  1. My employer will be changing from our current insurance, oxford, to a new insurance company, cigna. What the hell am I gonna do! I had no problems with oxford covering the lap band, but cigna is saying that they do not cover the surgery! I cannot have my surgery done before my insurance changes because I still have a few more pre op appointments. It is not listed as an exclusion with cigna, but they do have an exclusion for weight loss programs and the rep was saying that this would be classified as a weight loss program!!! That does not make any sense! What should I do guys! This is the worst timing ever! Please HELP!!!

Exactly! Just relax and answer the questions truthfully and you'll be fine. Side Note: I cannot believe some of you had to answer so many questions and that it took so long for some of you. I was out of my car at 10:45 and back in my car by 11:05!:frown:

    The worst timing!

Guys thank you so much for your help! My hr department just got back to me and said that it is a covered benefit!:frown: I was so excited! I'm still wondering why cigna tried to say that it was not covered? I'm also concered that I might have to start my six month diet over. Hopefully not, but I'm still going to try and get most of my pre op apps done before my insurance changes.:mad2: Thanks again guys!

I have no other choice. I honestly hope he will be able to squeeze me in before January. Could you imagine going from having everything in place and having the surgery 100% covered, to possibly having to self pay! I am beyond pissed at this point!

    The worst timing!

I was going to waive the new insurance and use cobra, but my hr department said that you cannot use cobra if insurance is being offered. The only other thing I can do is hope that my doc will try to fit me in for surgery before January.

    The worst timing!

I actually called cigna to find out their requirements for the lap band and before they even got to that part, the rep tells me that gastric banding is not a covered benefit. I told her that my employer does not exclude it, and then she says that they exclude weight loss programs and that would fall under a weight loss program! I was beyond pissed. That does not even make sense. I'm about 3/4 done with my pre op appointments but i'm still in the middle of my 6 month waiting period.

    The worst timing!

Guys, Thank You so much for the advice! I have an app with my surgeon on the 17th, I am going to see what he can do for me. I still think it will be a long shot to have the surgery before 1/1/11, but I'm hoping he can help me out in this situation. My human resource department said that while we are switching from oxford to cigna, that the benefits would not be changing. So if oxford would approve it, cigna should approve it. So what would prompt cigna to tell me that it is not a covered benefit? I knew all of this was too good to be true.
  10. It was going great until he told me that with all the appointments and doctor visits, I would have to wait six months! That's okay though because between work, my family, and everything else, it probably will take six months to get all these doctor visits out of the way. How's everything with you?

  11. Hi Nellrose. I didn't get banded yet, but my consultation in on 10/15. I am so excited, I'm just ready to get going with all of this. I'm sure you should have no problem with getting approved after you switch your insurance. If anything, they might make you wait until the new year which is right around the corner anyway. Let me know how everything works out!

    Currently a 44DDD, trying to get to a 36D

Thanks Xavier! I just want to get some of the pressure off of my back without losing all of my boobies. So I'm hoping that I don't go any lower than a D cup.
  13. Wow! That has to be the fastest that I've heard so far. Less than a month between your consultation and your surgery. That's excellent! Good Luck! Keep in touch.

  14. Hello everyone! My name is Kiki and I am 24 years old from Brooklyn, NY. I have been on and off of diets since I got married and moved out on my own. Let's just say, hubby and I had a little too much of the good life..lol. He is also going to get lap band surgery. I have my first consultation on 10/15/10 and I hope everything goes well. I'm figuring with the tests and waiting for insurance approval, I should be looking at a January surgery date, which works out for me since I would like to be able to eat for the last time on Thanksgiving and Christmas..lol. I can't wait and I'm looking forward to meeting new people!! Good Luck to Everyone!

    New Here. Friends?

Hello Everyone! I am new and I have my consultation scheduled on 10/15, I already got my referral from my pcp, so I am still very much in the beginning stages. My question is for those of you that have lost over 100lbs, did any of you get alot of excess skin because I heard that the younger you are when you lose weight the less excess skin you'll have. I'm 24 and that has to be the thing that scares me the most other than the actual surgery because plastic surgery is a hell of alot of money..lol. Thanks!
