  1. Kooaburra, Have you every watched the show called "Ruby". It's a reality show following Ruby through her weight loss journey. It's a great show. She weighed over 700 lbs. at one time. I think she is down in the 300's right now. It's similar to your story. She has blocked out years of memory because of something most likely traumatic happening to her when she was young. She is seeling a psychologist and delving into the idea that her weight gain is acting as a barrier. You have gotten some great advise here!

    Anyone experienced anxiety&vomiting?

Absolutely yes, stress does a number on my band. When I am going through this I try to stick to my Protein drinks. The problem I had one time was that the stress made me want to eat even more and I found myself constantly PB'ing and really got myself into a rut. It passed, but I scheduled a consult with the psychologist to try to work out these issues that I have. Sorry you are going through this, but I find if I stick to bland foods and mainly liquids, I can get this under control.

Why do they keeping saying this won't work?

My clinic also recommened bypass, but I refused. Did they outright "refuse" the band or did they suggest the bypass? If you feel you can follow the band rules then you should go for it. I was firm with them and told them I did NOT want the bypass. I felt the same way about the bypass surgery. Did you get as far as a phychology consult?

    Betrayal is a BITCH

Sorry you are going through all this stress with this nutty woman stalking you. I am wondering if you could just lay low on the internet until this passes? I would suggest getting a new e-mail address and only conversing with people you know and trust. I am puzzled that these terrible things happen, teen suicide, etc. This might seem like a dumb question, but if these terrible things are happening (don't mean you in particular), why don't they stay off the internet? I don't consider it caving in, but rather getting out of the range of fire with these crazy people. I would just stick with the old fashioned way of using the telephone and talking to people directly to get away from these nuts.
  6. Why do some highly "educated" people have to act so stupidly smug? I'll never figure that one out.

    is this legal???

A major cost for surgery is the OR time and the anesthesia, surgeons bill, etc. My guess is they will only be charging you for the band itself seeing they will have you in there for the hernia repair. I would check it out closely though so you know "exactly" what you are paying for. Plus, if they do not cover the band, you will probably have to pay for all your fills and followups.

    I know it's not easy but ...

    Thanks Serenity! You go girl!

    I know it's not easy but ...

Serenity, this is a great thread! I see we are the same age. Let me just say that for me, I cannot say it was a breeze at all. I think the hardest thing to strugge with for me was trying to compare myself with others. I would get so jealous reading about others losing tons of weight and being able to get out there and exercise for hours at a time. Being 55+ I have to say I have different challenges than someone in their 20's and 30's and once I came to grip with this I felt a lot better about my progress being a bit slower. I have been through knee surgery, have a herniated disc in my neck and supervise a transciption company of 22 women. I have had some major pb'ing days from overeating because of my stressful job and have had a few visits with the psychologist to help me out with these things. BUT - if I really pay attention and let my band to its job and follow the rules, it's a wonderful journey and I love my band! I started walking a little at a time, now below to a gym and go almost every day! Every day is different and we have to be happy with OUR own personal goals and plateaus. Going from a size 3X top and 20 wide pants to an x-large top and size 14/16 pants is terrific for me! I am happy with that right now. I still have more to lose, but it's all good!
  10. I agree. She will be back. There are a lot of things here that do not make sense. She does not seem stable. I never realized that thinner people felt that way when we became thinner than them. That's very interesting to know. Is you "EX" friend single? Did a lot of the things you two do together revolve around eating out and things relating to food? I know that can be an issue.

Why is my band so fickle now???

I'm thinking acid reflux also. I get this once in a while and stick to bland foods and take over the counter meds. If it does not go away, I would check with the doc where this is something different for you outside of being preggers.
  12. Not sure is this will work, but trying to do a before and after picture. April will be my 3 year bandiversary and hoping to get into onderland by then! That is me with the dark hair.

    Great Food Finds

I love peach baby food. I take a teaspoon or two and add to my fat free yogort, not for nutrition, but it really makes it taste delicious. Never counted how many calories, but I don't think it's very much. Usually a couple of jars will last the week. I have also heard people use this on toast instead of jams. At WW's we used fruit baby food all the time.
  14. I know it's hard, but it takes time to find your little "niche" away from everyone. I am sorry your family is not being more supportive. Have you talked to your mother about this? My husband eats a lot of bad stuff. He's thin and does not put on very much weight. He loves his twinkies, candy, etc. I put all that aside on top of the fridge. It really helps if you keep low cal munchy stuff around to help fend off grabbing their stuff. It's not easy, but hopefully you will figure this out.
  15. Hi ladies, This is my problem. I had mostly black and brown clothes. Have had to replace most and have problems with matching things. I bought these new brown high boots to wear with a brown skirt, but they really actually look better with the black slim skirt for a job interview. Would you wear brown boots with a black skirt?
  16. Just want to add that this is a great thread! I hope we can keep this going.
  17. Gonna, this is SOOO freaky. My 3 year anniversary is same time, give or take a few days and I have that same goal. We should join up and support each other. I also want to lose about 30 lbs. for my 3 year check up. I just joined a gym and am really, really trying hard to get out of this slump. I started out at about the same weight as you also. I just want to get under that 200 mark.

Fashion question - black with brown?

Thanks you kkarryall! Sorry I took so long to respond. I have been having computer issues. I did well on the interview and was offered the position, not really the hours I wanted, but it's OK for now. BTW, I made a mistake on my resume. Had a typo in my phone number! Jeeze...just a warning to anyone reading this. Be sure to check that resume for errors. I felt really dumb for not catching this as I am a medical transcriptionist.
  19. Good Post, Actually my daughter said I looked "smaller" and "shorter" after my weight loss.

    Fat = Low Self Esteem?!?!?!

This is a really great post! You make a really good point! I don't think I had low self- esteem, but may have been more self-conscious about the way I looked. Something interesting though, and I hate to admit this, but since the weight loss I do notice some, not all, people are actually nicer to me. That REALLLY bothers me to no end. I have seen this in my own family and that really hurts.
  21. Nancy & Kimaly, I agree with you two also on "riding the white pony" remark. I thought those nasty derogatory remarks would have gone away by the 21st Century. Kimaly, I agree with all your comments on this post. I can see you are also a "lady".
  22. My mother-in-law is 82, does not know how to write out a check, has never had a job, basically just lives day to day and has been well tended to by my father-in-law for 62 years. So, I would have to say, yes, back at 29 years old I have had more life experiences that she.

    issues with alcohol after surgery

This is a great place to come for help. I have seen a few posts relating to this issue. Sorry about your brother. It is such a worry. At the weight loss center possibly you could make an appointment with the counselor? Replacing one addiction (food) with another is a very real issue with this kind of surgery and this happens. This is a great place to go for advise!
  24. Point well made, but we are all here to help each other out. I will take any advice/help anyone wants to give. If I ever try to reach out "by accident" being 55, I apologize in advance.
