I am glad I changed the appt. for two weeks instead of next week. I was on clear liquids for 9 days and only yesterday started full liquids and some pureed food. I want some time to adjust to the new feelings when I eat. For example this morning I had some medifast oatmeal and was absolutely stuffed by the time I was done. By the next appt. I will be 3 1/2 weeks from surgery so we will see how I feel then.

I was just banded on 10/25. Went for my post op visit today and my surgeon suggested putting in my first fill next week. I opted to what another week but that still seems fast to me. Anyone else receive fills so quickly after surgery?

DebH replied to pinkgirl13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Quick question. I can't figure out how to post the ticketfactory band on my site. Could either of you tell me what to do? Thanks Went for my post-op visit today and everything is fine. he wanted me back next week for my first fill and I opted to wait one more week. I want to make sure I am healed physically and mentally before I start the restriction process. -
10/26/2010 My Band Birthday
DebH replied to pinkgirl13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
PinkGirl, I am so glad you posted. I was banded on the 25th and I believe everything has gone as expected, but tonight I am sitting here feeling like I want to cry and I can't figure it out. I know most of my problem is that I am terribly impatient and want it all to happen yesterday. My husband has been excellent, as everyday he reminds me that I need to be patient and just do what I have to do. If it wasn't for him I know I would be even more emotional. I also think anesthesia may be contributing to emotionality. I remember the last time I had surgery I remember getting very depressed for about a week afterward. Last week I was very uncomfortable and had a little nausea, like there was a lump in the back of my throat just about to come up. I have found that getting up and walking really helped me. One day I just walked around my backyard for about 15 minutes until the feeling passed. I think I may have also lost about a pound a day, but impatient me thinks that I should have dropped at least 15 on these clear liquids. Anyway, you are not alone. I found a friend that lives near me who was banded at a different hospital the same day. While we have not met face to face we talk daily through e-mail and just connecting with someone that understands help. Keep me posted on your progress. -
I was banded on the 25th. I can't believe that you went back to work after 2 days. I didn't even begin to feel like myself until day 5. I return to work 11/08. This week, so far I feel great. I go back to the doctor tomorrow and am hoping to move to puree diet. The clear liquids have been okay but I feel that my mouth needs something else in it. I can't say that I am hungry, more that I just want to taste something besides protein. Good luck on your journey!

Good for you! By the weekend you will be feeling more like yourself. I was banded last Monday and by Saturday I finally felt like me. And every day feeling better and better. Wishing the same for you!

I was just banded 10/25. Today my pain has been minimal, the belching has subsided somewhat and my constant coughing has stopped. BUT I constantly feel like I just finished a huge meal, that tight, belt around your diaphram feeling. I am on clear liquids only and am trying to space them throughout the day but this full feeling has me on the verge of nausea with a lump in the back of my throat. I even took a long walk today to see if the feeling would pass and it didn't. Is this was restriction feels like? I am hoping some may still be swelling but I'm not sure.

Is this what restriction feels like?
DebH replied to DebH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all of your input. I am thinking that it some of this feeling must be swelling because each day it is getting better. I am able to get water down and the clear protein drinks as long as I sip and take it slow. Yesterday and today I even had a decaf tea and a decaf coffee with a little fat free milk and was able to drink about half a cup of each so I know things are going down. I also found that sucking on a hard cinnamon candy seems to soothe the feeling. I go back to the doctor in 4 more days so since it is getting better I will wait and talk to him then. I have no idea if I was filled at surgery or not. Prior I was told that I would not have a fill, but soo much of that day was different than what I was told so who knows! LOL I can't tell you how helpful the members of this site have been to me on this journey! -
How many of you take Synthroid?
DebH replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually take my thyroid medication when I get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Anywhere between 1-4 am. This way it doesn't interfere with anything else going into my system. If you get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom try that. -
Hello Onerland...I've missed you.
DebH replied to E'sMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations Kristina! I was just banded Monday of this week, but I was just thinking that it has been about 20 years since I was in Onederland and can't wait for that milestone. Keep up the good work, I am hoping to join you one of these days! -
Post Op Clear Liquid Diet
DebH replied to boricuanessa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded this past Monday 10/25 and I am also having a hard time getting in all the protein as I have been instructed to just use clear liquids too. Today was the first day I was able to get in 65 grams but I have felt stuffed all day and I tried to space it out over the course of the day. I don't go back unti 11/03 and and not sure I can stomach the IsoPure until then. The Super Whey Protein shots are a little better, only because they are more concentrated and you get 25 grams in 2.5 ozs. -
just got banded on the 2oth of Oct
DebH replied to vstall6046's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I do have some gas, high in my chest and upper back. I am belching quite a bit, but no significant relief yet. I have only been able to get 40 grams of protein in today, just couldn't do the extra 20. It can only get better from here. Good luck with going back to work. Ihope you get back to your old routine in no time! -
I checked my insurance status on-line this morning and saw that it changed from pending to "APPROVED". Got a call from my surgeon this afternoon to tell me that they have scheduled me for Monday 10/25! I go tomorrow for my pre-op visit. I am so excited, but nervous as well! Many of the posts here have been very encouraging to me and I want to thank you all!

I made it through surgery with no problems. They did rush me through recovery and the swallow test quickly as they didn't want me to have to spend the night. Today I am still groggy from the anesthesia and have abdominal soreness but am able to swallow the protein drink and my water. I am not a very patient person and waiting until 11/03 for my post-op visit is going to seem like forever to me. I hope that those having surgery soon will come through it as nicely as I did. Thanks for the kind thoughts and support!

just got banded on the 2oth of Oct
DebH replied to vstall6046's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just got banded yesterday 10/25. I am trying to stay up and moving around but I am still very groggy from the anesthesia. I still have over half of my protein drink to get down today, but I have had not problem sipping water all day. I feel like I just finished 500 sit-ups. I get a little down when I think about the next full week of just clear liquids but my husband keeps reminding me that this part is only temporary. I am hoping to return to work 11/08 but today I am torn between staying up and pushing myself or just lay around and rest for the next couple days. -
anyone worried it won't work?
DebH replied to wakeuprn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded yesterday and I did not even tell my mother or my sister because I was afraid of their negativity. I have great fears that this will be just another failure in my life of weight control, but I keep pushing those fears to the back and keep my focus on my new lifestyle. I will also say that very single person that dealt with me at the hospital was encouraging and supportive, which did wonders in reducing my anxiety. -
Chef do you know how to become buddies on this site? I would love to keep in touch since we will be moving along together.
-
Catherine you look marvelous. I have a personal question for you. You lost a wonderful amount of weight and you look terrific in your after picture. Do you have a lot of extra skin? Is doesn't look like it in the picture. And if you did how did you tone it up?
-
Hey Chef, I too am getting banded on the 25th. We will be starting our journey together. I wish you all the best!

Approved! Now waiting for a date...
DebH replied to denalichic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have my pre-op appt. with my surgeon this Thursday. We were hoping for the 25th or 26th for my date but I still haven't heard from my insurance and it is making me crazy. I am really hoping it is within the next two weeks or I will have to go through the pre-admission testing all over again. UUGGGHHH! I think you should go for the soonest date they give you because the waiting is very anxiety provoking...at least for me it is. Good luck and best wishes for consistent weight loss! -
In my nutrition classes I have been told that I should expect to lose about 60 lbs. I was hoping closer to 90-100 lbs. I know it will take a while and am willing to put in the work and the time, but which projection is more realistic?

Negative comments about getting LapBand
DebH replied to tryingtolose100's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have only shared my pending surgery with my husband, daughter (not even my adult son), my secretary, and two friends (one who was banded about 15 months ago.) I am very reluctant to share with any others, including some family members, because of the negative attitudes. I also have a long history of losing weight only to gain it back so I myself am apprehensive as well and feel the more people that know the more pressure I will feel. At this point in my decision I am focusing on me and my health as well as my mental well being related to me self image. Those that know and are supportive are just the bonuses! -
Emotional Roller Coaster
DebH replied to javalishus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too feel that emotional roller coaster. Like Danamomto1 I started the process in June and things were moving nicely and then at my Sept. appt. my doctor wanted to schedule me for the beginning of Oct. I was so not ready. I have an appt. this week to begin pre-admission stuff, ekg, bloodwork, chest x-ray, etc. All of my other pre-op tests have cleared me. I am hoping that I will be able to get a date near the end of Oct. Excited but so nervous and apprehensive as well.
