  1. Anxiety was my hidden surprise too. I apparently smothered that with food and fat before, I am finally mastering it in healthy ways but been working on it for a few years.

While I agree exercise has helped lessen the depression it didn't go away and I still go through rough bouts, especially now in the winter. What I didn't expect was to develop anxiety problems after weight loss surgery. No amount of exercise helps it. I'm hesitant to go on any medication because any and all medications make me gain weight. I've tried different coping skills but still struggling.

I agree. I had slight anxiety before but it seems to have gotten worse after WLS. Some days are better than others and I actually feel less stressed when I am out walking in nature.

  2. My wife and I are in Tijuana as we speak. She just had her sleeve surgery with Dr. Altamirano TODAY and she is doing great!!!

I can't speak highly enough of Dr. A and the entire staff (Little Robert, Rosa, Eduardo, Morgan, etc.). I know I am forgetting others, but this place is superb. Everyone has been great. Very friendly, but also very professional.

We are in a new hospital room with all of the necessary medical amenities along with an extra bed for family, bathroom/ shower, phone, tv, reclining chair, etc. You can also make calls back to US for free if you need to contact family and friends.

No regrets so far and I don't anticipate any either.

My sleeve is also with Dr A on Jan 27, your comment put me at ease. Thank you
I am glad I could help. Dr A. was phenomenal during the entire process through surgery and easy to reach and communicate with before surgery. HOWEVER, we have noticed he is much more difficult to get in contact with AFTER you make payment and have had your surgery.

We've been trying for over a month to get pictures he took of my wife while she was having surgery. Dr. A hasn't come through at all so we reached out to Ana, but haven't heard back from her in 2 weeks either. So we contacted David and he replied back within 1 hour to let us know he was sorry this has happened and he will try his best to get us those pictures.

So to reiterate, they did an absolutely awesome job before, during, and immediately after surgery and would give them an A++++ grade. But once we went home in regards to after care and communication we feel a little letdown. But thankfully this website has more than enough info and support to keep us on track.

So don't hesitate to go with Dr. A as he did a great job and then keep coming back to BariatricPal for the much needed support and info you need. Good luck!!

I agree. My depression didn't go away and I fully expect that I'll deal with it the rest of my life unfortunately. But exercise has helped as well as this forum, weight loss support group, and my wife. Feel free to PM me anytime you need or want to talk or vent.

  4. I think it depends on why the person had depression to begin with. If they were depressed because they were overweight and now they aren't then that makes sense. But if someone has a chemical imbalance in their brain, the problem is still there even when they reach a normal weight.

I have suffered from major depression and anxiety most of my life. I've been on quite a few different meds to help, but not one of them has ever helped. However, in the last 2 months since surgery I have been eating less and exercising much more…and guess what? My depression has been much better.

  5. But I bought 10 tickets on my lunch break, so I am pretty sure I am going to win....

We bought 10 tickets also! Maybe we can split it ; )

I have a bunch too! Maybe we all have the same numbers and will be multi millionaires together. LOL!

I guess we are all going to win bc I'm pretty sure I also have the winning ticket. Lol. When I win I plan on starting a charity and giving a lot of it away.

  6. I just want to thank Alex and the BariatricPal team for all they have done over the years. This site is truly a blessing to me and countless others.

This site helps keep me focused and motivated, but more importantly has helped keep me alive!!! 2 months ago I couldn't walk to the mailbox without severe back and knee pain as well as becoming quite winded. But now, only 2 months later, I am able to walk up to 9.5 miles per day.

Alex and BariatricPal, you are truly a Godsend. Thanks for everything!!!

  7. I am 5 weeks post-op and would love to take part in this exercise challenge as well. Thanks so much for doing this!!!

    Starting weight: 317.2

    Goal Weight: 299.8

Exercise Goal: 2.5 hours per week

I am upping my exercise goal to 3.5 hours per week.
Yes! Awesome! I'm going to join you. I'd like to get in 5 hours of exercise a week up from 3. So far this week I've done 3 and I'm down to 209.4!
    That is awesome!!! Congrats!!

Today I walked 3 times for a total of over 15,000 steps and 7 miles.
