  1. I'm from Brisbane in Australia. And my surgeon was Dr George Hopkins. He is a really great guy, and was actually in my bosses year at Medical School. Weird but whatever.

Thanks for spelling Plateau correctly. I have always been a bad speller. hehehe! I know that everyone has them at some point. I just am getting stressed out about it. I know I should just relax but I really don't know.

I'm 23 years old, and before surgery weighed 128kgs. I have lost 6kgs so far. I'm sorry. I don't know pounds. I could look it up but I'm not well right now. Too lazy... :)!

  2. Hey there guys,

Well, I got banded almost a month ago now, I am on solids and just had my first fill last week. But I seem to have caught a bug and I have thrown up twice today.

I was freaking out because everyone was saying that it is very bad to throw up, and I don't want to have anything wrong with me. Should I be concerned? I'm really worried that it could do damage, and make the band slip.

    Steph

  3. Hey there guys,

So I've had my surgery and am down 8kgs already! It's amazing really. But I have a concern about some pain I'm having. It's on the left side, around one of the wound sites. I mean it could just be bruising. But It's a real sharp pain and it hurts more when I move or stand or sit. It only goes away when I'm lying down. But when I try and roll over it's back.

It's lasted 2 days now and it seems to be getting worse. My Mum said if it wasn't better tomorrow we should call the surgern. But I woundered if this was normal and if anyone else has had that problem? I've been out a week tomorrow. So please.. let me know.

    :help: please!

    Steph

  4. Thanks Chickie,

I'm going to talk to my endocrinologist when I next see him, Professor Carey, :)! so yeah. I think he might recommend the one at the Wesley. He probably has his favourites.

Anyway, thanks for the info, Oh, just a Question, how long do you stay in hospital for? Like is it just for the operation or do you have to stay for a few days? Just curious

  5. Thanks so much for your encouragement guys. You're right Jachut, I am an Aussie. I live in Brisbane. Do you know of good surgeons that I could maybe go and see around my area? I'd like to at least meet with one and just discuss it. I think that would be the first step.

I've battled my weight for many years, I have always been on the large size, but since entering my teens to now - It's gone up heaps. The side effect of PCOS is weight gain, and I think that's part of the reason why I find it so difficult to loose weight.

I know that it's going to be a tough journey, but knowing that my parents are behind me, and you guys too! I think that I will be able to make it. My best friend is also obese, but I don't think she's ever going to consider lap-banding. I don't think I'm going to discuss with her about getting it done because I'm really scared she's going to talk me out of it. And so I'll tell her after it's done, or maybe when I'm in hospital or something, but not before hand.

Thanks for the encouragement though, I really appreciate it.!

And and so you know. 125kg is about 275.5 lbs.

  6. Hi there,

My name is Stephanie, and I'm 23 years old. I am currently around 125kg. I am so sick and tired of being the way I am. I have a really low self esteem, and have tried every kind of diet possible, and nothing seems to work.

I was at the gym twice a week for personal training, and had to give that up because my back is really bad. I see an endocronologist (sp? It was never my strong suit, lol), and he suggested lap banding. I flat out refused, why? Because I wanted to do everything in my own power to overcome it by myself. But nothing has worked.

I am really worried that I won't be able to control what I eat anymore, I really really eat so much junk it's not funny, but I'm really not happy. I've had a couple of boyfriends, but I want a husband, and kids. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, so concieving might not even be possible.

My back is a major issue with me as well. I've missed work because of it and I just don't want to go through that, and loosing my job because of it. I also get really sick alot and I'm so annoyed at myself! :angry ! Because I know I can do better and I don't.

So anyway, My Mum and Dad have gone back over the subject of lapbanding again tonight, and I think it's time for me to take a step forward. Nothing else has worked, and I think this might be a way for me to change my life.

If I were to loose half my weight.. imagine that... I would be so much happier!! I think my first goal is to get under 100kgs though. That in itself would be a huge accomplishment. It's going to be a big change. I think I just need some real encouragement.

((By the way, I know that my email address is a boys.. That's a character I use for a forum, but I'm always on MSN with it... So yeah!))

    Stephie

  7. Thanks for the responses guys...

    Carol -

You said you weren't sure about the band because you wouldn't be able to control what and how much you eat... isn't that what your problem is now... the fact that you can't control what and how much you eat now, isn't that why you are a size that requires you to think about an alternative like the band?

This is exactly what my parents are saying about it. I know that I feel in a way that I can't control what I eat and that's a problem. The thing that is annoying me is that it's really hard to control not eating junk when it's being forced upon you all around the place. It's on the TV, when you go out it's all around you. And the healthy food when you go out is actually more expensive than the junk food in some ways. Unless I go to the supermarket and do stuff from home that is.

Some of us have difficulties with the band because we sometimes don't follow the guidelines to prevent things from happening like vomiting, etc.......like eating small bites, chewing well, waiting a bit before each bite, not drinking while eating and stopping when we have that satified feeling.

And this is what is freaking me out as well. I'm really scared because if I can't control what I'm eating now then what makes me think that I can do it with the band? The band is meant to stop me from doing it, but if you can get around that then what's to say I can't just keep going the way I am going now?

You need to think more on what your priorities are here......being able to hang onto your existing eating habits which will kill you by the age of 40, or being banded....losing the weight, being healthy and living a longer life with much more quality to it....while MAYBE suffering a slight a bit of unpleasantness here and there.

I hate feeling like the "big" person wherever I go. Especially if I go out to eat somewhere. And I don't want to die at 40 either. And I also have PCOS, which a side effect is Weight Gain, which is why I have been steadily gaining weight from when I was a teenager to now, I have never been this heavy before. I have alot of lower back problems as well. And people keep saying if I get banding that is going to go away. But I'm still worried that I'm going to find another way around the band.

LilMisfit - I'd love to chat with you. My email address is Brumbie06@hotmail.com if you want to email me. It would be nice to have another perspective.

  8. Hi there everyone,

I just joined this site. The thing is, my parents want me to seriously consider getting lap-banding done. I'm 22 years old and weigh about 125kgs. I know it's alot... and I know my health is suffering from it, but I'm really worried about getting lap-banding done. I don't want to die at 40, which is what my endocronologist and GP keep telling me is going to happen, but I don't want to be.. well unable to control the weight and what I eat.

I've read some other forums about people who ate too much with the band and have been throwing up and things, and I am starting to think that the bad things are outweighing the good things.

I was wondering if there was anyone sort of my age that has had lap-banding done and could talk to me about it, maybe even via MSN or email...
