    Newbie by Referral

Hello all: I live in Dayton Ohio, and have chosen Dr. Allison Clarey as my dr. They have in house support groups, but I would love to connect with more people. I am jumping through the insurance hoop right now, but hopefully will have my surgery in January. Good luck to us all, and to a lighter 2007.

    5 days post op question

the restriction on drinking is to allow for slower digestion; i learned that when you drink while eating (I love my iced tea!!!!) you are washing the food through your system before your body has time to register that you have eaten it!!!!! (makes sense) all of this process is a retraining of our bodies and brains; hang in there and try ice chips - praying for my surgery in January

    depression

you have to listen to your body, and not compare yourself to what others can/can't do. everybody is different, and heals differently, can tolerate different things. call your nutritionist and see what they suggest. from everything i have read so far, you have to experiment with different textures and consistencies to find what works for you. you may want to look at adding some Protein powder in, low protein can lead to depression. take care

momoney: My dr's office found out when they submitted for the lapband last month. My job doesn't know anything about this, and I plan to keep it that way!!!!! Every year insurance company's make changes to their plans and that is what happened to mine. Also lapbanding is considered a new procedure so it is taking a while for the insurance to catch up. Also check to see if there is a 'standard' or 'high' option for your plan; sometimes one will offer things that the other doesn't. Take care

    what is BPing?

I have a reflux problem now and then. My dr. said that some reflux is caused by the size of your liver pressing down on everything. (Thats why the liquid diet prior to surgery, to reduce liver size). The first place to lose weight is actually the liver, and as it approaches a normal size, the pressure on the esophogus (sp?) goes away and so does the reflux. Just another benny to look forward to!!!!!! For some of us anyway, I know everyone is different,

    New..Need a little help

I haven't had my surgery yet; but from everything that I read so far, you can cause damage to your band by eating solids already. The liquid diet is to allow your surgery site to heal, and the band to fix itself in place properly. If you force food through, you can cause it to slip down. This will lead to another painful surgery. My advice is to call you dr. right away, and get back on the liquids. take care, my turn is coming soon (I hope) :clap2:

    My newbie introduction.

Ladies: I don't mean to get on a soap box, but I am watching my Mom die of lung cancer right now, and I am begging you for the sake of your kids (no matter how old they are) to do whatever it takes to stop smoking. pills, Patches, hypnosis, gum, chinese Water torture, please don't put your family through this type of death. My Mom is 63 and has smoked since she was 16, but she never made the decision to stop. Well the cancer made it for her. It is a horrible way to die. The best they can do for her is treat her symptoms. SCLC (small cell lung cancer) is very invasive, it has already gone to her bones and liver in just a matter of months despite chemo. The next stop is her brain. Soon she won't know us anymore, or who she is. Please do whatever you have to do to kick this horrible, and life ending habit. Sorry, I this is the first time I have vented about my Mom. Thanks for listening

    Questions

Is there anything that you didn't know about your procedure that you wish you had been told? What tips can you offer? I should have my procedure in January. Thanks
  16. I am expecting to have my surgery in January. I am 43 years old, and weigh 230. I guess I am going through the post-decision jitters, and am looking for all the info I can get.:help: Can anyone recommend a good Protein drink. I am really bad about not being able to drink it if it doesn't taste good or smells bad. Thanks Lisa
  17. I totally understand wanting to keep this private. I work with all men, am the only female, and there is no way I would want them to know. I guess it shows just how screwed up in the head you can get about this, when you are embarrassed (me) to being doing something positive for yourself and don't want people to know. Should be having my surgery in January. Take care
