogurt, broths and soups and stock your pantry. You'll be on a liquid diet for ~2 weeks (depending on your surgeon's diet plan), though most people continue to use protein drinks for quite a while. You'll also need to think about what you'll want to eat during the puree/soft food stages. Look at some bariatric recipes if you're the cooking type. But be warned - many people's tastes change after the surgery. A protein drink you liked before may seem, for example, overly sweet afterwards. So try a variety, and keep them around even if you didn't like them at first, just in case. It's a good time to check your equipment too. You'll need a blender if you use protein powders and mix your own drinks or to puree soups with chunks and other things. And a lot of people like to use mini plates and utensils to help them take smaller bites and feel more satisfied. I also bought a thermos that could keep food warm for a while, so if I cooked something hot, I'd make enough to put aside for another meal later.

    Grocery list

btw - the sugar free fudgesicles are 40 calories each, so if you think you're the type who'll eat half a box at one sitting, then don't get them! I like them, but a box of 20 (or however many are in a box) easily lasts two or three months in my freezer. I just get a taste for chocolate once in awhile and I'll eat one or two of them - tops. sometimes when I crave chocolate, I'll mix a teaspoon or two of unsweetened cocoa powder into a container of Light & Fit Vanilla yogurt. That's still 80 calories (well, maybe 85 with the cocoa), but you get all the protein, too.
  4. Let's make it true. All I can currently think about are those chocolate almond coconut balls sold in bulk at Costco. My brain keeps thinking "Not yet but soon." and I keep saying "mmmm.no. Not so soon." One day at a time is my motto. Happy Graduation to 3 months! I want to speed up time, for sure. Made a smoothie with greek yogurt and half a banana (which is NOT on my ok list but seems to be on other people's) and some unsweetened chocolate Almond milk. It was good and seems to be settling ok even with my Bariatric One a Day multi taken with it. I'm calling this a win!

    Any dense, high protein meals?

Thanks All. I am not a big meat eater - I just don't like most of it. I've been living off of various chicken dishes and greek yogurt, protein shakes, etc... My "go to's" include: Ground chicken, beans, onion and taco seasoning: or sliced chicken breasts, various peppers, onion and fajita seasoning; I also do chicken PIccatta only with almond flour instead of bread crumbs. I'll take a look at the body builder sites and see what I can find. I am doing some carbs but am trying to be careful as I could easily live on nothing but carbs if it was just about taste I will definitely look at the costco chicken skewers! We don't have Albertsons here (we did where I grew up) and my local deli/meat case isn't nearly so nice! I may have to shake up my routine and try some other stores. I will have to try that Turkey strawberry salad. It sounds amazing!!! Thanks again all! Lori

    June 2020 surgeries

One week post Bypass and I'm allowed to add eggs, hummus, cottage cheese, mashed beans and yogurt to my liquids. I ate an egg this morning. It was DELICIOUS. No problem. And I've been queasy in the past. Hope they go well for you!

    Buys at Costco

I don't like flavored yogurt, so I usually buy plain greek yogurt (it is usually either the Kirkland brand or Fage). If I need flavor, I flavor it myself (I like getting the really small frozen blueberries and adding them in frozen - but I wouldn't do that so soon after surgery.)

    Buys at Costco

Awww thank you! What yogurt do you buy? I don’t really know much about the lower fat or low sugar options 😬

5 more days.. 5 more days..

Oh, man! I am supposed to be on liquids for the first two weeks, but their "liquids" include thicker stuff like drinking yogurt and blended soup. Wonder if I would be okay to have something heavier now, like mashed potatoes. Ugh! Just want a taste of something that isn't those two things right now. >.<

    Buys at Costco

How far post-op? First phases: Yogurt, cottage cheese, milk, protein shakes (for me, it was premier protein) Later phases: fish shrimp (shrimp is so good - easy to defrost and you can easily tailor the amount) sargento balanced breaks nut/cheese snack packs string cheese canned veg Tuna frozen fruit Parm chips (sometimes they have single serving bags, sometimes they just have a big bag Veggie burgers
  11. Ah a I hope you get to progress to new foods soon too! What type of protein are you taking? I’m hanging in - wrapping up work to take extended leave. My surgery is Friday. Trying to stay focused on not eating anything solid. My doc has us on clear liquids plus shakes for 2 weeks lost op; then a week of yogurts, then 5 weeks of Mushies. Sigh

Hi all, One week post op! Whoo hoo, I’ve been feeling pretty good. I’m just concerned I’m not getting enough protein in. I’ve been adding protein to my yogurt and pudding to make sure. Other than that, I’m sooo ready for real food! Lol

On a good note - I am one week post op! One more week of liquids and I will be onto soft foods. I am getting real tired of blended soup and drinking yogurt!
  14. How’s everyone feeling today? We’ve got some newly post ops and a couple about to go. @Groovymommy I’m getting excited for you! Today is decidedly better for me. Less soreness. Less queasy. I had some fat free Greek yogurt with a little unsweetened applesauce ( about 3 tablespoons) and my protein broth. My family is currently eating burgers with all the fixings including guacamole and fried eggs, seasoned curly fries and chocolate cake. So I am hiding out in the bedroom. I am determined to not let my choice to do this surgery make them feel guilty for indulging. Those fries smell amazing. But frankly I’m just relieved I think so cuz that is the opposite of nausea. Check in Bypassers! ONWARD!

    Hate bypass

You wanna trade ? lol I haven't tried any of that stuff but I figure if I am dumping on 8 grams of sugar in cereal then I am gonna dump on everything. I am hoping after a few months it will stop. I would like to lose 10 or 15 more lbs and try some braums frozen yogurt twist in a cup.

I'm underweight but can't eat much

@Bastian I hope that things get better for you. That they figure out what is wrong. my life has been endless battles. But we do what we can to get by and sometimes it’s still worth the price we paid. I paid hefty price physically to battle with my weight but I wouldn’t change it. I hope this leaves you no regrets where the path takes you. I find it hard when answers aren’t clear or even there. I didn’t get them myself. I wanted to answer though I’m a tad exhausted. I will say, Not all whey protein is the same, you can have allergic reaction to some not others. Depending how pure they are. The quality I’d say. I had the best results with PEScience select protein powder, although they do make a vegan select. Have you tried mixing protein powder in yogurt, like Ripple brand yogurt that’s non dairy. I don’t do well with dairy but have a little Greek yogurt since it’s protein rich. To get dense protein BariatricPal has excellent protein shots. It very well could be vitamin deficiency and more an overall ill feeling you need higher absorption nutrition until they figure out if it’s mechanical. I highly recommend taking Whole Foods based multivitamin in gummy or liquid form. Because your body utilizes it better than traditional vitamins. most vitamins shoot right through your system especially after bypass. And you went through a lot with yours. I kind of wish they had taken my remnant stomach. I wonder if I feel pain from it but they didn’t see ulcers there. sorry I go off on tangents. I had my gallbladder removed also. I take chewable digestive enzymes that helps. I also read bike salts are beneficial. all the best to you in getting the care you need
  18. 19. I had surgery on 12/31/19 and have done very well. I was very lucky to have an easy recovery, including no physical hunger. Well, I'm 5 1/2 months out now and my hunger has returned - a lot! I'm trying to be sure to eat dense protein at all my meals. My program doesn't like snacking so I'm trying to avoid that but if I am really hungry I'll have some greek yogurt. Does anyone have any advice on good, high protein, dense meals you like? I'm not much of a cook so simple items would be best. Thanks in advance, Lori
  20. I did liquids only for two weeks post OP with the same 2 week pre-OP diet. This included Shakes, Sugar Free or fat free versions of pudding, jello, popsicles, soup broth, gatorade, yogurt, milk. I was never hungry. Now I'm on puree foods including liquid diet items plus eggs, melted cheese or string cheese, mashed potatoes, yogurt, bananas, peanut butter, applesauce, lean ground meats like turkey, and cooked carrots. I'm reluctant to eat because I'm just not hungry, I keep to a schedule and make sure to get all the required protein and fluids. Regarding your question about energy levels, I found only consuming 700 to 1000 calories per day is great for weight loss but tough on keeping up my energy. I am recovering so I rest a lot and deal with feeling a bit weak. I'll change my diet to soft foods this Monday and increase my calorie intake. My most recent surgery was a revision to DS. Keep in mind, the goal is to progress in stages to a reasonable, healthy, and sustainable diet. The liquid or puree diet should be discontinued on schedule as they will not meet your long term nutrition goals. By the soft food stage you should have a plan to get all your protein from real food. Avoid high sugar, fried, processed or refined foods. Avoid caffeinated, carbonated, or high sugar drinks. Consume only limited amounts of bread. Bread should be toasted. Select whole wheat. Protein bars and protein shakes are not real food.
  21. Hi everyone! My nickname is Gata. Im 62 years old and weigh 314 lbs. I’m scheduled for Dswitch on the 16th. All the information I’ve been reading from such sincere hearts is helping me tremendously. To hear some say they’re nervous and excited. Others saying that while waiting nervously they’ve gained weight helps me feel better. I can relate to so many of your comments. My Dr. snapped at me today for gaining 5 lbs (made me feel really bad). I’ve been waiting since January, but what little I lost , came back in no time from the nerves! Anyway, I’m still super excited, I started my liquids today (so far so good). I purchased a variety of fat free cream soups which I added protein powder to. Also purchased jellos and nonfat yogurt and low fat cottage cheese. All recommended by my dietician. I feel a little lost, but I will continue reading. I wasn’t sure wether to let my family know, but your texts have helped me make up my mind not to. Thank you all again for sharing your experiences! Note to self:walk, walk, walk🙂
  22. You can verify if these are on your approved food list: Mashed potatoes Creamy Peanut Butter String cheese Mashed banana Non-Fat yogurt Mashed (soft scrambled) eggs I'm getting protein from these sources and reducing shakes to 0 or 1 per day. I like the shakes, but I feel I'll do better getting protein from natural sources instead of processed foods.
  23. My nutritionist was different because after surgery you have to have 3 meals and 3 snacks if you want to reach your protein goals because your stomach doesn't hold as much so my nutritionist had me get into the habit of 3 meals, 3 snacks. I'll usually have a cheese stick or two as a snack or a fruit cup (in water) or 1/4 cup of nuts or indulge in my chocolate craving and have sugar free pudding, sometimes I'll have a yogurt, or a slice of deli meat, etc. After my surgery I have to get a minimum of 80g of protein a day so I work to get at least 50 on my own and then have 1 30g protein shake to make up the difference.

    Greek yogurt

I like making greek yogurt mousse. One 650 or 750g container (whatever you've got, I know they come in different sizes) mixed with one package of jello sugar free pudding. Makes for a lovely texture and a bit of a decadent treat! :-) Sent from my SM-G950W using BariatricPal mobile app

    Lactose can be your Enemy!

The stomach upset, gas, and bloating are definitely the distinguishing symptoms of a food intolerance! A stall and a few lb gain one week happens to most people around 2-4 months - happened to me. Not very fun, but normal. I would really hate to cut out yogurt and cottage cheese.
