  1. Hi, I add fresh or frozen berries or varios types of fresh fruit with some honey to sweeten! Yummy! Good luck!

Ok, so today I chose to try 2 new things and so far BOTH of them were HORRIBLE!!!

How do I make Greek yogurt taste better? I bought the Kraft brand of plain and added 1 tsp of sugar free vanilla Syrup to it; still tastes bad to me....added granola, still yuck. Added 1 packet sugar, nada....

Any suggestions??? I hate to feel like I am throwing away food but if this is how greek yogurt is supposed to taste, I'd rather eat regular (I really don't care for it either but like it better than greek!)......I only bought 2 small containers of it.

    thanks!

  2. Hi Rachel, Thank you for sharing your story! You look great! Love your pic!!!!!!!! Judi

Yesterday I hit 50 pounds lost since the start of the banding process, which was October (I had a 6 month wait period, in which I lost 11 pounds, and I was banded in April). I have been telling my husband that my goal was to not buy any new jeans until the fall, because I was hoping to fit in 18s by then. When I started in October, I was in size 24 jeans from Lane Bryant, and they were the blue/"curvy" style. If you're not familiar with Lane Bryant jeans, they sell them in 3 different fits for each size- curvy, moderately curvy, and straight.

OK so now fast forward to today. I decided to hit Lane Bryant tonight for fun to try on jeans. I didn't really expect the 18s to fit- they haven't since high school- I just wanted to see how close I was getting. But guess what! The 18s fit AND the blue/"curvy" ones were too baggy in the butt, so I needed to try the red ones! I was so thrilled I took a picture.

So here's my never-before-seen before & durings. Shot 1 is surgery day, shot 2 is very early July, and shot 3 is in the dressing room tonight :)

  3. Hello, I was banded on 12/01/10. I have found that I do best if I drink the Protein Drinks in the morning. I do feel a restriction when I eat. I just try not to eat too much and make healthy food chocies. Anything worth doing is not always easy. I had 4cc put in my band on 01/04/11. Keep in touch and let's help each other on our jouney! I live in New Jersey near the coast. Good luck! :)

    Hi!

I was banded on 11/29/2010 and am feeling really good- to good. I just had my first fill of 3cc and don't feel much of a change. I really thought I would be more restricted. I am having a hard time with my food choices. I would love to speak to someone that had surgery around the same time and see how they are doing.

    Thanks for the support!

  4. Hello, It could be your gall bladder. Call your surgeon and make an appointment. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I was banded on 9/2/10. I have had 1 fill of 1cc with 2 cc added during surgery and had been doing great. For the last few weeks though, I have been getting a pain by my upper right abdomen and about every three or four days the pain gets so bad I have to vomit (sorry, gross). This happens about an hour after I eat and it has been different types of foods (not band friendly--bread, rice, peanuts). Is this what stuck is? I don't feel it right away like I have read others that take a few bites and feel it. I eat and I feel fine and then it hits me...and it hits me hard. I am in pain for about an hour or more. The pain travels to my back. I am going to call the doctor tomorrow. But since the pain goes away and I feel fine, I have waited.

I have tried to read other posts about getting stuck, but none seem to describe what I am feeling or the onset of how I feel. I have tried papaya enzymes, the chicken dance, grabbing my ankles, but none have worked.

    Any advise/suggestions will be appreciated.

  5. Hi, I am so sorry that you had such a terrible experience. It is horrible to be ignored and nurses's should always listen to their patients and act on their behalf, not igonore them! Maybe you can put a postivie spin on your experience and when you see someone in need offer your asssitance in whatever way you can. I hope you have a smooth recovery now and you acheive all of your goals! I am five days post op and had "same day surgery". I think I am doing well and feel fortunate to have the band and have a effective tool to help me on my weight loss jouney! Best wishes! Judi :D

The surgery itself was good, I woke up in the recovery room feeling pretty good. I was quite out of it and the only thing I mumbled was that I was in pain. I got morphine and everything was pretty good for most of that morning.

Once I was put in my room, the horror started.

My night nurse completely neglected me. I called her four times and told her I was in a lot of pain and I couldn't sleep. I was supposed to be on morphine every 2 hours and even though it was time for my next dose, the nurse kept telling me she will bring it soon. Five hours passed and I was crying in my room from the pain. The nurse left for the day without giving me my meds. Then, as I am sitting there crying and begging for someone to help me, the transport guy comes in to take me to radiology. The nurses assistant comes in right after he did and they stand there talking amongst themselves while I cry. They didn't leave nor did they try to comfort me, just chit chatted like I wasn't there. Then when I finally crawled out of bed, the guy took me down, talking to everyone he passed on the way down. When I was done with the xray, he came back and had the NERVE to say 'Oh, that was quick baby doll'. BABY DOLL! What the hell!

I went back to my room, covered myself under the covers and cried my eyes out. I have never felt so neglected.

I was discharged a couple of hours ago. I complained to the nurse that I can't lift my legs and it went ignored. When I was leaving, I asked the head nurse to provide me with a wheel chair. her answer was: "You can walk". So I walked... until I stopped in the middle of the hallway and bended forward and cried again because I couldn't catch my breath. A paramedic was walking out of the ER and noticed me and offered to help. I was NOT in any shape to walk.

I did not get to see the surgeon after the surgery. He sent some other doctor I have never seen before. The doctor seemed clueless and minimized every one of my complaints. After I asked if there were any complications, he said yes, and asked me how I knew. HOW PROFESSIONAL! Turns out that my liver was cut during surgery. I don't care, I knew that could happen, but I am sure that I was supposed to be informed about it. The doctor also had no idea what size band was put inside of me.

They also did not give me ANY heparin on day 2, although I have a history of blood clots and was advised to take heparin for 2 weeks after surgery. I had to rely on my family doc to prescribe the heparin shots to take when I got home.

I had to remind the nurses to give me my medicine and even then they didn't follow through.

I have been to my share of hospitals. I have been hospitalized several times in my life. This was by far the absolute worst hospital experience. I pray that I am the exception and everyone else has much better care.

  6. Hi, This pre op diet is very hard. My Dr. has me drinking Protein Drinks three times a day and zero calorie beveages in between with zero carbonation. My surgery is December 1! Let's try to keeep in touch for support! I can harldy wait until Wednesday!

My surgery date is Dec 2nd and I didn't have any problems with the first week of my 2 week liquid pre-op diet but once I allowed myself to eat some food on Thanksgiving I have had a lot more trouble sticking to it. I have lost 12 lbs so far but it is getting more and more difficult to not eat solid food. I will say that as long as I keep my Protein intake around 100g per day I don't feel hungry for the most part. I think what I am dealing with is more head hunger than physical hunger.

  7. Hi, Thanks for the great idea! I am having my surgery next week and I am looking for new things to drink for breakfast! I am sick of the Isopure that I have to drink now! Pre op diet! Thanks for sharing! :D

But they do have a lot of other valuable nutrients. I am actually one year post op and I make my Protein Shakes with 1 packet carnation, I scoop Protein powder and I cup milk. That SF mix sure improves the flavor a lot. :wink2:

  8. Hi,

I am on day nine of this very strict diet! I am drinking Isopro powder with skim milk!:( I was sick with nausea and headaches. I am over that now but, I have to say that I am very hungry and havein't lost a lot of weight! Or at least not s much as I thought I would! About 10 pounds! I drink only zero calorie drinks non carbonated and one cup of coffee per day! :P I am hungry too and feel tired but, I just try to keep thinking of the prize! My surgery is on December 1. I wish you the best and let's hope the next few days pass quickly for us! It will be worth it!:D

    Hello,

I'm on the fourth day of the liquid diet for pre-op. I'm using Carnation No Sugar Added shakes. They taste fine. But I'm starving. Is there ANYTHING I can supplement this with. My doctor told me 'off the record' that I could eat thanksgiving dinner --- ?? which surprised me. So, if I could break the diet for that , can I add 0% greek yogurt or something? Anyone else have a brutal time with the pre-op part? Thanks for the support.

  9. Dear Becki,

I agree with your feelings! My surgery date is December 1! So we will be one day apart of being banded. I am on the pre op diet! Very difficult! I haven't cheated at all. I am on week two. I don't feel to great but, it's just another hoop to go through for my lap band. I have been to so may appointments with doctors, dietians, and various tests it's a hudge ordeal to go through but, I just keep thinking about the prize at the end, a healthier and fit me. If you want we can keep in touch! I would love to have something to eat right now! This pre op diet is awful! Good luck to you!

    Judi

  10. :)

    Hello

I need to find some help or advice on what could be done. I was all ready to have the surgery and during my surgery my stomach was punctured. The doctor said my stomach was "bloggy and floppy" and he wouldnt advise having the LAP-BAND® done.

I want to know if anyone out there in LAP-BAND® world has every run into this or heard of this happening. I feel like I need a second opinion. I have worked hard now for 3+ years getting all my documentation around and finally was able to be approved by my insurance to have the surgery and now I am being told it wouldnt be advisable.

My surgeon and his team were great, just a weird situation but I really want to have the surgery done and dont want to waste all my progress that I have done.

Words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Joann:frown::(
