What birth control should I use?

I just got the Mirena IUD and I've never been pregnant. The gyno told me that there would be a chance than my uterus would be too small, but then didn't have any issues.

    Inconsistency with my band

I've also found my band is very inconsistent. I've realized lately that a big issue that no one really told me about was dealing with my allergies and sinus drainage. It seems like when I have a lot of sinus drainage, my stomach is really irritated and I have problems keeping most things down, but if I remember to stay on top of the decongestants and allergy meds, not only does my head feel better, I'm able to eat more consistently. I asked my doctor about this and she said it is very normal, but haven't really seen too many other people comment on this issue. Now is my peak allergy season and it just seems like my band hates the pollen as much as my head. Oh well, this will pass . . . soon, I hope.

    Happy 2011 July 2010 Bandsters!

My goal is to also have lost 100lbs total on my 1 year band-aversary, but I need to get back to the gym regularly. I had a little set-back as I decided to start running in the fall and ended up tearing the meniscus in my knee. I had surgery in Jan, and have been fully released to go back to the gym and exercising, but haven't gotten back on track. I need some motivation. I've got great restriction, and sometimes probably too much, but I think my main issue these days is just remembering to take my sinus meds, because the extra drainage really affects how well I'm able to eat. Anyone else have this issue?

    Breakfast Problems

Like you, I have a very hard time eating and even drinking milk or a Protein shake in the morning. I've found that if I have some hot tea or coffee and wait a little while, I can usually manage some yogurt or a shake. I've talked to my dr and she said to really try and get some protein down in the morning, even if it is only a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of milk. I've found that in the last month I've got really good restriction and have to really focus on just getting enough protein and calories in every day, my problem is if I get the protein/calories then I have a hard time getting enough Fluid.

    Greek Yogurt

I guess I'm one of the odd balls - I don't really like regular yogurt, but love the greek yogurts!

    vitamins and meds

I was able to take the meds the first day, the only thing was that I had to take them a couple at a time instead of all at once like normal. I also take metformin and it wasn't (and still isnt) an issue.

    vitamins and meds

I'm now 6+ weeks since surgery and don't seem to have any problem swallowing pills (and I've got some horse pills).
  8. I'm 36 and live in Longmont, CO. Are there any others out there that are close? I've been seeing Dr. Johnell in Greeley/Lafayette and had my surgery last week. I made the decision at the beginning of the year that this was the year for me. I feel like the journey so far has gone fairly smooth with no surprises. I was just banded last Thursday, July 29th in Greeley, CO and am doing really good. The one thing I wasn't fully prepared for was how tired and little energy I would have after the procedure. My friends and family keep reminding me that I just had surgery, but I'm feeling really good otherwise with very little pain or discomfort so I think that's why I'm having such a hard time dealing with the lack of energy. My first follow-up appointment was yesterday and I'm already down 4 pounds since my surgery.

    Newbie from Colorado

Good Luck! I'm sure you'll be feeling better soon. I noticed right after my surgery that it hurt when I coughed or sneezed, but if I would hold my abdomen it wouldn't be so bak. I'm now about 5 1/2 weeks out and am doing great. I've started running with a goal of doing a 5K in November. I've lost about 13 pounds since the surgery and have had 1 fill, but have very little restriction, if any. My next fill is scheduled for Tuesday.

    Couch to 5K ?

I love this program - I'm on week 3 and its a challenge, but I'm so excited I can actually do this. Keep up the great work everyone!

    Catheters and TOM...

It was actually my TOM when I had surgery and they made me remove my tampon and put on these crazy mesh undies with a monster pad for the surgery. No problems at all, in fact, I think the surgery meds did a miracle on my cramps because I usually have them really bad for 2 or 3 days and I only had them for about 3 hrs before the surgery.

    Couch to 5K ?

We can do this!! Today will be W1D3 and after my "run" on Tuesday, I'm thinking I may do 4 days of W1 instead of 3 before going to the next week. We'll see how today goes. I'm also going to try doing this at the gym as opposed to the park and see if that helps me fell like I'm prepared to move on.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Congrats to all of you who have done a 5K - I just started the C25K today. Its been a little over 2 weeks since my surgery and today was the first day of jogging in a really long time. I was glad to hear that other people have to hold their port when jogging and that compression shirt/shorts help - I'll be looking into those tomorrow. Wish me luck, I'm planning to run my first 5K in 15 years this November with a couple of friends. I used to run in high school and college, so I'm looking forward to getting back to it again.

    Couch to 5K ?

I just started this today! I was thinking about starting a thread to see if anyone wanted to join me in the program. I'm planning to do a 5K the first week of November. I've rounded up a couple of friends to run it with me as well. One question - I was banded on July 29 and today was the first day I tried jogging and I could feel my port moving. Anyone else have this sensation while jogging? The doctor said after 2 weeks I could go back to regular exercise with the exception of lifting any weights over 20 lbs which would need to wait for at least 4 weeks post surgery.
  15. Congrats on the 1/2 Marathon. This is my long term goal - first is a 5K in November, then a 10K next May, and then a 1/2 Marathon next fall.

    July banders-work together

I've done the C25K program before and it does work and I know what you're talking about about snow on the ground come November, that's why I'm going to Texas for my first run. Last year we had over a foot just before Halloween, so I wasn't going to take any chances about planning to do one in CO before the spring. I'm hoping to do the Bolder Boulder 10K next Memorial Day though. The last time I did the C25K, I did the majority of it on the treadmill/elliptical and it works great. Good Luck and let me know when you start - maybe we can be online workout buddies.

    July banders-work together

I had my first post-op appointment last week and told my Dr. about setting my first main goal to run a 5K in Nov by using the Couch to 5K program and he said that was fine, but to just keep walking for the first 2 weeks after surgery. After that I could get back to working out depending on how I was feeling, and start the program. I've recruited a couple of friendds and we are planning to do the Austin Race for the Cure the first weekend of November.

Anyone interested in a Christmas challenge?

I'm in as well - added my info to the spreadsheet and copied and pasted the formula down. I was banded on 7/29 so I used that starting weight.

    runstoppable.com

Great site - thanks! My first big goal after having surgery July 29th is to run a 5K in the fall, so this is a great help.

    on period for surgery???

I started my period the morning before I went in for surgery and they gave me these mesh panties and a giant pad. No problems at all, I was having cramps before surgery and then afterwards they were all gone. This was a major plus since I usually have 2 days of painful cramps!

    Magic Bullet

I've got a Magic Bullet and it has been great. I've found the trick is not to fill it too full. I've also used it to make some great salad dressings and salsas. I got mine at Costco.

    PCOS and Lap Band

Its good to know there are other PCOSers out there that have gotten banded. I was banded last week and hope to start seeing changes with the PCOS effects soon. My doctors have said that I should be able to get off all my meds. Its only been 6 days and I've already lost 4 lbs.

    July banders-work together

I was banded July 29th and feel lucky that I haven't had much pain or discomfort. Even right after surgery in recovery I felt pretty good and only agreed to pain medicine when they moved me to the outpatient recovery area and for the 1 hr ride home. The worse part for me that I have no energy. I took the dog for a walk around the block and then needed a 2 hr nap to recover. Like most of you I'm also getting pretty tired of just liquids, but have been glad that I can also have yogurt (without any chunks). I just want something to chew - I try to trick myself by using a spoon for just about everything except juice. It also helps me to take smaller portions at a time, because I tend to gulp instead of sip when drinking.

    Newbie from Colorado

Today is my first day back on my vitamins, so hopefully that will make a difference. I'm still trying to get enough protein, too, so I hope that will also help.
