    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

I have 3cc in right now, they took out 0.5cc at the first of May because I was throwing up a lot...I could use a bit more, but not the full .5cc It's funny how so little can make so much difference...

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Ok fellow September bandsters...Have any of you tried the 5 day pouch test? I am stuck in a rut...I think a lot of it is because of my thyroidectomy in December, but I'm tired of being stuck and need something to get me back on track. I had 0.5cc removed the other day because I was vomiting every single thing I ate. Now I feel pretty good. I follow the rules for the most part, but since that surgery on my throat, I can't get through a meal without at least a sip or two of something to drink. I know I'm sabotaging my efforts, but food gets stuck in my throat (not in my band). I hope the swelling goes away soon, its enough to drive me insane. My thyroid meds are finally working so that's in my benefit finally also. I started out at 298 and now I weigh 260 so I've lost a total of 38lb, not where I wanted to be at this point, but better than nothing! After the cancer scare and losing my dad in February, I guess it's really pretty decent. Anyway, I just wondered if anyone had any tricks for getting back on track. To those of you who are so close to your goal CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are all a tremendous inspiration to me!!! Keep up the great work!

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Thanks for the tips Lisa... emsbugbug - I know my thyroid is playing hell with my loss. I had to have it completely removed in December due to follicular thyroid carcinoma. I keep trying to be positive, just frustrated!!! Thanks everyone for the kind words...will post more when I have longer to chat!

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Very discouraged...I haven't lost a pound since the pre-op diet...about to the point I'm ready to tell my doc to take it out. I have tons of restriction, to the point sometimes i think I'm too tight. I barely eat a cup of food per meal, mostly Protein. It makes no sense. I follow the rules, and still no success... Any suggestions?

    My First Pasta Experience

Not only that, but you're only three weeks post op - so that kind of makes a difference too. You will still have a lot of post-op swelling for even a couple more weeks before it finally goes away.
  9. Has anyone else had a total thyroidectomy since your banding? If so, how are you doing with your weight loss since the surgery? Any input would be helpful! I had my thyroid surgery almost a month ago...and was banded in September.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Hey all my September bandster buddies! I know its been a while since I posted, but I'm back now. I had my thyroid surgery December 13, then left for Cozumel the 14th! We had a great time, and now we're home and I'm getting back on track with my band. I'm down 28 lb since I started, which isn't where I wanted to be at this point, but its better than where I came from! I hope everyone had a great holiday, and I will post more tomorrow!!!

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Hey everyone, Its been a few days since I last posted, but here's the latest with me. I am going to have to have my thyroid completely removed, due to follicular cancer. Hopefully we can do this before the holidays so that way I'm on the road to recovery before Christmas. The doc doesn't think chemo or radiation will be necessary, but they will make that decision when they get in there to do the surgery. Thanks everyone for the wellwishes and the prayers, I really appreciate it!

  14. I just got home from my surgeon's office, and my surgery will be Sept. 2nd, 2010. I thought maybe we could all get together and try to support eachother through the dreaded pre-op diet and all the pre-op nervousness that goes along with being banded. Hope to hear from you soon!

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Hey girlie, sounds like your sutures are pulling. Mine did that, and now, I'm 6 wks post op and they finally about a week ago stopped pulling. Once they dissolve, you won't get that feeling anymore. You're not having any redness or streaking around the incisions are you? That would be signs of infection....

  17. Had my first fill on Monday...boy has this week been a change. I have had a couple episodes of things getting stuck. Not only that, but I'm so much tighter in the mornings than at night. I barely eat now, my poor husband is so sad. He said he feels bad because he feels like I don't eat at all now. I just keep reminding him of the good that is coming. Off to work tomorrow, then off for the weekend and lots of grocery shopping to do. Have a good Friday everyone!

    Coming off Birth control

I'm an OB/Gyn RN and yes! It matters!!! If you want the safest procedure possible, the implanon needs to go. Your surgeon is being very safe and smart in this matter.
  19. Hey everyone, I hope you have all had a great week. At first I thought I was too tight, but now that the swelling from the fill has subsided, I'm pretty good. I can eat just a very small amount of food, then I'm satisfied. My poor husband is figuring out that I pass all my leftovers to him and my oldest daughter! LOL...better them than me! Good luck to all being banded tomorrow, we have quite a group of September bandsters! I hope this finds all of you doing well, talk again soon!

  23. I went in for my first fill yesterday, and they did it under fluoroscopy. I got 5cc in a 14cc band, but now it seems that every time I eat, I'm nauseated for about 30 minutes afterward. Is that normal?!?! I haven't thrown up or PB'd, but I feel like I could after I eat. Has anyone else experienced that?
  24. Finally got some time off from the baby boom to come talk to my fellow bandsters. I just got home from my first fill. They did it under fluoroscopy, and it was really pretty cool to watch. I was taken back, gowned and prepped, he numbed it with lidocaine and then accessed the port. The lidocaine burned, but the big needle didn't hurt a bit after that. After the port was accessed, he sat me up and they pulled the big x-ray machine over. I could see my band with the fluoro, then he had me take a big mouthful of contrast. Once I swallowed it, my esophagus and stomach turned dark, then he tightened it up by watching how fast the contrast went through. I got 5cc for my first fill! So now its liquids for the rest of today, then I can slowly start moving back up to solids. Hope all of you are doing well!!!
  25. My fee was $300...I think you should rethink your surgeon. That's a helluva lot of money!
