  1. this is my 3rd day from surgery. my schedule is the same as yours and will be on liquids til I see the surgeon in two - three weeks. i began Protein today. i'm doing pretty good so far. just feel like i get a blockage, as if maybe i'm drinking too much/taking in too much.

It really is different after surgery. I thought I'd miss a lot more than I do, believe me. I'm almost 4 weeks post surgery, but my plan was slightly different than yours:

nothing day of surgery - sponges to wet lips and tongue

day 2 & 3 - Clear Liquids only (crystal light, Water, broth)

following 12 days - full liquids (Protein drinks, yogurt drinks, cream of wheat thinned out w/milk or water)

next two weeks - pureed foods (mashed potatoes, baby food, greek yogurt, cottage cheese)

next two weeks - soft foods (eggs, crab, shrimp, tuna)

then: unrestricted - trying things one at a time

So far as I know, once I hit "unrestricted" nothing is off limits. However, I'm on the pureed foods stage now, and just a 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes fills me up completely - takes me just as long to eat as it takes the rest of my family to eat their entire meal, and totally satisfies me!

You get so full so fast, that at this stage I can't even imagine eating a hamburger with a bun (which was previously a favorite). Even if I get to that stage where I can eat that, I cannot fathom wanting french fries with it. It was just overload me!!! (Which is a good thing! I've had my lifetime quota of micky d's anyway, lol!)

    Good luck!!

  2. Thank you. I just can't believe how good I actually feel. With the fluids I'm intaking are pretty good. Getting use to that is a real challenge. My Mom made a huge, I mean huge glass bowl of jell-o (sugar free). I have chicken broth given to me from the hospital to take home. I have plenty of ice and today I am beginning Protein.

The days to come is where I find my inner self.

    Good luck to you.

That is sooo awesome.. I do feel the same as you I am soo glad that I had the opportunity to have this sugery. You know that just last year my insurance didn't cover the sleeve and I just can't believe we are there..I wish you all the luck..

  3. Hello to Everyone

My surgery was Feb. 18th and discharged the 21st. Home at 1230pm.

Today I am truly happy with the decision I've made to be a more healthier woman. I have taken control of my life.

The surgery was a success. I hardly had any pain; a lil discomfort, yes, but no pain.

I begin a new journey for the rest of my life and give thanks to God and to Dr. Taller at Pacific Bariatric, San Diego and the pre-op team, pre-surgical & surgical team and nurses on the 7th floor at Scripps Mercy Hospital. You all ROCK.

  4. For so many of us, our day is approaching quickly and slowly. I want to wish everyone a successful surgery and an abundant life full of happiness for what is about to happen to our bodies. We all have waited for something like this to come and finally allow us to shine, smile and sachet our butts, lol.

I'm praying for all of us.

    Talk soon.

    Krys

  5. If you have a Wholefoods store in your area, you may want to try there for the liquid Vitamins. I have bought them before. Prices ranged from 14 to 28 bucks depending on the size bottle.

I had the sleeve on Oct.27th & I have lost 70lbs since surgery the first 50lbs came off in 2 weeks! I myself am having a very hard time eating! since surgery I am extreme lactose intolerant and haven't found a Protein shake that works for me without causing the dry heaves. also I was unable 2 use the chewable vitamins cause they agitated my sleeve also swallowing the prilosec for heartburn sometimes is challenging. I have several new complications that are associated from all these things, I have a a Vitamin & Protein deficiency making all my muscles feel like they are having charlie horses all the time, I get dizzy from malnutrition cause I am afraid to eat over 300 calories a day in fear of gaining which I gained 1lb last week because they say my body is in starvation mode. I have an appointment this Tuesday with the Dr. and the nutritionist and I am really scarred at what they are gonna tell me. my surgeon says the weight is coming off to fast and I am now treading in dangerous waters which is hard for me too believe cause when I look in the mirror all I can see is the 275lbs more that need to come off instead of the 157lbs I have lost since may 1 2010. Can anyone help me? Is anyone else struggling like this??

  6. for the severe leg cramps, my doctor suggested tonic Water. it is the most wonderful solution she gave me in years. With the edema in legs and ankles, the Lasix prescription gives me cramps during my sleep. She ordered me to drink it 30 minutes before bedtime. It works

  7. I can really see the difference. You look wonderful.

Here's me at 168 :)...I'm soooooooo not comfortable with body pics, but I really do need to document, plus my friend wanted a picture of me in the sweater she bought me for my birthday. It's storming here in So Cal and just got back from errands, but it was now or never (have to get dinner started). Pics were taken with my blackberry so not great quality.

OOPS here's a before pic too...

  8. Hey Kristy, hoping all is well with you.

Thanks, everybody. I'm feeling pretty good. Yesterday, though, I started feeling a pain (more like discomfort) on my left side above the bottom left portal wound. I think it's just deep muscle pulling/healing -- it's like something in there just woke up. I'm going to call my doctor about it today, though, because it's kind of freaking me out.

  10. Wow, what can I say. I have read all the post and I am not alone afterall. I am trying so hard not to go overboard with this eating I have develop. Im sure it is stress though. I need to get focused and stay prayerful that Gods Will Be Done. I am drinking Protein shakes daily, trying to remember to take Vitamins and trying to focus on eating habits. I know that journaling will help also.

Also decided to begin juicing, in that it helps with losing some pounds along with losing Water weight from the lower extremity edema issue. Total Water weight is 117% versus body fat at 73%. Hmmmmmm grhrgrhrgrgrh!!!!!!

I know I want this soooo bad and do not want to be turned away at my pre-op, which is the day before surgery. I'm not sure what my pre-op diet will consist of but I am willing to do everything possible to not come back home without VSG.

Now that I am closing in on the date of my surgery I find myself eating an extra super amount of food. It is like something inside of me feels like I am never going to eat well again. I feel like a inmate on death row everytime it comes to eating as if I better make every meal count. I know in my head it is not truely the end of eating so why cant I kick that urge to eat like its the last supper ?1

  11. Hey Mr. Mason

How are you? Congrats on your surgery date. You are a couple of weeks away. I will have you in my prayers and keep us posted on your journey.

    Peace and Love

:blink:CONGRATULATIONS of getting your surgery date !!!

I know those exact feelings that you are experiencing.

I finally got my surgery date ...Monday, January 11, 2011 at the West Los Angeles Kaiser.

It's weird being so excited and sometimes scared shitless at time.

  12. thin2be: how are you? are things working out okay?

Yeah I am beyond fustrated and upset with kaiser....all autorizations and classes should run the same I think I am going to want answers from Kaiser now on why everything is so different at different locations how fair is that? Other locations get to do the labs and pick meanwhile us in Riverside area have to wait.....hmm...not right!!

  13. You sound unhappy. Don't get discouraged. You will get there.

My last day of Options was Sept 20. And if it takes to Jan or Feb to have surgery then that will be the right time. I am at this point of no return. I keep going because I know I am further than others and wish I was farther than most. Time and patience is my focus. It also gives me more time to read the different post and add to my journal of the do and don'ts.

    Keep the Faith!!!!!!!

Glad to here you have it all set up, It goes so quickly my 21 days have come and gone and I am still waiting. My surgeon was out for a week so my chart is just sitting on his desk for review. Once he gives it to the coordinator then we can get a date going. when I called today to check the status and confirm everything is booked up for the year. I asked to be placed on a cancellation waiting list just in case someone changes their mind before the year is up, I am trying to coordinate with my job as well. We will see what happens, I will call back again tomorrow since we are going on over a month and I would just like to get a date so this can stop being a thought. I have to wait no matter what, I am not in control of that part but I can't get on the list until I actually get a date so hopefully tomorrow. Have fun on your consult day and don't spend to much at the Cno.

  14. Got the date last week and now the times to see each specialist with Pacific Bariatric on Monday. So exciting.

The appointments are very close and very happy for that. First appointment is with the surgeon, then the Internist and lastly Psych ending at 12 noon.

I will have more than enough time to see my dad in Chula Vista, which is 15 minutes away and head up to Viejas Casino. I will leave Diego late night, after visiting cousins and uncles. Why not make it a fun day, huh?

    Ohhhhhhhhhh!!!

My letter states that I must wait 21 WORKING DAYS to contact them regarding a surgery date because it gives them time to rcv all notes from your appts. So that will be November 16th. I wanted to wait after Thanksgiving anyway, because I will get paid for the whole four day holiday weekend. I work for LA County. I am salaried, but it does make a difference when 4 days are involved. I have sick time, but it will take the weekend days away. I can't have that now. lol.

Anywho I am rambling. Very sleepy. Good night all.

  15. I wonder = you as the patient cannot pick the hospital to where you want your procedure done? Wow. Kaiser Bellflower was/is so easy. I am satisfied with my progress.

Last day of Options class we filled out medical info authorizations for PB. If you were staying with Kaiser this was not necessary. WE completed all labs during different weeks of the program. I walked into doctors office and asked (called) for the EKG - the same day; rcvd an original to take with me. I sent PB all info listed on their form and all is history.

Got authorization number from Kaiser and booked consult date same day for the 18th. If surgery is not til Jan or Feb; its ok. hopefully really not the case.

Hey guys finished options class and had my appt on Friday...I was cleared to get my labs and move on to get authorization if my labs come back ok....I am now even more confused they had me fill out two referrals one for Pacific and one for Crown....I told them I wanted the sleeve and crown does not offer the surgery....they advised me that they pick were I go and I cant request it will be based on criteria.....didnt say what....is that normal? I am set on having the sleeve and going to crown would be a waste of time!!
