  1. Banded 8/26----first fill 10/15 (they made me wait until I was back from a trip to Vegas). I feel nothing, want another Actual process took 30 seconds.
  2. Congratuations! I am only 1 month out and already feel big changes. I am so happy for you!
  3. I had to pay the $200 also. It wasn't called a consultation fee, I don't remeber what they called it. I also had to pay a $150 fee for the Psych report.
  4. I have GHI PPO throught the UFT and they covered my lap band. Good Luck!
  5. I use, and am pretty happy with: Calorie Counter Database - Free Online Diet Program I really like the recipe analyzer. You can input the recipes you use the most and it breaks it down for you with a nutrition label. You can also track your activity on th activity log.
  6. Liquid Tylenol amd plenty of broth. Good Luck!
  7. I liked the swiss mocha (although I'm told its best to go with reg. chocolate), the banana creme & ORange. I HATED the orange. The other 2 were ok. I made them in the blender with skim milk, benefiber and ice. When I was out and about i'd fill the shaker they sent with my order with milk and ice and combine when ready. the ice made it combine quite nicely. Good luck! I have a couple of packets left if you'd like to taste them I could mail them to you. not sure which flavors, or how much time you have untill you need to start them...Or if you'd be comfortable with that
  8. First, you should find out the reason for the change in policy. If it's at the request of your employer...you have to ask the procedure for getting it approved on an individual basis. Good Luck
  9. Hi and welcome! I am just over 2 weeks post op and feel great! Well, except for this sciatic nerve flare I have going on--but I don't think that has to do with being banded. My first 2 days back at work were rough, not used to the constant activity. Otherwise I am adjusting well and I hope you do too.
  10. My surgeon insists on the calcium (I am female~~~I'll ask the guys at the support group meeting though). I take 1 Caltrate 600+D+minerals 2X/day. I've been using Calorie Counter Database - Free Online Diet Program , it breaks down everything you eat. Even having yogurt and pudding during weeks 1 & 2 I didn't hit the calcium requirements for the day. I also get weekly B12 shots (My pre-surgical testing showed a deficiency) and daily Multivitamins. My hair has grown 4 inches from this!
  11. Ever since I was in the hospital I have been experiencing sciatic nerve pain. It's becoming more frequent. At first I thought it was a result of the hospital bed and laying in unusual (for me) position for so long, but it isn't going away. I have this pain every now and again, but never this constant. Any suggestions? I don't see my surgeon again until 10/15.
  12. I really like the EAS AdvantEGDE low carb Protein shakes. I by them ready to drink in a 24 pack at BJ's Wholesale for about $26. :thumbup:They taste just like chocolate milk to me. My 6 year old has started having one in the morning instead of chocolate milk. I did the medi fast shakes pre-op and thought they were ok... Swiss Mocha and banana Creme were ok...I couldn't take the Orange (and I love orange flavored stuff).
  13. Hey August Bandsters! I am 2 weeks post op today and I feel great! My incisions are healing well and I have a little more energy. I'm on my high Protein puree phase of my diet (weeks 3 & 4). I am able to add soft fish, bean Soups, shredded chicken, low fat soft cheeses and soft cooked eggs! I practically jumped out of bed to fix myself Breakfast. I went back to work Tuesday and Wednesday and I have to say I was beat! and so thirsty (I got used to drinking able day long). This 4-day weekend is much appreciated. I hope all are doing well! p.s. I a, going to update my ticker tomorrow, I've decided to only weigh myself on Fridays.
  14. Welcome! Good luck on your journey!
  15. Congratulations! I have so many fears of being unsuccessful. That's one of the reasons I have told so few people. I returned to work today and and told a few more... it's so hard.. Good Luck to you!
  16. Hi there! I was banded a little over a week ago, and my process was the opposite of simple. I have GHI PPO and had to have 6 months of doc supervised weigh ins & surgical clearance from an array of specialists. I also had to meet with their nutritionist & attend a support group at their office. I hit some personal roadblocks along the way, some due to my lack of commitment to the process and some that were completely out of my control. When I attended my first educational seminar I thought hey, no big deal--I can do this. Then as each specialist required multiple visits I got discouraged. Needless to say I kept with it and am happy I didn't give up. I hope you have a seamless process, but if no----don;t give. Keep your eye on the prize! ~~M
  17. I think that everything in moderation is OK. I plan on having splurge days every now and again. I think that as long as I stay on lean & green 6 days, I can reward myself on the 7th. Thankfully with the band I won't be able to sabotage myself too much. I just know that with my history if I deny myself my craving foods for too long I'll fail. Good luck to you!
  18. Sounds like some left-over anesthesia side effects. I made my DD and nephew popcorn and pooped a piece in my mouth, I chewed it 1000 times. Feel Better:smile2:
  19. Hey Ali! I am returning to work 12 days post-op (thats when my 2010-2011 year begins. I've been pretty sore, but probably could've returned after one full week. I made sure to get a note that says no heavy lifting and that I need to be able to have acess to fluids all day long. One of my AP's is a (#*%( and I wanted to CYA. Good Luck!
  20. When I first woke up I was a little confused and somewhat sore. I asked the nurse for pain meds right away because I am not one to needlessly suffer. My surgery started about 9:45 am and by the time they took me from recovery to ICU (apparently all bariatric patients spend the night in ICU there) it was between 2-3 pm and I was excited because One Life to Live was on. I had my morphine pump by then and was cool. I woke up at around 4:30 AM with a killer headache and asked for Tylenol, they didn't want to give it to me because they said the morphine should be enough, but it wasn't, so I insisted. First 2 days home I was pretty uncomfortable, but it gets a little more comfortable every day. I'm 9 days post op and took my daughter to the mall that Tuesday (5 days post op). So, so far so good. The worst part for me is the tightening in the mornings. I feel the band every morning, in fact it wakes me up and I have to change position. Good Luck
  21. Hi Luke! I'm still healing from my banding, so I can't offer much advise as to living with it, or anything. I can tell you my reasons for choosing the band over bypass. #1, I was wary of the bypass procedure, #2 Needed the lesser healing time and lower risk I'm a single parent) and #3, while I know the band is meant to be permanent, I know that if need be it can be removed--bypass is permanent. I know people who have succeeded (and failed) with both. Maybe you should sit down and write a good old fashioned pro/con list? Good Luck!
  22. I am one week post op, after a nearly 2 year journey to get banded. I cannot believe I've finally done it (or that now the truly hard work begins)! I am 31 year old single working mom. The hardest part of this never ending liquid phase is cooking for others...I'm sure all that have to prepare food for their families agrees on that :scared2: Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hey
  23. Hi! I'm new too. Good luck on your journey!
