Something tells me it had to be chocolate ice cream! Unfortunately for me Summer = Icecream! Just don't beat yourself up over it. You are doing fine!

    Time magazine article on exercise

I do have to wonder about this article. Look at nurses, they work soooo hard and are on their feet constantly. There are quite a few nurse on this site that have been banded. I would like to see their take on this.

"More To Love" on Fox Network

Got a better one than this. Anyone watch Dance your A$$ off? Give me a friggin break! Just another kick in the A$$ for overweight people. They try to act like they are doing a "compassionate" thing briging obesity up front, but this is not the case. These shows are rediculous

    Time magazine article on exercise

Interesting article. I think what the article comes down to is that there is an over-ubundance of food, too much TV and sedentary lifestyles that won't be erased by an exercise routine if we don't watch our junk food intake. That does make sense, I guess! Interstinting to see what others think. Back in the 50's there were not supermarkets all over the place and my Mom bought the food we needed for the day at the variety store minus all the snack foods and sweets. There was not a lot of food left over to munch on. I was watching some old family movies from the 40's. They were all thin and doing things outside, no TV! They amused themselves and were definitely more active.

    Life is Good

Great post! I firmly believe if we take good care of our band and follow the rules, the band will take good care of us! We just have to keep reminding ourselves that it's all good.

    Any Lowellelians out there?

Hi Mgb, I had Dr. Jieser. I have heard Dr. Shore is wonderful. There is a post here from mrs 23b I believe, she mentions Dr. Shore. Would like to keep this thread going! Great to hear from local bandsters.

Embarassing but would appreciate some advice...

I am having a colonoscopy next month. Got my "clean out" instruction sheet yesterday. I am to go out a buy the 2 liter bottle of Golytely. YUCK. No looking foreward to that, but just thought I would pass that info on.
  8. My arms bug me too. From what I've read here and researched unfortunely people do turn to PS a lot for that stubborn area.

    Unbelievable!

New, Often times I find the answer to my question before I even need to post it. Just take your time to review the boards and just jump in. Give it time. We are all in the same boat and have similar issues.

    650 Pound Virgin

OMG, I watch all those shows late at night. Don't even get me started. Did anyone see the man that got the face transplant. That was amazing. And this elderly woman that had a fetus entombed in her body for like 30 years. It grew outside her womb. I like Big Medicine, the father and son bariatric team. The dad has such a cute accent! And the one about the Mexican guy that weighed a real lot (forgot how much) that wanted to go into town and they put him and his huge bed on a flatbed truck and drove down the freeway, but then had to turn around because I believe there was a bridge they were afraid to go under. There's some new show on about these woman giving birth and not knowing they were pregnant! Now that one is a little out there. I just can't believe you could go full term and not know you were pregnant! Both my kids kicked the heck out of me!

    I've lost my focus

dfav, I think you really hit the nail on the head! I have often felt thrown out to the wolves with the clinic only wanting to see me every 6 months 2 years out. If I need a fill or have any problems whatsoever, they are there for me, but I need to be accountable also and I brought this up to them. They are willing to work with me if I want to come in an get weighed more. Now unfortunately my new insurance does not cover my band, so I only call them on an as needed basis.
  12. I love this post! I am a medical transcriptionist. When I'm not working, I like to "trash" type. I know that sounds bad. I have a pet peeve about you're and your. My boss, a director, gets that wrong all the time and I like to be a priss about it and secretly gloat. My sister-in-law is an college professor and her spelling and writing are terrible. Being 55+ I find myself making more errors these days, but I love grammar and words! Used to love English and was always the teacher's pet. What can I say!

    Sound familiar?

I work in radiology, and often times the radiologists would make comments about the patient needing to lose weight and no wonder their back hurt when they needed a STAT MRI. They were just pissy because they had to come back in at night to read a film and do an injection. My doctor used to say hurtful things all the time. I often felt like saying, jee, wouldn't it be nice if ALL your patients were thin and healthy, that way you could stay home and have NO patients!!!! That same doctor did not want me to get the band initially. I see the nurse practitioner now and like to gloat when I walk past her now. She did say I looked look and "make sure you exercise and not put that weight back on". Unreal.

What do you eat when . . .

I keep a bottle of Hershey's syrup in the fridge. 1 teaspoon only has about 30 calories (don't quote me - too lazy to get up and check the bottle). I swirl that into my iced coffee - decaf. Really tastes good. I have 1 choc. (100 cal. GNC)Protein drink still a day. Treat this as my treat also sometimes with 1 tsp. of hershey or 1 tsp. of Peanut Butter with tons of ice. Also, as one of the other posters stataed, if I do splurge and give in once in a while, I treat that as my meal.

    I Need Help

Been there, done that! Like Jack said, sounds like you have hit a wall. I suggest you make an appointment with the nutritionist and go over your diet with him/her. I still like my Protein drinks, but limit it now to one a day and it's actually a treat with just Water added and a ton of ice, 100 calories, and I get my choc. fix for the day, but "hard" protein is best from food. I'm in the same situation with arthritis and living with pain on a daily basis, so I know how hard it is to exercise through the pain. I try to do it in 15 minute increments throughout the day. When I keep this up, I do see the scale move. You have lose 45 lbs. You are moving in the right direction, just takes some personal tweaking from time to time. This board is a great help. I find I behave myself better when I stick to reading this board every day. The before and after pictures really keep me going!

    What are your hobbies?

Blklab, I see you and I are the same age. It's a lot harder to learn to play paino now! I took lessons for over 4 years when I was a kid and thought it was all going to come back to me, picturing myself playing a piano bar (yeah..right!..lol). I have to really practice a LOT! It's fun though. I am about 1 1/2 years into my lessons this time around and still don't feel comfortable enough to play a tune for someone, but I'm getting there. I'm hoping I can play well enough down the road to volunteer playing at a hospital, church, etc. :smile2:

    Scared with my hair loss

Hi Emma, I agree with restless monkey. I also find two years out I go through phases of where I start losing my hair again, but then it stops. I use Rogaine for women. I have used it since the beginning because I can't afford to really lose a lot of hair. My hair is already baby fine. If you have nice thick hair to begin with, I would not worry about this.

    What are your hobbies?

I take piano lessons. When the urge to eat gets to be unbearable, I just pull up my piano stool and start banging the keys! Luckily I have a digital piano and can turn down the volume (I kinda stink). LOL, but it's all good!

    scared

Hi Rhonda, I love my band. I no longer have hypertension and no longer classified "morbidly" obese. I just switched insurance companies. They do not cover "morbid" obesity, my band or other conditions such as high cholesterol for one full year. I don't know how they get away with it. They consider these conditions things I brought on myself with my weight. The claims person compares this with a person who smokes. I think this is rediculous, but to not get off the subject you will LOVE your band. I advise you not read any negative posts for now. Those scare me even still. I advise the Before and after thread. It helped me make this decision two years ago. I love looking at the pictures! Really gives you a lot of encouragement and the people are so nice that post. Also, the Plastic Surgery thread is good too. I love to see what great improvements people have made. Good luck!

    Feedback on Curves Fitness Centers??

Thanks for the information on Curves. I think it's a great place to start for a person like me 55+.
  21. A lot of insurance companies now make you wait six months anyway under a supervised diet program. Can you start saving money get established with a good Lap Band doc and start saving your money? This will give you time to lose some weight too. Just a suggestion. I know this will take longer, but I'm two years out and still working on it, as many others are.
  22. lol.. I prefer to be rich and poe, but camping is out of the question. Don't do camping. So, I guess I would be rich, poor and stay at home! Nothing better than a great movie on Saturday night and some popcorn. Poor's not so bad!

I hate this, I really do....

Headhunter, What a nice thing to do! I could see that in never's posts also. Sometimes we just need someone to listen.

I hate this, I really do....

Yes, I agree to some point, but we all have to start somewhere. She is reaching out and we are here to listen. If anyone does not want to listen it's your option not to and not to say hurtful things. I am curious as to how old you are Never. Never you got some good advise here, now it's your option to use it.

    Haven't learned, not really

10 lbs. at a time. I like that too! I think I'll sit down and plan a 10 lb. goal for myself. This would make an interesting thread actually. Thanks Alexandra for starting this post. Nice to feel we are not alone in this!
