  1. Well said, it's about time someone said something about all this negative talk. It's hard enough getting adjusted to living with your new band. And quite often the office staff at the surgeons office can't answer your questions quickly . You have to feel comfortable enough to ask questions without feeling like someone is gonna yell at you. And I agree , the new search engine is not as user friendly as the previous one prior to the site getting updated.
  2. I found it strange also that on the day of discharge the WLS coordinator came in my room and said " stop thaking you're HCTZ (bp med), you won't need it anymore" Now, I can see stopping it once I lose more significant weight, but I have only lost 10 lbs. Not enough IMO to just stop the meds. But, it is a form of diaretic and right now fulids are somewhat limited so, maybe it has some bearing. I am going to have to double my efforts in checking my BP at home, just to reassure myself that I am good to go.

    LOOKING FOR JANUARY BANDERS!!!

I just got banded yesterday 1/4/11, everything went off without a hitch. Had small Hernia Repair. Felt great at the hospital , with the PCA pump by my side. Now that I am home, I am sooo sore. And this Lortab tastes terrible. Makes me not even want to take it. YUCK !
  4. I noticed a lot of you said that if you're going to cheat, "cheat with protein". I am confused because my doc limits your protein intake during the last week prior to surgery. NO more than 20 gm. So, to me cheating with protein would be just as bad. Just a question, cuz I am not really getting this whole shrink your liver thing ? All I want is some She Crab soup.
  5. Ladies I feel ya. Day 5 for me, surgery on Tuesday. I don't really feel hungry which is great. But, I seem to have this hightened sense of smell now. We passed a local chicken place today and i just about jumped out of the car and ran. I had to cover my nose with my sweatshirt and pray that this too will pass. Ummmm fried chicken, what I wouldn't give a wing right now. My hubby was eating a salad today and all I wanted was a piece of freakin lettuce. Lawd have mercy. My question is , how will cheating just a weee little bit affect your outcome.

    I am ready

I'm right here with you Stepanie55. I get banded on Tues, Jan 4th. I am also on my pre-op liquid diet right now. So, far I am doing pretty good with it. It's strange becuase I have felt a rush of strange feelings and thoughts lately about my weight and HOW IN THE WORLD DID I GET HERE (morbidly obese)?

    1st Day Post Op

    Could be caffeine withdrawal .
  8. Hello ladies, Hope this question is not too intrusive, but I gotta at least ask. Maybe someone will be brave and answer Got a question about "the girls." Just wondering if they will shrink. I have tried many, many diets over the years, of course never losing enough significant weight for the girls to shrink. I am only looking to drop maybe one cup size. Just wondering what has been some of your experiences ? Thanks, T
  9. Okay my surgery is scheduled for next week, I am trying to get an idea about the pain I can expect. I have had two C-Sections, so I know how that feels, as well as a Gall Bladder removal which was laporoscopic also. That pain was minimal in comparison to the 2 C-Sections. So, for any of you ladies that have had C-Sections...does the pain even compare ?

To or Not To do Pre-Op Diet

I am currently on my pre-op diet. My surgeon requires you to do it for one week prior to surgery. He actually palpated my liver during my initial consult and said it DID NOT feel like it was enlarged. But, he requires ALL of his patients to complete it. He also made it clear that if I gained any weight prior to surgery that he would cancel my surgery. This will ensure that I at least will not gain any weight. I know I would probably have many "last suppers" otherwise days leading up to surgery. I figure, this week will give my mind a chance to adjust to not eating like a pig like I have for so many years. It will be easier for me to adjust next week once I get home from the hospital . Less shock to my brain. It's also a good way to jump start your weight loss.

    Zumba Anyone?

Hello there, I am a self proclaimed "Zumbaholic," I do Zumba at my local YMCA...LOOOVVVE IT and I also ordered the DVD set last fall. I found the dvd set to be a little difficult to follow, they seem to move a bit fast for me. I much rather go to the Y and take my classes. Honestly, my set of Zumba dvd's are sitting in my living room collecting dust. I am hoping that I can work my way up TO the dvd's next year.

  15. My family & I have been planning our cruise since September. My surgery is Jan 4th, so hopefully by then I will have good restriction and good weight loss. My question to anyone who's been on a cruise with a band, how do you manage not to hurt yourself with over eating.... no chewing well ... taking big bites..getting stuck...all leading to PAIN etc.... I just don't want to be in pain when we are supposed to be enjoying our cruise with our family. Should I ask my doc for an "unfill" or is that a bit unethical to ask a doc to do for your own enjoyment and glutony. Tell me what you think yall.
  16. I've heard that running really helps melt the fat away. My hubby is a runner and swears he's gonna have me running next year (2011). I use to run a little in high school and yes, I was much thinner. I am looking forward to at least trying. If it helps boost my metabolism I am willing to try. In addition to my Zumba classes of course. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Zumba so much fun !

    The BIG secret!!

I finally borke down and told my mom. She is normally against WLS becuase we've had a couple of relatives that have had Gastic By- pass Surgery...2 were unsuccessful and 1 (unfortunately) just recently passed away due to Cancer , not necessarily related to Gastric Bypass. So, I knew she would probaly not agree with me doing this. I started the process with only my AMAZING hubby's support. He has been so good to me throughout this whole ordeal. Anyway, just last Monday I was talking with mom on the phone. She was on her way out to do some Christmas shopping. She mentioned she was going to pick me up something from Dillard's. I mentioned to her that I really didn't want her to buy me any clothes right now becuase I " had somethings going on?" She immediately pannicked and thought I was ill and made me tell her what was going on. So, I just told her ,explained about the PCOS and all of my weight gain and defeated efforts to lose weight. Well, to my surprise, momma was estatic !!!! She was so happy and excited for me. She even said she was going to take off from work and help us with the boys so, my husband can stay with me at the hospital . She said she had recently noticed that I had been gaining weight but, wasn't sure how to mention it to me without hurting my feelings. I am so glad she knows. Now , I have one more cheerleader in my corner.

    Goin' on a cruise

Thanks everyone for your responses. Everything, yall said makes total sense. I am glad I asked because I was starting to get worried about the cruise in June. I plan to focus on having fun...fun I have not been able to have because I've been so overweight and out of breath. Rather than be overly concerned about eating every hour.
  19. I am all set for Jan 4th, my pre-op H&P is set for this Thursday. I am very excited as well as a lil nervous. I am praying for the best and know that God will keep me. This surgery is a great thing happening for me! I start my pre-op - clear liquid diet on Dec 28th...I guess no collard greens for me on New Year's Day

    Re-starting Zumba post-op

Hello all, For all the Zumbaholics like myself. How soon after surgery can I anticipate returing to my Zumba classes ? I have finally found an exercise routine that I truly enjoy, now I am concerned that I may have to wait a long time before I can return. I was told by my surgeons office that I will have my surgery in January. I am bummed because I recently registered for a credited Zumba class for college (PE credit), classes start back up mid January. Now I am afraid I may have to drop the class.

    Re-starting Zumba post-op

I'm so excited, I got my new Bloch's today in the mail. I can't wait to get to a class and try them out. I talked with my surgery educator today, she said the same thing, that I should be back Zumba' ing within about 2 weeks post-op. Hopefully, my instructor wil be understanding and allow me to modify quite a bit for a couple of weeks.

    I've Been Appoved!! Tricare...

I am so excited, I completed my last pre-op class today . H& P is next week, did my labs today too. I am not looking forward to Clear liquids, but I know that is a sign of a GREAT change to come. I start my clear liquids on 12/28 Thank you Lord for my husbands service in the military . Without Tricare , I'd still be waiting for approval and my surgery (with other private insurance).
  23. Finally, found out yesterday that my surgery is scheduled for Jan 4th. And Tricare has approved me- Yeah baby. Now I am starting to worry . I accidently scrolled down to the Life after lap band removal section on this website. And now I am so worried about this procedure going wrong. When I read though some of their experiences it scares me a little bit. I'm just venting, I have to have faith & believe that everything is going to work out just find and I will be successful.

    I've Been Appoved!! Tricare...

I am Tricare Standard- North region. I got approved too , fairly quick turn around , like a 5 days or so. If I've read everything correctly, I will only incur a $25 co-pay. Lawd knows I hope that's true. Either way, I am so happy that Tricare agree's that I NEED this surgery. January 4th is MY day. Hallelujah !!!!

    Re-starting Zumba post-op

Well , I finally have a surgery date , Jan 4th. My classes starts about two weeks after that date. I will have had my first post-op appt by then, so maybe I can still keep this class. I am praying for a speedy recovery and hopefully the instructor will understand that I will have to REALLY MODIFY the movements for a week or two or three:rolleyes:
