July Surgeries??
starladustangel replied to youthinkimskinnnie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My revision was successful in that they were able to do the bypass and repair the hernia. I am in far more pain and discomfort than with my sleeve. Struggling with fluids because the hernia repair left inflammation in the esophagus. Sugar free Popsicles are the best right now. I have a 100 degree fever and am supposed to call if it hits 101. The gas pain is ridiculous. I have tried the simethicone drops, mylanta and walking. I am using a cane to walk -
What’s your revision story? Was your revision as effective as your first surgery?
Thisisgonnabegreat! posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a successful sleeve surgery five years ago, then had a baby and got stuck in a pandemic. I’ve put on so much weight, but still nowhere near my original starting weight and don’t intend to get back there! I am planning to get a revision surgery, and right now I am most seriously considering the mini gastric bypass. I contacted a couple of doctors and they tried to suggest a sleeve revision, but I can’t find any success stories of people who were re-sleeved and lost substantial quantities of weight. Which got me thinking?… Do any of the revision surgeries produce substantial weight loss? If you have gone from sleeve to the mini gastric bypass or another procedure and have a story to share I would greatly appreciate hearing it. Did your revision successfully eliminate your regain? Did you get lower than you did the first time and your weight loss goals? Were you able to lose all your excess weight on your second time around? Did it work as rapidly as the first one? -
Surgeon recommendations in Tijuana for mini gastric bypass from sleeve
Thisisgonnabegreat! posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had a very successful sleeve surgery five years ago. I was so happy with the results. As I approached 40 I had a surprise pregnancy! As you can imagine this changed my body quite a bit. My child was born right at the cusp of the declaration of the pandemic and I have put on a lot of weight. No matter how I eat, no matter how little I’m eating, my body and hormones seem to want to hold onto the weight. At any rate, being a middle-age woman with a one year old means I need to take Care of my health, and I am seeking to get a revision from the sleeve to a mini gastric bypass. I’ll be paying cash and intending to have my surgery in Tijuana, although if you know someone great in Cancun which is much closer let me know! I’m really overwhelmed attempting to research doctors and hospitals in Tijuana. A surprising majority have a very high rating on Google maps and reviews. I don’t really know where else to look. So I am asking for recommendations that might narrow down my search. I am especially interested in hearing from people who have had this revision from sleeve to mini gastric. My goal is to have the surgery within the next 6 to 8 weeks so it’s really important I find somebody good. Please help!- 16 replies

I was "sleeved" in October 2018, and didn't have any GERD/reflux issues before that. Within 2 weeks of surgery, I began experiencing a burning sensation in my chest, difficulty swallowing and constant belching. The surgeon assured me this was all normal and my pouch was just adjusting. Eventually, he put me on Dexilant 30mg for 1 month. The meds definitely helped, but shortly after I stopped taking it the symptoms came back. Now almost 3 years later, I have severe GERD and a hiatal hernia. I am having revision from VSG to Roux-en-Y and hiatal hernia repair next week. I wish that I had been more vocal about my concerns in the beginning and encourage you to do the same. Extended PPI use can cause all sorts of issues including bone loss and cancer. I hope you find some relief. Take care!

When does it get better!?
Coexister replied to SweetCatastrophy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi there, Wondering how you are feeling now that it has been almost a month? I hope your pain has subsided and you have improved? Pain is different for everyone and managed differently depending on the cause. Would love to hear back and see how things turned out for you? I had two bariatric surgeries and the pain was different for each one. The first one the pain was mostly gas related and relieved mostly by getting up and walking around and getting the gas moving and then constipation was also and issue for me and I has to take Milk of Magnesium to get things moving as well as Miralax to keep things soft and easily moving while on the pain medications. So by the time I got to the 2nd surgery and had a revision, I made sure to take Miralax from the get go to make sure I did not get constipated in the first place as this was the worst pain for me in surgery 1 . However after surgery 2 day 3, I did end up in extreme pain that I could find no relief from and had to go to the emergency room and it turned out that my colon was froze (Paralytic ileus) and that had to give me medication to get my colon moving so pain can be for many reasons. So if your pain is persistent seek help as many things can could be going on after surgery that may require medical intervention. With the 2nd surgery they only gave me Tylenol 2 and so it was the most painful 2 weeks I can remember post-op healing and I have had 15 surgeries but I made it through and it has all been worth it. Ice packs were my best friends. -
July 22 surgery date - Revision from VSG to RNY

This was the best thing I've read today. I'll be having my revision from sleeve to bypass in a few weeks. I hope that I can have a similar story. -
August Revision
Tomo replied to 2ndChance@Life's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm scheduled for my revision in August. Wishing you all the best of luck and success in both physical and mental wellbeing! -
Most doctors won't do lap band anymore because the results aren't very good - most people don't lose too much weight and many people have a lot of complications. A lot of people end up having to have them removed and getting it revised to sleeve or bypass. Is there a reason you really want lap band rather than sleeve or bypass?

July 22 surgery date - Revision from VSG to RNY
mae7365 replied to relaxrelaterelease's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had GERD before my VSG surgery in 2014, and it only got worse over the next six years. Nothing helped, including PPI's. Fast forward to 2020. After a bunch of diagnostic tests to verify my GERD/Gastritis/Esophagitis, I had bypass surgery October 2020. I haven't had GERD since. I'm off all acid reflux medications. I've lost 56 lbs. since surgery and feel better than I felt in my 40's (I'm 64). I've got a ton of energy, walk 5 miles five days/week and do aquatic fitness classes 5 day/week. I'm loving my new, healthier self and so glad I made the decision to get the surgery. Yes, it is a life-long decision and I've forever changed how I can eat and process food, but so worth it! Needless to say, I would recommend the revision to anyone with severe GERD. -
July 22 surgery date - Revision from VSG to RNY
relaxrelaterelease posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It has been a long time since I posted on this forum. I was sleeved in October 2018 and immediately began suffering from reflux/GERD (which I did not have prior to sleeve). Fast-forward 2 1/2 years later, loads of PPI's, EGD's, barium swallows, scans, scopes and referrals, I was finally advised by a surgeon that my best option is to have revision of the sleeve to the bypass. I have a mid grade hiatal hernia and severe GERD. It's gratifying to finally get some answers and while I am looking forward to some relief, I am a bit anxious about the surgery. I relocated from Houston to Dallas, TX in May. I consulted with a new bariatric surgeon on May 26th. Once the ball got rolling, everything went pretty quickly. After thoroughly reviewing my previous surgery and medical records along with additional testing, she determined that in addition to the hernia and GERD, my original pouch from the VSG wasn't as small as it should have been! That explains why I had such slow and minimal weight loss. I lost about 40lbs total, and have regained 20lbs back since COVID. Has anyone had revision from VSG to RNY with hiatal hernia repair due to GERD? If so, has your GERD improved and how has the weight loss been? -
August Revision
SeattleLady replied to 2ndChance@Life's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am not sure when my revision will be done (November or December). I saw my former doctor 1x after surgery. He really disappointed me! Today, I plan to attend all after care appointments. I plan to remain in counseling for the next year. I am ready for individual responsees after my weight-loss. Its a real time of mental growth. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Approved and Anxious!
2ndChance@Life replied to lunadreams's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you haven’t had surgery yet, I recommend the bypass. Sleeve seems to give a lot of us GERD. I’m revising from a sleeve to a bypass now because of GERD. Give it some thought. -
Hello All, I’m have a revision from Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass on August 16… I’m nervous and excited at the same time. How are you all feeling? I had the Gastric Sleeve 9/2015 SW 347 LW 239. Now I’m having a revision due to GERD and regain. CW 299… the first time around I didn’t follow-up with my doctor after having complications with GERD early on. I’m so looking forward to doing things the right way this time! Who’s having their revision in August? Also, what are some mistakes you all made that you plan to do differently this time?

Gastric bypass stoma tightening
mae7365 replied to asencion's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I've lost much more than expected, but it has not been fast weight loss. A couple pounds a month for the past 6 months (more in the beginning months after surgery). My surgeon was very please with my overall weight loss when I saw him at 8 months post-op. The revision has been very, very different from sleeve surgery. I'm hoping that the slower weight loss will result in long term success. -
Distill bypass
Ariesgurl71 replied to emma6588's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am having this revision soon. My surgeon calls it a long limb gastric bypass, but it’s the same as distal as they are bypassing more of the small intestine to allow greater malabsorption. I just found out on Friday, that he wants to take my gall bladder out now due to a stone. He said he’d rather do it now than after the revision to prevent gall bladder issues down the line. -
I was referred to a long standing bariatric doctor. I found out that he does not believe in revision sugery despite the research (2019). I am now in the process of finding a new doctor with approval for the procedure. I am excited and scared as heck. I will never give up! So, here we start again! I had revision surgery from lap band to sleeve on July 7th. The surgery went way better than I expected it would. After surgery I had no pain, no gas and no nausea. The clear liquid diet after surgery is not bad at all thus far. I look forward to sipping on warm broth. So far I am a happy sleever and look forward to what my new skinny future holds. Good luck to you all. -

I haven't had revision, but yes, I've heard/read that the weight loss is slower with revisions than it is original surgery. -
Gastric bypass stoma tightening
asencion posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had original Bypass in March 2003. Only lost 50lbs. I then opted for the “experimental Stomypx” in 2010 lost 12 lbs. so I just had a Haitian hernia repair on 6/9/21. Along with “tightening my stretched stoma of 4 cm to making it 1 cm. My pouch maintained it size since 2013! Since my stoma opening was to big it bypassed my stomach. It has now caused GERD, hernia… well you know… My question to all the revised ppl is was the weight loss slower? My surgeon said I will loos60% of my body w excess body weight. Did you lose that? Or less or more? I do feel restriction… but still pretty reluctant I will ever reach an ideal healthy weight. I went in at 228 6/9 I’m now at 215 4 weeks post r revision -

Possibly looking at revision; dumping syndrome
Sunnyway replied to StratusPhr's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am approaching revision to RNY performed in 1990. At that time the pouch was not cut away from the stomach, just stapled. The staple line failed, leaving a fistula between pouch and stomach. I eventually regained all I had lost. I didn't know that a revision was even possible until recently. I'm going to go for it! I don't recall having severe dumping syndrome, but I did have my gallbladder removed at the same time as the gastric bypass, so that may have made a difference. I had more trouble with chest pressure from overeating, which led to upchucking for relief. It still happens once in a while with certain foods despite the faulty pouch. I have already sworn off sugar and flour. After three months of abstinence, I don't get cravings often. I've accepted that I'm a food addict and any food containing sugar or flour is triggering. This is going to be a lifetime project because I don't want to regain what I will able to lose after having the revision. After I get past the post-surgery liquid/puree/soft food stage, I am also going to quit all sugar substitutes. They trigger me as badly as real sugar. -
Sleeve to bypass revision with arthritis

I’m so sorry your dealing with this.. I too have RA and was revised this past May..My surgeon of course was aware of my RA but never showed any cause of concern regarding my revision .. I don’t know.. maybe see out another surgeon? I pray this all works out for you and please don’t give up.. best wishes to you -
I'm pre-op (for revision). I'd probably gain weight at 1500 calories. Over the past three months, my calorie count has dropped from 1200 to even under 1000 per day. I'm OK with it. I swore off sugar and flour 3 when I started the pre-op dieting. I don't get the cravings I once had although the first month was a b***h. Protein shakes are a game-changer. They weren't around when I had my gastric bypass 30 years ago. I usually substitute 1 meal per day with a protein shake. I've discovered that there are vast differences among the brands. I prefer the taste of the plant-based protein to the whey-based.

Anyone got approved for a revision because of a dilated sleeve? Original surgery in 2012. Gained all weight back. Upper GI shows massively dilated sleeve, hiatal hernia and I have grade B esophagitis but biopsies are negative for inflammation.
