Wow, I didn't get yogurt until a week out! Looks like you're doing great. I'm sure they're pumping you full of IV fluids, which will help make up for lower fluid intake the first few days. Welcome to the other side!

Anyone for August 2020
JenniferNu replied to MotivatedMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to update for those who are headed to surgery soon. I am one week and a day since sleeve surgery and I’m pretty much feeling 100%. I didn’t really ever have pain from the wounds. I did experience gas, I wouldn’t call it pain but it was very uncomfortable. It lasted about 24 hours and got better with walking. I had minor pain when I left the hospital but Im a single mom with a one year old and it was hard not to pick him up. I had to lift him onto the changing table, give him baths, etc you know regular mom stuff. That pain subsided pretty quickly too and I didn’t have to use pain meds much. Being on liquids again for another 2 weeks is the worst part but it’s not unbearable. It was difficult for me to get a protein shake down this first week. They just felt heavy and sweet and weren’t setting right but I kept trying different ones and found ones that I could tolerate. Protein water has been a life saver. I found some sipping soups yesterday that have been helping me feel more satisfied. I also talked to my surgeon’s office and they told me I could try some Greek yogurt and that went well today. I went back to work day 6. I’m a teacher and all my student are virtual for now so I’m basically just sitting in front of a computer all day. I was feeling really tired like I needed a nap midday and then super exhausted when I got home from work but not today. Today I felt great. You feel better every day. I’m just so excited to start seeing results. I have lost 11 lbs since surgery. -
I was a big water drinker before surgery but I have struggled ever since. I don’t know why but think it may have to do with being a water guzzler before & now I struggle to have more than a mouthful at a time. I keep water beside my bed, in the car, in my living room so it’s always on hand. I try to keep my fluid levels up by drinking green tea (have done so for years), eating high water content foods like lettuce, fruit (watermelon is great), drinking yogurt, eating milky porridge, etc. Of course it’s not easy to measure your fluids accurately this way but as long as your urine is at least pale lemon in colour & you pee often, you should be ok.

egg? chicken? beef? pork? fish? beans? cheese? yogurt? milk?.. you're gonna need to be a lot more specific.

July 2020 Surgery anyone?
Pandemonium replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is 6 weeks post-op. I'm down 4lbs from last week, which felt good since it felt like I might have been starting a stall. Still on my doctor's fairly restrictive diet. So far for normal foods I've only done scrambled eggs and pureed chicken salad with hummus and greek yogurt instead of mayo. Both went down with no problem. This will be the second week of me mixing in regular food twice in the week. Next week I'll go to three times a week, barring any issues. Exercise has continued to be a chore due to the heat, but things are cooling down this week, so looking to increase my activity some more. Yesterday was very difficult for me. I ended up receiving some really lousy news that completely devastated me mentally and emotionally. My usual routine would have been to indulge in some comfort food. Except that isn't possible now. Which is definitely for the best, but it really didn't help my mood or mental state any. Still feeling upset today and just trying to get through it. -
Big fan of korean food, but it's full of spices. Good to go or no no?
LunaSea679 replied to GBori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love spicy food and my palate is a little more sensitive after surgery. I cook a lot of different Asian foods for myself but try to tweak them to cut out sugar/carbs. It helps to satisfy the craving without caving. I made curried meatballs the other night and for the sauce I substituted the usual cream with greek yogurt and could honestly not tell the difference. The only thing I missed was the Naan bread lol Sent from my SM-G975U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Day 8 - fatigue today. I took two naps during the day. I introduced a new food today. Goya black bean soup blended until no beans visible. I also had a low sodium v8 which I drank using medicine cups. Both were delicious and well tolerated. I took a short stroll today in the park. It’s getting easier to tolerate the walks. I had more gas then ever today. I’ve never been this gassy in my life! I was able to go to the bathroom today without any laxatives which was a relief. I continue to use the premier protein shakes to meet the daily protein requirements for my program (60 grams). Tomorrow I plan on having a well blended sweet potato pumpkin soup as my meal. Im kind of scared to eat yogurt right now because I feel like that was the troublemaker the other day. I will reintroduce the yogurt again in a few days.

I went to my doctors office yesterday because I felt that that food getting caught in my throat sensation was getting worse. I started having issues with drinkable protein yogurt and swallowing pills. I spoke to the nurse on the phone and she told me to come into the office. I asked to me seen by an MD. Three days ago I noticed a bulge the size of a softball sticking out on my right side under my breast bone. I’ve also had pain on my lower back. When I went into the office, the NP came into the exam room. She was very dismissive of my symptoms that I have been experiencing in conversations with her. I told her that I was told that I would be able to see an MD and if I couldn’t, I was going to call my PCP and go see another bariatric specialist. She left the room and came back with a surgeon. The NP examined me and said I had a hernia and asked me if I ever had issues swallowing. I haven’t. Seconds later my surgeon came in. He is well know and people come from all over the country come to see him for bariatric surgery with him. That’s why I chose him. He examined me and said that I didn’t have a hernia and the bump was tissue that is healing. He sent me to get an X-ray with contrast die and that’s when I learned I had stenosis. The opening of my stomach was narrowed due to scar tissue. On Monday I have another operation scheduled for my surgeon to remove the scar tissue. He said that this happens with 2 percent of patients after surgery. After surgery I have to go back to the liquid food plan and start over. I’m feeling really scared and hoping that one day I’ll be able to eat normally and healthy. I’m worried that something happened to me and I may have to live with a disability for the rest of my life. I’ve lost 25 pounds since my surgery day, which was July 20th. I’m not that excited about that because of these complications that I’ve been having.

Day 8 - on to stage two, full liquids. Today I am nauseated. New things I tried today Plain fat free yogurt with protein powder. Not very good tasting and not fun to eat. I tried a V 8 which tasted good and went down easy. Too easy I think because I had some feeling of bloat for a while afterward. Without using the medicine cups I seem to be drinking too fast. Gas is still a problem too. I lost five more pounds for a total of 15.5 since the prep diet on 7/24/20. This evening I went for a walk but I couldn’t go for that long just 15 minutes or so. I feel weak and I already have neuropathy in my feet so I have balance issues. I have exercises that I can do to promote better balance but I need permission from the surgeon to put them into action. I was also able to take all my 3x tops out of my closet because they are super loose on me. I’m donating them to a church that serves the poor in my city. I’m going to have to do something about my sluggish digestive tract. I have only gone once and that’s not typical for me at all. I have colace but they are gel caps and they are bigger then the mouth of a straw. Not sure what to do. I’ll bring it up with the doctor on Tuesday.

I don't know where you are weight-wise now, but if that 30 lbs you mentioned you still want to lose will get you to a normal BMI, then yea - the last 20 or 30 lbs are a BEAR to lose. it's not unusual for people to fill up fast on dense protein (like chicken), but be able to inhale snacky things like there's no tomorrow. That's why they recommend we focus on dense protein and low cal, highly nutritious things like fruits and vegetables. And that's what people should be focusing on anyway if they want to stay healthy, regardless of weight or surgery status. if you aren't tracking your intake, I'd start doing it. I still track everything I eat at five years out. I've learned I can maintain my weight if I stay between 1500-1700 calories a day (and that range it going to vary for everyone - you may be able to eat more or less - but if you're still trying to lose weight, then probably less....). It's really easy to go over your range and start gaining weight if you're not paying attention. The only time since surgery that I didn't track (other than a day or two here and there) was when I spent a month abroad last fall. I didn't THINK I was eating too much but....TA DA!....I came back a few pounds heavier than when I left. Easy to do. if you want to continue to lose weight, you'll have to focus on dense proteins and vegetables. They're filling and will give you the most nutritional bang for the buck. And maybe small servings of fruit, too (I could eat fruit with no problem - but some people limit it because of the sugar). If you focus on those things but STILL aren't losing weight, then you'll have to cut back on total calories, too. I didn't consistently go over 1000 per day until I was about a year out. btw....I do keep some "safe" things around for snack attacks when I get them - SF Jello, SF popsicles, Light & Fit yogurt, baby carrots, celery, Costco roasted seaweed, lots of different types of tea, lots of safe and fun things to drink, like flavored waters. I know it's really hard sometimes - but it's the only way to lose weight - or avoid gaining it. It's a daily struggle...

Need quick tips to lose 5lbs before last appt!
Pandemonium replied to rebeccalynn319's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly? My suggestion would be to contact your weight loss team and ask them to delay submitting for approval with your insurance for another month. That will give you the chance to adjust to a diet that will get your weight down below where you started off and start some exercise. While I was still waiting to meet my reqs, my diet was one 30g protein shake at 9am, a 20g protein bar at noon, a cottage cheese cup/low-sugar greek yogurt/another protein shake or bar at 4pm, and then 5oz of lean protein and 5oz of veggies at 7pm. I'd generally end up between 1000-1200 calories. For exercise, I would just walk outside for about 30-45 minutes since the gym was not an option. Couple that kind of a diet and routine with delaying submitting to insurance for 4 weeks and you should get back below where you started. -
Drive to Eat vs. Actual Hunger
ChubRub replied to WhatATool:-)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your thoughts and feelings are completely normal, especially while you are still on liquids. Once you graduate to solids you will be amazed at the "full" feeling you have after just a few bites. You may also find that your taste buds change too. Food was my hobby too! While I was eating breakfast, I would be thinking about what I wanted for lunch, etc. I craved fast food, chocolate, etc. Now I'm completely satisfied eating a greek yogurt (and it takes me a while to eat it). Covid has gotten in the way of my social life, but I look forward to the next party I go to, where I can focus solely on the company, and not obsess about when they are putting out dessert! LOL!! -
Looking to connect with others who had bypass surgery in July and veterans
Kaylieghm posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had bypass surgery on July 20th. It was nearly impossible to eat or drink when I transitioned to the purées stage. I have an appointment scheduled on August 24th for an X-ray with contrast die to see if there are any issues. I’m supposed to be transitioning to soft food in two weeks, which I’m excited about. I’ve been eating yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, protein shakes, low fat cream of mushroom soup, and retried beans. I was able to swallow scrambled eggs this morning. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. How are you or have you been making it through the early stages after surgery? Any food ideas? -
At 3 months out from surgery it still took 20-30 minutes to eat and egg with 1/4c of cheese and 1/4 cup of bell peppers. Around 5-6 months I could finish that in 15 minutes. At around 1 year I can eat that amount and maybe a half piece of toast in 10-15 minutes so a normal pace. If it is slider food like soup or yogurt even with some fruit mixed in I can eat a cup of yogurt in 5 minutes. A 1-1/2 cup of salad with toppings in 10-15 minutes. I am still limited to a dinner of 2-3 oz of meat and 1/4-1/2 c of veggies and can eat almost all of it in 10-15 minutes on an empty stomach but if i had something to eat an hour before that then I can only eat half of the dinner and I go back in 20-30 minutes and finish it.

Obsessing about Plastic Surgery!!
Darktowerdream replied to ChubRub's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@ChubRub I am so tired I forgot when I clicked the post to read it and meant to answer you. It is after midnight now I need sleep but wanted to answer first. I need to get myself to shop for a swimsuit then get up the nerve to go to the pool. Wish the weather wasn’t so brutal. Lately the feels like heat index is well over 100 and humidity is the worst. Went with my mom today to get her nails done so I got a few groceries. I’m obsessed with making for dinner a oikos triple zero Lemon tart yogurt with PEScience peanut butter cookie protein powder, freeze 30 minutes. Sola granola on top. I got chocolate this time. Some pumpkin seeds. And land o lakes whipped cream. Of course a manzano banana. It’s really good. great news is that the T incision On my thigh lift is finally healed and closed. Whatever I did helped it a lot l The coccyx incision is getting there ... Although I have a painful lump above my belly button Im not sure what it is. BBS ... soooo tired ... -

July 2020 Surgery anyone?
Pandemonium replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Appointment well pretty well, though apparently it was supposed to be an over-the-phone appointment, though this was not communicated to me. So I showed up at the office, Fortunately, my doctor was able to see me in-person, which I was more comfortable with since the last visit was 4 weeks ago and 6 days post-op. Felt better to have someone look at my incisions and assure me they'd healed up perfectly. Their scale said 2 pounds lost since last week, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow which is my official weigh in day to record it on my scale. My diet plan is now 2 diet plans now to give me the option of using normal food. Still doing 2 Celebrate shakes, only switching from 1% milk to almond milk. And then I have the choice between doing 2 20g protein bars or doing 1 20g protein bar and 4 "forkfuls" of a protein source (approximately 2 ounces). Recommendations are scrambled eggs or yogurt first and then try chicken and fish if no issues with the eggs or yogurt. This makes me much happier. My goal is to try 5 days on the all protein shakes/bars plan and then 2 days where I mix in regular food. -
July 2020 Surgery anyone?
Pandemonium replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
His reasoning behind it is that his experience has shown that the reintroduction of regular food into the diet is when he sees the weight loss begin to slow. So apparently he likes to do a very slow progression and keep to liquids for as long as possible so as to maximize the immediate post-op weight loss. I'm not sure if I buy into that entirely. The protein bars surprised the hell out of me too. I was like "ummm...that's not pureed and I'd barely qualify it as a soft food". Of course, the way he has me eating them is that I cut the 1.5 bars into 4-6 pieces and then I spend 20-30 minutes eating a single piece until they are gone. So I'm only really consuming about half an ounce each time. My bites are small and well chewed so I've avoided any discomfort or vomiting so far. But it still seems weird to me that I get to have protein bars before I can have eggs, yogurt, or cottage cheese. I've been eating Think bars, which are one of my favorites. I also love the One bars, but I am out of those at the moment. I also LOVE Built bars, but the majority of their flavors are only 15g of protein and my doctor wants me doing 20g bars. I'm gonna be curious about my weigh in today (and tomorrow at home) since it doesn't feel like I've lost much this week and thought I might be looking at the first stall, but I go out of my way to only weigh myself once a week. Otherwise I'd probably drive myself crazy. -
I may have a small problem...
S@ssen@ch replied to Starwarsandcupcakes's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I have a shelf in my pantry with 3 or 4 flavors and a canister of unflavored. I always keep some on hand. I use the unflavored when I have yogurt for breakfast for an extra protein boost. I typically don't drink protein shakes regularly, but I keep the others when I feel I need to re-focus and get back on track. -
6 yrs post op - weight gain - seeking support
bookworm1983 replied to Domika03's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
oof. Well, I have thrown out all the junk food (several times, in fact) and it just gets replaced; the food I get for myself (cottage cheese, yogurt, lean meats, etc.) get eaten and NOT by me. Conversations with the hubby have been had, but pretty much ignored. I acknowledge I have impulse control issues when it comes to food and I am working on it, but having temptations around all the time makes it difficult. I actually purchased new shorts and shirts online a few days ago so I can be more comfortable (waiting for them to be delivered) as my current clothes are too tight/small for me to comfortably leave my house to walk around the neighborhood. I am also going to talk to my boss about changing my login time so I can try walking in the morning when it is cooler rather than when I get off work when it is the warmest. (This seemed to work well when I had to go into the office. I took an earlier bus so I could get 30 minutes of walking in before work.) I downloaded a calorie tracker so I can start using it tomorrow morning. I literally cried when I got on the scale on Wednesday because my weight was way worse than I thought. It was a slap in the face and a huge reality check. I cannot change everything at once or I will get overwhelmed and quit. I am hoping that making these smaller changes now, losing a little and feeling better, I can make more and more changes. Since I really do not have a lot of support from my husband, I felt that coming here, I could find some POSITIVE support and encouragement to help me make these changes and STICK to them. -
What are the best items for liquid diet?

Hello . I had my lap band removed because I seem to have loss extremely too much weight to to point I looked very sick . No sign of a woman . Just straight up and down. My removal was July 28, 2020. Today the swelling is gone down a little but I have a terrible knot maybe the size of an orange on my left side under my breast that hurts tremendously. I have put ice on it it’s not going down at all. It’s where the port was. It’s looks like I’m about 4 months pregnant in that area only. I really hate I banded myself in the first place . It feels as if it’s still inside even when I only eat yogurt . It’s having a bad time passing through. It has been about 2 or 3 weeks. I can’t find anything on line to tell me what this knot is about. It’s hard and painful. And really scaring me not to mention my stomach is black and blue and the incision where the port was is wayyyy larger than the incision in which the band was placed . Can anyone please enlighten me if this was part of the process of recovery ? If so when could you get back to normal. This is awful and my recovery was way simpler when I had the band places

Is anyone else as disappointed...
_Chonk_ replied to Luv2cruz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel all your frustration. I am eating about 500-600 cal/day, and I have lost 1.5 pounds in 10 days. Today is 28 days since my surgery. I didn't know it was physically possible for the human body to not catabolize its tissue in what is essentially starvation. How does it do it? It goes against the laws of physiology. I religiously track every morsel that goes in my mouth, and try to add more calories, but my sleeve revolts and up it comes. I can't eat pureed chicken, tuna, eggs, and if I eat more than a few ounces of greek yogurt that makes its way up as well. I've vomited every day for the past 4 days, and sometimes several times a day. Literally the only thing that goes down easy are protein shakes, thin sugar free pudding or creamy soft cheeses, in small amounts. I'm so ready to start working out again, and started doing physical therapy for my back this week, but I'm so exhausted from the lack of calories that I can't keep up with even wimpy exercise now. So sorry for the venting here, I'm also getting insanely depressed about all this. Again, I apologize for unloading on you guys but there is no one I can talk to about this. Thanks for listening -

You are a girl after my own heart! I cannot eat the same thing over and over and over...which is probably how I ended up here! My full liquid diet does not allow for anything but protein shakes, strained soup and yogurt...but I cannot wait to get to the puree/mushies stage! Plans are being made and all recipes are welcomed!
