  1. I'm so glad I'm not alone on this one. I knew people were having problems, but I couldn't find the answers. I researched what 'good restriction' felt like and I don't feel less-hungry or satisfied when I eat. It's a bummer, but I hope it works out with less fill. I'm still losing weight but that's because I have been exercising and eating lots of fruit and vegtables. Cheers, WrenBird :wink2:
  2. When I was in hospital I was being cared for by a nurse who had it done sometime in May and had lost 30kgs. Everyone there was supportive...I think your aunt is confused... When I told my doctor I wanted to get it done she told me that it was a high risk procedure and there's a lot of cutting of the stomache involved...She also told me that the stomache was a very 'dirty' area which increases the risk of infection... Turns out she didn't know what lap banding was. It's your body. There's more risks for being obese than there is for the lap band. Get it done anyway and when they see how well you're doing, it'll all be fine :-) Edit: Your aunt might also be jealous...I can imagine my aunt being jealous if I told her.
  3. This is going to sound like a really silly question but...Have you tried different scales? The other day I weighed myself and it said I'd put on 10 kilos...I changed the batteries and it went back to normal :-) You could also try getting your body fat % tested, and then do it again in a few months time to see if it's muscle mass youre putting on, while taking off fat.
  4. You could try splitting it into 4 parts and take one very slowly at a time, just to be safe.

    Is this normal?

It's possible you're still swollen from the surgery. You could try eating the yogurt over a period of 20 minutes. I had swelling from my surgery about 6-8 days after my surgery, maybe even more. You may also have a small band. :-) Don't stress...Just wait it out.
  6. I think you're right...It just sounds so bizaare to me that having less fill will make me feel less satisfied and still hungry and having more fill does the same thing, but with varied eating habbits. It's hard to wrap my head around but I think that might be the problem. I'm worried for the other person who's still having these issues and has had 4 fills already. I really hope I don't have that problem. Needles freak me out :wink2: Basically my daily routine goes like this: A piece of fruit (usually an orange without the pulp), and a 20 minutes walk Another piece of fruit and another 20 minute walk Soup or vegtables, and another 20 minute walk. Sometimes I just eat what my mum cooks me...I'm lucky like that, but sometimes there's nothing to eat but her cooking (which is fabulous, but sometimes full of calories). I feel hungry after everything I eat, like it doesn't make a difference. I'm trying to restrict my eating quite a bit, but it's torturous. If I ate more it honestly wouldn't make a difference (as I determined last night), so I figure I might as well eat a lot less and suffer through it, that way I'll atleast get some weight loss.

    Feeling full...

I just wish I had any kind of full feeling when eating. I still get hungry...I'm eating as much as I did before I got the band...It's a shame. The only reason I'm losing weight it because I work my butt off everyday and eat healthy food.
  8. Those fills are frightening to me...I'm almost possitive they pierced the wrong part for me...They had to do it twice because the first time the needle wasn't long enough, even though it got through the port. The first time they tried it made a popping noise, and the second time they did it in an entirely different place and it didn't make any noise, or it didn't really feel much like they had to pierce through the port. Freaky :-/ I'm still having issues with my fill too...I think I have too much at the moment.
  9. I don't know much about those things, but the more I hear the creepier it sounds...Hopefully by November I'll be less body-conscious. :wink2:
  10. There's a part in the port that's metal that may set off a metal detector...I'd assume that'd be rare, but it's apparently possible. I have to fly next month and if I have the problem, I'll just show them my card :-)
  11. Sorry, I just want to make this a little more out there: I eat well besides the experimental Pasta I had last night (I had that to see if I could eat a lot of food and still be hungry). Shortly after I finished the pasta, I made this thread. I 'grazed' on it, which I'm sure was the reason I could eat so much of it. Also, the part where it 'hurts' to go down is about solid food, which I don't eat. This isn't the problem, the problem is that I'm not getting good restriction, only bad restriction. If anyone has experienced this problem and had a solution (like if it's curable through having less fill) please let me know!
  12. Hmm, it's so weird that people say they feel 'hurty' when they've eaten too much...I know I can eat A LOT and not feel that. I only ever feel that when I don't chew something properly. lol. Is Optifast considered proteine? I was contemplating going back onto that stuff to see if that would work. If it does then I'm assuming my fill needs to be adjusted to a smaller amount...I'd never thought in a million years that having less fill would actually help me in losing weight. If that's the case then I'm assuming it means I need less fill for stuff to go down easily, thus giving me the chance to eat quicker and making me fuller? Grazing isn't good...I just end up eating a lot. Yeah I know what you mean about eating well. Really the only mistakes I've made are Pasta which I've only just heard from this thread are bad...But it goes down so easily lol. I exercise an hour a day and try to keep my calorie intake under 1000 calories a day (used to be under 500, but that was more of a problem than a solution). I think that's why I'm losing weight. At the moment the band has really only helped me eat more liquidy foods. I know I shouldn't complain because I'm losing weight but I've spent a lot of money on this thing and it'd be great if I got the restriction results that everyone else was getting. I just can't help but think the only reason I've lost weight is because I've worked really hard at it. My main motivation for working my butt off is 'you've just spent so much money on this thing, don't let it go to waste!'...lol... One of the main reasons I got the band was because I hate being hungry lol...I know that sounds silly, but being hungry makes me irritated. Plus I'm fat and needed it, but my main motivation was to stop the hunger. I wonder if it's because I have too much fill? That's definately why I'm grazing...Maybe I need to eat easy to swallow foods a little quicker... Thanks for your input. :-) I am so glad at around this time that I live in Australia ahahaha that way I won't have the temptation of halloweeen and thanksgiving food. Eeek :-/ lol.
  13. By full I mean 'no longer hungry'. People have explained to me what restriction feels like and unfortunately that's not what I'm experiencing. :-( "Cut your food into small pieces, and chew enough that nothing you swallow is larger than a pencil eraser. Eat slowly enough that you can "listen" to what your body is saying, in terms of satiety." That's something I have to do in order for it to not get stuck. Things don't get stuck anymore because I'm very frightened of it hurting. It getting stuck isn't really the issue for me, it's more that after I eat foods that I can eat, I still feel hungry...Apparently I need resitrction. Apparently it getting 'stuck' isn't resitrction lol.
  14. The getting stuck part doesn't bother me. Sorry, but I probably should've made it a little clear that that's not the issue here. I do eat soft foods and I chew them very very well. "First, why are you serving up 'massive' bowls of anything?" (Response earlier in the thread) "(besides the pasta, of course, but that was more of an experiment to see if I'd still feel hungry)." This isn't a regular thing. I don't eat huge bowls of pasta everyday. The only pasta I really eat reguarly was before my fill and that was the canned spaghetti kind (for kids) that slipped through the band easily.
  15. Hmmm yeah...Don't get me wrong though, I have to chew it until it turns into a paste and take a pea sized bite everytime lol. I can pretty much eat anything I want as long as it's chewed enough (though I haven't tried red meat). My band is very tight though, if I eat too quickly I have problems even getting soup down. I didn't know pasta was a no-no...Before I had my fill I could eat spaghetti easily...Like it slipped through the band really easily. Same with bananas...Maybe the pasta thing is a conspiracy, because it actually seems pretty easy for me to eat lol.
  16. Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one. I searched and searched and I knew other people were having the same issues as us, but no one had answered them! Yes, it pretty much is grazing what we're doing...I ate a massive bowl of Pasta tonight and it took me about 2 hours to eat but afterwards I was still hungry... I think all of the weightloss I've been experiencing has just been from me exercising an hour a day and eating healthy foods (besides the pasta, of course, but that was more of an experiment to see if I'd still feel hungry). I've been working my butt off and I'm just so worried that spending so much money on this procedure has been a waste. It could just be something simple that can be easily fixed...I hope so. Eeek. Anyways thanks so much for letting me know. I hope all goes well tomorrow  Cheers, Lauren
  17. Thankyou :-) The hurty pain doesn't bother me at all because I don't eat food like that anymore, it's more that I don't get full on the types of food that I can eat. Cheers, Lauren
  18. Hi, Trying to stay calm here. I would be talking to my surgeon right now about this but it's a long weekend and he's not in the office. So here's the thing: I had my surgery exactly a week ago. Today I went for a long drive and my belly button started to bleed. I've got pains allover my torso and behind my belly button. There's areas on my stomach that feel kind of hard and some that feel kind of soft. It also hurts to eat - could this be the band slipping? I haven't puked yet. -Wren
  19. Do you mean stitches on the inside? eek...That is freaky. I didn't have an incision in my belly button to my knowledge so if I'm bleeding internally that may be a problem.
  20. :-/ It's not bad enough bleeding to go to the ER I reckon. I live far away from the nearest hospital, otherwise I may have considered it at lunchtime when I realised that my belly button was bleeding. It's stopped now, there wasn't much blood. Is anyone else experiencing this or has experienced it? Or even know what it could be? I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow. I really hope I'm not the only one. -Wren

    What's for lunch today?

Yep! Bought from the baby food section in Woolworthes lol. I've only had my band for a few days and I'm already able to stomach baby food if I eat it slowly. The oatmeal ones are harder, but if you mix Water with them they're goooood :-D Baby food is actually pretty healthy - The one I had the other day the ingrediants were only: apples apple juice blueberries oatmeal

    What's for lunch today?

    Cheesybake baby food! lol.
  24. Don't stress. Yesterday I did the same when my mum was making a cake - it was sugar and butter creamed together...Then when the cake was done I had a piece with a glass of Water. ...Yes, I feel dirty.

    Drinking while eating???

I'm not sure but it's really hard for me. I don't feel full when I eat - I just feel hurty...So if I don't have a glass of Water when I eat to wash it down it hurts a lot to get it down.
