  1. One thing I love to do is go to candlelight church service on Christmas Eve; however, I haven't had a pair of pants that fit me in over a year. I have been too proud to buy bigger (actually much bigger) pants, so I thought I would just wait it out until I lost enough weight to fit into my smaller pants.

Well, I didn't think it would happen this fast, but now only 4 weeks post-op I am again able to fit into my pants which were 8 sizes too small just 4 weeks ago!!!!

    YAY!!! I am so happy!!!

  2. The spreadsheet has been updated. Please let me know if I made a mistake or missed your weigh in!

We had a blast at Disney! It was so beautiful and decorated for Christmas! It even snowed in the Magic Kingdom while we were there.

Also, if you have a food allergy, I would highly recommend adding Disney for a vacation spot. My husband has Celiac disease, and they catered to him and he ate like a king all week (and didn't get sick!). We would go back just for that!

I'm still looking for someone to take over the challenges when this one is over. Here's why :)

Congrats Steph! That is great news!!!

  3. Well I am a little hurt by my Mexico team. Since we had to leave a day early and I didn't have my last meeting with @@Dr. Altamirano I really thought someone would have called me. Or even emailed me here. I can't believe they aren't curious about how I am doing after surgery or how things went for you in The San Diego hospital. They treated me great while I was there but the lack of follow up has me hurt and sad.

Anyone from MX contacted you yet? Seems they are in hiding.

  4. Of course you can. Give us an update on your sleeve journey.

My lap-band to gastric sleeve revision surgery was on November 20th. I had to do a 2-week pre-op diet consisting of mostly Protein liquids along with a salad each day. Everything went great with surgery besides having a seizure at the hospital!!!

I had constant nausea the entire first week after surgery, but it's better now. I also try to walk every day even though I still don't have very much energy.

My biggest craves, believe it or not, are apples, bananas, tuna, and pizza. 3 out of 4 ain't bad I guess. Lol.

I am now 3 weeks post op and have lost 30 pounds. It's a decent start, but I still have a long way to go.

    Good luck to everyone!!!

  5. So sorry this happened!

Mexico is waging a serious war on drugs. When I went down for plastics, I brought vicadon because once leave the clinic and become out patient they can not prescribe "narcotics". It worked out fine since they controlled the pain so well the first 3 days I was in the clinic.

I'm so sorry! I had a kidney stones years ago and to this day it was the worst pain I've ever had. I hope it passes for you soon.

On another note, I love reading about you both. I loved following your wife's Mexico story and her picture before surgery. I think it's so wonderful you've gone thru all this together.

Take care of yourself and each other!

Thank you both so much for your concern. I really appreciate it.

I still haven't passed the stone, but thankfully I have good meds to help control the pain.

  6. I am so sorry you had to go through all of this. I am sorry I haven't been much help since having my surgery on Monday. I am so happy we went to San Diego though and you got some good care. Now please just pass the stone so you can feel better!!!

Yeah, I have to give major props to Scripps Mercy Hospital ER in San Diego. They did a WONDERFUL job taking care of me. I can't thank them enough. They alleviated my pain and nausea within minutes.

I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't get checked on once I was home either. I feel a bit forgotten like you. I'm glad you're doing well though.

Sorry. I am doing great but have soreness and low energy. Been a wild week. My husband got food poisoning then kidney stones while we were there.

Glad everything went well with you. You are doing great!!!

Are you feeling better? I haven't had kidney stones but I hear they're quite awful.

I'm sorry they haven't checked on you either. Definitely room for improvement there on their end.

As far as my kidney stone and experience in Mexico, I didn't want to derail this thread with my issues so I started my own thread here: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/357091-my-painful-experience-in-mexico/

I don't blame you for feeling that way at all. :(

  9. I went with my wife to have her sleeve surgery in Mexico with Dr. A. As far as that went I think things went great and she is doing well. HOWEVER, my experience in Mexico is a totally different story which I feel others need to know about.

I ended up getting food poisoning and then kidney stones. I even had to rush to the ER in San Diego because the Mexico doctors were unable to control my pain and nausea after multiple attempts with a multitude of different medications. I was in severe pain and very nauseous for around 24+ hours, but nothing they did helped.

I guess the drugs in Mexico just aren't that strong and are watered down OR I just wasn't given any of the good stuff. I was completely miserable. I know the hospital was trying their best to get a hold of doctors to help me and then a couple of different doctors disagreed over what they thought was wrong with me, but I already knew I had a kidney stone. I didn't need a medical degree to figure that out because I have had kidney stones 5-6 times previously and it felt the exact same as before. Anyone that has had kidney stones at least once in their life know exactly what they feel like the next time. There is no mistaking it for something else.

But MUCH thanks to Rosa and Juan. They went above and beyond trying to get me back to the states to receive the care I needed. Rosa was so sweet and caring. She was willing to call a US ambulance and drive me to the border where the ambulance would me pick me up and take me the rest of the way into Sand Diego. She was then going to stay the night with my wife in the Mexico hospital. I decided to tough it out another night because I didn't want to leave my wife alone in Mexico no matter how bad of shape I was in. So, the next morning we were discharged from the Mexico hospital and went to the recovery house. I was feeling ok for the moment but later that night the kidney stone pain came back with a vengeance as it moved within my urinary tract and I toughed it out some more until the next morning when ultimately I couldn't bare the pain anymore. After a few hours Juan was able to find me an Uber ride to the San Diego ER.

The pain was almost unbearable (as anyone that has ever had a kidney stone knows), but THANKFULLY once I finally arrived at the ER in San Diego I received proper care where they were able to 100% confirm kidney stones and control the pain and nausea within 2-3 minutes. That's right...within 2-3 minutes and not 24+ hours. I haven't passed the kidney stone yet, but at least I have meds that can help mask the pain until it passes. I just hate I had to shell out $600+ extra while in the Mexico hospital even though I didn't receive any successful treatments.

Also, a big thanks to Little Robert and Morgan for their friendship and to the nurses, Dr. A, and another doctor for trying to help even though they were unsuccessful.

Thankfully we are home now, but haven't had anyone from BariatricPal MX check on me or my wife (since we had to rush and leave Mexico a day early due to my kidney stones), but I'm sure they have been trying to reach us...

  10. I am doing pretty good. Sore on my left side. Some chest gas pains. Been very active because the night of my surgery my husband got good poisoning then kidney stones. At one point we shared a room and were both hooked to an iv. Sure was a funny sight. Not fun but have some crazy memories to look back on!!!

Thanks for taking care of me. Can't believe I got food poisoning and then kidney stones while in Mexico for your surgery. And had to be rushed back across the border to ER in San Diego because hospital in Mexico was unable to control the kidney stone pain and nausea.

Thankfully you had a great surgery and are doing awesome despite all of my attempts to derail your journey. Lol.

  11. Do mind me asking cash pay price? My health insurance does not cover anything related to weight loss.

No problem at all. We paid $4,000 which includes 2 nights in the hospital and then 2 nights in the BariatricPal recovery house. We flew here yesterday and they let us stay in the recovery house for free.

It really has been a great experience. They are even taking great care of me. Little Robert has gone out to get me an omelet and Gatorade for Breakfast and a salad and bottled Water for dinner.

  12. How can I contact his office? How long did she prepare to have the surgery? I am hoping to have it by April!

You can contact Dr. A, Ana, David, or Henry on here. They are all associated with BariatricPal.

She had been planning to have the surgery since the summer, but found out insurance wouldn't cover it. From that point things moved pretty quickly as it has been about 6 weeks since first contact with Dr. A and the BariatricPal MX team.

  13. My wife and I are in Tijuana as we speak. She just had her sleeve surgery with Dr. Altamirano TODAY and she is doing great!!!

I can't speak highly enough of Dr. A and the entire staff (Little Robert, Rosa, Eduardo, Morgan, etc.). I know I am forgetting others, but this place is superb. Everyone has been great. Very friendly, but also very professional.

We are in a new hospital room with all of the necessary medical amenities along with an extra bed for family, bathroom/ shower, phone, tv, reclining chair, etc. You can also make calls back to US for free if you need to contact family and friends.

No regrets so far and I don't anticipate any either.
