  1. All sounds too familiar! I've been banded since 2010 but in 2013 I started having problems so had all the Fluid taken out, put back on all my weight and more! In March this year I decided to try again and started getting fills, everything was going great and 47lbs lighter I was feeling really positive. Then, for no reason I started getting reflux to the point I was vomiting all the time (just the acid) and it varied in colour from brown to black! Attended bariatric nurse and got some fluid out, symptoms didn't improve so I got all fluid removed. I'm in the UK and although I paid for my band privately I went to my GP and asked for an X-ray to make sure everything is ok........just waiting in the results of that fingers crossed all is ok and I just needed a rest. My fear is putting weight back on!! X

  2. I posted a couple of weeks ago about really bad acid reflux, I got 0.25ml taken out and it has gone but has now been replaced by smelly burps!! They taste horrible & it's really embarrassing, I'm constantly eating mints to try & disguise the smell. Any ideas? Was going to make an appointment with my GP in case I have some sort of bacteria or something, would be good to hear if anyone else has/is suffering from this xx

  3. Has your band been loosened or do you still have restriction. I had a lot of the same issues (I was banded 2010) and got it emptied. I kept it empty for 18 months, I've just started getting it filled again & so far so good. Don't get me wrong I've put a lot of weight on in the time it was empty but all the pain, discomfort, acid reflux & heartburn eventually stopped.

Good luck whatever you decide to do x

  4. Bigbandbetty, all sounds too familiar, who are you attending, I'm in the UK too.

I had a tough time like you're describing a couple of years back and was miserable, I ended up getting my band emptied which I now regret (I'm now 4st heavier than my starting weight) sometime 0.1ml can make all the difference but you'll need to give everything time to heal as you've been sick etc. everything will be inflamed.

I got a fill for the first time again 2 weeks ago, I felt it tight in the beginning and was slightly panicked but now 2 weeks on I've managed fillet steak, veg & potatoes for dinner, albeit it was 3oz of steak & it took me half an hour to eat but it was 'normal' food. I'm going to need another fill as I'm feeling hungry in between meals but I won't be going too far this time round, slowly slowly does it.

Good luck and hope you get on ok with you're un fill & you feel better soon.

  5. Amanda, I've had a similar experience & can completely understand and empathize.

I was banded in August 2010, I was desperate, had been battling my weight for 15 years. I didn't really prepare myself mentally for it & thought it would be a quick fix.

For the first year I did ok but then I didn't listen to my body & started eating bigger portions & all the wrong foods, I was constantly being sick because of binging, got to the point I couldn't even keep liquid down but I thought this was good because it would mean I would lose weight!!

Finally after not being able to cope with the discomfort I got it emptied, blaming everything on the band!

I then tried every fad going......lived on shakes for months until I got to the stage normal food made me wretch & I didn't want to eat. I was so depressed I then went to the other end of the spectrum & starting binging in secret.....even taking food to the bathroom to have in secret......disgusting!!

I realized in October 2013 I had issues & went to my GP he referred me to a eating disorder specialist......this was the turning point......I saw her every week together with a psychologist and managed to get to the bottom of my food issues which weren't actually food.......it could have been any addiction, drugs, alcohol anything I could use as a crutch.

I have now been discharged from their care and have taken the first steps to lose the weight (I'm now 50lbs heavier than when I was banded).......I got my first fill 2 weeks ago & have been patient and sensible & now realize it's simply a helpful tool but you need to work with it and change your eating habits & mental attitude to succeed.

Good luck Amanda I wish you well xx
