  1. Hi!

I'm going through Orange Coast Memorial's Center for Obesity (aka Peter Leport's Smart Dimensions group). My surgeon is Dr. Francis.

    Hi Alisomniac!

I am a patient of Dr. Chin in the same office and just got banded on October 27! Are you going to any of the support groups? I am going to the one this Thursday at Fountain Valley Hospital! Maybe we will see each other in the office!

  2. :)

Hi Doug, congrats. I have to say, walking was the best thing I could do for the gas. But please, get your protien shakes down or you will not have the energy to walk. Are you using vitiamins? I do a chewable C and a sublingual B-12. Can't do the multi one, it makes me sick to my stomach, even now 4 weeks out. Good luck:thumbup:

Thanks AG! Well, I was able to get some good Protein shakes from a Nurtrition store locally where the owener actually had Lap Band surgery so he was very helpful with the Proptein mix and some great powdered Vitamins that I mix into my Protein drink!

I am using Nutek Pro5 for the Protein Drink and Nutek Nature's Fuel as the Vitamin supplement. They have two flavors of each and I found the chocolate flavor protein with the berry flavor natures fuel works best for me.

Gas pains are getting better and I am walking them off!

  3. Well, the surgery is done (Wednesday 10-27-10) and now I am recovering at home and decided to stop by here again for some great advice. I am still in the "gas pain" stage but have stopped taking the pain meds. I wish there was a better solution for the gas pain but I am doing everything I read here at Lapbandtalk including; Mylanta, Gas-X. Heating pad, and walking but I am looking for any other suggestions. Amazingly I have lost 13 pounds since weighing myself last weekend! I guess the gas pains are keeping me from taking in fluids as much as I should. Looking forward to the next steps!

  4. Gas advice?

Feel free to fart frequently. Move around a lot to break it up. Hot bath can get you farting. Some people swear by gas-x. Others by papaya. Walk around and do something noisy so people don't know you're farting. I like to sharpen pencils. LOL.

For me, avoid sourkraut. Avoid chocolates with the sugar alcohols instead of the sugar. Also, some SF high Protein granola bars or protein bars have chicory root or its active ingredient, inulin in them. As Jim Carrey would say, "Do not go in there."

More good advice! Thanks to all for the insight! Counting the days until surgery and hoping everything goes well.

    10 DAYS!!! :)

  5. Is your kitchen ready?? Protein drinks? ? Something to mix them with?? I bought a "Magic Bullet" and used that a lot the first few months.... and we still use it... especially like it for grinding coffee Beans. When the time draws closer you might want to get some SF popsicles for your freezer.

How about things like Gas-X strips, liquid tylenol??

Thanks Phyllser! I am making up my list prior to surgery and added in the items you listed. I am anzious but ready! :)

  6. Two weeks until surgery. Mind is ready, body is ready, heart is ready. What am I missing?

I know it will be a little scarier :tt2: the closer it gets to the actual day. Advice always welcome over 50 gang!

    Surgery Date: 10-26-10

    Current Weight: 298

    Goal Weight: 190

  7. After making my decision to have Lap-Band surgery I was first denied by my Insurance Company (United Helath Care) in 2009. The Weight Loss Clinic helped to appeal the denial of service but it was denied again. Luckily, my company changed insurance carriers in 2010 to Anthem Blue Cross. At the beginning of the year I did not think about re-applying for the surgery, since I was denied by United, but then someone told me that they had it approved and I started my research again to see if Anthem would provide the surgery and approve it. I did a lot of research on the Anthem web site and found the Medical Policy for Surgical Weight Loss. After contacting my Weight Loss Surgeon again (almost a year later) they were happy to resubmit my paperwork to Anthem without doing any additional Doctor visits or other tests or appointments! This time I did not leave in the hands of the Insurance Company and Doctors office to provide the follow-up, I called on a regular basis to the Insurance Medical Management department and the Doctor's office. After going away on vacation for two weeks, and contacting the Insurance Company when I returned, I was finally approved for out patient surgery for my Lap Band! YEAH!

Surgery Date; October 26th! 14 days and Counting!

    I am READY!

  8. Hi! I am new to LapBandTalk after just receiving approval for surgery last week. I would like to see if there are others in the 50 something range that are going through this. After making my decision to have Lap-Band® surgery I was first denied by my Insurance Company (United Helath Care) in 2009.
