I had my surgery 9/30 and I still have gas pain *sigh*
  2. That would be great.... I barely remember what that feels like.

    FINALLY banded!!!!!

I hope mine doesn't stick out when I loose the weight....
  4. I got banded a week ago today!!! It was a tough and stressful week. I had the worst pain for several days. All the pain I have left is the sharp pain in my left side when I breath deep and the left side shoulder/neck pain. The lump in my throat comes and goes. I still get extremely exhausted doing things around the house or even walking. I am getting at least 11oz. of my shake in finally!! And I had 4 cups of water today  Stepped on my scale and I'm 12.7lbs lighter than the day of surgery. I'm still starving for food, but I usually have a little soup and it tides me over for awhile. But between the water and the shake I'm not able to get anything else down. I know I'm not getting near enough protein, but I don't know what else to do. I could never finish another shake...

I bought some of those at Costco and there is something about them that upset my tummy. I sipped on one for awhile and I could feel it not agreeing. I need to find the receipt so I can take them back. But thank you for the suggestion
  6. I thought you needed to be close a BMI of 40 or more to be considered for weight loss surgery?? I know my insurance required a BMI of 40 or more for them to cover it.... So maybe that is where I got that number from.
  7. Bwahahaha!!!!! I never heard it put that way.....
  8. Have fun  However I was thinking a grape is cute and small .... just be thankful you won't look like an eggplant :-| Hope you post some pic of the wonderful event. I miss those. My husband was 1st Cav. and they were always fun.

    I am hurting badly...

My dr said you could take up to 4000 mg of Tylenol in a 24 hr period in addition to the pain meds. I'm a big wuss when it comes to pain....
  10. I was debating on going to the lap band support group here. Just wasn't sure it would be for me or find it helpful for the effort. But you're right Grace it doesn't hurt to try just one. I have come to love this site and forum. I have received such great and informative advice. I'm on here through out the day almost everyday reading the stories. I hope you all know what wonderful people you are and I for one appreciate everyones input. Thank you for helping me through my first week post op <3

    2nd thought

Yep Pegs.... I was right there with you. I got banded 9/30 and several days afterwards I was crying and thinking what the hell have I done to myself. I was in pain, extremely hungry, drugged w pain med. Blah!!!! But today I'm doing ok. I'm starting to find out what works for me to have me feel better. Like when I wake up I have a lump in my throat and I feel tight. So I make myself a cup of hot tea. I have the most wonderful loose leaf tea. Then after I loosen up I will start drinking my shake. It takes me several hours to get down a shake. Then I might have a sugar free popsicle for a afternoon snack ... So on and so forth. I think Pegs you need to find out what works for your body and things will get better  I know we are not alone. This forum helped me out a bunch after my surgery <3

I'm really not thinking about the food I could have really. I've been cooking for my husband and really haven't been wanting to eat his food. We went to the Olive Garden and I had the chicken gnocchi soup broth  that was like my first yummy thing and I licked the garlic salt of the remaining breadsticks. After that night I didn't miss food all that much... I knew my life was going to change and I know it will be a matter of time before I can get more yummy food. I'm ready for my mushies .... bring it on

    Hummus

Hiddn.... Sounds like your cat has been having fun. You better tell your cat to stay away from that chocolate. LOL!!!
  14. I feel the same way as most of you ladies. I had a friend who got the by-pass surgery and when she lost all the weight she went WILD!!! She had been married over 10 yrs and she started going out more w the girls and ended up cheating on her husband, doing drugs and drinking more. She had always been heavy and now she was making up for lost times. I'm in my late 30's and I've only been married for about 4 yrs. He only knows me being fluffy, but he has seen my skinny pics and he seems to drool on them. But, I try not to worry about it too much- I'm doing this for me and my health. I love him and I know I want to spend the rest of my life with him, but I know if me losing weight effects our relationship negatively there is not much I can do about it because I'm not going to stay fluffy just to please a man. I want a man to love me for me, not what I look like and it seems that is what type of man I have now. But you never know until the time comes when I am thin.

    Hate to exercise...

I got Wii fit and I really like it. I know some people can't afford that but it was on my Christmas list last year and 4 people in the family pulled together and got it for me <3

    Need more protein!

I buy the pre made shakes at trader joes called pure protein. They have 35g of protein in a can. I don't know about most of you but it's hard for me to drink the protein shakes so I try to get as much protein in one shake as possible. So of you are sooooo creative with your shakes and they sound delicious, but to be honest I just want to grab and go. Maybe I will get to a point were I will spend more time making my shakes, but it took me 4 hours yesterday to get that 1 can of protein shake down *sigh* but I know it will get better
  17. Ah ok Honk.... I wasn't sure.... I just saw it on YouTube and thought it was interesting.

    Grits

I use to eat malt-o-meal. I don't know if I can eat it any more. I'm scared to try when I'm able to eat again that is. I really loved couscous but found that it's a big carb, so I switched to quinoa and it has more protein. Approx 5g protein for 1/4 cup. Not a lot but it's better than a total carb.
  19. My incisions are bigger than everybody elses. I feel like a science project  The dr said it was because I have a thick abdomen wall. Sounds like he just didn't know what he was doing. Most people I know have one one of their incision in their belly button so you really can't see it. I've seen on YouTube that they are doing the procedure with one incision. That would have been awesome.
  20. I had my surgery on 9/30. I'm still on my pain meds. They gave me 60 pills and I have about half left.
  21. The one that is fresh in my memory is the disabled Veterans take a ski trip once a yr. My husband and I have never been snow skiing. So since my husband is a disabled Veteran we went to the outing. My legs were so fat they couldn't fit in any of the ski boots. And since I really didn't have snow clothes, they had extra gear that I could use. Nothing fit me. I was so embarrassed. I had to sit at the lodge with nothing to do except reflect on how fat I was. My husband said we could go home, but I put on my game face for him and told him to have a great time that I would embark on other activities (which there wasnt anything else unless I wanted to sit at the kiddy table with the toddlers). I hope when it's time for the trip next yr I won't face the same problem.
  22. Here are the name of the " lap band" apps: My Band Fill-$3.99, Band Genius-$4.99, BariMate-$9.99 and iGastric Band-$3.99. Please go over the reviews befor you purchase. I absolutely love the app MyNetDiary. It's a free app and it has a log for my food, exercise, water intake and otherthings. It has a spot to do you own notes and a place for pictures. And one of my favorite things is it is FREE!!! It has pretty good reviews. I'm not sure if these apps are available on the Droid....
  23. Hi :) I saw your post and saw that you were about the same height and weight as me when I first started to and wanted to chat a bit more about your journey :)

    Bandsters are scaring me!

Fay, I wish I really knew what I was in for. My dr didn't tell me how hard it was going to be, especially the pain. But if you read through here some people experience hardly any pain. I'm think I'm a pretty tough cookie having to suffer through back pain for yrs and refusing to get surgery. I got banded 9/30 and it was hard. It's hard for me to get liquids down of any kind. I have a lump in my throat, sharp pain in my side when I breath and my left shoulder and neck are KILLING me. I cry when my husband isn't around because I don't want him to worry about me. But, this morning I cooked breakfast for my honey <3 it felt good. It took all my energy but I was proud of myself. I still constantly sip on water and have water glasses everywhere... I feel like that little girl in the movie Signs that has glasses of water everywhere. But, I've learned that sugar free popsicles and me crunching on ice helps my lump in my throat. I went earlier today and got a chair massage for my tension. I will say I'm hungry all the time though. I keep saying to myself just one more week and I can have a little more. If there is one thing I can say is STAY on your pain meds. After a few days I stopped and I felt really bad. But I'm back on them and I feel better. You might have little to no pain at all like some others. Everybody is so different.... But I wouldn't let the negative vibes here change your mind You can do it :tongue2:
  25. I'm sooooo hungry..... I guess I will go have a sip or two of my sucky broth now LOL!!!
