Iron Infusions for Anemia/Restless Legs Syndrome post-sleeve
rebeccalynn319 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I am two years post-sleeve surgery, down about 80 pounds and happy. Unfortunately, I have developed pretty severe iron deficiency anemia which was discovered because I developed horrible restless legs syndrome. I'm taking 60 mg of Iron in my bariatric vitamin without much success. My doctor has recommended IV iron infusion. I was just curious if other sleevers have had this problem, as I thought it was more associated with bypass. Also, if you have experience, can you share how you felt during/after infusions? I have an anxiety disorder and worry about everything, so I'd love some real life tales. Thank you, Rebecca -

Having GERD. Will insurance cover revision if BMI IS 31?
Tomo replied to NewlySleeved12282020's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Having gerd was enough for me to get the revision covered. When I first went in to speak to my current surgeon, I had a bmi of 28. He advised to get the revision ASAP. Unfortunately, I didn't. I was so scared to get the bypass. Also, I was content with my weight loss (bmi 60+ to 28, steady for many years) and thought I could control the gerd with PPIs. I couldn't. I suffered terribly for years after that. Looking at it in retrospect, I was silly. Best thing I ever did. -

@Barihopeful- sorry for the late response. I’ve been sooo tired. Haven’t been feeling my normal energy or self lately. I’m loosing inches. Afraid to get on the scale just yet. When I went to my post op appointment I was down 16 lbs including preop lost. I will weigh in on the 9th. Exactly one month. How’s everyone doing with their liquids? I’m not hungry and finding it to be a chore to eat and drink lol oh btw this is a revision from Sleeve to Bypass with a hernia repair. -
Just had my gastric bypass surgery on Tuesday
Kelseydawn posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I just had my gastric bypass surgery and hiatal hernia repair on Tuesday. Getting into the groove of drinking water every 15 min but did a bad job yesterday. I’m really struggling with this liquid diet and can’t wait until I can eat soft foods after my doctor clears me on Dec 12 for my follow up appt. Any tips on making it through the liquid diet? I’m getting tired of soups and protein shakes only. I’ve lost 5 pounds since my surgery so far so I’m on the right path also 15 pounds since starting my liquid diet 3 weeks ago. One day at a time. -

September surgery buddies!!

Yay! Congrats!!! Stalls are super discouraging. I had been in a stall most of November and then went to the amusement parks in Florida for a week. Came back to find the 20K+ steps a day must have revved up my metabolism and I finally broke the stall. We got this! -
You probably can go through with your bypass, but that is a call for your medical team - the surgeon and cardiologist. Typically, they want you stable and under control when you go in for surgery - they don't want surprises on the operating table - that's what these various specialist clearances are for. If we were all in perfect health with no pre existing conditions, no one would ever get WLS. I hear you on the Eliquis - it's the new kid on the block which makes it expensive, but the older meds are a lot more inconvenient to use (when my father was still alive, he was always needing blood draws to adjust the doses of his coumadin/warfarin blood thinner, which isn't necessary with Eliquis.) The drug companies often have discount programs for these expensive drugs to drop the copays for the patient (they don't mind sticking it to the insurance companies, but they want it cheap enough for the patient to use the med rather than a cheaper generic alternative,) so check into that. It's not the end of the journey, but it is a detour. At the beginning of this year, my PCP found that I was in Afib when I was getting a clearance for cataract surgery, which put that off for a while until it got treated, but it did happen, though a few months later than expected.

I woke up yesterday in the middle of the night with my heart racing and feeling dizzy and light headed. I had a cardiologist appointment at 8am for cardiology cleareance. Needless to say I didnt get that clearance and was sent straight to the hospital in A fib. My heart eventually straightened itself out on its own and I was send home with metoprolol and plans to get on a blood thinner. My question is can I still have the gastric bypass surgery with A fib? I am terrifed they are going to say that I cant have the surgery now because of the blood thinner. They wanted me to go on Eliquis but with my insurance it costs $370. I cant pay that every month, so Im waiting for the dr to call in something else. Please tell me this is not the end of the journey for me.

November 2022 Surgery Buddies
ConnieElain replied to Crystal Leifheit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had gastric sleeve on November 2nd. Boy was I nervous! I saw my husband go through through gastric sleeve and he did great! I had a VERY hard week following surgery. But once I got past that week I have been moving forward. I am managing to get in my protein and water daily (sometimes it’s really hard). I started going for walks this week and I think the sunshine is helping. Everyday I’m feeling better! I haven’t had an issue with hair loss and am cautiously optimistic about that. How many calories is everyone averaging? -
What was your starting weight vs now? How many supplements do you have to take a day? I am planning to get the gastric sleeve but now I am curious about the MGB. Sent from my SM-N970U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

I am 7 days post-op, had several problems. My gastric bypass went well, but the found a hiatal hernia and liver problems, on top of that the gas didn't dissipate as normal it went into my face, neck, chest, heart and lung. Ended up with a partially collapsed lung and needed a chest tube. I'm on a ton of meds that have to be crushed and taken every 6 hours. I can't stomach anything but water and I apologize for the gross details but now I'm struggling with horrible diarrhea. I just want to feel better, has anyone run into this problem.

November GBP Patients!
Old Salt replied to New Revision Patient 11-22's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sounds good. Everyone will be different as there are a lot of contributing factors such as age, male or female, starting weight, etc. I just hit my 3 week post-op date and have lost only 14 lbs since my surgery, but am happy with the progress. I only weigh myself once a week and realistically am looking at not reaching my goal weight until November of next year. Slow & steady is OK with me as long as it's permanent this time. Remember, your weight loss will not be linear, but a step down with some steps longer & others bigger. You are doing good, keep it up! -
I just had my revision surgery from a Lapband to a Gastric Bypass. I am 11 days out and have lost 8 pounds. Is this normal?

Just some advise from someone 2 years out of Sleeve Surgery

Thank you for sharing this. So helpful for someone going in this Friday for Gastric Bypass surgery. Like you, I have long, thick, natural hair. I love my hair and I'm sure will hate to see any hairloss. I'm hoping that mine will be minimal, but definitely will make sure to take my biotin either way. Thanks for the tips. -
Gastric Bypass Revision
Daddyof4 replied to Ljthatguy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi Ljthatguy, Sorry you're having incision issues, I hope that clears up soon. I had my lapband removed in March 2022 with hiatal hernia repair as well. The gastric bypass feels totally different from the lapband, I have never felt any restriction in the same way. I never get stuck anymore it's more that my new tiny stomach gets full very quickly. That limits the amount I can eat. When I got to solids I was told to eat 2 oz (one large egg size) and, while that sounds like a very little amount it was enough. I was barely hungry the first month or so. I'm now eating more than my allotted 4 oz and my weight loss has stopped for that reason so it's not easy to stay on course and I need to get to the mindset of trying to eat as little as possible instead of seeing how much I can eat. Hang in there, I know you can do this! -
Super weak and dizzy at times
bradshawdx replied to Courtney*'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to thank you so much, apparently you were godsend and life saver. Because of you I went to the ER. When they did my gastric bypass, they found a Heidel hernia. When they corrected this item, it caused a pneumothorax and air trapped around my heart, all extremely life threatening. Also the swelling in my face, neck and chest is due to trapped air that they call rice crispies 🤣. Apparently this is extremely rare, but I want to make people aware this can happen. I'm currently in ICU with a chest tube, waiting to figure out what they are going to do with my heart. -
Gastric Bypass Revision
catwoman7 replied to Ljthatguy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
are you on purees now? If so, that could explain it. I'm have a "virgin" bypass, not a revision, but i didn't start feeling restriction until I moved on to solid food. Also, they likely cut some nerves when they were in there - it takes awhile for them to regenerate. -
On November 14th I had a gastric bypass revision. I had one incision that brought more pain than the others. Days later I found out that it was infected which led me now having to pack the wound daily. During the revision the surgeon told me he got rid of a lot of scar tissue from the previous surgery and fixed a hernia. The one thing I’ve have an issue with now is that I don’t feel the same restriction I felt during the first surgery and that scares me. It’s starting to make me feel like the revision didn’t happen. Has anyone experienced this ?
