  1. Welcome home Audree. All the symptoms you are having are all normal after the surgery. Glad you got home safely and you're doing well.

I had another fill on Friday, so I am back on liquids for 1 week, mushies for 1 week and week 3 solids. I am a bit discouraged that I am not losing as quickly as I would like to. :violin: But I am losing.:clap2:

I need a support group badly. Looks like OA is back in order.

  2. This thread made me laugh.

I watch the show What Not To Wear all the time, and it is hilarious and very informative. However, I like to watch other people's clothes get trashed on tv, not my own.

Love the show! Some of the clothing and shoes they show, I would not wear if I were thin. They look so uncomfortable. Do you think they would give me $5,000 for something other than clothing...

  3. Hi, I am in agreement with Yoda, I was and still stressed and irritable, for me I am giving up a big big friend. "FOOD" Which has been a comfort for me for years. My biggest thing were sugary items, I have not picked up anything with sugar since 2 weeks before surgery. I can go shopping in a Mall, and smell items and practically end up in tears because I know for today, I don't want to touch specific foods in the food court area.

  4. Hi Rose,

Everything went ok, he checked the band and it did not. I went to an ortho doctor December 26th, he gave me Vicodin and Flexiril, for the back and apparently, I was getting sick from those meds. The Lapband Surgeon did say everything was fine and wants to see me again in 2 weeks.

My back is feeling much better, I stopped taking the meds for the back and now I am able to hold everything down. Gee, I have gotten my appetite back :)

  5. Hi everyone,

Everything went well with the surgeon yesterday. The band did NOT slip and he did not fill it because in a almost 2 week period I lost another 2 1/2 pounds.

He proded around, used some sort of machine to check the band. He wants to see me again in 2 weeks. He basically wants me on a soft diet for another week. I do have to let you know, last night I did not have a soft diet and I was fine.

Are we getting used to writing "2007"?

Have a great day. Time for work.

  7. Chew and Spit is a very common bulimic behavior. I think as long as you don't make a habit of it and you're not doing it to avoid calories then it's probably no big deal. I found myself doing it too much for awhile there and realized it was my way to still binge with the band. So I had to stop doing it. Just something to be aware of.

Cat, you are absolutely right chewing and spitting is a bulimic behavior, I have been on an eating disorder unit and that discussion has come up. I find that while eating while I am banded I am chewing and spitting because I am scared that the food would get caught.

Although, I am also finding that I am picking up other bulimic behaviors that I have not done in a very very long time. I am finding that I am PB'ing and it bothers me to think that I am picking up very old behaviors.

Have to share....I have been diagnosed as a bulimic back in 1989 with loads of therapy these bulimic habits that I had which included chew and spit, purging, diet/ Water pills and even over excersing (since I was 15) have past, but I have picked up another eating disorder. Compulsive overeating without the bulimic habits. Gee, then I decide that I did not want to have to deal with any eating disorder habits, I would get banded. It scares me to think that I am going to have a life long history with eating disorders even though I am banded. To this day, when I had to go the psych consult, I don't know how I past; my insurance company and all the doctors involved even allowed me to get banded.

I am trying "one day at time" to get through all my feelings about having an eating disorder and how I will deal with it.

Thanks for letting me share and be honest!

  8. Hi, I have a doctors appointment this morning wth the surgeon, I believe I mentioned I had an accident on Christmas day, I fell and I hit my back really bad. Ever since the accident, I have not been able to hold food down at all. I have been able to hold down Protein drinks and other beverages as well.

My last fill was in November and I was able to get some foods down without any problem, so I am nervous that I might have a slippage. I will let you all know what happened later.

I figured out my New Year's resolution...To take of myself first! I can't do for anyone else, until I care for myself first...

  9. I decided it was time for me to start a little 'home' for my journey. I am being banded Dec 18/06 with Dr. Ortiz in TJ. I live in Victoria, BC.

I have struggled with weight my whole life - no kidding. I am tired of it. I want to be in control of food, instead of the other way around. I am very confident in this procedure, and in the results I will have after it. I am a hungry person, and not a happy person when I am hungry. So then I eat to control my inner grouch, and get fatter and more depressed. I am sure you can all see where this is going.

I am married to a great supportive husband, and have 2 boys who are 21 and 18. My youngest is supportive of this procedure, but my oldest wants mommy just the way she is. He is worried about safety. My youngest is only worried about money....hmmm.... I might have to chat with him about that.:guess

I am off to work now, I hope anyone who pops by this thread, finds something of interest. Best wishes to you all.

    Hi Victoria,

It was nice chatting with you on New Year's Eve in the chat room.

I can relate to getting & being depressed and fat. food has been a constant battle for me ever since I can remember. Getting heavier as I get older. I have a supportive husband and 23 year daughter as well. I wish I thought of having the band put on earlier in life. I am having some minor complications and I will find out more on January 2 when I see the surgeon.

I wish you all the best, and a great recovery.

  10. Thanks for your prayers and well wishes. I am still dealing with the back pain I during Christmas and still dealing with being (back on liquid diet) as per doctors request. Althought today, I tried to eat some grilled chicken with salad, and still can not hold it down. I am still hoping that the band did not slip, I am holding down all liquids so I guess that is a good sign. Maybe the doctor will have to loosen the band.

I don't really want it loosen the band, because I will put some OR all of the weight back on.

To all a HAPPY NEW YEAR...I will cheer with a Protein DRINK!

  11. Can someone tell me what the symptons would be if the band slips?

I fell on Christmas day and hurt my back, ever since, the food can not stay down. I have been having pain/tightness in my chest (feels like where the band is). A mucus like substance comes up.

I will be going to the doctor on Tuesday morning (January 2nd) and he will see if the band slipped due to the fall. In the meantime, he wants me back on Liquid Protein and tea over the weekend...WOW I will be bringing in the New Year with Protein drinks.

    Happy New Year to all!

  12. Can you tell me how many pounds you lost a week on average? Did you have a lot of platueaus? I just want to know things like this in advance so I don't get discouraged.

    Thanks! Audree

Hi Audree, I am losing on a average of 1 -2 lbs per week. I started out on surgery day September 25, 2006 at 206 LBS and I am now 189. There are some weeks I did not lose anything. Oh well...What is great for me I am an insulin diabetic I have so far dropped more than 1/2 of my insulin dosage by having the surgery...for this I am grateful.

I know for me I LOVE instant gratification. I want to be a size 2 by tomorrow...YEAH RIGHT. :cry That is certainly not going to happen.

I wish you loads of luck on your surgery. I have read many of your posts and I know you will be fine!! :clap2:

All the best in the New Year to you all LAP BANDSTERS!!

    LYNN

  13. I'm in Yonkers. I was banded 12/15/06 by Dr Ortiz in TJ. He was great. His partner for his Cancun location is the Cheif of St Vincents- Dr Nick Gabriel. It was suggested that I could go to Christine Ren from NYU who is supposed to be good too, for fills. Also Lennox Hill Hospital.

Good luck to you Brown Eyd Girl! Who ever you choose either St. Vincent's doctor or NYU docotor, I am certain they will be good.

    Keep us posted.

I went yesterday to my surgeon, and I am down another 7 lbs :clap2: in less than a month, so he would not fill the band at this time, so he said to come back in 2 weeks.

  14. I was paying half the price for gasoline that I am now. The country was not at war. The federal budget actually contained a SURPLUS. Let's see......yep, it's fine with me if the president spends his lunch hour getting laid. After all, he wouldn't be the only one in Washington doing it. AND at least Monica wasn't underage.

I lost 2 firemen due to the lack of CLINTON'S WORK IN THE WHITE HOUSE OR IS IT not the lack of work.

You'll have to explain that one to me. There is way too little information to make any sense out of that statement whatsoever.

Charlene, Now I have a PRESIDENT who is here to protect me and our country! 911 fell 8 miles from my home TWIN TOWERS you know the World Trade Center due to terriorists..TERRISTS .OUR PRESIDENT IS TAKING THE BLAME FOR THESE PEOPLE THAT HARMED close to 4,000 innocent lives. I LOST 2 FIREMEN DUE TO CLINTON disarming our military that CLINTON a DEMACRAT he tore down. He new crap was going to happen and did not inform BUSH our PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Our military today is VOLUNTEER THEY CHOOSE TO be their and help us. President Bush did not put these men in our troops.

This is definately not a topic to be discussed POLITICS AND RELIGION.

NOW SOME PEOPLE NEED BANDS ON THEIR MOUTHS.

I had my loss ...MY UNCLE AND MY BROTHER, who protected the people in the World Trade Center. NOW I have a man who is doing his best in protecting our country so I don't lose my chidren or possibly my future grandchildren.

PRESIDENT BUSH A WONDERFUL SMART MAN. A GREAT PRESIDENT.

YOU KNOW WHAT, I WILL PAY A LITTLE MORE FOR GAS...

CLINTON'S BROUGHT UP MY INSURANCE...DOES ANYONE REMEMBER INSURANCE REFORM? GEE I DO. DOES ANYONE REMEMBER HMO'S

SO CHARLENE...MAYBE YOU NEED ANOTHER JOB.

  15. I agree 100 percent. I could have swore this was a lapband forum. Oh well. Before Bush my husband and I had to live on 60,000 a year and with two kids. Since Republican's have had office our income has doubled and stayed that way. So, no, I wouldn't vote Democratic even if the cows came home. So bash away bash away all you like. I'm Republican and proud of it. End of story as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, times where much better when Clinton was getting BJ's in our White House and if his wife get's in the White house...times will be just dandy!!!:)
